Star Wars:  Slow Burn (future game thread)

Although it may be some time before we get back to Star Wars.  I can at least post some idle thoughts.  Sometimes the best ideas build off of other ideas at the oddest times, if you have some of the precepts settled.

When Star Wars begins again.  I am thinking

...of rolling all dice myself and not having to wait for other characters.  This may sound presumptive but the code and results are the same now matter who enters them.

...running combat by myself as far as can be predicted by the character's choices.  In Star Wars, the losing side concerning Initiative must declare their actions to the winners before acting on them.  Usually the PCs win Initiative so this allows PCs to plan details actions before the other side can act.  As a rule, I try to include a PC with a high Initiative score (such as Ali, Twi'leks have among the highest Perception (and thus Initiative) scores of the commonly available species) so this works.

...changing how hordes of minions might work.  In Star Wars, it may be a given that mighty PCs will win against stormtroopers or TIE fighters but it still can take forever to roll.  I suggest that troopers and TIEs are completely predictable (allowing better and faster planned combat) and that they go down with the slightest damage.  In the movies, stormtroopers are either active or dead and TIEs are either attacking or exploded.

...when hordes of minions are attacking, I will add some minions whose purpose is merely to die spectacularly, a few for each player who can decide how these redshirts expire.  There should still be enough 'effective' minions for a real fight.  The redshirts are just to show how badass the PCs are.

...that said, it should be understood that troopers and TIEs keep coming.  The Empire seems to have a nigh-endless number of them.  I intend to give minions an increasing bonus to attacking as their numbers increase.  In the movies, the heroes were always essentially running from stormtroopers and TIE fighters until the very last battle.

...we post like a screenplay, not a novel.  Action is quick and in the present tense.  Superflous description is discouraged.  Good choices in dialogue and actions should convey the story.   We show, not tell the story.

I'll stop there for now.  Let me know what you think.  Goodness knows there is no hurry. ;-)
