Act One, Scene One: Anarchy
Blink shakes his head, saying "I checked out the prison earlier; there's an enormous hole in the wall, and the people trying to keep the prisoners in--I believe the guards and the CPU--have their hands full. If we do take The Wizard there, we'll have to help them get things under control first--assuming that's possible right now." He pauses for a moment, then mutters, "We may not have much choice..."

Act One, Scene One: Anarchy
Dark Matter has been taking some deep breaths during this whole conversation, visibly shaking from head to foot. He seems to have regained control to some degree, at any rate enough to speak. "Perhaps helping restore order at the prison would be a good use of our talents. The last thing that we want right now are more people adding to the chaos."

Act One, Scene One: Anarchy
Blink looks at Dark Matter for a moment, concerned. He then nods, turns away, and says "Not sure how much we'll help, but it's better than none. Let's get going." He proceeds to start moving in the direction of the prison, based on his memory.

Act One, Scene One: Anarchy
The group takes off, unconscious villain in tow, retracing their steps to City Hall, then heading to the prison. Unless Blink wants to use his powers to ferry people to the prison at high speeds, it will take about a half hour to arrive at the following scene:

As you approach the prison, the first thing you notice is that dust & debris is littered across the entire block. As you get a better look at the building itself, you see that the debris likely came from a large hole being punched/blasted/whatever (closer inspection needed for details) in one of the prison walls. From within the prison, you hear the sounds of battle, though it's unclear at this point whether it's the guards fighting whoever made the hole in the wall; the guards fighting prisoners attempting to break out of the prison, having been released from their cells by whoever made the hole in the wall; or those guys with the letters "CPU" stamped on some of their equipment fighting -- someone, you're not sure who -- as they run into the hole in the wall. There are five in that last group, and five more CPU members emerging from an armored truck. The sounds emanating from the hole give the impression of a grand melee inside, and a spear of ice ejecting from the hole (and immediately getting blasted away by one of the CPU members) suggests the use of powers inside.

After mentally preparing himself, Blink steps into the hole to see if he can figure out which people are escaping prisoners and which people are guards. He is prepared to dodge at a moment's notice.

Act One, Scene One: Anarchy
The CPU members by the armored truck notice a blur approaching the prison. One of them compares it to a speedy turd, then all five turn their weapons on it. Three are carrying conventional firearms, while the other two have more exotic weapons. All five fire with uncanny accuracy at the spot through which Blink is about to pass.

Tech: Blink, you said you're prepared to dodge. You will have to dodge if you don't want to get hit. Hard.

When he prepared to dodge, Blink was expecting an attack from the front. He did not expect to get attacked from the back. Nevertheless, with his reflexes, he immediately dives to the side, thinking up a few curses, as well as "I haven't even done anything yet, especially not to them!"

In reply to Blink (msg # 196):

Dark Matter is unable to keep up with the speed of Blink's actions. Before he can say a word, all he sees is the blur heading towards the prison, and the CPU goons shooting at it. He screams at the trigger-happy squad, "What on earth do you think you're doing?!? We're here to help, stop shooting!"

The squad hesitates, lowering their weapons just a little. One of the members with a non-traditional weapon (it covered a section of the prison wall in ice!) shouts in a deep, booming voice, "What kind of idiot charges into a war zone at top speed without announcing his presence to his allies? If you're here to help, identify yourselves!" With that, he aims his weapon back at Blink, and the other members of the squad follow suit. None of them fires just yet, though.

OOC: This is not the same squad you met earlier, and it may very well be that they haven't received any information about you yet.

In reply to The Man (msg # 198):

"My companion here gets easily carried away. We're just concerned citizens with abilities that should prove useful to stopping all these criminals from escaping and wreaking havoc. By the looks of things", Dark Matter gestures to the chaos of lights and explosions coming from the prison, "There's no time to sit here talking. You can either accept some much-needed reinforcements, or fight a battle on two fronts for no good reason."

The apparent leader pauses for a moment, likely reining himself in so as not to betray any emotions, despite his face being covered. When he does speak, his voice is entirely calm & even. "I don't like involving civilians, but I can't deny that you have a point. Fine! Then show your worth. Wait until we give you the signal, then head through that breach in the wall. Lieutenant Schiff should be just inside, on the south side of the hall. Talk to him if you don't want us shooting at you again." With that, he starts relaying information about you over his radio.

Act One, Scene One: Anarchy
"This guy is not my commanding officer," Blink thinks to himself. "I have no obligation to follow his orders." However, as he looks at the aggressive officers, he thinks, "If we ignore his orders, though, they could just decide to shoot us. They're clearly looking more for troublemakers than allies." He looks back toward the opening of the prison, and the chaos coming from inside. "...If they're smart enough to know they need the help, then hopefully they're smart enough to not shoot down the people offering help." He then slowly moves back toward Dark Matter. He says quietly to Dark Matter, "Be careful with them. I'm sure they don't consider us allies, and the leader will not be happy when we don't wait for the signal."

Dark Matter shakes his head, as if to clear it. "You're right, I don't trust them, especially after our first encounter. This is only a temporary arrangement, forced on us by the circumstances. We will find out what's going on with the CPU when we've dealt with this particular fire. One thing at a time." He positions himself near the opening, and looks back at the CPU officer, waiting for the go-ahead.

Act One, Scene One: Anarchy
Dr. Falway says nothing at all this, but merely nods at Dark Matter's decision and then starts dragging The Wizard over to one of the vehicles parked nearby. The squad leader finishes his conversation on the radio just as Dark Matter looks at him. He orders his squad to take up positions around the hole, and as soon as they do, he gives you the signal to go in.

As you enter, you find yourself at the end of a hallway, and you discover something you hadn't encountered yet, since both of you are relatively new to town: there aren't very many criminals here for a city this size, but the ones they do have are vicious and every single one of them has dangerous powers. Thankfully, it's pretty clear who's on which side, since the prisoners are still wearing their jumpsuits, the guards are wearing their own uniform, and the CPU troops have combat gear unlike any others present. All down the hallway, members of all three groups are fighting, some trading long-range attacks and some duking it out at melee range. A prison guard using a nearby door as cover grabs Dark Matter by the shoulder and pulls him behind the door just in time to avoid another ice attack. Blink reflexively dodges the attack.

Tech: We shall begin combat! But first, a warning: there are projectiles flying every which way in a pretty cramped space here, so any time a ranged attack misses its target, you might find yourself getting hit! This goes for hitting each other as well!

OOC: I'll get a map put together later.

Act One, Scene One: Anarchy
Beyond the debris just inside the hole, you see several members of the CPU who have positioned more pieces of debris to serve as cover. One of them also has a prison guard with her. Approaching those two is a young blond prisoner, who seems to be the source of all the ice attacks, judging from the frost appearing on surfaces near him. Further back, you see a prison guard lying on the ground; even from this distance, you can tell that he's been brutally beaten to death. Standing over him is his likely killer, who is surprisingly scrawny, but whose gray skin suggests he might pack more punch than regular muscles allow. Floating behind him is another, more dapper-looking man who also appears to be one of the prisoners. You see no signs of coordination between these three.
Finally, there are two prison guards at the other end of the hallway. They seem to be dealing with a problem beyond the door at the moment, as their backs are to you. Why the prisoners between you & them aren't attempting to get rid of them is anybody's guess.

Dark Matter, you can take a look at the room the prison guard half-pulled you into, but it will require you giving the room attention (which may or may not affect your DCV) to see any relevant details, as there are two people in your way: along with the helpful prison guard, Lieutenant Schiff is also standing in the doorway.

Tech: Combat begins! Blink, as the resident speedster, you'll be the first to act, though Dark Matter can engage in conversation right now if he wishes.

OOC: The initial map is up. See the main game map for this scene.

The guard shakes his head at Dark Matter's question. "We do, but it's locked up right now, and I can't access it right now."
Schiff frowns. "I appreciate that you're more cautious than your zebra-striped teammate, but I thought the reason you offered help is because you don't need equipment like we do; you have powers that allow you to fight differently. Is that not true?"
