Chapter 1: The High and Lows

The heat from Chiaroscuro's blazing Southern days fades with the fall of night, while the towers in the oldest and wealthiest district begin to give off a faint glow.

The night cools, but brightens as the streets of ruby-red glass below lead towards the towers that reach as far as the eye can see.

It is easy to tell person from person apart, for it is only the Delzahn or those esteemed enough to be guests who join you.

Of course, while many live in beautiful towers of glass throughout the city, it is hard to deny that every amenity possible makes the varying shades of glass of the Tri-Khan's tower make it the most beautiful as all. The dull heat lingering fades to a pleasantly cool environ. The dryness of the dessert becomes a soft moist air inside. And above, to the sides, everywhere around there is the gorgeous glass ceilings, walls, and floors.

Among each noble introduced, some with clearly more defined status and pull to their title, are of course the guests of the Tri-Kahn. The herald calls out names from far and wide, desert tribesman to the Delzahn of the city, to Guild merchants and even

"Zhu Yin, esteemed Exorcist, who has cleaned the things lurking in shadows from many a home, saving countless lives," most of this an exaggeration for your help in dealing with an ancestor ghost who would not leave him family be. It was not even exorcised - just a matter of speaking and bargaining with it. The family happened to be Guild merchants who included your name on the guest list as a favor.

"Silken Sash, who..." he pauses a moment, unsure of how the name came to be on his list, but does not stop your entry.

Ki- Chi- Qui-Quixotic Quetzal" he says, struggling with the exotic name a few times before finishing his introduction, "Ambassador for Grandmother Bright of the Plaza." The goddess herself never mingled, but the invitation had quickly gone to the one she'd felt could best represent her.

Presenting Seven-Folded Rose, who's handiwork carried Pasha-khan Nergui through the desert sandstorms and forged him a ring of shimmering beauty.". Of course, exaggerated as it is, the broken horse shoes of Nergui would have prevented him from attending and you are responsible for that.

[When you actually arrive at the party is up to you, as is what you plan to do for a bit. Lirin is there, however, his job is to be on the lookout for funny business]

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
The news that she'd be attending a classy gala in Grandmother Bright's stead had made Ixie light up with excitement, but fortunately, Grandmother Bright had stressed well enough that she wasn't to cause a ruckas at the party. After all, it would reflect badly on the Goddess and her Plaza.  Such it was that Quixotic Quetzal showed up without her weapons, though she had gone to a bit of lengths with some green and gold eye shadow and some simple gold jewelry to decorate her hair a little bit beyond the norm, if only to play along with the party. She really was curious what kind of reception she'd get, this time.

Right away, things were a little awkward, thanks to the herald, but she was eager to dive right in and mingle as best she could. She covered her mouth with a little laugh as the herald struggled, and she stepped over with a perky, energetic spring to her step, clapping her hand on his shoulder lightly. "hehe~ Relax. It's a mouthful~!" She reassured the herald, then offered a little wave. "Seeya, I'm off to grab a drink~" She chimed. She spoke pretty decent Flametongue, her voice warm and playful.

Grandmother Bright had been very strict: only a few drinks, spaced out. So she might as well get the first one now!  Ixie stood out from most, and not just for her wings. She was bubbly and energetic, perhaps much as one might expect of a fae-blood (as she was said to be, amongst those who knew of her already),  offering little waves when she caught people looking her way. Were it not for people's tendencies to... distrust... inhuman creatures, she might've well-fit the notion of a social butterfly.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Seven-Folded Rose was... not the prettiest woman. In fact, in this illustrious company, the rough-hewn features of a person who was just a few inches off being a giant stood out even before the fact that she wore a plain leather tunic and breeches instead of fine silks and cotton.

She also had a reputation for being dumb as a bag of rocks and honest as the day was long.

This was Seven-Folded Rose. Rumoured to be touched by the Sun, a wanderer from the Southeast, whose hands had beaten out powerful weapons including the orichalcum-and-jade forge-hammer she blatantly wielded in battle and at the forge.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Lesser people could think of Zhu Yin as divinity herself with the way she dressed and with her bronze skin. Dragon-Blooded would see her as sorceress---which was fine, since they didn't automatically brand her an Anathema just because she had skin of bronze (she still got their attention though, but she was fine with that). And because of the added protection as well as because she already looked magical or divine with the marks from her control spell, she chose to don her bronze skin every day.

It wasn't a wise move for someone who wanted to get to know the common folk on a personal level. It was a wise move for someone who wanted them to revere her. Yin didn't really know what she wanted. She wanted them to want to accept her help---to recognize her as someone who could help---and she wanted the added protection.

So her skin right now was made of bronze.

She smiled to the herald as he called out her name.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Quixotic Quetzal was glad to note she wasn't the only odd standout amongst the crowd. As the charming young faeblood flitted across the room to the refreshments and helped herself to a glass of wine, she turned about and turned her eyes across to the herald as he announced the exorcist's arrival.  There was no missing the towering brute that was Seven-Folded Rose (although, to be honest, Ixie didn't immediately recognize the smith beyond her... notable.... features.)

The glimmering bronze woman captured her attention a bit more. An exorcist who had saved countless homes, really? That seemed like a person to get to know. She did hear as Silken Sash was introduced - and he was a bit of a friend - more a casual companion to share drinks with. How had he gotten invited, she wondered? He did have his ways. Maybe he'd borrowed someone else's invitation? Ixie smirked a little. That sounded like him. She'd have to teach him what it was like, later.

Drink held lightly in her left hand, and keeping her wings drawn back, Ixie wove between Dhelzhan nobles and suspicious guild merchants, between visitors of import and locals of influence. While part of her just wanted to launch up above them and sail over to her destination, she got the feeling that it would be seen as rude. Also, she'd possibly spill her drink.

So it took her a bit before she turned up by Zhu Yin, sashaying up with her perky step. She leaned in and lightly knocked her delicate knuckles on her bronze shoulder, before letting out an earnest laugh. "Wow, I've heard of getting bronzed skin, but this is pretty wild. Hi~!" The perky, animate little  bird-girl practically glowed, smiling with her eyes as she introduced herself. "I'm Quixotic Quetzal, but everyone here struggles with it. You can just call me Ixie. So, you're an exorcist? Neat! Don't know too much about exorcism. Or ghosts. But it's good that you've helped people. I definitely know about that. C'mon, you should get a drink. Err, can you drink, like that?" she chimed, still beaming. But at least, it seemed like she was waiting for Zhu Yin's response.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Navigating through the crowds of people like an expert dilettante, Lirin's attention is on scanning the crowd and the people entering the party, searching it and taking note of any potential troublemakers or people of note.  Occassionally stopping to make small talk, he blends in with the party-goers, appearing to be just another face in the crowd.

Even his clothing blends in with crowd's, its muted colors and simple cut hiding the fact that it fits perfectly, not hindering his movement in the slightest.  That is not all the clothing hides though, as an exceptionally astute observer might notice the slight bulge under his forest green jacket where a well-used flame piece rests out of sight.  The same observer might also notice that Lirin's striking eyes, one of blue and gold & one of green and gold, never stop moving, flicking over every person in the room, apparently keeping track of where everyone is and what they are doing.

Or at least he was until he heard the herald mispronounce an unfortunately familiar name; looking over to the main entrance, he sees an exhaustingly optimistic young woman and sighs a bit before merging back into the crowd.

"Hopefully Grandmother Bright briefed her on how to act," he thinks to himself as he navigates the crowd, continuing to take note of people as they entered, his curiousity piqued when the herald had no titles or embellishments for a name that he didn't recongnize: Silken Sash.

"Well, that's unusual; the herald normally doesn't get confused..." Lirin ponders as he moves to get a better look at the mystery man, shaking his head slightly as he sees Ixie literally knock on another visitor's shoulder.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Anyone with some knowledge of magical materials could see that Yin carried pauldrons of orichalcum and starmetal. She also had a glimmering (hence active) hearthstone. Much of it could be explained away by her being a sorceress, but it would definitely raise some eyebrows. Exalted weren't especially "common" after all.

"Nice to meet you, Quixotic Quetzal," Yin said without butchering the name. "I'm Zhu Yin, but you can call me Yin, or Zhu, or come up with something new if you like."

She smiled.

"Drinking isn't a problem. Give me a nod if you see any cider around."

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie laughed a little at how... well, Yin wasn't that animated at all as she replied to her playful banter - though, she didn't seem cold, either. Ixie lightly bit her lip, tipping her head to the right as she eyed Yin's response, trying to get a quick read on her as she quietly  let out an audible and rather obvious  "Hmm..."

Whatever she worked out seemed to satisfy her in the moment, though, since she put her hand out again, and grabbed Yin by the wrist, motioning her along. "Yeah~ They have cider, c'mon." She said,  lightly tugging Yin along... though, Yin was pretty confident that the girl wasn't strong enough to drag her anywhere if she didn't play along... even if she wasn't all bronzed up at the moment...

"So~ You're an exorcist, huh? Pretty cool. Do you, you know, go around punching misbehaving ghosts and stuff?" She asked, her steps a bit springy as she led the way. When she mentioned punching, she playfully shadowboxed the air a couple of times. For what it was worth, she showed decent form, but it lacked obvious formal training. Then again, she was also just kind of punctuating her ideas with a gesture.

(Ixie rolls a Per+Socialize check to try and read intentions on Yin, to see what her impressions/feelings on Ixie's presence are. IE, she's trying to tell if she's being annoying or getting in her way or something. Guile only applies if you're trying to really hide  how you're reacting;

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Yin doesn't try to hide anything. She isn't annoyed by Ixie, but she clearly doesn't have the energy herself to keep up with her at her own pace. She's being friendly though since she doesn't want to hurt Ixie's feelings by seeming uninterested.

"I don't really need to punch ghosts to exorcise them," she said. "I'm generally against violence, but I do know how to throw a punch if I really need to. I find that most mortal threats can be reasoned with though. My bronze skin usually protects me long enough to give me the extra time I need to talk someone down. Demons are the real danger, but they are super rare. I've only encountered one in my entire life."

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie got them through the crowd steadily enough, even if she had to dampen her pace for the slower, bronze-clad woman she'd seemingly attached herself to for the moment. Once they made it to the refreshments, Ixie sprightly ordered up cider from the servants tending the demands of the guests, then turned to Yin while the servant got to work.

"Aha~! Well, It's not like I like to hurt people. But you gotta' look after yourself, you know?" She prompted the woman with a perky smile. Twisting lightly to the side to look out over the party, she mulled those words over a moment.  "Well, I mean, people don't bother me too much. I mean, it's not like a mob can chase me into the air or anything.  Never seen a demon, myself. Have seen some ghosts though. Most of the ones I know of are fine. Grandmother Bright has  some who live in the Plaza." She explained.

The energetic girl nodded a bit at that. "Uh-huh.  She's... well, not really sure what you wanna know. She's kind and caring about the people she's taken in, but she can't take in everyone. She's strong and benevolent, though. At least, that's how she is with me. I don't really know how she might be with someone like you." She said, her eyes glancing over the sorceress again discreetly, honing in, this time, on her glowing hearthstone. "oooh, pretty."

It seemed to work, though it was unclearl if she'd really manipulated Ixie or whether the girl just wasn't going to fixate. She fluttered her eyes a little at Yin, as she was pressed on her words. "Erm? An... excorcist? I mean, I've never actually known one, and I don't really know how she feels about exorcism, since she has ghosts living in the plaza, too. Well, not living... you know what I mean."

"She's got ghosts living in the Plaza?"

Yin's nose wrinkled at that.

"Why doesn't she let them pass on? Since she's a god, she probably has her reasons ... but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that. Does she at least treat them well and not use them as cheap labor? There's nothing worse than someone abusing the dead, even if that person is a god."

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
For what it was worth, Ixie's scrunched-up face wasn't, for once, an attempt ant teasing someone else. "Ick. Ghost slavery? Talk about dark. You really gotta relax, she's really not like that. That's... that's really disturbing to think about, you know. I mean..." Ixie actually shuddered a little bit, repulsed by the whole idea. She turned her eyes about rather urgently, then raised her drink to bump into Yin's cider, before taking a little sip. "C'mon, don't be so dreary. Grandmother Bright takes care of everyone who lives in the Plaza as best she can - ghosts, the poor. Even a lonely fae-blood like me. "

She fluttered her feathers gently to illustrate her point, looking off to her left at the extended span of her wing on that side, then sidelong, and up, back to Yin's eyes.

Rose watched the bronze-skinned woman and the fae-blood talk and also tracked the man going around and making sure everyone stayed calm. Parties made her uncomfortable but she was advised to come here - and with all the supernatural folk around, a big Solar smith was almost normal.

She decided to follow the guy wandering around, in case he needed any muscle to calm people down. And because she wasn't sure what else to do.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Keeping an eye on the conversation between the bronzed exorcist and the winged ambassador, Lirin continues to patrol the party when he notices that he has a tail; it helps that the woman following him is probably the tallest person in the room.

Taking a moment to exchange pleasantries with a local merchant, Lirin takes a drink from a roaming waiter and sips from it before placing it on another waiter's empty tray, for finished drinks, before slipping around him and into a nearby crowd, vanishing from his tail's sight.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
"Oh my!" speaks the voice behind Ixie, a woman standing just behind her, dressed in barely visible silken gowns. The scarves a variety of colors covered only her most intimate parts underneath the veil-like gown, leaving little to the imagination. She was an older woman, 30, maybe even 40, but her body was kept in good form, making it harder to tell behind the veils that covered all but her face. "I was wondering if these we an accessory, but they're real wings, aren't they?" Her hands reached out, brushing gently along the feathers. "You would do well to make something with these feathers. They'd always match after all!" she gave a small laugh at her own joke.

With a gesture, the woman called over a younger woman dressed in orange silks almost as light looking as Ixie's own gossamer. "I am Hari-sah and this is my daughter Fa'ularid. I think feathers like that would work wonders with your wedding dress Fa'ul," she says, turning to the girl who seems to look more at Ixie's wings than at Ixie.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie turned about to find herself met with a decidedly beautifulwoman wearing only wisps of fine silk.  She put on a small, earnest grin as the woman, seeming to have overheard, admired her wings.  She beamed, elating in the feeling of someone else admiring them rather thanbeing afraid of her for having them. She stretched them out a bit - though she did lightly shudder as the woman put a hand to her feathers. At the least it was a light touch, rather than a rough and grasping child's hand. Ixie liked kids, but they didn't appreciate how delicate wings were.

This woman, however, seemingly knew how to treat something delicate and beautiful, ixie determined. She answered her with a little nod. "Well, I've actually thought about that, but it's kind of a pain to pluck'em. They have to grow back, and it hurts... a little. Maybe I could collect them when they fall out..." she mused thoughtfully, putting a finger to her lips. She glanced aside to where Yin had been - only to see her ducking away to chase after the servant who'd gone to fetch her cider. Ixie slightly frowned, but it vanished when the woman drew her attention back and called over her pretty daughter.

"But yes, they're real wings. It's a lot of work, honestly, keeping them clean. Do you know how hard it is to preen them and pluck out anything that gets into the feathers without a beak? Pretty rough. Gotta pluck feathers when they get damaged or weakened, and then there's the molting..." she chimed, with an affectionately exasperated sigh. She drew her wings around her shoulders in a rather precoscious and brief self-hug. "Still, a good chance to collect them. I... actually have some back where I'm staying."

Ixie grinned a little. "I'm Quixotic Quetzal, but, well, Ixie's easier on most of the people around here." she chimed with a giggle. "You're getting married, Fa'ul? When?" Ixie had a lot of questions, but she decided to start with the friendly introductions. As she did, she spread her wings again, taking up a bit of space, and she did pause to glance back over her shoulder to be sure the area was clear. She'd learned her lesson once, brushing a lit candle with her wing... That hadn't been pretty... Once she had the room, she lightly stretched her right wing out to the fascinated young woman, giving her a little nod. Yes, you can touch it.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
The younger woman, much like her mother, let a gentle hand glide over the wing, though she seemed much less impressed. "I'm not sure, I don't think they'd look good with my wedding dress," she said, only for her mother to answer, "Of course they would! Girls will be girls." It's perhaps most apparent now that the two are talking about you more like an accessory than someone they'd like to meet. "It's a shame they aren't plucked easily, you could certainly set up shop if you ever needed spare jade."

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
As she got a better feel for their tone, Ixie drew her wing back in, her perky smile remaining, but growing a bit less radiant. The idea made her stomach turn. using herself as some natural resource for clothes for the rich, as pretty as they'd look, she'd never trade flying around for it - or, at least, the possibility of one day getting good enough with them to really fly... That musing, the tone in it. They wanted her feathers for their own. At least the older woman did. The younger didn't even seem to really care about her wings, after a cursory glance.

There was just a single beat of the conversation where Ixie felt upset. Then, she turned around for the offensive. "Honestly, I think they'd suit you well." she said to Fa'ul, gesturing. "I mean, it's got the brilliant orange with the green. They would bring out your eyes, I think." She paused, and leaned in toward Fa'ul, closing into her personal space with every intent of imposing a little discomfort in an effort to draw some reaction other than bored disinterest from her. She was going for a look right in the eyes, faces inches apart, still smiling - to her, at least. Fa'ul hadn't been the one to annoy her so much as she seemed to be missing what Ixie had to offer.

She lingered there for just a moment before relenting and looking to the mother. "They might not be easy to pluck, but it's definitely something I could do." she began, tantalizing her with the possibility. She knew the woman already wanted her feathers, after all. What better way to snub her than to continue; "...Unfortunately, I don't think the Tri-Khan himself could pay me what they're worth to me. I suppose I do have the ones that fell out, but... " she shook her head with a smug little grin. "...Maybe I'll take up a little accessorizing all on my own."

She brushed a wing to the side dramatically as she turned away, taking a sip of her wine to punctuate her smooth and sharp retort.

Ixie's playing a bit of hardball with a social flurry. IMO she's justified a stunt, and her two social attacks are as follows. They may or may not have intimacies that come into play, even if Ixie doesn't know them :P

Charisma+Presence VS Fa'ul: Inspire to try and incite curiosity or interest in Ixie, or at least interest in her feathers/wings.

Dice Pool: 2 Cha + 3 Presence + 1(charm), -3 Flurry, -3 flaw, +4m peripheral (Presence Excellency) gives 4 dice +2 stunt dice = 6 dice (Appearance is 3 VS Fa'ul's Resolve, if I exceed it, I get that many extra dice: if I get any, you can roll them) Ixie is actually spending 1 point of willpower here, being earnest and wanting to impress someone who's rolling their eyes at her wings.

Manipulation+Presence: Attempting to Inspire anger/frustration at being denied something she's expressed a desire for.

Dice Pool: 3 Manip + 3 Presence +1(Charm) -3 Flurry, -3 Flaw (though this is kinda... sneary-mocking, not really 'friendly social interaction')  +4m personal (Presence Excellency) +2 stunt dice + any appearance bonus dice

Charisma Roll v Fa'ul: 6 dice+ 1 WP + any appearance bonus
20:30, Today: Quixotic Quetzal rolled 7 successes using 6d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 7,9,9,9,9,10.  Charisma v Fa'ul (+1 wp).

Manip Roll V Hari: 7 dice + any appearance bonus
20:30, Today: Quixotic Quetzal rolled 3 successes using 7d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 1,10,4,1,3,6,9.  Manip v Hari.
20:32, Today: Quixotic Quetzal rolled 2 successes using 3d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 7,9,2.  Reroll 3 failed dice (Mocking Bird's Call).

Ixie's guile is 3, for purposes of hiding how much she feels hurt by the whole ignorance bit, and she's hiding it behind the bravado and social aggression, which might qualify as a stunt to raise guile at your discretion.

WP: 4/5
Personal: 9/13
Peripheral: 29/33

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Fa'ul took a step back as Ixie moved toward her, but as she did, she did look at the wings. "You think so?" Her eyes fluttered as she asked, the slightly red-orange eyes popping while her lips curled into a slight smile. She spent a moment in thought, perhaps contemplating what her dress might look like with a few feathers or perhaps even wondering a bit more about what it would be like to fly.

Of course, while Fa'ul seemed more interested, her mother scowled. "I wouldn't be so quick to speak ill of the man in charge of the city." Whatever kind veneer she'd erected to talk to you was washed away by the vitriolic insult. "No, no, I think you were right Fa'ul. After all, a woman's supposed to look beautiful...not like an animal. How does one even come about having wings?"

00:01, Today: Sol Invictus, for the NPC Hari-sah, rolled 2 successes using 7d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 3,2,5,7,4,5,7.  Read Intentions.

Unfortunately, I have awful rolling so she does not pick up on your hurt. But she's coming after you for that insult

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie lightly covered her lips with her free hand, chuckling lightly at something.  "That really wasn't my point.  My point is; you don't own me, so don't act like you do." She chimed, then turned to focus on Fa'ul. It seeme dshe was going to leave Hari's question unaddressed, a keener snub than any flowery answer she might spout in that moment. No, instead, where Hari was demanding attention, she'd  give it to the now-intrigued Fa'ul.

She gestured with a wing, back towards the party. "Why don't you tell me about your wedding dress, maybe I can come up with some ideas. I'm sure Grandmother Bright could help us out finding a good artisan to make whatever we need." She chimed, invitingly. "Like I said, I don't really need jade, so we'll figure something out, if you decide you want a feather ornament or something."

Ixie is only making one actual attempt here: Persuading Fa'ul to come talk with her without her mother. I imagine the intimacy/inspire (whichever you decided to treat it as)  will support, but her intimacy for her mother might oppose)

Charisma+Presence+1 ;  I'm unsure if you're willing to count this as a stunt, but if not, remove the last two rolled dice
+2 stunt -3 flaw = 5 base dice +2m peripheral.

Rolled 2 successes on the dice, which ties her resolve (which I belive works)  before any inspire/intimacy effects... maybe she's not as happy with Mom as Mom would like :3

I'm actually going to also throw a Read Intentions at Fa'ul, to try and get a read on her relationship with he rmother, actually. Happy? Strained? Intimacy context? Secretly resentful but being dutiful? Or actually dutiful? ^^;

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Rose saw the noblewomen harassing the winged woman and decided to wander that way. The crowd parted for the huge blacksmith before closing in again. She really wanted to be in the forge because she didn't see how this benefited Creation.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Seeing his former tail head towards a new destination after a few moments of looking for Lirin, he groans as he realizes where she is heading: towards Ixie and the noblewoman that Ixie was now talking to.

"Why couldn't she just stick to the exorcist?" Lirin mutters to himself as he navigates the crowd to intercept Rose before she can throw oil on the fire brewing between Ixie and Hari-sah.

Slipping out of the crowd in front of Rose, Lirin smiles up at the smith who stands a head taller than he.  "Seven-Folded Rose, was it?  How are you enjoying the party so far?" he asks, intent on distracting her from the faeblood and the nobles, while angling himself to keep a covert eye and ear on them.

Rose, of course, is easily distracted and beams a big friendly smile down at the smaller man. Whatever can be said about the blacksmith's wits, her friendliness was never in doubt. "Yeah, that's me, Seven-Folded Rose. It's... interesting?"

Even Rose knew better than to ask how did a spat between a couple little butterflies benefit Creation. In front of them, at least.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Lirin's keen senses pick up much from the crowded gala of the Tri-Khan. Most of it is gossip talk, some of it simply business. Guild merchants meeting alongside Delzahn nobles to discuss the price of goats, milk, and cheese in the upcoming week. Just a few feet of way, hoping the sounds of the party were covering up their voices, a few males stared at Seven-Folded Rose. "Not much for a looker is she?" His friend was a man with hair just turning gray, "It's a shame, for certain. Coulda been a pretty thing if she didn't look like such a brute."

Though among the sounds of party guests is also a dull thundering coming from outside the building - almost like a storm, but both too quiet to be and on a night that is clear.

-

Even at the table with the cider bowl, it was easy to notice people weren't willing to approach Zhu Yin, but they were all staring. The skin of bronze was certainly a factor. Her pauldrons made of demon gold and starmetal were another. The Delzahn included virtually every deity from the dragons to the Unconquered Sun himself in their worhsip, but it was hard to ignore the preaching dogmatic monks who lived in the Northern parts of Chiaroscuro warning of demon gods of old.

Of course, any attempt to catch people looking caught heads turning to look away instead. Except for one, a man with piercingly blue eyes and nearly white air despite looking young. His gaze stays on you, even meeting your eyes when you turn. He even smiles a bit when you look.

-

Ixie, Fa'ul has two intimacies towards her mother. "Major Tie: Mother (Love)" and Minor Principle: "My mother only wants me to live her life. I want more". Of course, her major intimacy will be boosting her Resolve to higher than your roll. [-1 for curiosity, +3 for love of Mother]

"No, I couldn't reveal the details. What if it got out," Fa'ul insisted, wanting her husbands reaction to her dress, though it was clear some hesitation came from leaving her mother to be with some strange winged woman.

Her mother was quick to confirm, "Don't worry, my daughter, we'll make sure you look immaculate on your wedding day. With or without a few feather trinkets. You inherited your mother's good looks after all. Some people just aren't so lucky." She shot a look at Ixie filled with spite. She then lets out a small forced laugh and reminds, "She's already said she has trouble cleaning them without a beak - hardly the type of thing you'd want to wear on a wedding day."

12:20, Today: Sol Invictus, for the NPC Hari-sah, rolled 1 success using 7d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 6,8,3,2,5,3,6.  Remove Intimacy towards Ixie's wings.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie gave Hari-sah a vacant expression in return for the venomous look, then quickly glanced over her shoulder, as if to check for someone else, behind her, the subject of the sneer. She looked back at Hari-sah, pointe done finger at her self with a mildly shocked expression, then covered her lips with a dainty hand, chuckling. Clearly, the old lady's eyes were failing her.

Ixie draped her wings around her shoulders lightly at that, crossed one arm up, and gingerly plucked a single feather, careful to take one that was a touch worn. She traced it through the air lightly, offering it to Fa'ul. "I understand, wouldn't want to spoil your surprise. If you change your mind, though, just come to the Plaza with this." She chimed with a hint of warmth, before glancing to Hari'sah. She did have a bit of a curious interest in this drama, now - at the least, it was a fun diversion, and Fa'ul did want more for herself - Ixie knew that secret sort of longing all too well. A desire to ... if not escape, at least, to be more than the world wanted her to be.

"Yes, we can't possibly admit to putting actual effort into our looks, can we? I'm not afraid to admit that it takes attention to take care of them. " Ixie quipped back to the old woman, deciding to let her off easier this time - she didn't, after all, want to push Fa'ul away before she got to know and perhaps help the girl. "Really, there's more to life than just looking pretty, though. You have to think about how you're living."

She turned her eyes back to Fa'ul's briefly, and her lips took on a soft, sympathetic smile. Her gaze was knowing, and more gentle than she'd acted thus far. Quietly, she sought to share a sentiment without words, her wings and eyes giving a gentle flutter, head gently tipping in a coy and warm invitation. Then, she turned her eyes to the room, looking for an excuse to step away... Still, she lingered near enough to try and pick up the reaction, and, if either of the women wanted to retort or interject, she was, in fact, still listening.

Ixie's going to make an Charisma + Presence action to convince Fa'ul to meet her later

2+3+1+2stunt +4m -3 = 9 dice
Intention: Convince Fa'ul to meet with me at some point
New/Stronger Justification: Tapping her desire for 'more' to her life than the thus-far displayed vanity of her mother :D

Result: 7 Rolled Successes

Going to Read Intentions Hari-sah to try and get a sense of what stake she has in her daughter's love life. Is she truly concerned, or seeking some sort of arrangement for her that is beneficial to her in some way? Is she exploiting her daughter, or just being overbearing?

Result: 1 success - no dice)

Fa'ul takes the feather with a smile. Before she can even say whether or not she'll consider the offer however, her mother begins to pull her to the side, reminding her and Ixie of the Delzahn tradition, "A woman's honor is her beauty," before the two leave the company of the bird woman.

--

It might have been difficulty over the ruckus of the party to hear, at least for most people, but Lirin drowned out the sound. It came through as clear as memories of sneaking into homes of Guild merchants in the East. He heard footsteps - but enough of them to make the road rumble like thunder. A crowd had clearly formed not far away and it sounded far too numerous to be just more guests.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie cracked a grin as she watched Hari retreat with her daughter, sparing her the need to concoct an excuse to break the conversation off entirely.  That had been fun, but she did hope that Fa'ul would take her up on her offer at some point. Ixie knew that dwelling on the sad situation wouldn't help, though, so she put it aside and polished off her drink with a laugh, passing her empty glass off to one of the servants.

Perception + Awareness Check: 6 Successes

Ixie did pick up on the cacaphonous sound, once she didn't have an actual conversing match going on. Her eyes fluttered as she turned her head toward the noise, and she pressed her lips together, thinly. "Huh... That's odd. What's all that racket?" She mused softly, before ducking along toward the stairs, looking to ascend up to the upper level of the party and go get a view of the outside from the balcony.

(assuming such a thing exists, given the fancy locale, it seems feasible!)

Yin noticed the smiling man, but she couldn't tell what he was after. She chose to ignore him for now since she was far less interested in him than he seemed to be in her. She could tell that he wanted her attention and that he would approach her eventually.

So she took a cup of cider and sniffed it a little. She wasn't unfamiliar with luxury, but she was unfamiliar with this kind of luxury. Sure, she had been living in a grand temple where she had gotten everything for free---but getting something for free didn't mean she was privileged. It meant that people donated their belongings to the temple, and she ate food every day because kind people cooked it for her.

This felt like luxury for luxury's sake, and that was a bit uncomfortable. She would be rude if she didn't enjoy herself, but it didn't feel quite right to indulge in all of this without at least showing some gratification to the ones responsible for it.

She took a sip of the cider, enjoyed the taste, and then thanked the waitor for offering it to her.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Silken Sash had arrived at the party along with the others, in a timely manner. While he hadn't originally been on the guest list, a special 'connection' from a few days before had been so nice as to get him on the list of invites for the Tri-Khan's party. The announcer's bafflement as to his title made him chuckle, lifting a hand to his lips to hide the smile.

The young man's skin was pale, his hair, the color of raven feathers, trailing down to his shoulders. Although he was slender in build, his face was sharply-sculpted, masculine, with piercing green eyes. The robe wrapped around his body was a light blue, with an obi the color of a string of pearls.

He had danced around the outer skirts of the party, both literally and figuratively, while tending to a drink or two. In his line of "work", it was important to get a good read on everything in the area, especially the people and their social standing.

For a moment, his eyes settled on Seven-Folded Rose.

Ugly, perfect. He had thought. Until his eyes settled down on her clothes. Poor. Nevermind.

Then, Sash caught sight of Ixie. They had met once before, gotten acquainted, and in the end, the handsome man had found her far more valuable as a friend than a temporary source of income. He had heard her name earlier, but hadn't wanted to disturb her, the social butterfly she was. But now seemed like the perfect time to approach. Heading towards the stairs, he briskly made his way to her side, brushing one of the long sleeves against her playfully.

"Been keeping out of trouble, Swallow?" He asked, 'swallow' being a nickname he'd given in reference to her exotic plumage.

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Interrupted on her tip up to the balcony, Ixie gave a little jump at his arrival, and grinned, turning to face him with her typical grin. There was just a hint of mischief there, but that was really quite usual for her. "That depends on what you call trouble, Sashy. Probably less trouble than you, though." she teased, giving him a nudge with her wing. "C'mon upstairs with me, I thought I heard some weird noise outside, so I was gonna have a look off the balcony." she invited, continuing to walk up, but at a more sedate pace - she had to do that for everyone, it seemed. Still, Silken Sash's company was worth the slowdown.

Ixie had initially taken him for a very pretty her, and, slightly tipsy, had made a pass his way. In the end they'd laughed off her mistake together, given how apologetic she'd become after that earnest misunderstanding. That they were both somewhat troublesome rogues in their own right certainly gave them some room to commiserate over drinks.

"Hehe, so, how did you get an invitation? The herald sounded more confused than when he tried to say my name."

Chapter 1: The High and Lows
The easiest way to see outside was from the door, and as the Tri-Khan's man, followed quickly by Rose neared the door, it was obvious that outside the tower sat a throng of people. None were dressed well, though some had rather nice, if plain, looking clothing, others neared rags. The Tri-Khan's guards are clearly issuing warnings to stay back, but the unruly crowd seems unwilling to hear them out. There are not enough to truly cause a riot, but certainly enough for there to be some concern over what to do.

The Tri-Khan's fully functioning First Age tower drowns out enough of the sound that from inside, making out any one voice is impossible from inside. The chatter of the party is enough to cover the calls from outside - or at least no one seems to be noticing the noise in the setting.

"I assure you, I never cause trouble." He said with a smile, and a mischievous gleam in his eyes. While Silken Sash would have done his best to match the young woman's pace, he appreciated the fact that she was willing to slow down for him. "Ah, that was funny, wasn't it? The look on his face- I almost blew my cover!" He joked in an excited whisper, his typical demeanor fading now that he had someone to gossip with.

"But, I met a noble a few days ago who let mention of the party slip during conversation. So naturally, I had to snag an invitation. ...And this." Sash loosened the ring on his finger, a silver band with a small green ring in its center, and presented it to her. "It matches your feathers, don't you think?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie led them along casually, toward either the balcony (if accessible) or the door, to get a look outside while they conversed. Along the way, she continued their conversation with a playful laugh. "Mhm~ I'm glad you're here. Most people here seem so stuffy and uptight." she complained with a little shrug of her shoulders - and wings.

As Sash went on to explain snagging an invitation, and then pulled off his elegant emerald ring, Ixie's eyes gave a briefly confused little flutter as he offered it to her. "Erm... hehe... Bit early for that, huh?" She covered her lips, briefly distracted from walking over to take a look out by the offer of the ring. She seemed almost giddy at first, before taking it in hand and holding it up to the light. She knew, of course, that it wasn't any sort of actual proposal, and laughed it off without a word about it. "It really is pretty. And it does bring out my feathers. It's just the right shade, but..." She knew there was more to it, and after a moment of consideration, she put it together. And then she gave Sash her playful but stern glare - sharp eyes, but a warm smile, threatening to become her characteristic grin. She just couldn't bring herself to be too upset with him, despite not exactly approving of stealing in general - a little bit of liberation of trinkets from the most wealthy wouldn't hurt anyone, though. She'd pilfered a bit to make a point in the past, too.

"Sooo~ this noble. You aren't trying to pawn this off on me to get me into trouble, are you, Sash?" she teased, knowing full well that he wasn't, but the possibility still existed. Either way, she did like the ring. She kept it in her hand for now, turning to continue back to their viewpoint (whichever it was going to end up being.)

Ixie frowned, seeing the moderate crowd of poor folks beyond the walls. She bit her lip, and lowered her head for a moment, then looked aside to Sash, slightly raising her shoulders in a wordless shrug. She shifted off with him away from everyone else. "...Looks like a bit of commotion? You think anything's going on with this party that might prompt that kind of reaction...? I don't really know too much about the details of the party, honestly..." she confessed. "I hope nobody gets hurt out there..." She didn't sound glum so much as optimistic about it. But then, that was Ixie - she always sought the silver lining to a storm cloud.

She rolled the ring over in her palm, then brought it back up, looking to Sash with a bit of a lack of certainty, but she at least had her usual smile back on. Her eyes still held a bit of concern. She did care about the disenfranchised, of course - even the ones beyond Grandmother Bright's plaza. Despite that, though, the immediate question quite literally at hand was asked without words... 'is this for me?'

@GM: Is there any sort of rolls that would be acceptable for seeing what information I might have that might shed some light on why there might be said crowd outside/picking up on the mood motivating them - I doubt Ixie can discern the true purpose of this party (it might be an investigation or bureaucracy roll, in which case it's right out. Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
"In my line of work, it can be good to be the only charming one in the room. Less distractions that way." Silken Sash chuckled.

The idea of proposal made him smile, especially considering how the two of them had first met. "Well, aren't you cheeky. Trust me, if I was proposing, the ring would be far bigger." The look in his eyes was mischievous. His tone dropped. "The woman that ring belonged to won't be coming looking for it any time soon, I assure you. So, it's yours, if you want it."

Then, as if realizing the possible connotations of his assurance, he cringed a bit, shaking a hand. "That is to say, she's from another land. I sincerely doubt she'd spend hundreds more than that ring is worth to go after it."

Peering from their vantage point, a frown came over Sash's lips as they gazed upon the less fortunate below them. Pursing his lips, he touched the tips of his fingers against his mouth. He couldn't help but remember the time that he, too, was on the outside and looking in.

"Honestly, I'm not sure what the occasion is for this party, if there even is one. But, if you give me a little time to work my magic, I'm sure that I could dig up a thing or two." He offered, a smile perking up the edge of his lips a tad.

Ixie gave a little pout, and gently, she bopped Sash lightly in the back of the head with her wing. "Hey~ I'm here too, you know~!" she countered his point about being the only charming one, beaming all the while. When he decided to give her the ring, she briefly lit up again, before his words gave her suspicious pause.

Only to be assauged by his explanation a moment later. She laughed, hopped a foot off the ground, and threw her left and arm wing around Sash. Her weight hung off of his shoulders for a moment as she squeeze dhim in a friendly hug - but she was quite light, all considered.  "hehehe, Alright, alright. Thanks, Sashy~! I love it."  Ixie pecked his cheek playfully, hopped down, and slid the ring on.

As Sash shifte dhis focus to the crowd outside, and the nature of the party, Ixie chimed in. "Actually, I think that would be pretty helpful. Huh..." she paused for a moment, and peered across the room, spotting that priestess she'd spoken to before. "Can you help me out with figuring that out?" she prompted Sash. "I wanna try and see if we can diffuse that situation, just ... don't want anyone out there to get hurt. I've got an idea, at least. I'm gonna go try and get something started on talking the crowd down a bit while you figure the party out, Mhmkay? I think I know someone who might be better off talking to the crowd, honestly. People tend to have mixed reactions to me, and that's not really what we need out there..." she prompted with a sweet, optimistic little smile.

It really was impossible to bring her down.

For either of these, I would say it's a Read Intentions action against the room or the group outside. Perception + Socialize.

Lirin and Rose can clearly see the guards are not having much luck to get the crowd dispersing...at least not with words alone, though obviously it's hard to tell how long it will take for it to get violent, even as several of the men and women outside begin to toss small stones at the glass building.

Inside, the echoing sound of the pebbles hitting the ancient glass sounds more like a light rain fall. At least to those distracted by their conversations. A few people perk up. Zhu Yin, mostly ignoring the guests for her cider, can tell the sound is not quite rain - it's too slow between strikes and too erratic. The few other people becoming distracted from their party going doesn't help to alleviate feelings that something is amiss.

The men and women outside are certainly angry, though it is not easy to tell what unless you're heading out there. You're no mind-reader. The party you're attending however is much easier to get a read of - the people are worried about something and this party seems to be explicitly a way to draw people's nerves from tenseness to ease.

If there is a leader, he has become as embroiled in the crowd as the others. No one voice shouts above the others - it's a full on mob. If one voice did start them out, he or she was as entangled by passions as the rest of them.

Sash fluttered his eyelashes a bit, playfully. "Swallow, you're asking the diplomat extraordinaire. I'll have a solution before the hour." He said confidently, reaching out and grazing the side of her face comfortingly. Her optimism always did help relieve him, as if with Ixie around it was impossible for him to fail. Breaking away from his companion, the raven-haired Exalt made his way towards the priestess giving her a small bow to show his respect.

Speaking with her as he was had the potential to be a risky endeavor. After all, when Silken Sash was announced at the party, the man couldn't even find a title to address him by. Taking a deep breath, he focused his energy, using his essence to blend into the atmosphere even further.

"Greetings, madame. I must say, it's so wonderful that the Tri-Khan could bring us all together like this, wouldn't you agree?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
It took a while for Yin to recognize what was going on. When she did, she immediately put down her goblet and walked towards the door.

"What is going on outside?" she asked to anyone listening. "I should go talk to them."

Unless someone stopped her (which guards and such probably wanted to do), she would open the door and go outside.

[OOC: Just a note to the ST. If Yin opens the door, people would generally not try to barge in easily. She'd activate MRP at the first attempt of someone trying to barge in. Should be enough to at least get people to hesitate enough for her to close the door behind her or exchange a line or two of dialogue.]

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
"I'm counting on you, Sash~  I hope we can fix whatever's about to happen. It doesn't look pretty." Bidding a quick farewell to Sash while he went to investigate the party, Ixie lightly cavorted her way over to the orichalcum-clad priestess she'd encountered earlier. When Yin wheeled about to head to the door, she found Ixie in her way, the perky, winged girl grinning warmly as she opened her wings and held out a hand. "It sounds like you figured something's going on. Yeah. Come with me. I'll get us out there. It's a whole crowd." Ixie explained, walking with the priestess naturally. She gave a little shrug. "Not sure what they're upset over, yet, I've got a friend looking into it. I thought someone like you might be able to talk them down, though. Last I saw they were throwing rocks." she suggested optimistically. "I just don't want anyone to get hurt..." she said, biting her lower lip.

Ixie led the way back along toward the entrance, giving her wings a ruffle as she stepped up to the door. to try and see if they could get out right now. "We might have to just go upstairs and jump off...?" she mused, until...

She spotted Lirin and Rose nearby, eyes giving a little flutter. "Hey~! Stranger~!" She chimed, stepping over and tapping Lirin on the shoulder. "Hey, you know anything about why there's that mess out there? I was thinking this priestess might be able to  help smooth things over out there, without.. umm.." she paused, glancing at the woman with the hammer. "...Wow, you're...tall. Please don't go hitting anyone with that... not just yet."

"Oh?" Yin said. "You think I'm a priestess?"

She rubbed the back of her head.

"I'm not. I mean, I was a monk, but ... I'm not anymore. I just don't own any other clothes so I may still look a bit holy."

She smiled, but there was a sadness there as well.

"I'm not afraid of rocks though. Bronze skin after all."

She chuckled.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
As Sash strikes up conversation, the pretty Guild merchant he's found seems to be the perfect gossip. He did have eyes for such a thing, and to her, he seemed just another guest. "It is a nice way to relax. Brings back the confidence with all the well..." Of course, as their conversation went on, Okapi mentioned this and that between drinks, complaining about the stresses of being a merchant. "It is nice to relax a minute - also shows the Tri-Khan's not broke - everyone's been worried about it after all. Missing food shipments from the Lap? Personally, I never put much stock in he-forgot-to-pay. The Delzahn tribes are too prosperous in cattle, meat, and bringing stones back from Gem. You ever see the rings on the man? One of those could buy a month of food for the city!" she chuckled as she seemed to talk a mile a minute. If he wanted his answer about the party, he had it. If he wanted a list of every gripe that a merchant in town had...well, he had that too.

We'll just have to try and calm things down for now." she advised helpfully, glancing between the other three with a perky smile.

Sash nodded, listening carefully to the gossip presented by the merchant, committing each detail to memory as exact as possible. The fact that food shipments were simply going missing was suspicious, to the say very least, and although he didn't show it, the elegant thief's blood was boiling at the prospect.

Okapi shook her head a single time. "Well if it was my product, I would be...still got everyone saving up their money though. I mostly deal in textiles personally. Bring down some of the furs of the North and bring back up fine cotton linens for high paying patrons. They go wild for them in Lookshy. Basic food stuffs though?" she scoffed and tsked a bit, as if she was disappointed just thinking about how the Tri-khan acted around the Guild, "The Tri-khan's got that all handled by his men. He's afraid that if the Guild had their hands on the grain supplies, we'd drive the price high as the Blessed Isle. Which I'm sure some of my fellow Guild merchants would do."

She made sure to ever so subtly point over to a man in Emerald-green robes who stroked his fu-manchu while smoking from a hookah with a few Delzahn men, "Jade Hind or whatever he goes by these days...notorious for it. He'd sell a pepple painted green as rare Jade obols from the Shogunate. But there's still a few merchants, like myself, who keep an honest price if you're ever looking for something lovely to wear to one of these events." As she says this, she palms a small card into your hand that seems to be directions to where she sets up shop so to speak in Chiaroscuro.

Nodding at Yin and Ixie's propsal, Lirin thinks for a moment before replying.  "If you think that you can calm them, it may be a better option than leaving it to the guards.  They are already upset, there is no need to make them even moreso by violence," he says before walking up to one of the party's uniformed guards, Lirin's most authoritarian look on his face.

"Guardsman," he starts, uncertain of the man's rank given his atypical status with the Tri-Kahn's men.  "We need to go out and talk with this crowd before it becomes a mob. Let us through and give us, and them, a few moments without armed and armored guards looming over them."

Listening carefully, Sash nodded along as Okapi spoke to show that he was listening. Any merchant who happened to deal with clothing was always a valuable asset for him, even more-so if they were willing to offer him a discount. Which, with the right amount of sweet talking, wasn't as hard to come by as one might think. Smiling, Silken Sash took the card and read over its contents before carefully tucking it within the folds of his robe. "I'll most certainly keep you in mind. ---

As the doors open, the situation outside is clearly escalating. While you're allowed out, the doors are open only long enough for a few shouts to attract attention inside. Then they're promptly shut once more. Violence hasn't broken out, but the guards of the Tri-khan have their scimitars drawn, pushing them towards the crowd to keep them backed up. While words are drowned by voices, it's obvious "-hungry", "-a party-", and a few choice less favorable words are thrown out the most often.

As several more things are thrown at the glass and even at Lirin, Ixie, Rose, and Zhu Yin, it's clear that the guards won't be playing nice much longer. And the crowd won't be either.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie was quick to slip out the doors, and promptly, she turned her eyes across the crowd, frowning as she spotted the guards keeping them at sword-point. Then again, the crowd was kind of hostile. Kind of. She flinched a little when a rock came her way, turning away from it in time to avoid having her wing smashed.  "Ahh! " She cried out, ducking behind Zhu Yin as per her request. "We can't do a thing to help them unless we can calm them down!" She called out, so she could be heard over the din of the crowd by the handful of people near her.  For all her optimism, Ixie really didn't know how to go about solving this problem. She didn't have a stash of food anywhere. She glanced over to Lirin. "I take it the Khan won't be amenable to helping them out?" she prompted with an uncertain frown. "People aren't going to take it easy if they're starving - I didn't realize things were this bad right now." she said, her expression softening a little.  She did not have her finger on the pulse of the market in town, unfortunately.

She glanced over to Rose.  "I... I don't think the hammer's going to help too much." she confessed sheepishly. "Hitting somebody is just probably going to incite the fighting that's about to boil over already." Her distress was audible in her voice, but she seemed incapable of admitting defeat. It was an impossible task for her, but she was wracking her mind for options. Grandmother Bright did have limited food stores, but those were reserved for her Plaza and those under her protection, and by her nature as a Goddess, that wasn't an option here.

OOC: Ixie doesn't have a lot of direct action options here, given her inherent social penalty. She's just going to try and provide moral support to the group!

"It'll be fine, you can do this," he thinks to himself, this group being far larger than he is used to handling.

Walking forward, in front the guard's line, he starts, "People of Chiaroscuro," buying time for Zhu Yin to think of something more useful to say, "What is your cause for this assembly today?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
The people give a moment of pause as the woman of bronze steps before them. Around the mob, people's hands lower, pulling them from their rage as the bold majesty of Zhu Yin stays them from throwing anything else. The awe inspired keeps them calm a moment - it compels them to silence and then brought out of the madness of the mob, a few voices rise up, now audible over the crowd's low murmur.

"We're hungry!"

"The Tri-Khan holds a party while waiting for us to starve!"

"The grain delivery's a week late! Where's our rations in the poor district."

"Feed us!"

Each complaint is a separate petition, but truly they are all the same. The faces of merchant, slum dweller, and artisan mix and mingle among the crowds, likely all from different districts, gathered along the way. While it's unlikely they're all hungry, a party did nothing for morale once they had been riled up. The vast majority of the men and women gathered are clothed in garb that marks them as likely from the tents set up in the lowest of the low districts.

She seemed surprised when they stopped throwing things, and gently peeked out from behind Zhu Yin, a hand lightly on the bronzed arm. "...We've got to do something..." She suggested, her eyes going to Lirin. After all, they'd worked together for the good of the city, before. "I don't suppose the Tri-Khan would hear you out on this matter?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Yin's stomach churned a little at the sight of the hungry mob. She had lived a very isolated life where she hadn't been exposed to much politics and where she had never seen people as hungry as this. She had never cooked in her life, since the good people of her home donated food to the monks of her temple. There weren't any luxuries on par with the Tri-Kahn. Everyone served the temple and everyone got along---at least from her perspective at the time.

She knew of the concept of poverty, but she couldn't truly grasp how poverty was a consequence of politics. She didn't know why these people were poor, and she couldn't help them in a practical way. She could only help them in a spiritual one.

"It is true that the Tri-Kahn have food," she said. "But you cannot simply demand them to share their food. I feel your pain. I have gone for weeks without a proper meal in my travels. It is not an easy thing to live about your life when you've got the growl in your belly."

She put her hand over her belly, vastly underestimated the level of malnourishment these people were suffering from. They weren't simply hungry after all. They were starving.

"Demanding someone to give you something is equal to theft," she said. "It is only called giving when it comes from a pure heart. If it's being forced, then it's not giving. Then you are the criminals, taking what isn't yours."

She looked back over her shoulder towards the gate leading indoors.

"There is a lot of food in there," she continued. "I don't know if it's enough for all of you. But even if it is, it isn't yours for the taking. Instead of yelling and throwing rocks, you should try to explain to the Tri-Kahn how they could help you live about a less painful life. Everyone has goodness in their hearts. I am sure they would want to help you if they understand how you truly feel, rather than being scared by how you act."

She showed them a genuine, innocent smile. If she only knew how they really felt, and the reason why things were this way. Then she would have acted differently. Unfortunately she didn't have that frame of reference yet.

"I have some bread in my satchel and I left a goblet of cider in there. That is all I can offer you. That is all that is mine."

[OOC: This will be tricky. Yin is genuinely trying to persuade them to stop with their actions by utilizing their intimacies towards being good people who don't want to steal for selfish purposes. She's totally clueless and someone should help her understand the situation later. ^^

Listener-Swaying Argument (3m Peripheral) will give me successes and bonus die depending on if the targets are having their resolves buffed aby anything. Harmonious Presence Meditation (already active and committed to). I max out my Excellency too (5m Personal). Total dice pool is 16 (+2 from stunt) = 18 dice.

Zhu Yin rolled 7 successes using 18d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 1,3,9,2,1,10,2,2,5,1,10,9,8,3,6,1,4,6.

Seven successes from before LSW is added to the equation. The bonus dice from there are non-Charm dice and can be added on top of the pool, even at this point. I imagine that there should at least be one more success and die since they probably have strong contesting intimacies.

You technically forgot the -3 penalty for making a social roll against multiple targets, however you get +1 die for Listener Swaying Argument (for their intimacy) and two dice extra for a 2 die stunt* - 7 successes still beats their resolve!

*If you're missing a Willpower, you may regain it, though don't think you are

The crowds murmur, silence, then return to murmuring, filling the cool night air with nothing but the sound of several dozen whispers. It seems Zhu Yin has caused the people to pause, at least momentarily, and while the guards look relieved, they stay with sword hands raised. Perhaps justifiably so - even as some people begin to leave, many more stay outside the gates of the party.

The first of the citizens to speak up against Zhu Yin does, one voice calling out, "Then what would you have us do? Starve in our homes? Not feed our children?" He was a short man with his hair just beginning to gray in front of the crowd.

Someone near the middle, well-dressed, added on, "Do you expect to feed the city with a loaf of bread? What will we do when the last reserve runs dry from the Tri-Khan throwing a party?"

Finally a woman garbed in blue scarves near the front yells, "If you care about our cause then speak with the Tri-Khan, not us! We have done nothing wrong!" Her voice pauses a moment shaking, then begs once more, "Please, help us! That's all we ask!"

She's going to try and create an intimacy for their cause with you
Normally she'd have 6 dice, but she's going to spend one of her two points of Willpower for one automatic success
11:54, Today: Sol Invictus rolled 3 successes using 6d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 2,1,9,10,4,4.

Ixie bit her lip, as one of the better-dressed people spoke. She made up her mind - she would do something about all this, even if the Tri-Khan wouldn't. She glanced briefly to the others standing by with her, then stepped out of her safe spot behind  Yin.

She looked aside and up at her with hopeful, questioning eyes, then gave a little nod. She'd help - it didn't take much to see what she wanted to say. She would help; somehow, at least.

"I could fly out and look for the missing caravan..." she offered Yin softly, to see what she had to say to that. "Well, sort of. I could glide out and see what I can see." she said softly. "Please, tell them we'll help...?" she whispered, then glanced back to the others, hopeful.

Resolve 5, but I'm also both waiving defense and accepting the intimacy (and honestly, would have a -2 from the duty to use my power to protect the helpless intimacy)

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Yin thought for a moment at the commoner's question. She then made up her mind.

"You cannot expect the Tri-Kahn to give you food," she said. "But neither do you have to give them things in return. Giving is a free choice. All humans are equal in the eyes of the gods. The Tri-Kahn are human, just like you. They have more things than you. They have more power than you. But they aren't gods. They do not have to share their things with you. But neither do you have to share your things with them."

She nodded towards one of the commoners.

"What do the Tri-Kahn take from you that you wouldn't freely share? What do they take from you that you would share from the goodness of your hearts? I believe that if less people are forced to do things they do not want, or has things taken from them that they don't want taken, the world will become a friendlier place where people are more willing to give gifts to others from the goodness of their hearts."

She then smiled.

"Each and every one of you are equally important to the Tri-Kahn because you are all humans. Those humans who become elevated by the gods become Royals of the Earth. They become Exalted. You all revere the Children of the Sea and the Flame and the Mountain and all the elements. Dragon-Blooded are all born humans, just like you. I am a sorceress. I was also born a human. There are people amongst you too who may rise to be more than human. The one standing next to you may become Exalted, or even a sorceress like me. One of the Tri-Kahn may become the same. All humans have the same potential to become greater than human, and because of that, all humanity should be treated equal."

She spoke from the heart again, without all the information that could actually be important.

"Treat others as you want to be treated. The Tri-Kahn do many good things for this land. They ensure order and stability. They are not perfect. You are all hungry and you feel they are hoarding food that would be better useful to others, such as yourselves. Convince the Tri-Kahn to treat you as they want to be treated. Stop working their fields unless you really want to. Stop abiding to their laws unless you really want to. Stop kneeling before them unless you really want to. Stop doing anything you don't want to do. Only by acting from the heart can you find true peace. When you want to do something good for someone else, then someone else will want to do something good for you."

The reaction is nearly instant, but it feels like a century. In the moment between the speech ending and the crowd's reaction, it's like every face contorts in slow motion. The roar of the incited crowd clearly goes through the walls of the building now as the crowd's collaborated riotous echo of

"BOO!"

becomes all that can be heard outside. Shouts speak out against Zhu Yin, "Go back to licking the boots of the Tri-Khan!" "You wish to see us die? We have no food of our own!" A few more things start soaring over the gates, a rotten fruit and a few pebbles hitting Zhu Yin. The people's willpower drives them past the radiance of her charm - she is no Majestic Being should she suggest they die for their ruler when they simply ask for food. "We do not demand theft, but our lives!". The shouts from the guards trying to contain them simply begin to lead back to square one. The mob rages and the guards push back against them to keep them out.

Except now, it gets worse. As one of the men in the front of the crowd strikes at a guard. The veiled Delzahn warrior draws his blade at the insult and raises it above his head to strike down the man that would dare hit a guard of the Tri-Khan...

-

Inside, Okapi looks around as more and more people perk up to the noise. "What do you suppose is happening out there?" she asks to the man who's taken such an interest in her. Her nerves got the better of her as she bit her lip and took a slow sip of her drink, the wine spinning in the cup after she pulled it away. What was happening was obvious but no one wanted to say it out loud. "I'm sure we're safe in here though, don't you think?"

"Maybe we can talk about something else. I've said so much about myself, what about you? What do you do,..." and then she chuckles a moment, a forced laugh amid the nervous change of subject, "I'm sorry, I don't believe I've even gotten your name. Are you with the Guild as well?"

Ixie could tell what was about to happen as soon as Yin finished. She felt her heart sink in her chest, and she was quick to duck back behind the bronzed woman for shelter from the incoming projectiles, drawing her wings in close. "W-what was that!?" Ixie asked, her voice sharper and more distressed now.

And just like that, her cover was gone. She turned her wide eyes to Lirin and Rose, shocked enough by the sudden outbreak of violence that there was a momentary delay as she tried to decide what to actually do about this, now.

The sound of discord began to crawl even through the inside of the Tri-Khan's party, causing the more relaxed conversation to become more frantic whispers. Sash tried to focus in on the mix of voices, his head turning off to the side for a moment, just briefly losing focus on his conversation with Okapi. "Well, whatever it is, I fear that it may not be pretty. A protest is one thing, but I don't think we would be hearing a simple protest all the way up here."

"Ah, yes, allow me to tell you about myself. My name is Zhen. I came with my partner- the two of us work in gem trade." He said, no sign of a falter in his voice. If this was a lie, then it seemed as if not even Silken Sash himself was aware of it. Craning his neck left and right, he pursed his lips a bit before looking to Okapi once more. "They must be around here somewhere. That poor darling is always skipping off one place or another."

"Motherf..." Lirin swears to himself as he sees the tell tale signs of a riot forming.  Stepping forward next to Zhu Yin as she moves to block the sword, his hand blurs and he draws his flame piece from the small of his back faster than the eye can see.
Drawing a bead above the surging crowd, he fires the weapon, the blast of flame just barely missing the mob, who has the burst of superheated air wash over them.   Accompanying the roar of the firedust is Lirin, shouting louder than the crowd and his weapon, "STAND DOWN!"

09:07, Today: Lirin rolled 5 successes using 9d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 4,9,3,5,10,10,1,2,6.  Join Battle + CofED + 2m Awareness Excellency.

5 successes, plus the auto 3, puts me at Initiative 8

On my initiative, assuming only the captain & Zhu Yin went before, I'll be doing a full Excellency Intimidation, spending a point of willpower on it too; only spending four peripheral on it though, as I get the other three from Indefinite Harmonious Presence Meditation

09:16, Today: Lirin rolled 5 successes using 16d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 2,4,3,6,1,6,2,2,5,1,5,5,10,7,10,6.  Intimidation, Full Excellency+HPM, +1 WP, +2 stunt.

14:16, Today: Lirin rolled 8 successes using 13d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 6,2,5,8,10,6,4,10,1,9,9,8,1.  Intimidate, now with a -3 penalty!

Six successes total, with the willpower.  That is a disappointing roll for 16 dice...

Huh, 9 successes now...  Thank you RNGesus!

Sol Invictus:

Initiative:
9: Delzahn Captain
8: Lirin, Zhu Yin
6: Ixie, Rose
4: Delzahn Guards (Size 1 Battle Group)
3: Hungry Mob (Size 2 Battle Group)

The crowd and guards alike stop as they look to Lirin's flame. The new leader has stepped forth and the crowd listens, at least for a moment.  And then they begin to flee. The fight ended before it had started, as most hadn't wanted more than answers - they were hardly upper class. Of course a few stayed, they cared enough that no show of force was going to scare them off.

The man who had about to be struck stood staring at the blade that hit Zhu Yin's arm, the woman he hated so much a moment ago rushing to defend him. The guard does not seem so please. "It is common enough ground. If the man plans to strike me, I plan to strike him back." He is certainly unwilling to backdown from the challenge to his authority, both from the man and from Zhu Yin.

The older woman who'd called out to Zhu Yin stands firm. Her cause, in her mind is just. As the crowd clears it's obvious that her hands are stained by dyes.

Three other men hold firm, two of them having drawn knives in fear of confrontation. It's obvious that they don't know how to fight, but the situation's only been paused - not resolved.

Zhu Yin's turn is used by her charm so it's on to Ixie and Rose.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie's wings gave a flutter, and her gaze turned from Zhu Yin to Lirin, then Rose.  She was decidedly unarmed and at a disadvantage, but luckily, she was also back from the direct engagement as well.  Knowing  an argument to the group would likely be moot from her lips, she bit her lip. "I'm going back inside to see what I can do about this there." She said, loud enough that the guards and the mob could both hear her. Either way, neither group could really close in fast enough to stop her from spreading her wings wide, and launching herself up with several powerful beats, before she alighted on the balcony above.

(Your call as to whether this needs to be a Withdraw action or not, since  I probably still need to track tick time since I'm not 'leaving the scene entirely', and I may well be returning to the scene, IE, I'm not 'running away from the area entirely'  but I'm using 3m periph for Monkey leap Technique to leap UP to the balcony  out of everyone else's reach with my reflexive move. I'm not making a social attack, but my statement itself should be a relevant fact that might impact things as they go.  I don't think anyone down there can follow me, and it is probably a pretty plausible feat for a winged girl :D)

Once she alighted on the balcony, Ixie started back toward the interior,  mind reeling. If she didn't come up with something to do about all this, there were going to be killings in the streets over a party!  She immediately set to work looking for  Silken Sash - she was going to need his silver tongue to get anything done in here.

(6 Successes Per+Aware)

Not sure if I can reach him in time to  also get a chance to talk to him in the moment :D; that's your discretion.

Okapi nods as if thinking back, but she talks as if trying to cover her own blunder, "Ah yes, of course. I think I remember you. Silly me, must not have been paying much attention when you entered. Those announcements of guests get so dull after a while." As a servant walks by she pulls off a candied date off of the plate he carries and then another, handing one to Zhen. "And these," she said in a whisper as she took a bite, her eyes fluttering, "Are half the reason I still come to these silly affairs." Even as she finishes in and takes another sip from her cup of wine, she asks, "Say, have you traveled to Gem or heard any news from further South? I've been hear-" before she can finish her sentence however, she's cut off but wing flapping past.

The clearly rushed Quixotic Quetzal found the man she was looking for, stepping between Silken Sash and the merchant woman he'd been chatting with. "Excuse me, can I help you?" she said, many more people having watched the girl flutter through the window and rush through the crowds now stared. "Excuse me, if you wish to speak with Mr. Zhen, you could try not interrupting other people's business."

None seem very convinced by Rose's dialogue. They had little proof she would aid them; little reason to trust her. But the lone woman who remained asked, "What is your name then?" She stared at Rose intently. She did not look like a woman starving, but it was clear she was a woman of determination. Regardless of the weapon Rose carried, she did not seem afraid to speak, "I have children to feed. I have myself to feed for their sake. That food is vital to us, to many others." From the side of her eyes she glares at the woman of bronze, "We are not thieves. But we sit north of nothing but desert - if the Tri-Khan cannot bring food here, we are helpless. You seem a hardworking woman, I only ask you help us receive our fair share."

I don't want to fight someone who needs help, but I don't want to break guest-right. Make sense?"

I'd make this at least a one-dot die as the laws of hospitality are pretty huge in desert cultures like the Delzahn, but I will make the roll without it.

The woman still looks over to where the guard seems ready to chop the man's head off, they the main source of unrest at the moment. She says, "That is all we ask. I thank you." Keep my face in your mind and my name on your tongue. Vivid Blush wishes only to feed her children and take care of her home in this jewel of a city. Silken Sash took the date and eyed it for a moment, parting his lips and taking a bite out of the food. He let the flavors sink into his tongue for a moment before chewing and swallowing. "Ah, a party is only as good as its refreshments, no?" He said, smiling. Of course, there was no way that someone as wealthy as the Tri-Khan could offer poor quality treats... even at the expense of the populace outside.

Before he could answer about the south- and more importantly, gather any more important gossip, a flurry of golden and green was in his face- his friend, Quixotic Quetzal. There was no way that she would just soar about like this unless there was something important going on. Offering a bow to Okapi, he began to walk away. "I'm terribly sorry, there's been an emergency. Let's talk more later, darling.

Popping the date into his mouth, he began to go off with Quetzal, chewing hastily. "I imagine this wasn't just for exercise, what's going on?"

Sash was smooth, though, and already made excuses about an emergency, Izie just gave an earnest little nod to confirm his assessment. "Uh-huh." she said in her peppy tone, then offered the woman a brief, apologetic smile. Then she was off with Sash, leaning over and up to whisper, her wing discreetly hiding her lips from anybody who might try reading them.

"Apparently it's a food shortage, there was a whole riot going on outside over this party. There's a missing food shipment, and, well... we've got to do something, right? I don't want to see anybody get hurt or starve."

I have no connection to the Tri-Kahn other than that I was invited to this feast as a thank you for helping someone in need. If you are in need, I would like to help you too. He whispered, filling his friend on the information that he'd gathered from chatting with Okapi.

I left a few people to try and calm it down, but I... really kind of misjudged that bronze lady's social skills..." Ixie blushed a little, fussing with one of her pinned-up twin-tails. As his blade spins in his hand he pricks the ground with it, ready to draw a circle for fighting. "Until first blood? It is either you or him."

The man you blocked the strike from seems terrified, not a fighter or soldier, but simply a common man of Chiaroscuro knowing all too well the fate of a loser in a duel with a Delzahn.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie gives a little flinch as she spots Zhu Yin coming back in, and pauses, unsure of just what to make of things right away... "Ahh... What happened out there? Is everyone alright?" she asked, with a slight, anxious frown crossing her face. She could chastise Yin later - for now, though, what mattered was making sure people didn't start killing each other...

That wouldn't help anyone eat.

Ixie tipped her head and tugged at one of her twintails lightly. "I... sort of meant after I left... Right now, we just need to worry about the food - and making sure it doesn't go out of control, right?" she glanced to the others. "They mentioned that food hadn't arrived, right? I wonder why - We need to see if the food was just waylaid in the desert, or if it's a bigger problem..."

Lirin pinches the bridge of his nose and closes his eyes as he thinks for a moment.  "And hear I was think the worst that I'd have to deal with is some drunk merchants..."

Taking a deep breath he looks up at Zhu Yin, the anger in his eyes dulled slightly.  "My apologies for my tone.  But as I said, you have potentially made a small problem into a much larger one.  First we need to speak to the Tri-Khan though.  Get some information."

The party's general murmur seems quieter and it is not much longer until an announcement signals the end of the festivities. It is early in the night, but it seems most people have a general idea of why, if not specifics. Even as people flood out of the party though, they remain quiet, few wishing to make an insult of the man in charge of the city in his own home. A few give looks at the small congregation that you have formed near the door, but none speak. It's unclear how many might be wondering why the Trikhan's man Lirin speaks with so many strangers others perhaps curious as to what the bird woman Ixie could have been involved with.  At least a few stare at Zhu Yin, more than likely for her skin of Bronze than any folly they have yes to learn about.

"Quite a fine mess this has devolved into, no?" Sash asked, scanning over the group of party-goers that had assembled outside. If things were left as they were, it wouldn't be much of a shock to see the massive glass spire come crashing downwards. "I suppose the question is, do you think the Tri-Khan is being blackmailed? Or is this his own doing?"

As the party thinned out and other sstarted to leave, Ixie sheepishly blushed and rubbed a hand up into her hair lightly. She still had the fancy ring Silk had given her, too!  Still, she just looked a bit awkward as people eyed her and the others on their way out.

"A-anyway..."
She finally spoke up, once things had quieted down a bit, looking briefly to Sash, then over to Lirin. "Y-yeah, I... I did kind of put her up to trying to do something about it without really knowing the situation very well..." She said, and turned to Yin. "F-for what it's worth, sorry about that... I shouldn't have pushed you to do the talking."

She cleared her throat, once she had her apology out of the way. "R-right. So.. Do we wanna start with the Tri-Khan? Maybe see what we can figure out here, or... think we should look into searching for the shipment. We need to at least know where it was coming from if we're going to go looking for it, right? I don't... know much about trade, okay?"

"We need to find out why the shipment went missing.  I am sure that the Tri-Khan will have a reason; I will speak with him to discuss that as well as try and head off the guard's report from reaching his ears.  My take will be far more favorable than his."

Lirin turns back and curtly nods farewell to the others before heading to the back to find the Tri-Khan now that the party is winding down.

Ixie rocked back on her heels and fluttered her wings lightly as she mulled the situation over. She gave Lirin a nod, as he declared his plan. "Right~  You know him, so you're probably the best one to talk to him. Umm... hey, Sash - wanna go along with Lirin? You might be able to... you know, pick up on anything if he's not being totally above board, right?" she prompted her friend gently.  She knew he was a smooth operator, at least. "Maybe meet up with the rest of us at the Bright Plaza? I guess we'll all go get ready to go find the shipment?" she prompted, looking to Yin and Rose with a slight shrug. "You mentioned that you need to get your armor - I left my crossbow at home, so I need to get that if we're going out hunting for whatever..."

She paused, and then glanced to Yin. ".. and.. ah...  hey... I know you did your best." She put a hand out, on her shoulder. "At least nobody got hurt, right?" she said with a nervous laugh. "I call that a win~" she chimed with an awkward, but optimistic tone, a bit  sheepish as she tried to earnestly cheer her up.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
"You all have made a pretty big mess of things, haven't you?" came the voice of one man who separated from the leaving crowds. Tall and muscular and dark skinned in what few parts of his skin showed behind his veil. His voice was surprisingly not filled with contempt, but he quickly apologized, "Not to intrude, but it sounds like you three are hoping that you can fix the blunder." The man's many rings and gaudy stone-inset amulet indicate his status as a Delzahn noble, and as he gives a slight bow, he introduces himself as "Ulan Zatushk-Beykhan."

-

Meanwhile, as Lirin goes to meet with the Tri-khan, it becomes more and more obvious that he has already retired for the night to his room, no longer about the now emptying party he hosted. "He's already heading up to his room," informed one of the few Delzahn guards on duty, pointing to the First Age lift that rises up several floors of the tower. Lirin had been in the Delzahn's private penthouse 30 stories above the ground level before, but the guard who'd spoken already to Lirin warned, "Just as a warning, he's not in the best of moods."

Ixie decided to take the lead after a moment's consideration - Yin seemed to have at least some of her confidence shaken, and Rose was - well, everything about her was really blunt...  She stepped up to the noble who spoke up to them, and after his brief introduction, she sheepishly glanced back to the others. "Ehe... Yeaaah, about that..." she began, but he pressed on too, and she trailed off to let him finish his introduction.

The perky little fae-blood offered a little bow of her own in return. "I'm Ixie~ You said something about us fixing things? Do you know anything about the shipment that's missing? We did hear about it, but we don't know where it was supposed to be coming from or why it's been delayed. It seemed like the best plan was to go see if it had broken down or was attacked in the desert or something, but we don't really know where to start looking, yet. Or if it was even coming overland, maybe it was an actual ship-ment... ya'know?"

The quirky girl tipped her head with a grin. "It's really good that you want to help, though. Not a lot of that here today, so, I'm glad you came to us~"

"One of the guards serving at the party is from my sept," though as he notices that most of you, or truly all of you, are not Delzhan, he clarifies sept as, "My tribe - those who share the name Zatushk. He was saying what happened outside to me and it seems quite a pickle."

Questioned however, he answers, "I don't. It could be anything from missing shipments to the Tri-Khan simply wasting money on these parties. He's trying to play the Realm and the Guild at the same time...Tri-Khan before him would never do that precisely for this reason, I'm sure. However, The Water Carrier Drinks No Slime," he says, citing a proverb of the Delzahn, only to insist, "I cannot simply burn away any wealth and standing I have on trying to feed the masses of Chiaroscuro, but I would like your assistance. Where could I be the most help? I wish to purchase food and supplies where they can help the most."

He seems to be sincere in wanting to help the residents Ixie

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
As the lift of glass rose up, powered by systems Lirin didn't pretend to understand, he could feel the talisman he wore give off a resonating buzz. It didn't actually move, or glow, or truly do anything, but Lirin could feel it. Still, the floor he wanted was quick to reach when it wasn't slaves pulling on pulleys of a lift and with a cloudlike gentleness, the glass floor stopped on the floor he was meant to arrive at.

It was impossible not to hear the shouting from the Tri-Khan's room as a Delzahn noble left, clearly unable to learn much from talking to the king - or perhaps unable to play this the way he wanted. Everyone wanted something from the man Lirin served and as soon as his foot steps entered, the large-turban of his head nearly fell off as he turned to shout "I thought I said-Oh! Lirin," and near immediately his hands went to his face with dread as the older man considered carefully what to say, settling on the words, "What a disaster this night has become." He almost looked expectantly to the Exalt ignorant of his own abilities, practically praying that Lirin could bring him good news.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Yin hadn't said anything since she got back inside. And for a woman with so much natural "presence", her confidence seemed to have taken a hit. She seemed ashamed, having completely misread a situation and caused an awkward mess. All she hoped now was that the others at least knew that her intentions were good. She only wished that things weren't so urgent that she could sit down and have a conversation with everyone. She wanted to tell them who she was and where she came from, so that they understood why she had made a fool of herself.

Standing at the back of the group, she let out a low whisper.

"Is there anything I can do?" she asked.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie, for her part, briefly gave the other two women a gentle frown as they ignored her question. Not really a lot of help from them in that regard. She turned her gaze back to the guildsman. "Well, that's about the best advice I have on that for now. I don't want you to get overrun by desperate, hungry people. If you start feeding some, people are going to come to you. All I can say is try to make sure there's not any violence - that's really not what anyone wants when we're trying to help people." She offered a hopeful little smile. "A couple of my companions are talking to the Tri-Khan right now, though. Maybe we'll have some clues or support once they get done. I think we're planning to set out and see if we can uncover what happened to the missing shipment, and try to retrieve what we can, if it went missing en route."

Ixie turned to Rose and Yin at that, stretching her wings out and arms up, drawing her hands in behind her head with a yawn, and a little twist to her slight frame... "I have to go get my crossbow from home before we go - I could ask Grandmother Bright if she can provide any advice on this. I don't think she can do to much actual helping - her priority is maintaining the Plaza, and she can't compromise that for the sake of the city - that just isn't how Gods work. But I do know she'd want to help."

"I am certain that Grandmother Bright has seen the plaza through tougher times than these," confirmed Ulan, as he nodded at Ixie's statement. "Practical advice is what I want though. It would be a wonderous thing if I could feed all the children of the city or even a few, but even if I feed all the children living in the richest districts, I wouldn't really be helping." He seemed to easily appraise that none of the women standing in front of him were from great wealth, which seemed to add to why he had come to them, "Perhaps I should be more clear. I would like you to report to me should you actually see where I could be the most help. With people like this, I don't exactly want to be walking up and down the streets handing out silver and jade."

Ixie's eyes fluttered and she blushed a little as Ulan regarded her. "Oh... right. Well, that shouldn't be too hard to piece together. I'll get the information together on where people are hit hardest, and let you know as soon as I know." she said, then turned to Yin and Rose. "... Maybe you two can get water for the trip. I don't think we should take food given the problem the city is in. I should be able to hunt, if we need anything on the way. Not a lot to hunt, but I can shoot a desert lizard from fifty paces."

Really, Grandmother Bright would definitely have that kind of information. People turned to her frequently, seeking help, even if she didn't have the resources to help everyone, she should have the information. "I'm going to go get my own gear, I think. I'll check in with Grandmother Bright, figure out where you should set up, and be back in a few minutes." she said to Ulan.

"Now, I wonder if they'll let me go up and jump off one of the upper balconies for my fly back to the Plaza..."

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
The last words the Tri-Khan wanted to hear spoken were of course the first ones said in the conversation. "Missing food, panic and starvation in the streets, we starve we starve we starve." His hands slammed down as he quotes the things he'd been hearing, and stood. "Our food supplies are fine. We've got a single shipment missing. This is why we have reserves. People can a smaller portion in the dole, learn one shipment didn't show up, and they call me a tyrant. The Realm calls me desperate. The Guild calls me bankrupt!"

He sat back down with a 'harumph' before placing his fingers to his temples once more. "I have held the title Tri-Khan for three generations. And even with the city at it's best, it never gets any easier. The missing shipment is troubling, but it does not spell the end." As he looks to Lirin, he asks, "Someone must be inciting this all. I need you to figure out who it is. Unease is one thing, but I don't think I'd have a mob at my door if this was simply unease. And you..." he said as he appraised Sash up and down, "Apologies you must see me at my worst. May I ask your occupation? Are you with the Guild?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
It's about as hard to read the Tri-khan's face as it is any good politician. He's maintained 40 years of office for a reason.

"Ha, I may have inherited his title, but don't mistake me for some god-king like Tamas Khan," the man says, letting out a guffawing laugh at the 'humans' comment, taking Sash's words as a joke. And a much needed one at that. But his face hardens soon enough as he begins to think. "We've had shipments delayed before. People always go on edge. I will not have riots breaking down my city."

He looks to Lirin once more to confirm Sash's good standing, before he looks intently. "I believe it's time to win the people over. I tried to win the rich and it ended less than perfect. To do that, we've got to cut out the abscess itself, not cover it up - Lirin, Silken Sash; Someone is causing these riots and I want to know who and I want them stopped." His voice was strict, perhaps the wound to his reputation throbbing as much as an actual dagger for one in such a perilous position.
