Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Sash nodded in response. "Yes, she told me much the same. Something suspicious is going on. One ring on the Tri-Khan's hand is enough to feed the population for a month, at least, so either he's abusing funds, or someone has his personal jewels in a vice." He whispered, filling his friend on the information that he'd gathered from chatting with Okapi.

"I knew you planned to help them before you even opened your mouth. I feel for them, I do... I'll assist you to the best of my abilities. Are they still arguing outside?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Sash's response to Ixie's  information prompted a nod from the energetic avian. "I'm not sure which, honestly.  Most of the fighting has died down, out there - the bulk of the crowd dispersed, but, there's still a bit of a standoff. I left a few people to try and calm it down, but I... really kind of misjudged that bronze lady's social skills..." Ixie blushed a little, fussing with one of her pinned-up twin-tails. She beamed a bit at Sash's assessment of the notion that he knew she'd want to help before she ever said a word.

"Thanks, Sashy. You're the best." She said earnestly, before turning her eyes across the room. "Think there's anything we can do in here, or do we need to get out there and stop this?"

Sash tapped at his chin, glancing around the room at the party goers, many of which had been flustered by Ixie's sudden appearance.

"Mmn. I think you might be the talk of the party now, so for the time being, it'll be hard to fish for more information. Are the poor still outside? Perhaps I can talk to them, try to settle them down. Maybe one of them will even have some knowledge of the missing caravan.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
"Want to help him, fine, then why don't you accept the challenge," the guard says, "Formerly I challenge him, but I do not fear a challenge from a sorceress," the cocky young 'peacekeeper' says. As his blade spins in his hand he pricks the ground with it, ready to draw a circle for fighting. "Until first blood? It is either you or him."

The man you blocked the strike from seems terrified, not a fighter or soldier, but simply a common man of Chiaroscuro knowing all too well the fate of a loser in a duel with a Delzahn.

"I think that's a stupid idea that will prove nothing and that will be a waste of everyone's time."

Yin crossed her arms and sighed at the guard before she turned her attention back to the man.

"Don't worry," she said to him. "This guard is a coward. If we ignore him, he will go away."

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
The guard laughs heartily, but the man explains quickly, "It's exile to refuse a formal duel. Even for non-Delzahn." And the Delzahn's sword taps loudly against the metal soon enough, "So what will it be? You, him, or a forfeit against my superior skill? You can even choose the weapon. I am certain the TriKhan would lend us anything you see fit if we put on a good show."

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie covere dhe rlips with the feather sof one wing, lightly giggling at Sash's assessment. "Oh, am I now?" she answered with athin tone of delight, before moving back to the more serious matter - really, she had wanted to be all classy and elegant for once, and this party was just the chance. Still, she always had to go getting herself into trouble... She could only hope Grandmother Bright wouldn't be upset with her after all was said and done...

Ixie gave Sash an animate little nod. "Uh-huh. Most of them dispersed, but there's still a few. It was starting to look like a fight might break out, though, so I had to try something to break the standoff.  I don't imagine we can just talk the Tri-Khan into helping them, but we've got to do something. Come on, I can probably get you outside." Ixie chimed, starting to make her way through the crowds toward the doors she'd exited a couple of minutes ago.

"umm~ 'scuse us. We just need to slip back outside again~" Ixie grinned, waving her fingers as she was doubtles sunforgetable to the guards who'd let her out earlier.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Yin sighed and gave the guard a look.

"Do you seriously think that there is some kind of honor in challenging a common man? Everyone who'd see such a duel would find you pathethic, even if you win. It is a lose-lose situation for you."

She grabbed the soldier by his collar and pulled him in close, giving him a deathstare right in his eyes.

"I suggest you apologize to this man and walk away," she said. "That's the only way you'd keep your dignity today."

[OOC: I'm going to intimidate the guard.

Harmonious Presence Meditation gives +3 dice. Tiger's Dread Symmetry gives +1 die. Will add the remaining +4 dice from Excellency. That's a total of 4m spent.

Zhu Yin rolled 5 successes using 16d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 9,3,1,6,7,4,3,2,2,4,6,8,9,7,2,4.

And rerolling three failed dice as per Tiger's Dread Symmetry.

Zhu Yin rolled 1 success using 3d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7 with rolls of 2,7,4.

Total 6 successes on intimidation. Will spend a Willpower for a 7th success.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
The Delzahn noble pushes back, shoving to get Zhu Yin off of him as he yells, "Fine, fine." Though just as he backed off and began to pull back, he turned to Zhu Yin, letting her know, "You will regret this," before he continued to storm off. Any sort of apology was absent from his exit, but he had backed down.

The stunned man stares, jaw slightly slacked at the woman of bronze who seems to have threatened the guard. "What have you done?" The man's hands shake as he repeats a few times, "No no no. Why did I strike him," before he looked back up to Zhu Yin, "And why did you antagonize him?"

"I did it to save your life. And he antagonized me."

She looked at the crowds.

"I've made a mess of things here because I made assumptions about your ways of life. I'm going to correct this, and I'm going to help make your lives better. But if you want me to take your side in this conflict, I need to be convinced of your suffering. I need to see it with my own eyes."

She nodded to him.

"Where should I go to learn why you are so angry?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
"You have made a mess," the man said again, "I'd much rather have a single cut than have an enemy who wants me thrown out of the city." But as the man seemed to bite his tongue and then sigh he explained, "It's not like we're dying in the streets but we know there hasn't been a grain shipment in over a week. No rice, no wheat, no food for those of us not eating honey and cheese and whatever else you fancy party goers are dining on." Crowd was not much of a word for what few people were left, only the man you'd defended, Vivid Blush who is speaking to Rose, and three others who remained after the crowd dispersed. "If the Delzahn can afford a party, then he should be paying for the food for his city."

"I will investigate the missing grain shipment," Yin said. "You have my word. If these Delzahn are truly awful people, then I will not be defending them."

She turned and began to walk back indoors. She was going to question the lords of this house herself, to hear the situation from their perspective.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Even as she walks in, guards move out of the way to let her pass, none wanting a confrontation with the woman of brass. Her confrontation with the other Delzahn has left them not wanting any more trouble with her. As the doors open for her to enter, Ixie and Sash stand on the other side about to exit.

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Ixie gives a little flinch as she spots Zhu Yin coming back in, and pauses, unsure of just what to make of things right away... "Ahh... What happened out there? Is everyone alright?" she asked, with a slight, anxious frown crossing her face. She could chastise Yin later - for now, though, what mattered was making sure people didn't start killing each other...

That wouldn't help anyone eat.

"A mess is what happened," Lirin replies curtly, clearly annoyed at Zhu Yin.  "The priestess here decided to take a relatively fixable problem, a lack of food, and use it to try and incite a rebellion."

Ixie tipped her head and tugged at one of her twintails lightly. "I... sort of meant after I left... Right now, we just need to worry about the food - and making sure it doesn't go out of control, right?" she glanced to the others. "They mentioned that food hadn't arrived, right? I wonder why - We need to see if the food was just waylaid in the desert, or if it's a bigger problem..."

"Thank you Ixie.  Yes, we need to see what happened to the food and if it is indicative of something greater.  And all before any seeds of rebellion that may have been planted, begin to sprout."

Lirin pinches the bridge of his nose and closes his eyes as he thinks for a moment.  "And hear I was think the worst that I'd have to deal with is some drunk merchants..."

Taking a deep breath he looks up at Zhu Yin, the anger in his eyes dulled slightly.  "My apologies for my tone.  But as I said, you have potentially made a small problem into a much larger one.  First we need to speak to the Tri-Khan though.  Get some information."

"You threw oil on fire," Rose said bluntly over her shoulder. "Still, gotta see if the Delzahn will release some grain from their stocks for the horses. Or the horses might just wind up dinner when people get angry."

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
The party's general murmur seems quieter and it is not much longer until an announcement signals the end of the festivities. It is early in the night, but it seems most people have a general idea of why, if not specifics. Even as people flood out of the party though, they remain quiet, few wishing to make an insult of the man in charge of the city in his own home. A few give looks at the small congregation that you have formed near the door, but none speak. It's unclear how many might be wondering why the Trikhan's man Lirin speaks with so many strangers others perhaps curious as to what the bird woman Ixie could have been involved with.  At least a few stare at Zhu Yin, more than likely for her skin of Bronze than any folly they have yes to learn about.

"Quite a fine mess this has devolved into, no?" Sash asked, scanning over the group of party-goers that had assembled outside. If things were left as they were, it wouldn't be much of a shock to see the massive glass spire come crashing downwards. "I suppose the question is, do you think the Tri-Khan is being blackmailed? Or is this his own doing?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
As the party thinned out and other sstarted to leave, Ixie sheepishly blushed and rubbed a hand up into her hair lightly. She still had the fancy ring Silk had given her, too!  Still, she just looked a bit awkward as people eyed her and the others on their way out.

"A-anyway..."
She finally spoke up, once things had quieted down a bit, looking briefly to Sash, then over to Lirin. "Y-yeah, I... I did kind of put her up to trying to do something about it without really knowing the situation very well..." She said, and turned to Yin. "F-for what it's worth, sorry about that... I shouldn't have pushed you to do the talking."

She cleared her throat, once she had her apology out of the way. "R-right. So.. Do we wanna start with the Tri-Khan? Maybe see what we can figure out here, or... think we should look into searching for the shipment. We need to at least know where it was coming from if we're going to go looking for it, right? I don't... know much about trade, okay?"

Re: Chapter 1: The High and Lows
Looking at everyone at the party who may now be watching, Lirin takes another deep breath and replies without turning around.

"We need to find out why the shipment went missing.  I am sure that the Tri-Khan will have a reason; I will speak with him to discuss that as well as try and head off the guard's report from reaching his ears.  My take will be far more favorable than his."

Lirin turns back and curtly nods farewell to the others before heading to the back to find the Tri-Khan now that the party is winding down.
