The fire hobgoblin was quietly studying various tactics and arcane knowledge in between trips to the library and the training grounds to gauge his soon to be adversaries.

Each square is 100' on each side, too far for most characters to charge in the first round. It'll be a tense beginning.

A good example of clean formatting and giving appropriate information:

Readied Action: Sundering Charge if the armored hobgoblin woman comes within range. Target is her armor.

Contestant 935 rolled 13 using 1d20+5.  Sundering Charge (2H Power Attact -2).
Contestant 935 rolled 14 using 1d8+9.   Sunder Damage.

Note the rounds are counting down until the effect of the spell ends. You may count up, down, or sideways, so long as you are consistent. For abilities with a cooldown, track the cooldown, such as a dragons or half-dragons breath weapon. For the organized, blocky letters, use the Monotype formatting. Be sure to preview your post to be sure it looks the way you want it to before posting

Two player contestants have fallen, five seem to have the upper hand, three seem to be keeping even, and one is tenacious despite the odds.

Win or lose, feel free to post your post-combat here.

The Tournament, Part 1
404 stumbles away from the preliminary match coughing up blood, looking a bit shaken. His usually-pristine uniform is soaked with blood from a major neck wound, which after a healing and cleaning from the officials looks like a thin, dark scar, showing he was nearly beheaded by something extremely sharp and quick. With his uniform and body clean, he feels around his scar for a while, still shocked. He accepts his weapon from another nearby official and sheaths it before spitting out a bit more of his own blood. Lastly, he turns and salutes the tortle who took him down in an instant.

The Tournament, Part 1
As soon as she is able to stagger from her arena and recover, 152 will go straight to training doggedly. She is furious with herself, much as she'd like to blame anyone else her own ineptness is what haunts her the most. Part of her thinks she never should have come just to be humiliated this way, but overall she is determined to do better. Her pride will have it no other way. Her ferocious scowl likely keeps most a safe distance from her as she goes about her training.

338 holds his chest, rubbing softly the injury he received as he walks out of the arena while slightly laughing. " Hehe, Auch! H-he even  asked why do wizards run all the time, You'd run too if you could go down in one attack " He says as he looks around, Unaware of how much time passed since he fainted "I wonder if that tortle is still around, He's such an awesome warrior... And i may owe him an apology for annoying him so much"

Fading back in from the darkness, the monk realizes yet again that he is severely outmatched.  What kind of tournament matches opponents up like this?  It certainly can't be appealing to a crowd to have such obvious winners... Perhaps the initial rounds were randomized, to create brackets...  he reassures himself.  I must seek out that Orc.  He did come to my aid quite readily.  Perhaps he knows more about the tournament than I...  The monk hurries off to try and scope out the orc who had attempted to assist him.

He exits the arena slowly, his head throbbing from where the water halfling dealt his final blow.  Although mildly upset about his early defeat, he takes it as a lesson to never again underestimate an opponent that doesn't like much for fighting.  Instead, he turns his attention to other matters.  "Some ice for my head and some food for my belly.  Yes, that's what I need."  He smiles at the thought and heads to the nearest pub.

471 exits the arena confidently, a little bit more smug than he should be since he managed to win with out even getting hurt. "Hopefully my next match will provide more of a challenge." he says while debating his next course of action. After walking around for a while and finding a pub, "I think a little bit of booze and food is well deserved after a victory." 471 will proceed to enter the pub to get something to eat and drink.

Sitting up while his wounds are still being healed, 449 removes his helm to reveal a very excited smile and looks down at his armor, feeling and now seeing it repairing before his eyes. "I need a place like this to fight more often!" Hopping up as the healer finishes, he walks to the door of the tent and as the blood is magically cleaned from him he asks whoever seems to have authority here "Is there anywhere I can fight more? Maybe you can advertise to the other losing contestants where to meet for more action?" If he's bothered by the 3-on-1 match, it doesn't show, aside from in the number of marks and wounds he and his armor earned.

The hobgoblin began looking around for other contestants or people who might be aware of ways he might be able to train his magic to the next level.

The Tournament, Part 1
35-3-2972AN

The day after the preliminary matches, the first day of the tournament, goes quite well, weather and all. Please privately send your preparations and actions for the day, including spell lists for casters, outfits, gear, and if you will be attending the fireworks show over the ocean from the port district tonight. The only other decent view points will be from boat, atop a wall, or from the upper floors of the castle, which will all be difficult or impossible to achieve. Wearing a single weapon seems common in this town, but being fully outfitted for combat draws glares this long after arrival unless you are headed to or from the academy training grounds. There will be a 3-hour intermission between the end of the tournament at the start of the fireworks show for freshening up, dinner, and workers prepping the show. Do remember not to metagame. (the use of out-of-game information or resources to affect one's in-game decisions.) We all know as players that the game is about to start, but our characters are relaxing, likely enjoying this time and place as a vacation, so think and act as your character would. Anything you would prefer other contestants not know or see, send in a private line to me, your Overseer.

The Tournament, Part 1
152 decides to watch the fireworks, though she wishes she could do so away from other people. Hopefully the scowl on her face will deflect most folk. As tempting as it was to go sulk in her room, the idea of seeing anything pleasant and distracting is enough to make the antisocial woman leave her comfort zone. She will also grab something simple and quick to eat, not in the mood to linger over a meal. Anyone who sees her will notice a grumpy looking woman, seemingly unarmed, dressed in brilliant orange robes.

After eating dinner in his quarters, 254 heads to the pub for a drink.  He lingers there a bit too long, barely arriving to the site of the show with enough time to find a decent place to watch.  He's dressed in pretty light clothing for the day, the gold ring on his finger bearing the symbol of the gold dragons standing in stark contrast with the simplicity of his clothes.

471 will start his day off like he always does. Morning exercise, basic hygiene, and breakfast. For his morning activities he will wear simple clothes again, and carry both his katana and wakazashi with him.

When it is time for dinner and the fireworks show, 471 will dress in a more regal fashion. Even though he does not like to wear those types of clothes, he knows it would be disrespectful on his end to wear something cheap. He will still carry both of his weapons with him, he never leaves the two weapons separated from each other. He will head to the castle an hour before the feast will start, once there he will eat and watch the fireworks.
