Mission One: The First Drop
Reach. Taken by the covenant some time ago, it was now July 4th 2554 and the UNSC was preparing to retake the planet, due to its tactical positioning.

A fleet of 379 warships was being used, despite the fact that many high ranking officers thought it suicide to retake a barren planet. The mission was simple. Destroy the loyalist legions holding the planet, and secure the capital which had not been glassed.

Loyalist Covenant Legions still held the planet, though the fleet guarding the planet had been defeated. The ODST division had just been dropped....

Falling from the atmosphere to the planets surface was something...exhilarating. In was like the most extreme carnival ride one had ever ridden, causing many newer recruits to vomit on their first drop. Covenant anti air defense systems were firing up at the falling pods, trying to kill as many of the ODST's as possible. Feeling like sitting ducks all the ODST's could do was hope that they weren't hit as they watched other pods explode into flames, the dying screams of their comrades echoing in their helmets. The Squad Sergeants voice could be heard.

"Steady...breathe troopers, stay focused and don't let fear grip you. We WILL retake this planet!"

The sergeants voice was only a small comfort, since most in the squad were terrified. This was there first combat drop, and all hell had erupted around them. Suddenly the altitude readout sounded an alarm as impact approached. 5,4,3,2,1...

The pod slammed into the ground, the harness holding the trooper firmly in place. The pods doors whooshed open and suddenly the trooper was in the middle of a warzone, weapons fire flying everywhere, explosions, falling pods, troops running and diving for cover, dirt, gore, and screams filling in the air. Chaos.

(And we're live! There is ample cover everywhere. If you move to cover, just say so and you will find moderate cover, which gives a -2 to any shots made at you. Going prone gives the same bonus, if you go prone by cover it accumulates for a -4 cover bonus. Uploading equipment now!)

Mission One: The First Drop
First time in the drop-pod made Ducart nervous and claustrophobic. They say the drop is like the judgment time in the martial court and if you make it out, it is the purgatory down there in the battlefield. He grabbed and clenched the harness tightly as he watched another pod in front of him take fire and get engulfed in flames of destruction. He lowered the volume of his comms and exhaled trying to focus and smell his battlerifle's carbon fibre plated body.

The announcement in the comms made him flinch as he heard the Squad Sergeant's voice. And then the countdown came. Perhaps the purgatory awaits . . . . .

As the pod crashed into the ground, the sudden jolt gave a horrid backlash and disoriented Ducart for sometime but the hatch opened and spewed him out in the blazing battlefield of gunfire and destruction. Grabbing the assault rifle from the side he immediatedly jumped and sought out the closest rubble and crouched behind it. He adjusted the comms and called out, "This is Ducart reporting, anyone out there made it alive or need help? I have reached the warzone."

ooc: Sought moderate cover and am crouching behind it, I don't know if that gives any bonus though.

Li Min had talked big on the trip out, and she'd been one of the first into the drop pods. She'd had a few moments of fear, as the Covenant AA opened up, but she wasn't afraid of dying. Or just dying. More like dying without even getting into the fight.

So when the explosives bolts detached the drop pod's hatch, Li Min didn't seek cover, instead she brought the M6 Grindell up onto her shoulder and scanned the battlefield for a group of hinge-heads to send on the next step on their "Great Journey".

"Ducart, this is Zhang. Where are you?  I got a big hunk of laser for any Covie bastards that are bothering you."

I rolled a 3 and 1 on my Notice for a group of Covenant to kill and for the rest of my comrades.  Sigh. An auspicious start to the campaign.

Well, atleast somebody made it alive thought Ducart when he heard Zhang's voice. He turned on the HUD and searched for her location.

He had to find her and he spoke again in the comms, "Zhang, you are alright? Do you know anybody else who has landed? Wait, are you carrying Grendel? That is great, stay where you are, am coming to you. Hold your position, we need that laser. If we are to secure this dropzone, we have to take out the AAs."

Ooc:12:49, Today: Mark Ducart rolled 5 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5.  Notice with Wild die.

12:48, Today: Mark Ducart rolled 1 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1.  Notice check for teammates & enemies.

Mission One: The First Drop
Stacey...affectionately called Warthog since basic...didn't bother to brag but she did slide a piece of gum into her mouth. She had been right behind Li Min as she entered a drop pop letting it seal her inside. Fear touched at her insides a bit but was pushed away by anger which always crept in on her in these situations. Every drop of course had been simulated as most others things had been for her during basic.

This time though she would be meeting the real enemy and that made her nervous...and angry. She closed her eyes, chewed on the gum to equalize the pressure and focused on the words of her drill instructor. Even well aware of what was going on around her, rocking of her own pod as one blew up near her own...then another...she repeated the words in her head. Though I walk through the valley of the shadows, I shall fear no evil. As I am the meanest mother-fucker in the valley and I carry a big stick. Hint of a smile even as the pod slammed into the ground, harness buffering her from the jolt of the sudden stop.

Pod door flew off as the releases gave and she didn't get expelled as much as hopped out onto the ground. Her radio crackled to life with first Ducart and then Li Min calling out to which she answered. "Warthog is on the ground and ready to bust heads. Sit-rep and rally point?" Her M7S came up as she started to move forward finding cover as she searched for enemies or her comrades in arms.

Besides the submachine gun, she was carrying an M6C on her right thigh, a M45 tactical shotgun on her back and a pair of M7 combat knives...one on her left thigh and one from her armor on the left side.

The voice of Stacey in the comm was also very reassuring for Ducart. More survivors will bolster their squad before they can really take the striking strategy. He turned his comms again, "Warthog, good to hear that you have landed safely. Am trying to locate Zhang and you should too. I think her location will be a good rally point. She has the Grindell. Once we secure her, we can provide covering fire and she can take out the covenant AA turrets."

As Ducart came back to her she was already nodding her head though the occasional click of gum could be heard. It was a habit of hers though not a really nasty habit like some had in the military. She could still remember a Lt. that had a chew problem and always had spit stains on his fatigues. It was rather disgusting.

"Will rally on Li Min then as soon as I got her location. And you guys have the longer range firepower over me." Staying crouched at her own position, she had dropped her own HUD into place over her visor. She was already taking stock of the ammo that she had on her so that she would not run out.
