Mission 1: GS-974, Ooli, Tomen.
The city is about 20 minutes away by landspeeder and when you finally arrive you find it to be a very typical prefabricated type of town. The same generic houses everywhere occasionally given a little flavor by it's inhabitants. There's a great number of Verpine about in the streets, moving quietly and doing their own thing. A fair number of humans, and a lot of other races spread around. Many of them stare uncertainly at the heavily armored speeder coming into town.

There are signs all throughout the city indicating that no speeder or speederbike is allowed to go fast than 20 mph, but you've seen several speederbikes race past at 5 times that speed, some of them being flown by teenagers.

You finally find a decent parking lot to put down your speeder and step out into the warm air again. The stormtrooper draws a lot of eyes, and one Balosar suddenly stops selling whatever he was selling a rodian. And tells the rodian to get away, he'd never do such a thing.

There seems to be a large tavern nearby which caters to non-verpine. There's also a small spaceport, a police office, a mall, and what passes for a building of government here. Though the doors are wide open and it seems to be in need of some good cleaning.

"Well, since we're the "Official" representatives of the government here, we should probably have a word with the government and police." Tomen says cheerfully.

"Well thought.  Police first, then the government." Ooli nods and begins heading toward the police station.  She has the strangest feeling that three armed sentients marching into the government building without stopping by the police station first might draw some attention.  She was sure that her licenses were good for the blaster pistol and stun baton she carried, but nervous guards sometimes shot before asking questions.

Once inside the police department, she makes herself known by rank and affiliation to the Imperial Navy, and inquires about any known pirate problem.

As you enter the police station you find a codru-ji male sitting behind a desk, leaning backwards in his chair and snoozing. Once he realizes someone is entering though, he quickly sits up straight, and his four arms all start looking busy, except for the one rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"How can I.. hey.."

He frowns at the stormtrooper and the imperial uniform.

"Eh.. What do you want? This eh.. You're kinda far from home aren't you?"

"We are," Ooli speaks softly, lacking the bite that a lot of 'bulldog' officers would bring to bear against unwary civilians or civil servants who are trying to obstruct them.

"However, we're here to inquire about a potentially missing person, and we also wished to ask about any pirate problems that the local area may be experiencing." She pauses, weighing how much information to provide. "I can make no formal promises about any assistance we may or may not provide, but there was someone we were contacting on this planet who may have been accosted by criminal elements."

Aware that his presence was unsettling to civilians and often even military personnel GS-974 made sure his occupation of the police station was noted. He did not casually enter but marched in, his armoured boots thudding until he came to attention and slammed his heels down. He did not have to turn his head to look around, the helmet's advanced sensors array did that, so stood still and resolute as Ooli began her interrogation.

Walking in behind the others Tomen observed silently from the rear.

"I should probably get the sarge.. Wait here.."

He get's up quickly and heads off deeper into the station, returning a few minutes later with a human male in his late fifties who's gotten rather fat as well as bald. He looks you over and frowns, apparently deciding the young man wasn't overstating things. He looks at you uncomfortably for a bit, then says.

"Look, we haven't got no empire here, or republic, or alliance, whatever you call yourselves now. We just look out for ourselves. Those pirates kept attacking, they damaged one of our carrack's, we simply couldn't take it anymore. Then this man came to us, said if we paid him in goods every month, he'd make sure the pirate attacks stopped. So we paid him, and there have been no new attacks. It's not how I wanted this to go down, but what were we supposed to do. We did the best we could"

Despite his nervousness he gives you a defiant stare as if daring you to say otherwise.

Ooli nods after thinking things over.  She understood being behind the eight ball, but she never had to be responsible for the safety of a town or city's worth of people like these police have been.  "Paying the toll's the easy way out, but it beats getting a bunch of people killed."

"We would like to know as much about the man who put this offer as we can." She does her best to keep her tone firm, but gentle.  "We do not know if he is the cause of our situation, but the fact that he is essentially demanding a tax from your government makes him sound like 'bad guy' material to me.  And if he and/or the pirates he has some affiliation with turn out to have anything to do with our missing person, we would have to take steps to resolve the situation."

Whether the resolution would be a payment for their hostage or a lot of people getting blasted, of course, remained to be seen.

There was no discipline among these people. GS-974 considered how simply he could eliminate the two threats in uniforms they faced. It gave the stormtrooper plenty of confidence. He let the Lieutenant deal with it and would shoot when commanded.

The sergeant looks at you for a moment, trying to decide whether or not to trust you. Finally he says slowly:

"Well he's a human male, average build, average height, brown hair. Eh, I think green eyes. But don't pin me down on that. He always comes here a few days before the pick up, and hangs out at this bar down town. He might be there now, it's only a few days until the next payment. I can give you the address if you like. He goes by the name of Darkstar, obviously some kind of codename.."

If one of you offers him a datapad or a piece of paper he'll write down the address of a bar called 'The happy Krayt'
