Mission 1: Rejoined
You join up again at the small prefabricated house owned by the Jedi Alaina. The group in the command speeder having delivered the hutt to the shuttle and the other group arriving with an unconscious Duros along as cargo. Though how long he will remain unconscious is another matter entirely.

The astromech is still located inside the B-wing and occasionally sends out questioning bleeps, clearly wondering what's going on and what all the activity is about.

Oola looks rather hurt from the fight they had, and even the stormtrooper has some marks on his armor.

Xirek looked over at the two Imperials and Tomen and gave a nod of greeting, after unstrapping the Duros and setting him on the bed in the house. "Welcome back. It looks like you two had a rough time. Unfortunately, my studies of the Force did little for the healing arts or I would see to your injuries. So what happened?"

"Little bit of an ambush.  The Hutt's in custody, but...well, that's neither here nor there." Ooli straightens up, trying to smile as she looked over what surely was going to be a bureaucratic nightmare. "No casualties?  If no one's been killed, we can probably sort this misunderstanding out.  The good thing about kidnapping is that you can return whoever you've stolen.  The bad news is...I suspect you would have done that already if there weren't going to be complications."

He frowned over at Kalis, "Yes, it is much more complicated than that. We are trying to get information out of Darkstar, while playing the role of mercenaries for hire. He asked us to make someone 'disappear' that was bothering him. Seeing that this man is in possible danger.." he pointed to the bedroom where the Duros was laying.. "we decided that we would nicely make him disappear without doing any real harm. It is possible we were being watched so allowing them to see that he was shot and taken away may lend credence to our ploy. At least it will keep this man safe if Darkstar really wants him dead.

We could use some back up when we go back to meet Darkstar, having accomplished our goal we will see if we can get any information about the pirates from him or any clues as to Alaina's disappearance. We could just call in the calvary and storm the place and capture the guy, but I suspect he has eyes and ears everywhere and would slip away before we could mobilize the local law enforcement. I believe this is our best approach, unless you or anyone else have other suggestions or avenues to gain the information we need. I have lived a mostly sheltered life, at least from the Underworld elements so I'm open to better ideas. I don't suppose interrogations of the Hutt you met has shown any links to the pirates?"

Kalis was relieved to be safely back at the house, and not in a dingy Xarxalax jail cell trying to explain things to a Verpine police officer. They'd dodged a blaster bolt there, he thought. He remained quiet and let Xirek explain events to Ooli; he somehow even made it make sense.

'What do we need from Darkstar anyway? What did the police ask for?' he asked to clarify their mission here.

As was expected GS-974 let Lieutenant Geduca recount their activities. The stormtrooper's armour was not as immaculate as when they began their mission but the armour was functional as well as intimidating. GS-974 showed no signs of disability or injury, he kept himself upright and aware. He would be ready when they needed fire support.

Ooli tried not to look annoyed at the idea that she had forgotten something. "I didn't inquire much on those points.  I figured I was just passing a favor along for future good will with the department...but we were attacked by two well armored people who escaped in a small ship.  They...might have had connections, but there's no way to know unless they come back to get their payback."

Xirek nodded his understanding. "Understandable. But given pirates and a gangster on the same planet. I figure they are either working together or clashing. It doesn't seem like a big clash going on though, so if I were to engage in gambling, I would put credits on them being connected in some way."

The Arkanian shrugged as he thought about it more. "Anyway, I doubt Hutts that live such a long time would give up information easily. I is unlikely we could get anything out of him, that he didn't want to give. At least if the stories I've heard are actually true. Although who knows how much captivity would make a Hutt break. They love their comfort and opulence, so taking that away could loosen their tongues in exchange for information given enough time and less hope of rescue. It certainly can be another avenue to pursue, assuming he doesn't find another way to have his mercenaries free him. Is he in a more secure place now?"

"He's on the way to our ship, if not already there, so we might be able to benefit from his knowledge given time, whether we get it out of him or our soldiers do." Ooli shrugged.  "That's about as secure as you get."

Tomen listens with interest to the briefings, but adds nothing new. He does look over the Duros to see if there is any emotions he can detect. "What about you?" He says rhetorically to the unconscious Duros. "What did you do to so anger Darkstar?"

Mission 1: Rejoined
So, no plan or official request whatsoever, only a spontaneous kidnapping and attempted infiltration of a local criminal network. This was definitely not how he'd expected his day to turn out. Kalis released a sigh like a bull, then meditated upon the placidity and calm acceptance of the Bantha. What was done was done, what mattered now was how they moved on and salvaged this. 'Let's tell the police what happened before we're wanted for kidnapping and find out how they want us to proceed. They might want us to just bring Darkstar in, or maybe to use this to explore his network.'

The Arkanian raised his hands up waving off the suggestion of contacting the police. "I do not think that is a good idea Kalis. These pirates likely have friends in high places here, since they have basically taken over. I have no doubt they've placed moles in the police stations, especially near where Darkstar is hanging out. If we tell them, we are back to square one with no plan or real leads to get more information. We charge in there in with just us now and we will have no idea what we are going to run into beyond the room full of mercs. We are on their home turf, and have no clue what resources they could bring to bear. That's incredibly risky, in my opinion."

He gestured over to Ooli and the stormtrooper. "Besides, we have an Imperial officer with us and this planet is under Imperial rule, is it not? If so we can conduct any kind of operation that we want without having to clear it with them, especially if we suspect the local law enforcement has been compromised. Of course, I'm speculating here based on some classes at the Jedi academy on regional laws and common sense. I imagine, sometimes, the two don't meet eye to eye. Lieutenant, is that not correct?"

"I don't know.  I talked to at least one person who seemed on the up and up, but he very well could have arranged the ambush.  They were in position to hear us discuss which way we were going, but...then again, it's not like a Stormtrooper, a uniformed military officer, and a Hutt are hard to track without an inside informant." The Lieutenant shrugged.  "My read of the police that we dealt with was that they were being straight forward.  They gave us the intelligence on Darkstar to begin with, and they could have stonewalled us when we started inquiring."

He considered the information and shook his head. "Well, someone tipped them off at that station. There wasn't a lot of time for anyone to plan after you walked out the door and headed to the spaceport, unless they suspected the Hutt was going to be moved that day. Also, I read this Darkstar's thoughts, and he was extremely confident, even knowing he is a wanted man by the authorities where he was. That is what gives me pause about his connections or his available resources or possibly both."

"I would think another police station would be closer to Darkstar's hangout, other than the one you were at. But, still even if they were on the up and up I would like to try this angle. Let me and Yesdona try and see what information we can get, and there will be less bloodshed with that route. If it goes south, we just call you in and whatever forces you can acquire and try and capture him. We still need the Duros not to contact anyone that he is still around or it'll blow that plan. I will leave it up to you, Lieutenant to decide how we proceed. It's your call, I have no authority here."

"Ma'am the police gave no indication that the Hutt prisoner and the pirate Darkstar were connected in any way. We should not assume they are" the stormtrooper counselled the Lieutenant "I suspect Darkstar is only a middleman too, the negotiator between the pirates and authorities. The real pirates are in orbit".

Kalis frowned. 'I don't think it is under Imperial rule or at least, it isn't yet...' Which spoke for itself really.

'Don't forget our original mission to find the Jedi, Alaina. I copied her reports. Her disappearance is definitely connected to the pirates. A Rodian slicer was involved in covering it up. If we find him, we have a link.' he reminded.

"Too right, GS-974, and the planet's status with relation to Imperial law is to our benefit.  We'd be responsible for cleaning up after the pirates, rather than juts resolving our goal.  This Rodian.  Where should be begin to search, and do we know of any leverage we can use against him?"
