"As soon as your faith stops disrespecting me and people like me," Laurene replied. She didn't really want to to have this argument, but was not going to apologize on this point. "But I do apologize for making you upset. I'm sorry." It was sincere enough, but her mind was still clouded and confused by the situation and Crystal's particular choice of words in describing and separating herself from Transpower.

In reply to Laurene Watson (msg # 26):

"Your apology is accepted, in the spirit it is given and in the name of mercy and forgiveness."

After a momentary pause Crystal asked, "What are you that you think my faith disrepsects you? Aren't you human?"

"I'm a woman," Laurene said flatly. "And bi. So yeah, your faith--and not just yours--tends to treat me as someone--some thing--less than human. Someone who can't be trusted to make my own decisions about my body or my life."

In reply to Laurene Watson (msg # 28):

"My faith calls me to respect and attempt to love all people as my brothers and sisters. My faith calls me to love life. I am a Catholic woman yes, but most Catholics I know believe in love and bringing all kinds of people together." Crystal replies with conviction.

"As for Transpower, I know who she is and we are close. Your power says that she and I share a mind and that I cannot truly deny. But we are different in many ways. If you like her, tell her so when you see her again."

Laurene shook her head at Crystal's defense. It was weak sauce that ignored the realities of the discrimination--and far worse crimes--perpetuated by the Church. But all that was set aside with her last cryptic comments. "You're close? How close, exactly?"

"That close, eh?" Laurene commented with a raised eyebrow. "I was thinking that I'm pretty close to my brother, but it would take him a couple of hours to get here from Houston. So, like, if I wanted to see her now, could you call her? Or is that rude of me to ask if no one is in trouble?"

"You most certainly understand that I would not even try to take advantage of Transpower's heroic nature if she were not truly needed. To do so would show little respect for a luchadora."

"I see. I figured as much," Laurene sighed. This morning had not gone as planned at all; she wasn't sure what Crystal's deal was, but there was definitely something odd about the way she was talking about Transpower. "I must say, though, the name is a little confusing. Isn't she worried about the connotation the name might have with the LGBTQA community? Imagine if her name was, say, Blackpower."

Crystal thought, "Do all these LGBT-whatever people have on their mind is sex? Or maybe its just that Laurene is too horny to think clearly"

She sighed and shook her head. "I don't think Transpower even considers this LGT-whatever community. I think she has chosen her name for other reasons. Luchadors and Luchadoras have all kinds of names, from El Santos and Blue Demon, to Sexy Star and Tsunami."

"Hey, don't be dismissive of the 'whatever' community. Remember the disrespect I mentioned earlier? The Q is for questioning--those people who are still trying to figure out their sexuality and don't need society forcing them into boxes that don't fit them. And A is asexual, those who don't fit into any of previous boxes. And there are others as well and debates about who should or shouldn't be included in the list--it can get cliquish and ugly, but that's what happens in a community of communities." Laurene shrugged. "Just know that everyone, and I mean everyone, exists within a spectrum of male, female, gay, lesbian, and many others. The world is not black-and-white, binary this-or-that, but world of grays, colors, and paisley."

In reply to Laurene Watson (msg # 36):

"I'm not trying to dismiss anyone. Its just that I don't think about sex much 'cause its too much trouble, it should be private, and there's so much more in life to think about. By the way, lets not tell my parents that you are Bi-whatever, they are more traditional and might worry about you and me being in the same room."

Crystal paused to look at her smart phone before returning her attention back to her room mate, "You know, we should think about getting to class soon."

"It's not about sex. It's about love and identity," Laurene said. "When you fit within the default majority, its easy to be disrespectful without realizing it. Such as, for example, you just implied that all LGBT people care about is sex. That every lesbian wants to convert you to their wicked ways. That's how your mother probably sees it."

In reply to Laurene Watson (msg # 38):

"I see that I offended you and for that I am sorry." Crystal said apologetically.  "Look, all I'm trying to say is that such issues are not exactly important to me unless someone makes them important. I assume that the gender you present yourself as is the right one. If you dress in women's clothing, seem to be a woman, and/or call yourself a woman, I will treat you like you have a cylinder not a piston. Beyond that, how you behave as a person is much more important to me than who you date."

"I'll make sure to text you the homework and keep good notes from class, alright? By the way its your turn to make lunch."

Laurene put up her palms and chuckled. "Enough with the mechanical analogies, grease monkey. I'm not worried about my gender identity or presentation, but a hero with the name of Transpower should probably be up to date on trans issues. You should pass along that piece of advice." She smiled and barely managed to not roll her eyes.

With a grin and feigned anger Crystal replied, "Hey! I'm not a grease monkey! I'm a certified automotive technician, specially since I've been trained to use computer diagnostic equipment."

"Oh and no Tex-Mex or PB&J for lunch either, you are going to at least cook some kind of meat this time."

"Why bother cooking for lunch? Dinner, I'd understand, but lunch is a sandwich and chips, or soup and salad. Why can't we just nosh at the cafe?" Cooking was not Laurene's thing, but that never stopped Crystal from trying. "I need to go to the market. You want anything specific?"

Crystal sighed while strapping on her waist pack and grabbing her duffle bag. "I guess that will have to do then. Just remember that I can quit cooking for you at any time. Its only my humble generosity that lets you benefit from when I or my family cooks. But tomorrow you get to either cook us a meal or buy me nice from off campus for lunch or dinner."

"God only knows what this girl-child ate before she became my roommate. I bet nothing but junk and fast food. Yuck!" Crystal mentally recoiled from the thought of that kind of diet.

"Look, it's great that you want to eat home-cooked meals all the time, but don't force me into it." Laurene stopped before saying what she was thinking. Instead, she took a breath. "It was great that you made breakfast, and it was really good, but I got along just fine doin' my own thing. I'm not a good cook and I don't want to spend the time to be one. If you want to cook and you want me to pitch in for grocery money or help out with the shopping, then I'm happy to. But if you want me to cook, then you're eatin' what I'm fixin' as my momma used to say."

"Whoa, Whoa, Chica!" said Crystal while holding her hands up in the classic surrender position. "Its not that I want to eat home-cooked all the time. I like to eat out too. I'm jus' tryin' to grow your options, to encourage you to try new things."

Apologetically she continued, "You know I like to cook good food to feed peoples body and soul. Cooking seems so eay to me. So maybe I'm just a little too enthusiastic in tryin' to get you to be better. Of course I'll eat what you cook when you're cooking. Okay?"
