Fuzzy:  Rikka's Smithy

Domitius returned to the smithy, his last fight had been difficult,  the lack of a magical weapon had limited him to being a target.  "Ah Rikka, always a pleasure to see you.  i have some work for you that if possible I will need done sooner than later.  A dueling sword of Mithril, with minor enchamtments.  Also this breastplate I acquired last time I was here could you enchant that as well?"

Before heading out again, Adoven stops at the smithy. He asks "Rivka, can Effortless Lace be applied to a Masterwork weapon, and then enchanted afterwards? Also, have you access to lighter metals for constructing lightweight-yet-durable armors such as a Breastplate?"

Fuzzy:  Rikka's Smithy

Rikka deals with Domitius's requests first.  "I was half expecting such a request,  fron Restov if not from Midmarch itself." Rikka syas  Going to a locked cabinet and withdrawing a finely chased mithral duelling sword.  She twirls it a couple of times, enjoying the balance, before passing it to Domitious.  The patterning along the grips and upper blade is simple, but well executed, while the blade itself is all business.

"It is not enchanted yet, but I can do that at the same time as I enchant the armour."

She beckons an assistant forwards,  "If Lord Solanus is happy, please take both items through to Astrane for preparation."

Turning to Adoven, Rikka considers his question for a moment.  "Effortless Lace.  That is the effect that allows you to use a weapon  more dextrously.  Let's see, it works on one-handed weapons, with a handle -  but not on shields or weapons that are fitted to the bearer.  The lace itself is separate from the weapon, if it is ever removed thenboth the lace and the weapon lose their enchantment.  However, I see no reason that the lace can't be applied to a masterwork of enchanted weapons.

As for lighter materials, what did you have in mind?"

OOC - Enchanted Lace will not work with bludgeoning weapons, Shields or thins like a manople or scizore that are attached to the body.

Domitius took the blade reverently holding it to the light to better see the patterns he gave himself some room then performed a series of attack and defense routines before pausing.  He than began a dazzling display of the Aldori style before stopping and panting heavily at his exertions.  "Simply magnificent, truly a work of art Rikka.  I would be humbled to own such a blade, does she have a name?" he said handing the sword back.

Adoven looks at Domitius "oh, I'm to have competition for that title? Well enough. Rikka, I was thinking of using the Lace on a second rapier. As for the lighter material, I was considering a Mithril breastplate, if you have access to enough of the material."

OOC: Certainly. With Effortless Lace, the Rapier is considered a Light weapon and can be used in the off-hand for Two weapon Fighting. Moreover, Weapon Focus/Rapier would work with both weapons, as well as Finesse Training Dex-to-damage with both rapiers.

Adoven smiles, "Not all the benefits. I daresay there are few who wield two rapiers into combat."

"Indeed there are few who can wield two rapiers in combat." Rikka agrees, "And I do have enough mitral to make a breastplate.  In fact Astrane has been working on a mithral breastplate recently. I guessed that would be another item that someone might want.  Either that or a chain shirt.  So yes a Mithral breastplate is available.  The Effortless lace will take a bit longer, as I will need to research and collect the various  components."

OOC:  That is the last of the current Mithral supply.

Adoven seems lost in thought for a minute, then raises his head. "In truth, Rikka, I have a more immediate need for a Masterwork rapier with Effortless Lace than I do a mithril breastplate. While I have the gold at hand for the weapon, it will take close to a year" (two Kingdom turns) "to build and sell enough properties to buy the breastplate. As it is, most of my liquid assets are tied up in acquiring property in Jovvox, Mivon, and Zelona's keep. I fear I shall need to wait until you and I both have adequate resources to commission that particular job."

Re: Fuzzy:  Rikka's Smithy

And a new prospective customer arrived around that time --

"Hello -- I hope I'm not interrupting anything.  This fine gentleman," she nodded toward Domitius, "has told me more than once of the amazing work that comes out of this smithy.  It was past time to come see for myself.  On the topic of breastplates, that's exactly my need.  The agile sort.  Now, I have this,"

Alisa stripped away the sack she'd brought in, to reveal the breastplate that had been recovered during their last bit of work.

"It would need to be refitted, with new straps, and then enchanted.  But, I overheard you speaking about the mithral --  which I hear is so much easier to move in.  I think a little out of my price range, though?"

I believe it would be less expensive to give the existing armor a +1, rather than get a new mithral one?  Which is like over 4000 gp?

And happy to wait my turn till until other transactions finish.

Rikka inspects the breastplate that Alisa holds up  "That isn't an agile breastplate ...  Nor was the mithral breastplate I showed Adoven."  She cocks her head sideways for a moment as she looks at Alisa, then gestures to an assistant.  "How a Mithral Shirt?  I have one about your size.  That comes in at just over 1000gp.  Another 500 for a simple enchantment (+1) ...  or a couple of thousand for  better protection (+2)   ..."

A couple of momnets later the assistant reappears holding a very fine chain shirt.  It shines brightly and shimmers,  almost like gossamer, in his hands.

Sold!

Alisa required no more convincing.   Though it shouldn't be any reason, it was impossible not to consider how much more beautiful it was than a breastplate.

"Yes, that's it!  I'll take it.  And please, add to it the light enchantment."

Re: Fuzzy:  Rikka's Smithy

"You want to glow like a candle, every time you put in on?  That would certainly make you the light i]of his life ...." she says  indicating Dom with her eyes.

OOC:  There isn't a designated 'Light' enchantment for armour -  the closes is this one from Weapons

quote:
Light Generation: Fully 30% of magic weapons shed light equivalent to a light spell. These glowing weapons are quite obviously magical. Such a weapon can’t be concealed when drawn, nor can its light be shut off. Some of the specific weapons detailed below always or never glow, as defined in their descriptions.

The closest is a special ability called 'Radiant' - but that is a bit more powerful and costs 7500gp.

A Mithral Shirt +1 costs 1600gp using Rikka's 'one time offer' (or 2100gp without)

A Mithral Shirt +2 costs 3100gp using Rikka's 'one time offer' (or 5100gp without)

Re: Fuzzy:  Rikka's Smithy

Adoven's right --  thanks for clarifying while I was out.  ;)

By "light" I was referring to the +1 (simple enchantment, as you put it) as opposed to the +2.    I absolutely do not want glowing armor!   One of my domain abilities is a sort of limited invisibility in darkness...it would kinda screw that up.

I don't think Solanus would be very happy with that amidst their ranks, either..  I can just hear Domitius' grandfather-  "Dom, you need to talk to that woman about that armor." ;)

Re: Fuzzy:  Rikka's Smithy

"Excellent." Rikka responds, I will prepare that for you immediately.

OOC:

I am glad we sorted that out.  Part of the problem was that weapons can be enchanted to glow permanently  (as per the light spell)  and 'radiant' does something similar for armour (but is more controllable and has a twist)

Fortification (Light) is another type armour, that (basically) reduces the chance of critical hits.  Special armours can be quite complex, if you aren't familiar with them (and there is no reason why you should be)

However, and most importantly, you may add a Mithral Shirt +1 to your inventory (so long as you adjust your cash balance :p )

Re: Fuzzy:  Rikka's Smithy

Cass made his way through Port Henry until he arrived at Rikka’s Smithy. As he entered the door, he found the famous magic smith shuffling through some of her inventory. Cass waited until she was finished with her present task before speaking.

“I meant to come by sooner, but the last campaign took longer than any of suspected. Except maybe Henry. Mind like a steel trap, that one.” Cass offered up a bottle of wine before continuing. “I have this short bow that already has a bit of magic to improve my aim. I was hoping that while I am in town that you could also enchant it with the ability to fire flaming arrows. That may be the only upgrade it can handle, but if you could also improve that aim enchantment, I am prepared to part ways with these.”

So saying, Cass indicated the Bracers of Falcon’s Aim that had come into his possession. “They’re a bit used, but I could add some coin to the bargain to even things out. Waddaya think?”

Re: Fuzzy:  Rikka's Smithy

Bishop Andalon came straight from the Midmarch Religious Council meeting with a determined look in his eye. He sought out Rikka herself when he entered her smithy.

"Rikka, you have been most helpful in the past when we have come seeking enchanted arms and armor. This time we have need of something far greater than anyone has probably ever asked you for before. We need to obtain a Holy weapon to be able to destroy an even greater evil. I have money enough to pay for this enchanted morningstar of mine to be made Holy, if there is anyone capable of adding that enchantment to my weapon.

"I have researched it as far as I am able. I understand that it must be created by someone devoted to Good, a caster of the 7th level. I can provide the spell of Holy Smite that is required for this enchantment; I just hope that my own devotion to Law rather than to Good would not prevent me from being directly involved in the process.

"Is this something you would be able to do yourself, or do you know of anyone else who could? Hopefully, I will not need to travel back to New Stetven to have this done."
Andalon asked Rikka.

Rikka pauses for a moment as she considers Andalon's question. "While it isn't something I have done previously, I believe that I should be able to craft a weapon with those qualities. Alyhough, as yuou rightly suggest, I will need someone to cast the Holy Smite spell, at the appropriate time.  However, I will need to do a bit more research into the matter as I consider the detail of the process.

Is this something to do with this terrible eye that I have been hearing about?"

Andalon smiles gratefully at the first part of Rikka's reply but his smile fades as she mentions the eye.

"Yes, I understand it is called an Eye of Abadon. The sooner it can be destroyed, the better, but a Holy weapon is required for that purpose. I have never imagined owning such a glorious weapon but now it does feel right, somehow."
