Fuzzy: Bank of Abadar

Marik steps into the bank, casually glancing around to see if his adventuring companion Andalon is anywhere to be seen. Stepping up to the teller, he nods and offers a friendly smile, "Hello, I would like to inquire about a loan for some development I'm considering near New Dawn."

There is no sign of Andalon in the bank today but the teller that Marik spoke to asks Marik to take a seat while he fetches the bank manager.

"Good afternoon, Sir. I understand you have asked about a loan for some sort of development up at New Dawn. We may be able to help you with that. Would you mind telling me what you have in mind?"

Marik nods, "Yes of course. I'm looking to build a ranch just a bit outside of my growing town of New Dawn to help train the horses, hunting dogs, and the like for the scouts and cavalry in the area. I have the majority of the funding to do so, but require a small loan (1BP) to complete the project."

The bank manager nods thoughtfully before smiling and replying.

"Certainly, Sir. We know that you already have more than sufficient assets to cover the loan, so we can certainly provide the loan you require. I trust that the standard terms of our loans are acceptable to you. The interest on the loan is half of the amount borrowed, with three repayments equal to half of the amount borrowed, paid over the next three years. If you agree with that arrangement I will have the papers drawn up straight away."

With the bank manager busy with another customer already the teller asks Adoven to take a seat and wait while a runner fetches Andalon, the Banker, from the cathedral of Abadar. Adoven is offered something to drink while he waits.

Andalon arrives about ten minutes later and invites Adoven to come through to one of the back rooms where they can speak more privately.

Adoven opens his satchel and turns over letters of credit. He says "these pay for the balance of my loan. I would normally say that concludes our business, but I have a further proposal for you." Adoven pulls artist's drawings and tables of numbers. "I am in the midst of upgrading the military College to a Military Academy. It's very expensive, and will. be delayed until I can scrape up more funds for it. This potential Civil War frightened a lot of us. I wish Tusk better prepared to ward off Adventurism from the South. Have you enough Capital on-hand to help me finish the project quickly?"

OOC: It will take 1.5 more bp to finish the Academy this Turn.

Andalon had a look through Adoven's documents before replying.

"We can certainly provide a loan of 1BP but I would have to check the ledger and see whether any other borrowers are waiting in the wings. We do try to distribute the available funds to as many people as we can," he explained.

OOC: I thought the balance was 0.5 bp, which I can pay now. Is my amount Owed 1.5 bp right now?

"If it is available, I would need an added 1.0 bp. I know I still owe on a previous Loan, but my prospects are excellent and we are an expanding business. We'll be able to make our payments on time, easily."

OOC: Adoven - see msg #25 in this thread. 1.0BP borrowed last turn, 0.5BP to be repaid this turn, 0.5BP next turn and another 0.5BP the following turn.

"We have just made arrangements to loan 1BP to Laird Marik. With your 0.5BP repayment we will have a total of 1.8BP on hand. I regret that, as a matter of principle, the Bank of Abadar must insist on repayments as they fall due. If no one else applies for a loan the Bank would then be able to loan you the full 1.5BP that you require for your Military Academy. However, if someone else applies for a 0.5BP loan the Bank would only be able to lend you 1BP (or technically up to 1.3BP) and you may need to find an alternative source for the remaining portion," Andalon explained to Adoven.

Adoven nods. "I fully understand. It was more an afterthought while I was walking over here that another loan could speed up my construction schedule. I won't have any problem repaying the loan and with interest as agreed. "

Some time later Andalon and Adoven meet up again for an update.

"Well, it looks like there are not any other applicants for loans at the moment, so I think we can confirm that 1.5BP loan for your Military Academy now," Andalon reported with a smile.

"So, what would the repayments be? You are making your first 0.5BP repayment on your existing 1BP loan now, so you have two more 0.5BP repayments to make on that first loan.

"The 1.5BP loan would normally require repayments totaling 2.25BP over three instalments. However, if you were to make the first repayment of that loan a full 1BP payment, followed by two more 0.5BP repayments, we would be willing to reduce the total repayments to 2BP for that 1.5BP loan as it would build up our reserves again more swiftly that way and we can lend it out again sooner that way. Are you happy with that suggestion?

"Overall, that would mean your repayments would be 0.5BP now, 1.5BP next turn, 1BP the following turn and 0.5BP the turn after that. Total repayments of 3.5BP on loans totaling 2.5BP."

It was mid-morning-ish as Rana approached the bank almost warily.  She was dressed much as she had been the day before in high-waisted, wide legged trousers of a dark grey paired with a light blue, long-sleeved blouse, boots, her cloak and carrying her backpack. After speaking with Marik the previous evening, she thought that, perhaps, having her all her coins close at hand might not actually be the best option and, on Marik's recommendation she decided to see what this bank business was all about.  She wasn't certain of protocol when she entered, so she glanced around looking to try and determine who might be the person to whom she needed to speak.

In reply to Rana Nervetti (msg # 54):

A bank teller stepped forward as soon as it became apparent that the young lady appeared a little unsure of who to speak to.

"Good morning, madam. Welcome to the Bank of Abadar. How may we assist you today?" he asked politely.

Rana smiled at the teller who approached her.  "I've not been in a bank before, so I'm not sure if you can help me; however, a friend suggested that this would be a safe place to deposit coins. I don't know if you have a minimum requirement or how it works with getting my coins back when I need it?
If you could explain how this work, it would be helpful."

The teller smiled back warmly at Rana.

"Certainly, madam. The arrangements are quite straightforward, really. We don't charge any fee at all when you deposit money or valuables into the bank. A fee is only charged when you withdraw your money or valuables - that means when you take them back out from the bank again. The fee charged is 5 percent of the amount you wish to withdraw, which means 5 parts out of every 100, or 1 part out of every 20 that you withdraw," he explained.

Rana nodded at the teller's explanation, then gave it a bit more thought, before she responded.  "You have certainly explained the process well, so thank you very much for that."  She smiled at him, but sighed lightly.  "The fee seems reasonable and I'm certain that I will be back, but for now, I don't think it would make sense for the small amount of coins I have.  I thank you again for your assistance.  It has been a pleasure to speak with you."   She nodded politely to the man, before leaving the bank, all the while trying to quietly calculate percentages under her breath.

Gaius once again shows up with gold to repay the loan taken by the Vallani holdings. "Good day. Mistress Vallani has sent me to settle her debt towards the bank of Abadar. I believe you will find all of the remaining payment here."

Paying back the rest of the debt for Safiya Vallani in total, 0.4 BPs. I know the terms were 0.2 BPs this round and the last 0.2 BPs next one, but since I have exactly 0.4 BPs left over this round, I might as well clear the whole thing now.

"She also asked me to inquire of potential future line of credit. Can a new loan be taken at this point?"

Now that the old loan is settled, would a new 1 BP loan be possible? 1 BP is a maximum available, right?

"Thank you for that repayment, Master Gaius. I expect that we will be able to offer another loan shortly, although we may have to send a few letters reminding our other customers that their repayments are due before we actually have funds available for loan. Yes, our policy is generally only a 1 BP loan unless we have more funds available than there are people wishing to borrow."

OOC: Gaius, you can assume that a 1 BP loan will be available. This weekend I will work out who owes what and remind them what needs to be repaid now.
