The Bank of Abadar in Tusk is now the administrator of a small pool of BP's on behalf of several local investors.  So loans of up to one BP may be available to anyone who needs some extra funds for a building or business development anywhere in Midmarch.

Conditions of the loan:
 - 50% interest (i.e. borrow 1BP, repay 1.5BP)
 - To be repaid over the next two three Kingdom turns (repay 1BP next turn and the final 0.5BP on the following turn i.e. repay 0.5BP per turn for three turns.)
 - Subject to the proposed development being approved by the relevant Council or authority in charge of the settlement where the development is proposed.

If anyone would like to enquire about a loan, this is the place to do it.

Similarly, if anyone has BP they don't have a use for and would like to add them to the funds available for loan, this is the place to do it.

If anyone happens to be just a little bit short of the funds needed for that new business enterprise, you know where to come for a loan.

A customer drops a handful of coins on the floor, and scrambles to pick them up, while the others look on in amusement.

The Banker helps the embarrassed customer to pick up the coins, then very kindly suggests they might be a lot safer if deposited in the bank.  :)

OOC: Loan terms revised in the post above.

Sounds useful. Safiya is either 0.5 BPs short from buying some more boats, or has 0.5 BPs just sitting useless this round. Preferably former - what would be the terms on a 0.5 BPs loan? I'd rather not split my BPs down to 2 decimal places, so would 0.8 BPs over three turns or even 0.7 over two be acceptable?

Hargrym approached the tellers and asked "I was wondering if I could organise a loan, we are looking at setting up a master jewellers in New Dawn as it would appear there is gold there."

In reply to Safiya Vallani (msg # 6):

The Banker considers Safiya's question thoughtfully for a long moment then nods.

"I think either of those options would be quite acceptable, Miss Vallani. I will need to double-check one or two administrative details but I don't think we would have a problem either way."

In reply to ~Hargrym Silverhammer (msg # 7):

The Banker considers Hargrym's question quite a bit longer before responding.

"That would be quite an investment in a small, fledgling settlement like New Dawn, Mr Silverhammer. You might find that the settlement itself may not yet be able to supply the other resources required to support something as lavish as a master jeweler's workshop straight away. In all honesty, the Bank's resources are somewhat limited as well. You might find it is necessary to start with a smaller jeweler's workshop this year, prove to everyone that it really is sustainable, then aim to expand to your master jeweler's workshop next year."

Safiya is thoughtful for a moment before answering a question with a question of her own. "What about a larger loan? One that would allow me to invest more heavily into my operations upstream?"

After running the numbers, a loan of 1.4 BPs would give me the most bang for my buck. At the proposed terms that would come to paying back 0.7 BPs for 3 rounds. Would that be acceptable?

The Banker smiled.

"We do have limited resources ourselves at present. We are currently only offering loans up to twice the size you initially asked about."

Basically two loan amounts are currently available (0.5BP or 1.0BP), with a few variations on repayment options:
  1. Borrow 1.0BP, repay 3x0.5BP over 3 turns
  2. Borrow 0.5BP, repay 3x0.25BP over 3 turns (or if you don't like 2 decimal places you can repay 0.7BP over 2 turns or 0.8BP over 3 turns).

Any development opportunities generally cost multiples of 1.0BP or 0.5BP, so you generally wouldn't be able to do anything with odd fractions of BPs anyway until they add up to half or full BPs. If someone really does need a fraction of a BP we can discuss at that time.

"Understandable."

Because of taxes, players running strongholds often have to deal with smaller fractions of BPs. In particular, Safiya has 0.6 BPs left for this round, so she would need 0.4 or 1.4 BPs more for something really useful.

Would a loan of 0.4 BPs over three rounds (0.2 each round) be acceptable? I did not propose that earlier as I did not wish to nickle-and-dime you with such small amounts. It would fit my projected income for next round though, as I will have exactly 0.2 BPs leftover then.

Hargrym scratches at his chin for a moment in thought."Aye I believe that would work also, might be better I suppose in the long run.  Once I have heard from New Dawn I'll confirm our plans.  Torag's grace upon ye" he rose, shook hands and headed out to await developments.

"We can certainly set up the necessary paperwork, Mr Domitius, but our resources are somewhat limited at present. I understand that Mr Silverhammer is one of your people and we are already  in talks regarding a loan for a business interest he represents in New Dawn. We would feel morally obliged to share our resources more widely than just one merchant company if there is interest from other people in Midmarch as well. We will need to wait a little while to see who else applies for a loan before we could commit to a further line of credit for Winter Sun," the Banker relied.

Domitius blinks a couple of times "I see, well I suppose it would be different if one of your Tusk fellows asked.  Where as if it's someone from the smaller settlements you turn your nose up.  Very well, if that is the way you run things here then perhaps Lord Kendrick should apply.  Good day to you sir. Domitius rose and left the bank.

"Greetings Adoven, it is a pleasure to see you again. Just a moment."

He watched Domitius leave then shrugged and turned back to Safiya.

"Certainly Safiya. I will have the papers drawn up straight away. Consider the loan yours whenever you are ready to put it to use."

Then back to Adoven.

"I've never known it so busy in here but I think we have an opportunity now for that discussion," he agreed.

Adoven smiled. So good to be dealing with a professional. "Not a problem, I understand completely. I don't know if you heard, but I bought a mule train and serai in Feyfalls. I need to build a Serai here as well to set up a route, but I fear I've overextended this season. I need to borrow (1 bp), and need to know your terms for repayment?"

In reply to Adoven (msg # 22):

"I think we can manage that. The usual terms of the loan would be three repayments over three years (Kingdon turns), each equal to half of what was borrowed, so the total repayment is one and a half times what was borrowed," Andalon explains.
