"If it pleases your lordships, House Yitis would like to build a Shipping Office in the Merchant District.  It will make it easier for us to manage trade between here and Mivon.  We are, of course, prepared to offer a contribution towards the city's costs ..."

OOC:  +1 Econ and they will offer 0.5bp towards social building costs.

For the sake of the city, Adoven is willing to get a loan from the bank (he is tapped out currently) to fund the serai he would have built anyways (Cross Shipping office).

Alternately, I've got a .5 beanie left over, and I believe Kiera does as well.   If the bank doesn't fly, or you need a better rate, I'm willing to loan if she (or someone else) is.

Or one of us could pitch it to the other to open up another 1 BP business (though it would be paid back the next Kingdom round).  I mean, Sisters of the Moon could always open a second location, or I could go with another tavern, or something.

That might be the way to go, so Adoven doesn't need to go into hock with the bank and can focus on the next go-round.

We have a deal...

"I understand that you know Alisa fairly well, Kiera. I'm sure she'll make certain you are repaid in full, if you wish to loan the additional resources. You do know where she lives," Sejana added in jest. "And being able to make and sell a certain amount of magical items, on top of services and components, should pretty much guarantee the return, I believe."

She'd listen to Sejana, nodding her head, and in the end, she'd smile- showing her a little teeth.

"I do, yeah- and well... yeah, she is going to be a part-sister of mine, someday.  Or whatever you call it, I don't know.  But I trust her, and of course I'll loan her what she needs."

Loaning Alisa my .5 BP, to be repaid next Kingdom round. :)

OOC: I thought we needed +2 Economy to get all three values within 1 pt of each other. In light of that, I am going forward with the Loan and the building of a Serai.

Re: Fuzzy:  Tusk Development 4715

Cass (from OOC2 thread):
New district name  - The Smelly District?

And has anyone else noticed that it is just under that posh district, Ivory Hill? Beware wind from the South!

Andalon (from OOC2 thread):
Oh, it's quite conveniently located, really. The nobs of Nob Hill need somewhere close by where their employees can live. :o)

Besides, we are building district walls for Ivory Hill. It's easier to ignore the smell if you are not forced to look at the source!

Some other potential candidates for the name of the new district, located on the southwest side of the city, beside the the lake (Tuskwater) and planned home for the less desirable, dirtier, smellier businesses and poorer accommodation:
  • Westside - literally on the western side of the city
  • Cheapside - the history of Cheapside in London has nothing to do with being cheap, but the name would work well for this district in Tusk City too
  • Westport - it is located to the west of Port Henry

Any other suggestions?

Do we need to think about leaving some spare space in Merchant District for businesses to expand? Abadar's regional market plans to expand to a great market next turn. Would other businesses want to expand in future as well?

Re: Fuzzy:  Tusk Development 4715

Cass stroked his beard, having come up with another wicked idea. “You we could call the new district, Out Side. Then we could temporarily zone The Mithral and the Dragons Den in the residential area of Ivory Hill until we can establish a new district between Ivory Hill and College next session.”

Cass waited to see if anyone caught on. “We could then zone The Mithral and Dragons Den into the district created next session. We could call that new district...the Inn Side.”

Re: Fuzzy:  Tusk Development 4715

Nice one, Cass. ;o)

I love the joke but the game mechanics won't allow us to do that. We have paid for an outer wall based on the number of districts it encompasses, so we can't just add another district inside that outer wall.

The church of Abadar would be happy to build the Regional Market in the new district. Naturally, as the first land use we get to choose the location, so it should be located in the northeast corner of that new district close to the west gate of the inner wall, which makes it conveniently located for access from Central District and Ivory Hill, and alongside the western road into the city. :o)

OOC: Ironically, that fits really well with the idea of Cheapside, too. A quick on-line search says:
Cheapside takes its name from 'chepe', a Saxon word for a market.
Cheapside, also referred to as West Cheap, was a street and market dating back to the late ninth century. It was one of two great markets ... early Cheapside's main function as "a market to sell the produce of St. Paul's rural estates." West Cheap, the larger of the two markets, was situated in the west of the medieval city.
Market buildings were constructed along the roadside from the late twelfth century, with low roofs that later formed viewing platforms for jousting tournaments. At that time the layout of Cheapside was more like a marketplace than a street: up to 62 feet wide but with very narrow exits at each end.

Re: Fuzzy:  Tusk Development 4715

Hmm.  It looks like I got the maths wrong - but I don't dare put things in the SS until they are 'agreed'.   That would be a recipe for absolute Chaos.

Current position (according to the SS) = Econ 62, Loy 63, Stab 65

However, many of my NPCs hang on to their BP for just this reason - so ....

  • Ron will offer to move his Carpenters' shop from Port Henry to Cheapside at his own expense - if he is allowed to upgrade to a MW  Carpenters and add a shrine of Torag. (+1 Econ, +1 Loy)  (Ron is a very minor priest of Torag)
  • Tansy would like to upgrade her Tavern to a Road House (+1 econ)

That gives Econ +2  (64)  Loy +1 (64), Stab +0 (65) - and leaves Tusk in balance.

(Note:  the very sad GM has arranged  a small loan between two of his very minor NPCs to facilitate this -  however, it was in the medium term plans of both of them, and would have happened eventually.)

Re: Fuzzy:  Tusk Development 4715

That looks fine to me, but if you wanted to (for example) postpone Ron's relocation and upgrade you could simply postpone House Lebeda-Ondari's mansion plans in Ivory Hill to reduce Stab to 64 instead, which would make it easier to balance and would only need Tansy's upgrade.

Re: Fuzzy:  Tusk Development 4715

Ron's move is fine - Tansy helped out, as she has a few more BP -  and nothing to do with them :)  And you still have a little bit of space left in Port Henry.
