So how does this read ... it sets out the terms of the 'peace' ...
The Regent’s Charter.
Duke Noleski Surtova of Port Ice will act as the Regent of Brevoy. The Brevoy Council of Peers will consist of the Dukes of Greyhaven, Silverhall, Winterbreak, Eagle’s Roost and Stoneclimb.
- The Regent will not collect taxes from the other noble houses or independent cities, he will derive his income from the lands surrounding New Stetven.
- No Noble, Viscount, Governor or Lord Mayor shall be removed from their holdings, without the express consent of the Council of Peers.
- No Noble, Viscount, Governor or Lord Mayor shall be punished for their part in the ‘so called’ civil war. Those disagreements have been resolved by this charter.
- The follow have been confirmed.
- - - Lady Jamandi Aldori is awarded the dormant title of Count of Rostland, and the commensurate lands. These will be held in perpetuity.
- - - Lord Henry leMaistre becomes Baron Gates, based on his holdings at Newgate, Eastgate and Westgate, in the province of Midmarch. These lands and titles to be held in perpetuity.
- - - Baroness Rogarvia-Green becomes Viscount Skywatch.
- - - Baron Gates becomes Viscount Midmarch.
- - - Restov is confirmed as an Independent City
- - - Tusk is awarded the status of Independent City.
- A new noble condition, Marcher Lord, is created. As with other nobles, Marcher Lords may not be taxed by the Regent, nor can their holdings be taken from them, without express permission from the Council of Peers.
- All Viscounts, Governors and Lord Mayors will be required to encourage and support the establishment of Marcher Lordships around the borders of Brevoy.
Unless you can see any flaws, that will be the document that underpins all the other grants ....

From this day forth Tusk is declared to be an Independent City, within the borders of Midmarch. It will be responsible for managing its internal affairs, electing its own officers and defending itself and its lands. It will have no master except for the Regent of Brevoy.

- The Regent may not remove the Lord Mayor of Tusk from office, without the express consent of the Council of Peers.
- The City of Tusk will be granted ownership of The Tusk Keep.
- The City of Tusk will be granted ownership of the land that surrounds it, even if that land was developed under the rule of the Governor of Midmarch. (Silverton)
- The City of Tusk must develop defences for both itself and the new land that it owns.
- The City of Tusk required to encourage and support the establishment of Marcher Lordships around the borders of Brevoy.

Henry has a few more, personal troops. Well, quite a few more actually - but even his personal House Guard of 13 units is smaller than Tusk's army :)
Mind you, Tusk doesn't have any Marine forces ....

I will probably reorganise the Tusk Charter in the same way.
Viscount Patent (Midmarch)

- The Viscount is required to build a line of fortifications on Brevoy’s Southern Border.

- The Province may not expand to the south, except to consolidate its current borders.
- The City of Tusk is removed from provincial administration and declared an Independent City.
- The Viscount is required to relinquish control of provincial resources that fall outside his boundaries. Specifically the Keep at Tusk and roads that now fall in Tusk’s jurisdiction.

It's also a way for the Council to stick it to Henry, much like they're sticking it to the Aldori- they could snap up every single March Lord office and there wouldn't be anything we could do to stop them- and he wouldn't have any standing to fight for us.

*grin* You say it is outside their boundaries. They say it is inside.
They have a bigger stick than you do. And you expect to take resources from inside Brevoy to build your Lordship :)
I suspect that DEMANDING anything would be a very quick way to piss off ALL the noble houses very quickly. It would be interesting to see Surtova, Lebeda, Garess, Orlovsky, Lodkova, and Medveyed massing on Midmarches Northern Borders.
The Aldori may not join them and choose to stay at home. In the same way as Midmarch did when the Aldori asked for help. :)

They get infrastructure without having to pay for it, we get rear-ended grande style because we're not them.
Like the GM said, welcome to politics when you're the little guy/girl. They let us play around until we find something they want or get everything set up- at which point they come over, kick our sand castles down, and plop in whatever imbecile of a family member needs or is loudly throwing a tantrum for a position of some import somewhere.
You want your little corner to remain yours? Get good at ducking the notice of the noble families and hope someone else pisses them off/interests them a lot more than your little corner of Golarion.

Nor do I see anything wrong with the establishment of another council, expressly for the communication and facilitation of unified goals of the “Marcher Lords” or that no mention that such a council exists outside the members of said council. We won’t bother to worry Henry with such things. Ever more busy by the day that poor man. I shan’t be surprised that he doesn’t try a cloning spell to allow himself a brief respite now and then.
We have been charged with defending “our” lands by the establishment of military defenses for just that purpose. I propose that we make that a priority. And it would be less than conscientious of us to slow in our commitment until we have developed no less than double the forces of the entirety of all other Brevic forces not under our jurisdiction.
It would then be interesting to have the Peerage Council determine one of our fellow Marcher Lords should be removed of their position when all we other Marcher Lords disagree. Would they try to have them physically removed? A risky venture should they be only able to muster half of our forces in total. And if those aforementioned Aldori did indeed choose to stay home?

It can be used to stop the enemy invading Brevoy - But it might also be used to influence Brevoy.
However, you should note that when Henry, and Midmarch, appeared to be getting as powerful as one of the great noble families - things changed. Technically nothing has been taken from Henry (on a Personal or Family level) he has even been promoted to a higher ranking, more influential position.
However, his overall influence in Brevoy has been reduced.

Particularly whether there should be a penalty if there is too much or too little Defence?
I mean, if 50% of the workforce is conscripted into the militia and the other half is either working overtime just to feed them or taxed to the hilt to support them, you will soon be hearing cries of "The peasants are revolting, M'Lord!" ;o)

Henry was sent to the Stolen Lands to get rid of the Stag Lord and to occupy the area for Brevoy. Obviously, he did that. But I doubt that the Houses ever believed he was going to be this successful or this powerful- and then we went and waggled out tails at both sides when the war broke out, and that scared the Houses something fierce- Midmarch was getting to be too powerful, too influential- and if there's anything old, ancient structures of political power absolutely loathe, it's a new kid on the block with growing popularity that could start chipping away at their own power base.
So they neutered Henry's power in Midmarch and the Aldori's in Restov, and made it look like they were honoring and praising the both of them when in reality, they were cutting away their power bases in Restov and Tusk- and limiting his borders and tempting us away from him with offers of our own little slices of property and holdings so they can treat with us more directly without having to go through Henry and his staff... to feel us out as individuals instead of as one big group- because saddling us with our own little territories to worry about means we'll be busy and unable to help Henry if they decide to tighten the screws on him, should he get ornery in their eyes again.
Not to mention, if we make too much noise or problems, what's to say they won't swoop in and boot us out of our Marcher territories if we develop it enough or find something they find interesting, like gold or magic or whatever?
It's okay if we go out and get land- but we've got to be careful we don't make too much noise doing so for now...

The creation of the position of Marcher Lord now offers a new incentive and reward for people brave and ambitious enough to build themselves a stronghold along the southern border of Brevoy, strengthening that southern border in the process. I would be very surprised if any Marcher Lords loyal to the nation of Brevoy (rather than those who draw attention by declaring their loyalty specifically to the Regent or the Aldori, for example) were to be arbitrarily displaced in future by the Council of Peers. It is the rotten apples that get thrown away, not the good ones.

I guess it depends on how you view it, I suppose- though at the moment, we're not exactly their favorite of favoritest people, so I'm just always looking for the strings attached to any offer they make to us. A half-full glass is also a half-empty glass, after all.
So you guys can go ahead and indulge and get your Marcher on- I might, in a bit if there's still land available, but right now, would you think Kiera would be any good at politics, going around half-pickled like she usually does and speaking her mind with no filter?
Besides- everyone opening their own settlements allows me the chance to wheel and deal and open up businesses in said settlements and towns- making a network of places to crash and bolt if I'm in town! Having a BP or two to kick around and patch things up with would also be a great thing to have, hehe, and a reason to travel and carry things like messages and other things on he between territories, well... I think that might be kind of helpful. :P

That is a cool way to role play it.
And Cass is in agreement about not making the wrong noises were the overlords can hear. In fact, maybe we need to make a few of the right noises so that they may hear that instead. Such as holding a feast day to celebrate Tusk as a free city. Maybe it could be the annual Independence Day celebration. Not a full blown RP event, just something for the books. Henry might want to do the same to celebrate his Barony.

I will rework the draft charters, that I put up for discussion, slightly to try and get a more consistent structure and incorporate Cass's point about 'Defence of the Realm' - although there won't be any huge changes to what was published.
Hopefully, when this little project is finished, it will give us a clear structure of Nobility (Etc) to work towards.

Well, I think of it this way:
When you guys create your Marcher territories, I imagine you’re going to get deluged with political stuff- offers of alliances, people seeking dirt or leverage on your allies, etc.- and having an unofficial way to get messages and warnings to each other outside of official mail, or someone to go in and poke around in a town where you can’t have an official presence... and where else are people going to talk besides while they shoot the crap over a cold beer or to impress a handsome man or beautiful woman they might have paid for time with? One of Henry’s people would draw suspicion, one of your own would, as well. But the woman who owns the local roadhouse or bar or brothel, who might be seeing some barrels of booze or escorting new talent to somewhere new? Who’d want to be known as the bunch who stopped the beer from getting to thirsty customers, especially in towns with no brewery or winery nearby? She has a legitimate reason to travel everywhere.
I might be a constant stopper at Caydenite religious houses- I don’t mind them one bit- but he’s not really for me. But if you wanted to send some of them by on occasion, they wouldn’t get tossed out. :)

I have been asked a couple of times if a PC can build a large estate/holding in a way that other PCs could pledge 'allegiance' to - in other words, a mini-Midmarch. So far we haven't had a specific guidance for that, so I would have been making stuff as I went along, and then playing catchup with the rules - just life I have been with the March-Lord holdings. :)Considering how that has put the Aristocracy/Noble system 'front and centre' for the time being, I thought I would address that now.
As I look at the charters and patents - it is becoming clear that Governors, Lord-Mayors and Barons are all regional leaders who should have a (roughly) equally influence, rights and responsibilities. And I have decided to give all three the right to create Lairds and Lords-Dominus without recourse to the Council of Peers.
- Laird - 'owns' either a hex or a Hamlet that they are hereditary 'lords' of. Both Safiya and Marik is laird of two settlements in Midmarch. Technically Cass is Laird of Silverton AND Lord Mayor of Tusk. This is a very minor position in the Aristocracy and doesn't really get ant extra influence.
- Lord-Dominus - doesn't need to be a landowner, but promises support to their 'overlord'. Cyrus (Ringbridge) is an example of this. Adoven with 5 defence points to pledge (Manor House, Sword School, Military College) will also be a Lord-Dominus.
Examples
Character1 wants to build an independent stronghold - away from Henry's (or anyone else's immediate control) They can follow this route ..
- Set up a march-Hold. This will allow them to appoint Lairds ...
- Build 5 points of defence - apply to the council for Lord-Dominus rank
- Increase defence to 10 BP - apply to the council for lordship
- Increase defence to 15 BP - apply to the council for Barony
- Promote Lairds to Lords-Dominus etc ...
Character2 wants to build a more 'traditional' barony. They can follow this route ...
- Get a hex from Henry - This will allow them to appoint Lairds ...
- Build 5 points of defence - apply to Henry for Lord-Dominus rank
- Increase defence to 10 BP - ask Henry to apply to the council for lordship
- Increase defence to 15 BP - ask Henry to apply to the council for Barony
- Promote Lairds to Lords-Dominus etc ...
Alternately - build 'New Tusk' somewhere and get yourself appointed as Lord mayor.

So I am planning to add a stipulation that Def Points must always be the lowest of Econ, Loy, Stab and Def.
Although it will be written as Def must be lower than Econ, Loy, or Stab.
Econ 4, Loy 5, or Stab 3. Def 2 = OK
Econ 4, Loy 5, or Stab 3. Def 3 = not OK

If they are contiguous, it just expands as in Ringbridge, Tatzleford or Safiya's Holdings. If they are spread out, (Like Henry and Marik) - well we will cross that bridge when we come to it - But I can't see a problem unless it is a blatant land grab :)
BTW - I have completed all the work I intend to do on Charters and patents - Unless someone finds an issue with them.
I have used Henry, Marik, Cyrus, Zelona, Adoven and Andalon as examples ... :P

However, if you come up with new 'loyalty' buildings that match the themes used for Loyalty, I will happily add them to the lists. The lists have never been much more that guidelines anyway. As soon as anyone has given me a legit example, I have added it or developed a whole new suite of developments (Like when Rose asked about magic shops)
I would be delighted to have some more examples of Loy / Stab buildings - I used up all of my ideas some time ago, and I am waiting for new inspiration to hit me ....

Loyalty is all about - Why do I want to live in this village/town/city/country, rather than move to that village/././country over there.
Things like ...
"Hey, I can get a wash in the public bathhouse for a few coppers ..."
"We got a dump. A special place to leave our rubbish and it gets cleared! The town smells a lot fresher now."
Stability is all about feeling safe and protected - from your neighbours and outside issues. Which is why military and law enforcement items get a Stab Boost.
That said, many buildings have a bit of both Loy and Stab
"We got a granary. Our council built it to see us through if something bad ever affects the crops."

To keep things balanced they now need to have all other stats at 2 or more, which will cost them 4 more BPs (at least). A new character will have a very hard time coming up with that.
Also, would variance affect this condition as well?

However, a one district town is enough to support a castle.

As they were outside of the law, those rules didn't apply to them. Obviously, Midmarch and Tusk wouldn't allow anyone to become a Marcher-Lord by following those examples. Or perhaps they effectively had their 'community' housed within the fort itself, like a walled village?

Think of Green as 'Getting Noticed' and Gold as 'Significant'. BUT - remember these values are relative. Tusk's Influence in Restov, for example, is still fairly minor (compared to the leading lights of Restov) BUT it means they know of you and might listen politely ...
There are 'cusp' scores - a green Ten (for example) has been rounded down to 10. Non-highlighted Tens have been rounded up to 10.

Quentin and Dara have just become NPCs. Their payers haven't been into the game for a couple of months, etc etc. I think I will rule that the Characters 'fell' for each other while they were out adventuring and have now decided to settle down somewhere in Midmarch. They will build a business based on their character backgrounds.
Mariam became a full-NPC a little while ago.
El and Pipre do both speak to me and let me know how things are going - even though they don't get in to post / play. Those two are on 'hold' - they will come out of adventuring groups and hang around in group 0 threads. Their players will still 'own' them, But I will be NPCing occasionally and managing their resources.
All of which means I am getting close to advertising for a new tranche of Players ...

Tusk is a small city, so it has a value of 4000 gp, 75% sets the maximum component value to 3000 gp, or item value to double that - 6000 gp. So, going by that, Safiya / Senas can't craft an item worth 8000 gp until Tusk becomes a large city.
Btw Cass, I think you are confusing Senas with another NPC offering one-time deals for magic weapons/armor. There's no one-time only limit on his deals, though the 60% price tag could change in the future.

We'll deal with that issue when we come to it. And I suspect it will probably involve quests, quest items and risk etc. BUT - they will be few and far between, because I am not going to run an extra thread on a casual 'I want ...' type concept.

It was very relaxing, no time pressures for anything lots of time for reading etc etc. One problem was that I only took three of the Tiffany Aching books with me. Then I started to read the fourth yesterday evening. At 3 am I went to bed. Just one more to go, BUT I will make myself leave it to the weekend.
And I have learned not to take overnight ferries with DFDS ... getting any sleep on them is next to impossible. However, they aren't bad ferries, and they are much cheaper than the alternatives.
I will get posts up before the end of the week!

There are a few more new characters in the pipeline - I have been pleased with the applications this time around, with interesting and rounded characters. No-one that I have felt the need to reject out of hand, or have to spend weeks working with to get a workable character.
Soon we will have Group 3 up and running again, which means we should be able to move back to exploring the south and east again, before too long. However, Group 3 will start by visiting Bogside ....

Thank you, I am sure it will be. There will be camping, BBQs, late night drinking around camp fires - and then a bit of Musketry, sword play and a few other bits and bobs. If we are really lucky we will get a cannon out ...
Oh, and did I mention there will be more BBQs and more late night drinking around a camp fire? How can it not be fun? :)

I had the delight of being at a reenactment event once where the grass wadding for the cannon had a hedgehog sleeping in it. Knocked a poor guy off his feet on the other side of the field. ^_^

I was at a re-enactment many years ago, where burning cannon wadding combined with strong winds and a recently harvested field - set the battlefield on fire.
Battle cancelled, full scale evacuation of spectators and participants - and a few cars burnt out. There is a story that one of the cars destroyed belonged to the Fire Safety Officer, from the Local Fire and Rescue Srevice, who had approved the event. However, I suspect that is apocryphal ....

All done today because I go away for the weekend. It is my first camping trip of the year, so much of tomorrow morning will be spent prepping the Camping-Car and getting my gear together - then I set off at about lunchtime. I will be popping in, through the morning, so I can answer short questions, comments etc.
Just to cap it all, my phone is messing about and I can't get any internet (although calls work OK) so I will probably be off-line all weekend. I will get back home Sunday evening, but may not post until Monday.

Word had it that they didn't swab the barrel properly and rammed a bag of black powder home onto a glowing ember at the bottom of the barrel. Which fired the cannon and sent the ramrod flying across the battlefield - which ripped the hands of the rammer to pieces.... I also knew there was a bunch of GW guys involved in hobby. Never put the two together.
I don't take active roles like that any more. I leave that to the younger, more energetic chaps. Normally, when I am working a cannon, I take the part of the Powder Monkey. That means I am located some distance behind the cannon, sitting of a box of black powder .... :)

If you have improved disarm or any similar combat maneuvers, you may display your prowess most sagely. Cass has the combat maneuver hit things with sword. ;)

Round is a draw. No damage. If we want to go by rounds. If so, we could roll for initiative each round. Gamblers could bet per round as well. Or we can do it as one continuous group of actions.

You are aware there are social repercussions for being a coward? Shunned at social occasions, your businesses stop getting customers and that sort of thing.
Dom has a bow and evasion so levitating fireballs inside the salon not so much as a challenge as you think.

Domitius is of the faction of Aldori that remained in Rostland. It was the fleeing faction that set up residence in the River Kingdoms.
Cass grew up a street rat and part of what helped him to survive and thrive were tales of the Aldori and dedicating himself to learning Aldori bladesmanship. But having seen that the reality of the Aldori did not meet the romantic idealism, Cass spoke out against them during the war council. In slurring the River Kingdoms Aldori, Cass inadvertently did not make the distinction between that faction and the Rostland faction. Domitius took insult regarding his family and issued a duel challenge to Cass for the offense.
So, in my opinion, Dom is standing up for idealism and the honor of his family.

So I am more than happy to deal with this in game, but since we're here, here are my thoughts:
1) I supposed it depends on who is going to consider Marik a coward for ignoring Domitius' challenge. From what I'm seeing in the OOC chat, the answer is not many. Domitius has spend way too long in noble court's to think people are going to care that much. Moreover, a quick check of the "Influence in Midmarch" page shows that Marik has a 21 influence in Midmarch and Domitius has a 12. I'm no expert, but that seems like a pretty big difference to me. Finally, I think it's probably a pretty good assumption that Marik's diplomacy skill is much higher than Domitius', so it's probably not a good idea to challenge him in the court of public opinion.
2) I was going to bring up what Andalon stated. It doesn't seem very honorable for someone who has likely trained with a sword since they were a wee child to challenge someone to a duel of blades who has literally never picked one up. Super courageous on Domitius' part.
3) Marik really doesn't care about Domitius' opinion of him. As he stated in the same rant you quoted above, Marik's mother was a whore, he doesn't know who his father is, and he grew up on the street. Honor doesn't mean much to him and he doesn't really care if Domitius (and likely very few others) are going to call him a coward. And again, given his influence in Midmarch I seriously doubt he'll be "shunned at social occasions", and Marik doesn't really have any businesses. Rather, he is one of the more prominent landholders in Midmarch and has a literal monopoly on all iron, gold, and silver mined in Midmarch. I doubt people will refuse to deal with him. Besides, with Marik's social skills, it won't take long for him to turn things around and make Domitius look like a bully.
4) If there was a duel with Marik using magic, Domitius wouldn't be allowed to use his bow. See, the equivalent of Domitius' challenge to a sword duel would be Marik challenging Domitius to a duel of spells...something I'm guessing Domitius wouldn't be very good at.
5) And like Marik (and now Adoven) have said, Marik simply stated the truth. Domitius swore an oath and then said he would not fulfill that oath. Does that mean Marik questioned his honor? I suppose so, but then it's simply the truth. The fact that "Henry told him too" doesn't change the fact that he swore the oath. That's just passing the buck.

I'd be interested to see what the oath was, I could see him swearing to Henry but balking at swearing to Brevoy, still it was early days and Dom wasn't as fleshed out as he is now. Also I would like to point out he hasn't broken the oath so all Marik has is an accusation of being a traitor not a fact.
We do need to remember as a group that none of you are gutter trash anymore, you're the nobility of Midmarch and people would expect you act accordingly. I know Dom holds you all to a higher standard than the street sweepings and treats you accordingly.
Marik you are aware Dom was one of your customers, right now he will most likely close the Jewellers down in New Dawn in light of Marik's attitude.

Back then I think it was more a case of you turned up and fought with what you where comfortable with, Dom would have expected Marik to use his magic in a duel, just as he would have expected to use his sword in the duel.
Also Dom isn't trying to kill anyone, if you want to fight to first touch with practice swords that would suffice honour for both parties.

However, those rules for Noble behaviour are down to me to decide. This is not 18th century Europe. And you have seen MY house duelling rules. If they are not observed the Duelling Salon will be closed down. Simples.
Duelling is NOT going to be a major part of this game. Nor is ongoing conflict between players. I don't enjoy that as a player and I don't enjoy it as a DM.
If anyone has a Character who can't deal with that, perhaps it is time to roll a new a new character who can.

I had a great time, teaching a couple of people how to fire a musket on Saturday, then drilling with and fining a battery of cannon. It is fair to say that the bangs were big, the beer flowed freely and the BBQ was good.

A good roast will take you a few hours and constant attention, but it could turn out wonderful.

It was a Bring-Your-Own BBQ on Friday night - I marinaded some strips of lamb fillet in fresh mint, oil and white vinegar. After 24 hours in the marinade, they need little more than searing to be really nice :)
Saturday night was venison stew - We were on a farm that runs herds of deer (among other stock). That was really nice as well :)

It was actually pretty good, but it's hard to find it outside of specialty markets and butchers- but I make do with good pork, beef, chicken... not too sure of my skills with lamb or seafood, though- might try trout grilled on a plank before it gets too cold and nasty outside to do much grilling.
But yeah, as long as you cook meat enough to kill any little surprises that might be on or in the meat, make it as rare or as well-done as you like, you know?

I like to cut chicken into strips and marinade them in oil, lemon juice and pepper. Then they take just a couple of minutes on the BBQ, and they are cooked through but really succulent and juicy :)
I used to have 'bats' for fish, a flat cage that you put the fish in before you cook them, it holds the fish together nicely and you don't get bits stuck all over the grill.

Oh, I'm in a bariatric program being observed by the hospital. Its absolutely legit. I'm being observed by a doctor, a dietician , a fitness instructor and a therapist. I get weekly check ups and everything. I've lost 50 pounds already so it works for the short term getting me to a place I can work off the rest of the weight myself :). Just get food cravings sometimes.

That's always been the problem with me and grilling fish- I try to get the good grill marks on it, but the blasted filet always comes apart into fragments and sticks to the grill or ends up dropping into the coals.
On the other hand, if I had the money, I'd have one of those smoker rigs and just go absolutely nuts with it.

Those of you not on the list, have a basic room in a barrack block - or stay in one of the buildings that you own.
There are options to build extra accommodation for yourself in the campaign rules (ask me and I will point them out) as part of your property portfolio - BUT make sure you have an income established first ;}
Now you just need to tell me where you want to be based. Houses and town houses are found in Cities and towns, so you have a choice of Tusk, Ringbridge, Newgate or Oston - assuming you get permission from the landowner.
These don’t have to be your main residence – for example Henry has a number of homes, but generally uses either his manor house in Tusk or the castle at Newgate. Cyrus has a manor house in Ringbridge, and a smaller house in Tusk (for when he is in the city)
See below for the properties you can have as a freebie – and further below for a quick description. This is all based on the PF cost of living standards :}
The following people have enough of an Income to secure a House as a bonus.
These people can have a Town House as a bonus.
Kendrick & Pipre already have a Town House in Tusk – and one of them might have an apartment in Tusk keep.
Descriptions
Barracks Room – You get a small room Just big enough for a small bed, table and chair (let’s say 7.5x5) in a barracks and are entitled to meals in the mess hall. There are baths, toilets etc for communal use You need not track purchases of meals or taxes that cost 1 sp or less.
Town House - Three rooms,(15×20) stacked one on top of each other. Ground = Entrance, storage, washroom. Stairs to – Middle floor: living room, cooking done over the open fire. Stairs to – Top Floor: Sleeping room with sloping ceilings. Generally part of a terrace of houses. Small yard with toilet.- - You eat regular meals and can afford occasional minor luxuries. You still wear artisan style clothing (costs less 10gp), but can afford clothes for everyday use – and a different set for ‘best’ – and they are in fairly good condition. You probably employ a P/T cleaner and P/T cook. You can secure any non-magical item worth 1 gp or less from your home in 1d10 minutes, and need not track purchases of common meals or taxes that cost 1 gp or less.
House - - Think three bedroomed house spread over three floors, top is a half-floor with sloping ceilings. Often has a yard with a toilet and is part of a terrace. Perhaps one live-in servant with others coming in part-time. You eat well and can afford minor luxuries when you feel like it, but you still save up for bigger treats. You probably have a set of Courtier’s clothes for posh occasions. You can secure any non-magical item worth 5 gp or less in your home, and need only track purchases of meals or taxes in excess of 5 gp.

As part of that, I have been working with Tusk Council to establish an 'electoral' system for Tusk. Don't expect a full on democracy - it is more like a Fantasy Version of the historic system used in free cities found in the Hanseatic League or Holy Roman Empire.

I have just made a blog post on troop types, because I am rethinking and tying down the mass combat rules and how they interact with the rest of the Campaign Rules.
Many of you will have realized, by now, that my Blog posts are little more than 'Stream of Thinking' posts. Writing things down help me get my thoughts in order, which is (most likely) a hang over from my days as an academic :) That said, what I write in them is not set in stone and I welcome any thoughts or comments :)

at 20:20 | Re: OOC 3I have just tweaked the Entourage rules so that Entourage-Cousins and Entourage-Allies can advance to higher levels - however, advancement beyond L5 depends on how much XP they earn from their holdings, at 100xp per BP of income. There are a few extras as well, but for most Entourages they won't exceed 250xp per year. As their personal holdings increase, the more XP they get.
Mother Beatrix (who is a blood-cousin to Henry) gets XP for controlling the Pharasman Abbey and its associated Holy Houses. She gets 650xp per year - 400xp from the Pharasman estate and 250 for being a 'Local Celebrity' (as are most NPCs with any holdings at all)
Rikka (who is a Cohort-Cousin to Henry but now advances using the same XP system) picks up about 450 xp per year from her basic dealings - although she also gets about 1000xp per year to reflect her role as Treasurer of Midmarch. Although you should note that the XP that Henry gets less XP because of it.
This is meant to encourage you to behave well by your Cousins and Allies. However, they will be satisfied if you restrict their 'personal' holdings to a setting that gives them 3* accommodation - be it a Hamlet, Village or a Business.
You do not have to give them any holdings, of course, but then they don't advance beyond L5. At L6, if they have at least one stat at 15, and the appropriate prerequisites, they may advance to an appropriate PC or Prestige class.

Yes - IF he is an Entourage-Cousin or Ally - in that way he (sort of) swears allegiance to you and/or your family.
The Entourage System is a mash up between all sorts of systems for swearing Loyalty / Service / Fealty rolled into one.
Entourage-assistants are your loyal servants / staff who will serve you loyally for ever, and these are the guys whose family will serve your family for generations.
Entourage-Cousins bring them into your family as a Junior member - and merge your fortunes. Every one benefits. Your wealth and holdings are no longer a Personal Holding, but a family holding (as yours is already with Vik and the baby) head of Household gets the title. For Example, if Henry dies, his title is passed on - probably to his daughter, perhaps to Bai, perhaps to Henry's Sister.
Entourage-Allies is almost same and ties two separate groups together, often with a Charter that cedes some land on a PC's estate to an Ally, in return for support etc. Their defence points would count in the family/estate totals and would count towards titles etc.
As I said, a mash up, trying to do about six things, but also trying to keep it simple - with one page of rules :)

No. The mechanic is as you describe it. However, it just gives a different RP angle. While the Entourage-Ally's holdings are expanded, in many ways they still count as part of your holdings. For example, Def Points in their holdings count towards You 'score' when going for a title. Equally (If Alanna became an entourage-ally) you could use the BP Alanna brings to buy shares in your business, or use one of them to build a shop in New Dawn (you then collect tax on it) and use the income from that to build her 'holdings' in the city.
One advantage is that they will level faster, if you want the Entourage Cousin to take a Prestige class for any reason.
Just a bit more flexibility in the way PCs can build and manage their estates.

It features normal Entourage-Assistants - one of whom becomes an Entourage-Ally at the earliest opportunity. It assumes that the PC will earn one level per game year - so will change with faster or slower PC progression.
It is also a reasonable time line for setting up a small 2 hex holding as a minor lordship within Midmarch. Marcher-Lordships will be slower (You don't get the same help from the Lord) and Tusk may be more difficult.
Setting up holdings and estates can be much quicker if two or three people work together, as you have extra BPs to invest. Loans, etc might also be available - but those must be paid back, normally with interest.

at 12:45 | Re: OOC 3Recent work on the Mass Combat system left me wondering about military buildings, and I realised that there was a lot of overlap between the some of them and that I needed to do something to reflect the different troop types that I added. In the process, I have changed the name of the Outpost to Fort, although I haven’t changed the stats at all. I have changed both the cost and Stab of a garrison – it now costs 4bp to build and adds +1 Stab (rather than +2). The Keep is now a bigger building, costs more and has a higher Def – to better represent a the smallest of the castle types.
Anyone who has already brought any of these buildings, at a lower cost, will find they have been upgraded by next Kingdom round. If the stats for your building has gone down, I will make the difference up, one way or another. As far as I can see, it is only Tusk and Whiterun that will be affected. No one will be worse off than they are now.

Military jetties are there to provide a base for water based troops (that I have called marines) that are intended for adding defence to lakes and rivers. They are light troops who come with small boats (a bit like fishing boats) who are able to board other vessels, either to check them out or to fight. (1bp buys a unit of troops and a boat). Rather than traditional 'Marines' in the UK and US forces (originally trained for assault from the sea)- these are specialist soldier/sailors who crew their own vessel and are trained to fight from it - a lawful pirate/buccaneer equivalent.
It would be fairly straightforward to convert a Shallop for military duties - but I can't see there would be any real value in that. A shallop would come with two units of troops and cost 2 bp. Two 'boats' cost the same, provide the same defence and are a bit more flexible.
Other vessels can take on mercenary troops and use those for defence / attack - although I haven't written the rules for that yet. It has been on my mind, since I really started considering the 'have what you hold' concept common in Mivon - but I haven't documented it.
Any vessel can be used to transport troops - but I think there needs to be a restriction on how well non-specialist troops can fight aboard a vessel.
I'll work on it today.

As Kendrick pointed out, you are invited :)
The main purpose of Group 0 fuzzy threads is to allow interaction between PCs from different parties. In your case, it is a way to get to know some of the more established characters.
I'll pop Big Job in there so you have someone you recognize. The key thing to remember is that this is 'out of time' when compared to the adventuring threads - so it is Chit Chat type RP. :)

A whole weekend of old-skool tabletop that runs from Friday evening through to Sunday lunchtime. Unfortunately, that won't be happening this year - Covid has interrupted a lot of things.
However, we are going to Blackpool, to see the illuminations, instead. I leave Sunday and get back the following Saturday - but should have internet in the hotel - but I won't have all of my reference material with me. So, that week will be general updates with little detail.
I will get updates into each of the threads on either Friday or Saturday this week,

In some respects, it is pretty much as Cass said - In other ways it is a chance for you guys to write about your characters, explore them a bit or let others see further into your characterization / background. It is also a chance to practice craft skills etc.
You get XP for all sorts of things in this game. While most of your XP comes from adventuring, you also get XP for RP (in both the adventure and fuzzy threads) as well as participation in the campaign system. Just this week, I gave a Character a 50xp RP bonus for a single post in an adventure thread that fitted the situation perfectly and made me grin.
A single post award is rare, it normally takes a series of posts to trigger an XP award.
Time is an issue in a large game with multiple groups and a campaign system that gives you bonuses based on business developments. We use Fuzzy:Time threads (such as the Wedding threads) to let characters meet up, form relationships and interact across groups. Adventuring parties are rarely 'in-town' at the same time, and concluding 'adventures' at the same time is a nightmare!
A 'game year' lasts 6 RL months - Downtime comes around every 3 RL months or so.

They don't have to, of course, and almost all of them will be able to perform their roles with their normal NPC class. However, some people like to add RP-flavour to their game - either way works OK.
Not all PRC classes are suitable for NPCs though - in fact there are only a few that look suitable to me. And some of those need lots of levels to qualify for - especially for an NPC class. And stay-at-home NPCs level very slowly ...
So here are my thoughts on Entourage-Cousins and Prestige Classes.

Before you get too excited ... It must be run as a separate entity - that means that none of the income comes to your main character, and your main character doesn't get any special deals from House Yitis. However, you get to represent House Yitis in meetings and at events, and to negotiate on their behalf, for building etc. You will get 'broad direction' from House Yitis in Mivon, but how you interpret that, is up to you.
This position is NOT open to anyone who currently holds an interest in a merchant house.
I am thinking of starting a Merchant-Venturers guild, based in Tusk, to co-ordinate merchant activity across the region. WSM, V&A, DELEM, Safiya and Marik (who all have some merchant interests) would have a place in the guild anyway.

I guess my issue is that he spoke directly to them, and then they just kept talking as if he's not there. So either I have to assume in character they blatantly ignored him, or basically just pretend like he didn't say anything.

My last post in here was, literally, as I closed my PC down on the way to bed - and that was (something like) going to work first thing in the morning time, for Berta :) Your post, was a cross post with mine. There was a PM in there that you couldn't see - and another PM in Berta's post.
I didn't see a red light on that thread, all the way through the evening, I didn't see Berta's post until your post here brought it to my attention. Unfortunately, that is the way things go on RPoL every so often.

I would assume though that a Sword School, college, or Academy could take their defense point(s) in the type of troop they specialize in training if they so choose. For example, if a Sword School specialized in training scouts, they could take the troops that building's defense point "earns" as a scouts. Or if a Military College specializes in scouts and chasseurs, that could take 1 defense point worth of each. Is that correct?

The defence points for the training establishment are Sell Swords - those are the guys who are in their final year of training, but haven't developed all of their professional skills yet :)
It doesn't make any difference to the Mass Combat rules, nor their ability to patrol their local area - after all, they need to train in the type of area they will be working in. BUT they haven't gained all of their skills yet.

- A sword school specializes in City Guards.
- When it upgrades to a college, it still trains guards, but adds marines as well (for example).
- Later it upgrades to an academy and decides to add Caravan Guards to the list - it now turns out City Guards, Marines and Caravan Guards.

Every School, College or Academy turns out Sell Swords - that is just a name I am using for minimally trained L3 warriors who leave to go and complete their training in the job. It means that there are always 'troops' available (even when there isn't a school training for that specific profession)
- A school can turn out one more type - Sell Swords and City Guards (perhaps)
- Upgrade to a college could give you - Sell Swords, City Guards and Marines
- Upgrade to an Academy and you might choose to train - Sell Swords, City Guards, Marines and Private Guards

Assuming that she doesn't have Reach or Step Up - you should be safe to cast if you take a 5ft step away from her.
If you move more than 5' and try to take an action (such as casting) she will get an Attack of Opportunity. If you make a full withdraw (no other action) you will be safe from an AoO.

at 12:52 | Re: OOC 3I mean, just based on the feats alone, you could make all sorts of difficulty levels- account for different styles of weapons and fighting styles with a few different feat sets.
You might get a duelist who favors two-handed weapons that might take something like Power Attack if they're all about the muscle, or maybe another setup for someone who likes to use their fists or any other kind of weapon.
The only real drawback is a lot of these require INT of 13...
I mean, it's just a thought...

These aren't supposed to be good duellists, but they are the 'ordinary' students who leave a duelling school at the end of their studies. They are trained to fight and to fight duels - BUT they won't be very good duellists. They will be easy meat for a PC class character of the same level in a duel, BUT will (most probably) be a bit better than an ordinary soldier (in a duel). :)
If they should progress to be a L4 or 5 character, they might start to hold their own against vert junior PC duellists.
So - Level 3, stats all at 12 and an NPC class :)
I know it is a strange exercise - but it means ann extra bit of RP fluff comes available ...

However, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SUITABLE CHARACTER and want to take part in the competition, please PM me. I have a couple of NPCs who would like to play - OK they haven't been defined yet, and haven't yet come to the notice of the leaders of Tusk or Midmarch - but they have been there, in the background, just waiting for their chance.

A shrine, or great shrine perhaps - so long as the Religious Council doesn't object.

I keep wondering if trying the dice roller on the "new interface" site might work when they're not being friendly on the original site. It'd be akin to having a second set of dice when playing table top.
I've not tested this theory yet, though. :)

My castle is Zero Rated because of all the holes in the roof and the government digging up the Rose Garden to build a motorway.
The horse went lame, so it was sent to the Knacker's yard - which earned me half a groat. My donkey is rated very reasonably, although I find it hard to get out of first gear!

I don't think you quite understand the principles of medieval banking, yet. The bank will keep your money safe. That is what you pay a fee for, and you only pay it on withdrawal because that is when you actually have proof that the bank has performed that service for you. Look on the bright side - the bank's fee doesn't increase over time, regardless how long you want the bank to keep your money safe for you. If you never withdraw your money from the bank, you won't ever have to pay a fee! :o)
