Marceline Gray:
I think between the several characters (players and npc alike) we could probably get a consensus on resurrection over raise dead and all similar spells/actions.

Re: OOC 3

And from Faiths of Balance , whichgives an overview of all the Neutral Deities ...

quote:
Taboos
The taboos of the faith are largely local
in nature, but there are a few that
remain constant across the faith. As
her follower, you are forbidden to kill
her psychopomps, such as whippoorwills
and scarabs, for they are the goddess’s
eyes and ears. While the goddess has
no opinions regarding contraception,
you may not partake in the abortion of
unborn babies, for to do so is to cut short
the destiny of a child before it has had a
chance to make its own. While necromancy
has many beneficial spells that allow you to
care for both the dead and the living, you may
not create undead, nor control them unless
you do so specifically for the purpose of
destroying them.

No mention of Raising the Dead as  something that is Taboo to priests of Pharasma.  However, there is nothing to stop individual priests or orders from having a personal / local ban or dislike.

For Example, Ethankos has already stated, publicly, that he does not want to be Raised or Resurrrected if he should die.

Re: OOC 3

I think in the instance of the other game it is that it was arcane magic used that is causing the issue.  That and otjer souls have been used to repair the resurrected soul.

I don't think Arcane should be a problem.  The use of other souls, thereby disrupting their afterlife, would be a big problem for a lot of Pharasmin  :)

Re: OOC 3

As a priest of Pharasma dedicated to returning undead to their rest, Ethankos sees the transition of the soul to the afterlife as a final journey.  But while he chooses never to raise the dead himself, that is his own affair, and to do so or not is in no way in conflict with the teachings of his church ... so if others choose to do so, that is a matter for themselves alone, though he would council against such if consulted.

I reworked the Who's Who page slightly, and brought it (a bit more) up to date.  It doesn't look as neat, but it is a bit easier to navigate.

If you look at the Southern Chapter -  you will see some names  (in Green) have links to their family details.  If you would like a page for your Family/business/holding -  then  I will create it for you, although I will expect you to provide a large chunk of the raw text.

Different people have created their pages in different ways, there is no set format   :)

Re: OOC 3

I am working on ways of handling cross border developments again!  The system I came up with last time was getting very complicated, and I work the merchants hard enough already.  Not to mention making my life difficult, as well :P

The system need to reflect the difficulty of breaking into a new market, the 'protectiveness' of the people already running business in new markets, and what the benefits are for the new community.  So it will mean that development on 'foreign' places is slower than on Home Soil.

But then the kudos and security and extra income that comes from Cross Border trade is worth it ....

At the same time, I am using the opportunity to restrict the ways that income from religious buildings can be used to finance general business and settlement development.  I'm not banning it, I just want to see a link between Church Income and the goals of the deity - oh, and a commitment from the PC :)  Note:  I am not going to take anything away from any existing holdings or businesses.

And I have just reworked the Jovvox page.  Little has changed, but now you know a lot more about it.

Phew:  That took a long time, but I think I have a better solution for trading and developing across borders.

It isn't set in stone -  let me know what you think and (if I think you have a good case) I'll change it.

Re: OOC 3

Two questions.

1) If Jovvox's hamlet is getting rich from my developments there, why can't we use that money to expand its limit on expansion?

2) Even though I am no cleric, can I still build a Holy House to Shelyn within the confines of the Bardic College I was planning? It fits Shelyn's interest.

Jovvox would apply that restriction to any outsider.  V&A are the first 'outsiders' to be given permission to build there - ever.  They saw an advantage to them in allowing you to set up there, mainly because they thought there was going to be a war between Surtova and the Aldori, and they wanted to sell loads of weapons.  Other than that, they are happy to stay as a small town.

This doesn't change your agreement with Jovvox -  but it makes it easier to funnel income from Jovvox into developments in Mivon, Restov or other 'foreign' setlements.

2) Even though I am no cleric, can I still build a Holy House to Shelyn within the confines of the Bardic College I was planning? It fits Shelyn's interest.

No.  Not unless you take an Entourage Ally/Cousin who is a priest of Shelyn.  You can, however, set up a Shrine or Great Shrine dedicated to Shelyn within the confines of the Bardic College.

So the 0.45 bp I was generating in Mivon is now reduced to 0.3? And the same for any Shallops or fishing boats I sail down there?

Re: OOC 3

Yes.  But you don't have the problem of converting to cash and back again, and you don't have all the extra costs for bringing in vessels from Tusk.

Henry makes 0.25 bp from his serai in New Stetven.

Whoops.  0.25bp.    I'll edit it in the last post, so I don't have a queue outside New Stetven's city gates :) :)

^^^^THIS!^^^^^

But there must be coffee houses, and tea houses, and fine drinks of all kinds available for ones who wants to leave their confines and socialize with their neighbors. All for a modest price, of course.

I think I'd like to be one of those people who pockets various items from hotels, every time I stay.   Do I need a level of rogue, to be able to do that?

Re: OOC 3

No.  Just a big suitcase.

I got accused of stealing a rug from the room in a small greek hotel once. We opened our suitcases to show it wasn't there, and they finally believed us that it wasn't there in the first place.   That was 'interesting' - I have about 6 words of Greek and their English wasn't that good.  It took a while to even work out what the problem was  :)

That's hysterical -  though I'm sure it probably wasn't while you were going through it.

Suitcase?   Ha - this is D&D!   A bag of holding will do the trick.   And no worries, won't bag-nap any halflings.   That would just be wrong.

Well, unless one of them's like a really good pastry chef.
