Fuzzy:  Duelling Challenge

Lord Henry would like to announce the Southern Duelling Challenge, and is offering a prize of 2000gp credit with Rikka the Smith, for the winner.

Duels will take place under the Challenge Duel rules, on this page http://rp.baileymail.net/doku....inder:rules:duelling, although the requirement to lodge a 3000gp bond is suspended.
  • Use this thread to arrange participants and umpires.
  • Use the Duelling Salon Thread for spectators and general conversation.  link to a message in this game
  • Use a Duelling Table thread for the duel – BUT not until the combatants and Duellists have been agreed.

If you do not have a suitable duelling character, but wish to take part, I have some NPCs who are available to duel.

How does one determine who is the final victor?  Individual duels are easy enough but once you have fought what determines your next opponent?

If we have enough participants, well set up a knock out competition.  If not, we'll use a Round-Robin format.

Although I am open to other suggestions.

Can Cyrus choose a short sword and a buckler or does he have to use a Rapier and a buckler? It’s not a huge deal but he’s a long sword and board specialist and that seems to be the closest approximation of his skills...

Oh and I am happy to Umpire any duels I am not fighting in if that helps move things along :)

Kendrick smiled as he watched several people step up to accept challenges. "You would have thought that we had enough fighting between the giants and other denizens of the wild. But I couldn't help myself and stay away." Kendrick stood in his full suit of armor and longsword at his side. He shifted the shield over his back, "How did you all want to do this? Free for all with the last man standing the winner?"

Just as a reminder.

Duelling is un-armoured and with a  blade provided by the duelling salon - it is a test of pure swordsmanship.

Equipment available is:
  • Aldori Duelling Sword,
  • Falcata,
  • Rapier,
  • Dagger,
  • Short Sword,
  • Buckler.

In reply to Cyrus Lebeda-Ondari (msg # 6):

quote:
These slightly curved swords measure just over 3 feet in length.

An dueling sword can be used as a martial weapon (in which case it functions as a longsword), but if you have the feat Exotic Weapon Proficiency (dueling sword), you can use the Weapon Finesse feat to apply your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to attack rolls with a dueling sword sized for you, even though it isn’t a light weapon. You can also wield a dueling sword in two hands to apply 1-1/2 times your Strength bonus to damage rolls.

Cyrus, you may want to use a dueling sword :)
IF you have the Exotic Weapon Proficiency for the dueling sword, then you can treat the weapon as a finesse sword. BUT for those without the feat, then it is a longsword.

So unarmored. This also means magical items too?
So then it's only stats and dice!

Any more for the Duelling Challenge?  This is open to any character, and I have a couple of NPCs who wouldn't mind joining on, IF there is a Player to run them :)  But - only one character per player  duelling, please.

I have noted interest from ...

  • Dom
  • Adoven
  • Cass
  • Kendrick
  • Cyrus

With five contestants it looks like a Round Robin format.

We'll start the duels between Christmas and New Year -  so only a few days left to join in.

Additionally include a line private to me with your initiative and first round actions and I will resolve both.

I am happy to declare it a draw and split the prize money, but ...

I think that a 5x5 table would give all three of you the chance to use different tactics - rather than the slug-fest engendered by a 3x3 ring.  I can 'see' tactics, based on your individual abilities, that would give all three of you a good chance of winning.

Of course, the dice roller will want to have a say in the outcome :)

However, even if we call the competition a draw, the three of you could continue with  as many 'private' duels as you wish.

Re: Fuzzy:  Duelling Challenge

You three can organise an unofficial play-off if you wish too, taking it in turns to umpire the fights and refereeing each other.

The three of you are given an extra 'prize' - a small engraved brooch, featuring a short sword surrounded by a victory wreath of feathers.

Excellent! A MW Shortsword is a slight step up from the MW Dagger I normally wield in my off-hand.

Thanks boss! I'll keep it as a token for emergency use. You never know when assassins are going to strike in the night.

That is really what I am here for. Giving the GM ideas, fearing him enacting them and then breathing a sigh of relief when he pulls some other shenanigans :)

Please don't! There are others in your group made of less sterner stuff!  ;)

You should note that Rana's player has played in my games previously  :)

I would also advise you never tell her that a tree is creeping up on her  :)

Trees are evil ... very very evil!  I say burn them all - or cut them all down, either works, but make sure you are never surrounded by trees!

Thanks to Lord Henry for staging the tourney and the gift.

Rana do you really think Cyrus is the only one with assassins chasing them?

Cyrus shouldn't have any assassins chasing him. He's done nothing to make anyone so mad at him, yet...

Rana doesn't think that anyone has assassins chasing them! She is very naive about this type of thing and is hopefully well away from any "assassin-magnets"!
