Cyrus had barely dropped his own tunic, the signal to begin when Adoven readied his magical protection. Domitius struck a second later and despite his opponents preparation the blow struck true and hard. If the blade had been Domitius’s own, Adoven would have a nasty cut, and as it was it was bound to leave him sore and bruised.

OOC: Dom hits Adoven for 14 HP (half lethal, half non-lethal). You are up again for your next round actions.

Adoven uses nimbleness and his mystic Shield to avoid further strikes. He stabs with both rapier and dagger, charging each strike with a portion of his magic.

The combatants rain down quick blows on each other. Adoven is clearly wounded but is lashing out with a newfound fury. Dom feels the sting of Adoven’s dagger but slashes Adoven across the chest.


OOC: Adoven hits Dom with the dagger for 8 damage (4 non lethal, 4 lethal. Dom hits Adoven with his dueling sword for 13 damage (7 non lethal, 6 lethal)

Adoven finds the beat of the combat and manages to slip in thrusts from both rapier and dagger as the fight progresses.

Dom feints slightly to the right hoping to lure Adoven out of position before striking towards his opponents shoulder.

Adoven struck with two quick blows from each of the weapons he wielded leaving Dom with two new cuts, one a bit less worrisome than the other. His return blow glanced off Adoven’s magical barrier.

"Good strike, well done" Domitius said with a grunt as he took a couple more hits from Adoven

Adoven replies "thank you. And while it could be amusing", Adoven thrusts with the rapier, then withdraws the blade to a parry position, continuing "to make your grip slippery,  unable to hold your favored weapon, the point" (Adoven pauses as he thrusts the dagger in for a shallow cut), "the point of this exercise is to give myself an honest assessment of my ability in the dueling salon. I suspect my business dealings at some point will involve getting me into a duel or two."

Cyrus could see that both men were wounded badly but still both struck true. He would be surprised if this duel lasted much longer.

Adoven is breathing hard as he thrusts with his rapier. His dagger stabs in but meets empty air.

Domitius panting heavily adjusts his footing before attempting the Baron's Gambit move, knowing if he can pull the tricky series of blows off he stands a good chance of winning the duel.

Cyrus stood in amazement at the two warriors as they traded wicked blows. Adoven nearly took out Domitius but with a last gasp the sword lord struck true in a way even he hadn’t expected knocking Adoven to the ground where he lay unconscious.

Cyrus rushed to check that Adoven was ok, but as soon as he saw him breathing, Cyrus declared Dom the winner.

OOC: Wow, with a single HP left, Dom rolled a crit to take Adoven out. That was an awesome fight and it really came down to a single HP.

Seeing Adoven fall and Domitius look his way Thaddeus rushed to the fallen duelist and called upon the blessings of Iomedae to heal him.

"Well fought Lord Adoven, I thought you had me at the end there." Domitius said as Adoven rose to his feet.  "I look forward to our next bout." and offered him his hand.

Adoven takes the proffered hand as he rises, and casts a Cure Light Wounds on himself. He adds "I thank you for an excellent match. The Shield helps, but it seems that penetration power and durability are bigger factors. Something to study on if I find myself in a formal duel." He does not add that curing himself mid-duel was an option he had...such was self-evident.

Everyone is on full health, fully spelled up  etc etc .

"Lord Cyrus I have been looking forward to this bout, though having watched me fight I think you may have the advantage of me.  Lord Adoven my thanks in advance for umpiring this bout." Dom shakes both mens hands and takes a dueling sword from the wall.

Cyrus bowed his head in return and said, “Being a spectator only gave me a healthy appreciation for your skill. I would wish you the best, but I would prefer to win.” He winked at his opponent before readying his own blade and buckler.
