But I'm not going to ask you to spend too much time on something like this. Go ahead and simplify it if that reduces ongoing workload. I don't know how you manage to do what you already do here, and it keeps growing all the time.

Hasn't our DM retired recently?  Perhaps he had to so he could work on his game? :)

Re: OOC 4

Hmm.  I am struggling to work out a solution for this issue with the description pages.  As settlements have proliferated and grown, maintaining the descriptions has become a major undertaking.

After I retired, I was tied to the house by the UK lockdown regulations, and after we were 'freed' again, many of the activities that I had planned had become more difficult (or expensive)  or disappeared completely.  However, now I am starting to rebuild a life outside the house ...  But

I think that information is important for you guys to have access to.  There is so much going on, you can't plan, or even get an overview, of the game world without it.  The small towns and villages aren't a problem.  But the larger towns and cities (Tusk, Newgate, Wyvern Bridge, New Dawn, Ringbridge etc)  are a real pain!  To the extent that I start looking at them, then just stop and start something else.

I am tempted by detail for the smaller settlements -  and a district by district overview for larger settlements.  I publish all the financial spreadsheets, which contain basic details of every development in every settlement, and that information will remain.  As you have probably realized, I work on those spreadsheets for weeks - by the time I get to descriptions, my enthusiasm is waning :)

I have also noticed that I have let a couple of the 'Overview' pages slip -  so I might work on those first, and see how I feel when they are completed.  Once they are up-to-date, they might provide a different way of looking at the game world.

BTW, I updated the Trade Routes page earlier today.

Re: OOC 4

You already have each district described on the details page. Would it help to just list the statistics at the bottom of each district? That way, once a district is full, it needs no more attention? Then you would only need a spreadsheet for each update during campaign rounds. Fewer things to deal with on each spreadsheet.

Each character would be responsible for listing their own properties and statistics on the personal information thread, with any sensitive information (such as total BPs) hidden in a secret line to the DM.

You could farm it out to some of us and then overview it, just to make sure we aren't adding adamantite walls or something :)

Re: OOC 4

I have made a decision -  that the description pages will change to a Visitor's Guide style entry.  Although that will happen slowly, and as I have time for it - rather than something that I need to do now.

I was talking to my wife, yesterday evening, and at one point I said -  this is starting to feel more like work than a game. I am spending time (lots of time)  describing towns, when I could be collaborating with players and writing new stuff!  Overnight, that percolated around, and the Visitor's Guide thing came out as a decision.  I have been working on the spreadsheets for a couple of years -  stream lining  and automating as much as I can, to reduce that workload -  now it is time for the descriptions page to suffer the same fate.

While I probably haven't said it for a while - players have always been welcome to write their own descriptions  :)  So write away -  Just remember that I will read them, and retain editorial power ...

As an aside. This game has been running for seven years (nearly)  the first post (that I can find)  was in March 2016 - so we have a birthday coming up!  World building started before the game  :)  Since the game started, the world and campaign system has grown massively - much in collaboration with players, and quite a lot more coming from seeds coming from player comments / observations.   That is the part of the game I love -  But I am not all that much of a writer (or at least I don't much pleasure from writing up details and descriptions)  :)

Re: OOC 4

I have updated the Religious Coverage page (linked from the main Southern Region page) in an easier to maintain style - it has less specific information, but that is still contained within the various financial spreadsheets.

Now I have stopped stressing about descriptions, and given myself time to play .....

I have just updated the Group 0 map with regional labels, which might make it easier to get your head around the structure of Southern Region.

Re: OOC 4

Cass, I write the descriptions from the spreadsheets (for buildings) and the maps (for location).  Please feel free to write up any of the descriptions that you fancy.  I try to add a few key bits of ownership information, to emphasize key ownership etc. I might add a bit of 'Political Overview' to some of them -  but that is all.  There is a date on most pages, showing when they were last worked on -  so it is easy to find the ones I haven't done this year.

The same is true for anyone else who fancies writing up a description or two  :)

I did Sirian last night and that, along with Silverton, are the sort of level I have been working to.  BUT -  I am happy with other people interpretations as well.

Or, of course, to rewrite any of the older format ones.

Might be a good idea to let us all know, here, if you do start on one -  that might well stop duplication of effort  :)

And onto the fun (for me) stuff.  Just updated the Business, Organisations and Houses thread.

If you think your business, organisation or house should be included in the overview (below the spreadsheet links)  let me know.

Re: OOC 4

More fun, generated (in part) by the campaign round - and partly by the interest in the wider world.  The following just lists the various States & Provinces of Brevoy by area.  These all claim some level of autonomy -  if you want to calculate the size of your own estates -  1 Hex is (roughly) 150 square miles.

NOTE-1:  This is the area claimed -   it doesn't all contain cities, or even towns.  Some areas will be complete wilderness, and many smaller holdings aren't listed.

Note-2: House Surtova claims New Steven, as well as their ancestral lands.

On the group 0 map what counts as explored in the east?  I.e. the Nomen Plains area, the mountains etc.

In reply to Domitius Aldori-Solanus (msg # 452):

The group that Andalon was with went from Varnhold east-southeast to the Nomen campsite (between hexes 11 and 12), then south-southwest into the valley between hexes 21 and 22. At the southern end of that valley we climbed a trail up into the mountains where we found the lich's tomb in an island in a deep river canyon. At least, I think that's where we were on the map, but I could be mistaken.  ;o)

I think the labels on the map north and east of Varnhold (Spider Men, Spider Fields, Blood Furrows, Nomen, Burial Mounds) were just transcribed from a map we found in Varnhold, not places we visited ourselves (although that did lead us to the Nomen camp).

Re: OOC 4

That is all accurate.   However, you were travelling through those hexes, intent on a final destination, and did not tarry to explore them.

As Anadalon says, names were transcribed from a map the characters found.

Re: OOC 4

I feel like I have been ignoring you, a bit, this week.  I've had a cold, which has left me feeling a bit muzzy, so I decided to work on something for my new setting -  where I can take it slowly and edit over and over again.  So here is something on Orcs ...

http://galinia.org.uk/wp-admin...=498&action=edit

Now I need to get on with some IT stuff!  To start with, I need to add two-factor identification to the blog.  It gets 2-300 hack attacks a day.  While I have some protections on it, I am getting fed up with all the notification emails I am getting.

And then there is my new (refurbished) laptop -   I have done the basic build, but it still needs configuring to the way I like my computers!
