I was thinking of ways I could use alchemy and I thought maybe starting up some tobacco blends that could be sold at Oleg's.

When Fiddler brought up a tobacconist it struck an old memory, a conversation I had in PM with the DM, lol.

Yep, I'd be into making some alchemic cigarettes-- she already uses whisky (and sometimes lamp oil when times are tough) for her healing potions.

What would that be mechanically? A workshop? And would we need a farm to supply the “product”?

What do you think of “A Leaf of Faith” for a name?

Like Mr. Fiddler, Safiya is also unlikely to start building just yet, she needs more time to take a look around and meet people before it would make sense for her to begin. So, her 1 BP is up for a loan, though I do have long term plans and would need it back the next turn so I can start on them before someone beats me to it.

Re: Character Updates
I'm also trying to decide what Rose would do. Magic & academics is where her interests lie, but most of those are expensive and might not have a place here until it is slightly more developed.

Would an "Office" structure offering basic magic & scribe services be reasonable? I thought about a scroll shop but since even the most basic level 0 spell scrolls cost 12.5gp, that seemed a bit excessive for a frontier town.

I think  that would be highly appropriate  :)

And it has made me realise that I haven't  got a specific 'buildings set'  for anything like that - and there isn't even an option for a Caster's Tower.  Jahi would be very disappointed with me!

I'll try to add an appropriate building set over the weekend.  If I don't do it -  remind me  :)

But I need to get all the threads updated, a wedding party thread started and the adventure threads ready.  I assume everyone is ready for both a party and a bit of adventure?

Re: Character Updates
So how does one kick off an adventure? Is the DM going to tap us or should I start hanging fliers around town asking for stout swords to go exploring?

I know he had posted the groupings earlier but I don't know how newcomers are going to be looped into things. So far it seems most of the existing players are busy handling their own properties and I'm not seeing a clean way to just insert myself into their business without coming off as even more annoying than intended :P

Re: Character Updates
I haven't explained things as well as I had hoped  (but then the rules/system/documentation has gone through some changes since last Campaign Round) -  I have had two people ask almost the same thing in as many days -  so here is a clarification about the way I am using the rules in this game.

Not sure how it is worded where you saw it  - but the way I have been it in this game is that everyone (who sticks around) will get 2bp as a starting pot -  but not all at the same time.  Unfortunately you newest characters don't get to play in the campaign bit at tjhe moment -  which is why I will be getting the party and adventure threads out and running soon :)

The first bp comes after the completion of the a character's first adventure thread.  The Second bp comes at the end of the second adventure thread.

There are a few reasons for this ....
  • In Game  -  The Character has done something useful and proved to Henry that they practicability and leadership potential.  The PC is then given a group of settlers to help settle down, ease into the new setting etc - and is expected to use some of that labour and skill to build something for themselves. (although that all happens in the background) Think of it as  a social reward for  your service to the New Land.  Henry doesn't give you money -  he gives you land, rights, people ...  And you (as a potential Noble, Merchant Prince, etc)  can make of that what you will.
  • In an OOC sense -  The player has shown me that they are likely to stick around for a while and will be able to fully participate in the game,
  • Challenge -  The better your strategy and tactics -  the better it will work -  and this forces you to work together IF you want to achieve something good later.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the discussions in Tusk this time around.

Yep -  probably coming up this weekend -  as I set up a thread for each of the groups, I posted early -  hand out a basic assignment and give you a bit of time  in town for specific prep.

The actual adventures will kick off, while the discussions and some of the Fuzzy threads are ongoing.  In game terms there will have been a few weeks of time in Tusk - between the end of the last adventure threads and the start of the new ones.  It isn't 'down time' as such (and I don't use the downtime rules) because Henry is putting you to use  organising settlers, immigrants and refugees or carrying out patrols with the local guards, just to make sure everything is extra safe and secure ...

It is normally 'Level Up Time' so also gives you time to RP/justify any training, new skills etc  (Yeah, I know it isn't in the rules -  but I (personally) miss some of the old RP hooks that were around in the early days, that have been dropped with newer versions)

Happy belated 4th for any of my American friends, and happy 'hooray, we got rid of them!' day to all my British friends ;)

Took the kids to the beach to see fireworks for the first time, but I'm reading up now. Hope all is well with everyone else.

Hope they enjoyed the fireworks.  And a belated  4th July to all of our US players.  I took my wife (who is American) out to an American diner in recognition of the day.  They had run out of burgers!

In the interim - I have added some heraldry .....

Re: Character Updates
Absolutely! What does the star rating system mean for a business? Does that mean it can double as a "Nice accommodation"? Or that it is a quality business?

Re: Character Updates
The star rating refers to the quality of accommodation that the building provides for the owner, either in the building or a house attached to the business. There is a 'Residential Classifications' link at the bottom of that page for more information about that.

Whew.  I think I am up to speed with everything I need to respond to.  If you still have something outstanding that needs a response from me -  then tell me.

My next tasks (in no particular order) are ...

  • Re-write the merchant rules so that they reflect my intent a bit more clearly.
  • Incorporate magical Businesses properly
  • Restructure the Businesses section to make it easier for you guys to work with
  • Check Character sheets to make sure that they have all been levelled up and that they are within the rules  :p  (Yeah, I do it occasionally)
  • Finances spreadsheets for strongholds, businesses and individulals

Re: Character Updates
And the next reminder  :)  (already!)    I am on a roll this week.  Hectic week at work last week and more busy to come-  so a quiet weekend with my head stuck in a computer with my games.  Yeah!  I'm sad  :)

I have seen a lot of PCs talking IC about their plans for the future.  If you are serious about those plans, boil them down to the pertinent facts (bullet points are great) and send them to me as a PM.   I will put them in the Player Information thread link to a message in this game

I read through that every so often when I am thinking about game direction and working out what new material to introduce.  No promises, but greater chances.

If you already have an entry in that thread -  you can update it, If I have it wrong or your character's personal story arc goals have changed.

Does this iteration of the adventure path include ‘charter’ from the Sword Lords of Restov? What is the legal basis of our development of the ‘Stolen Lands’? I ask so that I can better respond to Andalon’s question in the development thread.

Re: Character Updates
Henry holds a Charter to build a colony to the South of Brevoy  - in the area between the Swamp and the Tors.  You do this under the authority of Brevoy :)  There are other charters to do something similar issued to Var, Drelev and the Wraiths.

As Governor of this new Brevic Colony, Henry has authority to grant both land and Brevic titles (up to a set level)

Does that help?
