In reply to Pipre (msg # 59):

Its a great Class, but they gave it too many abilities for my tastes. Personally, I would prefer it to have more magical abilities, and no bombs, mutagens or armor.

Re: OOC

In reply to Cyrus Ondari (msg # 64):

Not one that I found. I could probably come up with something maybe using a Wizard as base, but I would not get the Int bonus to splash weapons and some of the other things. This is almost begs for a smorgasbord class system.

I don't know.  And that would be the problem :P  Mind you, we might find out at some point - I am a sucker for that sort of thing.

Re: OOC

I like classes with a central mechanic that things build on. Bombs, eidolon, swords. Mutagens seem fiddly and pathfinder stacking multiple short duration buffs is annoying.

Throwing bombs and making alchemical stuff are the selling points for me.

Re: OOC

In reply to Pipre (msg # 67):

Since we really talking about it, why bombs? They are already giving a damage boost to alchemical weapons, heck an alchemist even has a damage bonus to Holy Water of all things?

I see four core mechanics in Alchemist class bombs/armor/3/4 progression, mutagent, alchemy/Poison and spellcasting/potion brewing. Its like they did not know which way to go and gave the class everything.

Re: OOC

In reply to Cyrus Ondari (msg # 64):

Vivisectionist or Reanimator plus Mindchemist or Inspired Chemist gets you close . . . but that's less a wizard with alchemy and more someone who does really evil things and either enhances the mind or gains investigator abilities. And the armour is still there.

As to why bombs, the answer is likely they wanted a class with a unique attack method to parallel the gunslinger.

Re: OOC

I am not sure that Pipre realises how fortunate she is :p  She is only the second person (ever) whom I have allowed to run an Alchemist in my games.  (and the other was my son)

I'd go for a character like Anna Fortune.

Also, Too Ugly To Live is an awesome battle cry.

Re: OOC

Group 1 -  I am going to roll that thread back to my last post.  I used the  'monster description' straight off of the website - and it has mislead you.

I will rephrase my last post and 'delete' posts after it, so that you can change your actions.

My fault for trying to be clever and not give too much away.  Instead I gave too little away.

Still may do! Andalon doesn't have any knowledge nature skill nor any experience fighting a swarm of bugs. He is about to get some.  ;o)

Re: OOC

In reply to DM (msg # 81):

That is why all of my characters tend to carry Acid or Alchemical Fire. There is a rule in D&D3.5 that allows torches to do 1d4.

Failing those, or spells like Burning Hands, you pray for an evil cleric or run like hell.

Re: OOC

Oh great :)

Well Cyrus will have to pick up a bottle of alchemical fire soon and here I was plotting about getting a warhammer...
