Cyrus Ondari has been appointed Master of Ringbridge with a remit to build a settlement that can defend the bridge across the Shrike River.  He and his wife control development in that Hex.

Cyrus's troops can patrol the lighter outer ring - so they are available for development.  Those hex's are still under Henry's control, but will not be developed without consultation with Cyrus and Val.

This is an In Character thread.

Cyrus had spoken to many over their journey back out to Midmarch, taking the opportunity one night around the fire to offer the following encouragement, "Henry has honored Valoria and I greatly in the gift of our home and I want to extend that opportunity to any of the Officers. Come, settle or build in Ringbridge. Vik, Adoven, establishing a jetty in Ringbridge and opening up trade between our two settlements will only allow our people to thrive. Percy, it is good to see you out here once more, I would be remiss if I didn't extend the invitation to you as well. A caravan hub would also make a nice addition. Lex, I'd love to have my men outfitted with bows and arrows made by your hand. Mariam, Marik, Jicca, Tansy. You are all welcome in Ringbridge anytime."

He paused and added, "Though I would never pressure any of you to, of course."

OOC: Please feel free to invest in Ringbridge. I will work with any and all on making it worth your while :).

"With Lady Valoria's kind offer of financial backing, my partner and I feel we can establish a water-borne trade betwixt Tusk City and Ringbridge, building Jetties in both settlements. We hope to have her fully paid off within a year, with interest. We will need craftsmen, but that should not be a problem" Adoven declares.

"My goal to build a proper inn at Ringbridge seems like a matter of expanding as resources provide themselves," Cass added. "With that in mind, I would like to begin the project by starting with a tavern as basis as soon as possible. A restaurant might serve nearly as well, but a tavern is always good for local morale."

Cyrus nodded to Adoven and Cass, "Indeed! Both plans sound grand to me!" Turning then to Adoven, "Your business partner has been a dear friend, it is the least we can do to invest in your future prosperity and I daresay our own!"

Cyrus turned then to Cass, "And I can only imagine the benefits of your touch on Ringbridge. I know your tavern and eventual Inn will help attract the best and brightest to our growing settlement."

Finally, to Gandred he says, "I think we might have a surprise for you dwarf, in addition to overseeing our more utilitarian interests, The Lady Valoria and I have decided a chapel to Torag would be a most welcome addition to Ringbridge. You may not know this, but this place forged my commitment to Henry and to my allies and I think it only fitting that we honor the forge father here in Ringbridge. Will you oversee that development and ensure all is prepared to honor Torag appropriately?"

In reply to Adoven (msg # 3):

Valoria puts a friendly hand on Adoven's shoulder. "Yes indeed, Viktoria is a very good friend of mine and I wish for nothing more than to see the two of you succeed. Besides, the Jetty that will be built we be a boon to the people who live here and add a little increase in tax revenue. I will just need repayment as soon as you are able, as we have our own projects to advance. We will both go far helping each other."

"Cass, your tavern will be a welcome sight to all who live and visit. Good food, good drink and merriment."

Having some of the better wine passed out, Valoria lifts her glass to the made plans. "To our health and prosperity."

Cass accepted the wine with a gracious nod and lifted his glass along with the toast as well. "To our health and prosperity."

The bard become businessman had listened to the plans that the others were proposing and he was glad that each venture was starting off so well.

"A Symphony of Swans should reach Road House status as soon as the overnight guest quarters can be added on to the tavern. It will start to look like a proper inn from on that point on. And hopefully it will become a beacon of hospitality in Ringbridge."

Cass felt it might be a good idea to divulge some more of his plans. "I also have hopes that a promising young merchant will join me in business and act in my stead while I am tasked with my other official duties as an officer of Midmarch. Hospitality and entertainment will be the primary focus, but I do believe that there may be other business ventures in Ringbridge that I can help bring to fruition. With the careful guidance of the Lord and Lady Lebeda-Ondari, of course."

Valoria lifted her glass to Cass again once she heard the name of the inn. “A Symphony of Swans?...What a great name. The swan is the symbol of house Lebeda, sir you do me much honor.”

Wilbur makes notes as people speak.

Gehron entered, not generally comfortable or skilled at putting his point across, but if he was going to come to these new lands, he wanted to make his mark, as well as have something to do.

"I would like to propose two... establishments. Whilst drinks can be had at The Swan, there are other ways that we can all be entertained, without having to go to Tusk. The first is somewhere for games of chance, cards, dice. Better all in one place, than scattered at the back of taverns or folks homes. The other is where people can go and get their rocks off. No-one likes tetchy guards, and if that builds up, well it can get ugly."

"One could always be done. But if people are going to explore their carnal urges, at least it can be done in one place, and those who might be offended could simply avoid it, instead of wondering what is happening in alleys or their neighbour's home. Gambling will always be a fun option however."

Val's eyes open wide, "It will not be happening in alleyways in MY town!  This is going to be a nice, proper town! A gambling den is bad enough, but I will not have a House of Fornication!"

"We have decide on the immediate development plans for Ringbridge," Cyrus says glancing across at his wife.  "Lord Henry is going to build a Serai that will help link our trade to Restov, while Torag's House will be rewarded with new accommodation for the priests.   We have decide to decided to build a small wall around the town, that will keep  the local wildlife out and make it easier to control intruders, and to build a public bath, to help maintain hygiene and cleanliness withing the town.

We have also started to build a watchtower down by the bridge, to be known as Bastion, which help fulfill our commitment to guard the only real crossing point on the Shrike."

New Kingdom Round

Cyrus clears his throat and looks across at his wife before speaking, Ringbridge is ready for further development - while we are open to all suggestions we would be most interested to hear suggestions relating to matters military or Arcane.

"If planning permits," Cass began. "I would like to take this time to upgrade the Swans to a proper inn."

"An Inn? That is very attractive, but I am not sure the town is ready for that yet.  It would  attract an awful lot of new people very quickly ...." Valoria responds quickly

"I have had communication from my superior. We wish to eventually expand the V&A holdings here to include a Merchant House and a Warehouse for trade. Perhaps starting as early as three months from now (1 kingdom turn). What restrictions or tradeoffs would you expect for such expansion?"

"That would be a welcome addition to the town." Valoria agrees, smiling across at Robert.  "The extra population and business it attracts would help the town out greatly.  However, the more people there are the better the facilities they expect in the town.  So a donation towards developing a civic building would be most appreciated.  However, the town is growing so fast we aren't quite sure  where we will be by the time that spring rolls around ..."

Tib rocks back in his chair and runs his fingers through his hair.  "Lord Henry asked me to drop by and tell you that he is signing over control of his Serai, here in Ringbridge, to Domitius.  He doesn't want you to think he is abandoning the town, but  his business priorities have changed slightly over the last few weeks.  He  has asked me to say that, as Governor,  he will continue to monitor and support the town as best he can."

Tib stands, and with a by-your-leave to Cyrus and Valoria draws a document from his jacket.  ”Lord Henry has asked me to make an announcement on his behalf.” looking down he starts to read  …

”After careful consideration of my Charter Duties to protect the southern border of Brevoy, I have decided on a slightly different strategy for Midmarch.  From now on, I am going to concentrate my efforts on establishing a new ‘South Road, that runs from Varnhold, east across Midmarch until it reaches the East Sellen river.  From there we will be able to forge trading routes with New Stetven, Drelev and beyond into Pitax. That will complement the other trading routes that we have established to Restov and Mivon – although there is no reason why they can’t be developed further.

To this end, I will not be sending any more expiratory groups south of tusk.  Come springtime, I will send trade envoys east to Varhnold, and send a group to explore the area weat of Oleg’s.  A third group will continue our work in the Narlemach, after all we don’t want any more surprises such as groups of Gnome eating Kobolds on our borders.

That doesn’t mean that any of you are banned from  working in the southern hills, just that my focus will be elsewhere.”

With that, he sits down and surveys the room, looking at the expressions on people’s faces.

Cyrus looks across at Valoria "What a wonderful opportunity for Ringbridge ..." he enthuses.

"Ahem." Kendrick waited until he got everyone's attention. <blue>"I am pleased to announce a partnership between Domitius and I. We have formed the Winters Sun Merchants, WSM. The WSM will take formal ownership of the Serai and purchase a Mule Train. This will allow for immediate transportation of goods to the regions that was just announced.

"Once we have established trade routes between towns within Middlemarch we intend to strengthen it's military and Ringbridge seems to be an excellent place to start." Domitius adds.

Rose speaks up from the back of the room, although there is a note of certainty in her voice  "I was hoping to build a magical supplies shop here ...  But if Mr Mordane is .... ".  Her voice trails off as she sits back down again.

"I will defer building such a shop to you." Cass said to Rose with a smile and a slight nod. "My musings on developments were only to aid Ringbridge in its expansion, but I understand there are different challenges here. It looks like things are well under control and I can continue to focus ventures in Tusk Town for the moment. I am very excited by the opportunities for each of you. Let us celebrate them with a drink sometime."

"Rose, what sort of products are you looking tosell in your shop?  General merchandise or specialising in something specific." Domitius asked his former travelling companion with a warm smile.  In many ways she reminded him of his sister back home in Restov.

The mage almost blushes as she becomes the centre of attention, and replies softly,  "Oh Nothing special, just a shop selling components for casters of all sorts.  There doesn't seem to be anything like that here.  Eventually, I hope to expand to providing magical service, and eventually to making small magical items.  You neve r know ..."

These were introduced some time ago, when Rose's original player asked about a 'magical business' progression set.

Valoria takes notes as the discussion continue around her.

"So far I have noted that Lord Henry is passing his Serai on to Domitius, and that Rose wants to start a business here selling magical supplies.  Further more I have been informed that Quinn wishes to build a tailors shop here, with the eventual aim of creating magical clothing."

Resting her hand on her extended belly^*, she asks - "Anything else?  If not, I think we can support those developments ..."


(*) - Valoria is, as they say, great with child.

"Yes." Kendrick stepped forward. "I'd like to build a shop. Winters Wares and Spices is expanding to Ringbridge, if it pleases you. Our shop in Tusk Town was received quite well. Seems that the spices really added to the meals at the Dragons Den."

"Excellent." Valoria responds to Kendrick's comments. "Will you be contributing something towards Ringbridge's infrastructure now?  Or in the future?"

Unless anyone wants to add something else to this, I will treat this discussion as closed for this round.

Kendrick bows at the suggested donation for the development of Ringbridge.

Valoria nods her thanks.

What are Ringbridge's projections of Economy/Loyalty/Stability this turn? Due to a late bid by Percy, V&A suddenly has the resources to create a Town base in Ringbridge this turn if it can be done without upsetting the balance.

OOC:  Tight.  I need to work through an awful lot on my speadsheets.

Ooc: Okay, I won't upset the balance this turn. But I WILL need those numbers next turn.

OOC: By the start of next turn, I will have all the spreadsheets up-to-date  :)  and we will be starting from a base figure again.

Having  watched his wife conduct most of the negotiations, Cyrus rises and clears his throat.

"With Kendrick's kind contribution we have decided to build an orphanage here in Ringbridge.  We have seen street urchins, in  both New Steven and Restov, and have both felt sympathy for them.  We would like Ringbridge to be known for compassion and for caring for all of its citizens -  including the youngest and smallest who cannot properly fend for themselves."

New Turn

An older gentleman with a familiar bearing makes an appearance before Cyrus and his wife. "Good day to you, milord. I am Tobias Lodkova,  representing V&A. Adoven is in the midst of negotiations to create a trade route along this river from Tusk to Restov and back. We feel it would aid the local economy if our facilities here could be expanded to handle larger trade vessels, and giving Ringbridge a trade route to Restov in the bargain." Tobias is a well-dressed businessman who seems to know his Profession well.

Val smiles at the newcomer.  "Oh?  What do you have in mind?"

Tobias bows his head briefly. "We wish permission to create a warehouse and Merchant house to handle increased traffic at the jetty. My principal is prepared to see to the construction of a Courthouse in exchange for these permissions. And as Adoven's Sword school grows in popularity, he hopes to add a Chapter of that School in Ringbridge, although that may be about a year down the line."

"We would, of course be happy to accommodate such a development by V&a shipping.  And I am sure that Cyrus will be pleased to site your sword-school down by the bastion.  He is hoping to develop that as a centre of excellence for martial students." Valoria responds in a soft voice.

"If it pleases I would like to build a stonemasons workshop, here in Ringbridge. With the increasing levels of development across the March good quality stone is in increasing demand.  I do intend to bring in master craftsmen as soon as possible, those with experience in building fortifications as well as more ornate stone work.

"And Lord Henry would like to develop a local market here, which he thinks would help  the local people sell their goods and share in the economic bonanza."

"Domitius we would be pleased to have your stonemasons here in Ringbridge.  Tib, please pass our thanks on to Lord Henry, and  we look forward to enjoying local produce shortly."

"My thanks Lord Cyrus, I have already sent for a suitable manager to look after the business whilst I am away exploring for lord Henry.  Hargrym Of clan Silverhammer, he should be arriving any day now."
