Fuzzy:  General Midmarch Development

"At the moment, I'm hoping to merely establish a village at the waterfall, from there it should be possible to move cargo to and from Restov on the river. I do have some thoughts on doing the same further downstream, under the cascade, and some day build the canals needed to to make Shrike fully navigable. But all that is in a distant future." Safiya replies to Kendrick, trying to keep her voice down as to not to prove a distraction at the meeting. "You are welcome to join us on our journey there, though at the moment there is little enough to see there. And what of you? What are your plans in these lands?"

DM:
"I have decided to build a local market at Outpost,  which may encourage more farms  and ranches to the area, and Marik has volunteered to secure the Kobold Warren in the Narlmarch, to ensure that none of those kobolds return."

Marik nods to Henry, "Yes, I will be funding the building of a watchtower immediately to help secure the area. Then I intend to expand the watchtower to include living quarters to enable my associates to manage the building of a mine to take advantage of the mineral resources that were found there."

Re: Fuzzy:  General Midmarch Development

Zelona looked to Marik and Lord Henry, "my Lord, I want to make sure as we talk of establishing mining within the Narlmarch we also consider our goal of keeping the Narlmarch as a nature preserve. Mining is a dangerous proposition to the surrounding lands. I also worry how the Fey in the Narlmarch may take such endeavors."

She smiled at Marik, "I am not arguing against your effort, only that we ensure whatever you build there impacts the forest the least so we don't encounter other ramifications down the road, but also keep with the Lord's stated goal of keeping the Narlmarch as a natural reserve for Midmarch."

Re: Fuzzy:  General Midmarch Development

"It is certainly my intention to retain the northern portion of the Narlemarch as a Nature Reserve, free from  intrusive developments of all sorts, which is why it is under the protection of both Erastil and the  Green Faith.  However, as we move further south, we will have to work within the forest.  We need wood for our buildings and fires, Oak bark for tanning and, I suspect, other items that can only be found in the forests.  I would rather that was done by people who live in forest villages and towns rather than logging syndicates or 'Town' businesses."

He shrugs his shoulders slightly.  "There must always be compromises ..."

Zelona, conscious of Svetlana's protective streak, does her best to not smile at Oleg when she pulls him aside for continued business. "Since things have gone so well for the past couple of months, are you still game to keep our previous plans intact?"

Oleg glances across at Svetlana, who nods her agreement to the arrangement.  "Of course." he says gruffly.

Marik nods to those assembled, "as I mentioned last season, my intent is to develop a mining village around the kobold warren at the edge of the Narlemarch. Last season we secured the area, clearing out the last traces of the kobolds and established an outpost to maintain security. With the snow thawing, we are prepared to continue with our plans. This season I will be expanding the outpost to a fortified villa to allow my mining foreman, Valgard Bouldershoulder, to have a place to live and work out of, and we will build out the entrance of the mine and begin operations there. We have chosen the name Iron Keep for this endeavor and hope to see the fruits of our labor in the near future."

Henry nods as Marik confirms his plans.

Then he ushers a dwarf forwards, "Lutz?  This is Marik, the man I told you about.  Marik, this is Lutz.  He is a priest of Torag and  wants somewhere to settle, and I thought  that you might be willing to let him build his house at Iron keep?"

Marik nods, "Lutz, it's a pleasure to meet you. Yes, I think a house of Torag would be an auspicious addition to our small mining community, and I'm sure Valgard will appreciate a place for him to worship. We have a load of supplies going out in a couple of days if you'd like to accompany it and survey the area for the best location?""

Re: Fuzzy:  General Midmarch Development

After looking around the room again, Henry leans forwards and rests his hands on the table.  "My Train Masters have reported that they have to camp out in the wilds when they are running the route from Ringbridge to Tusk.  No one has come forwards to build anything on that route, so I have been considering bulding a village there, myself."

Again he looks around the room, to see if anyone wants to speak up and volunteer their service.

Cass has accepted Henry's offer to build a settlement in the bridge hex. A watchtower will be built in the area this turn to begin. The new settlement will be known as Silverton.

Re: Fuzzy:  General Midmarch Development

Henry nods as Cass  speaks, but responds to Kendrick.  "Cass will take responsibility for this particular village, but there will be other opportunities soon.  As we open the trade route to Varnhold, we will need a stronger settlement to protect our merchant trade, in what is currently untamed lands.  And then, later, there will be opportunities in West Midmarch, as we drive a new road through the pains and towards the river.  Hopefully, we will find new people, as dedicated as yourself and Cass, who will build a new town for us on the East Sellen."

Adoven makes an appearance at the meeting. "Miss Safiya and I are putting together a joint venture to establish a direct trade route from Tusk to Restov, using her villages at Fey falls and Cascade to facilitate the transfer of goods. If I can expand my base at Ringbridge to handle large amounts of Goods, we can get benefits to that city from increased trade as well."

"However, I have decided to encourage farming at Outpost, and will fund the development of farms in the area. Furthermore, Oleg, Svetlana and Fiddler  have decided to follow Tusk and Ringbridge in building an orphanage, in support of  children from the surrounding countryside, and will build a mill in support of the local farms."

Beekeeping on some of those farms would be welcome. Many recipes call for honey. Or maybe we could get sugar from beets.
