Ah.  I was spoiled by  NWNs persistent worlds  :(  The whole family played together as a party -  and built worlds together as a team ....

Building NWN worlds actually took me away from RPoL for about three years ....

I'm nearing the end of Chapter 2 but I've encountered some fun bugs.

1) Bags of Holding and the ring that increases the # of channels per day aren't resetting correctly so every day or every rest period it keeps adding to the previous total.

So now I can carry something like ~4,000 lbs and can channel positive energy 31 times per day!!!

2) Harrim keeps killing himself. I gave him a magical club that allows him to cast vampiric touch on a crit with the caveat that if you remove it, it casts finger of death on you.

I removed it AGES ago and had to resurrect him but the curse is still active. Every time he crits he still hits the target with vampiric touch and now he continually loses health whenever I skip ahead. It's really annoying because every 14 days I have to take him out so he can heal himself.

I like to imagine that he keeps attempting/committing suicide but in all seriousness it's a super annoying bug because I had him as m high priest and lost 100 BP when he died in the middle of a project :(

Sounds like the curse is strong. Only remove with a remove curse spell. LOL

Yeah, I heard they managed to introduce a nasty bug that keeps adding bonuses every time you load a game. I haven't run into it myself as linux version of the game is two versions behind the rest. Hopefully they'll fix it fast if they did not already.

I liked NWN 1, but found the expansions a bit of a let down and went off it a bit so never tried NWN 2 (might have to give it a go now) ... but what are these "persistent worlds" that you speak of, you who are so wise in the ways of science ?  ;>

I never liked NWN 2 -  it changed the interface and got all fancy in the way it did things, and made world building much more difficult.

NWN 1 came packaged with  some world building software.  You  could design your own map areas, place treasures, build NPCs, write conversations and write environment affecting scripts - so basically, you could build your own game world.

The big problem was that when the character left - everything reset and they started again.  Until a couple of bright sparks found ways to save the information within the game.  This meant that when the character rejoined they could have exactly the same experience, equipment, location  (etc) as when they left.    The most sophisticated way used a MySQL database, less sophisticated systems used variables on a Character 'skin' - both worked.

Then you could share them on the internet, and invite players to join through an interface built into the basic game.

I was one of the  DM/Builders on a world called Vydor (that take you from L1-L40) and wrote  most of our custom social interaction scripts.  You could get a title and all the NPCs would suddenly start calling you Sir/madam, Lord/Lady etc.  I wrote a set of scripts that changed character alignment for breaking into houses, killing NPCs, making donations to good causes, making Lawful decisions etc.    I also wrote a series of adventure areas, built a Dwarves guild and a few other bits and bobs.  It was a nice cross between an Action World and an RP world.

I still have a PC sitting under my desk with an old NWN1 persistent world on it -  But that was only really good for levels 1-10 -  it was one of the 'projects'  that kept me amused after NWN2 came out.

I used it to teach my 13/14 year old son the basics of coding :)

I was going to post yesterday -  but I finished up almost falling asleep sat the computer ....

I am not sure which one of you I am going to blame -  But I have just discovered that there is an Enhanced version of NWN available - and apparently many of the persistent worlds are back.   Both the wife and I are currently downloading it .....

Greetings all from fire-infested California!

My apologies for the very, very long absence. However; I have finally managed to purchase a new computer and now that I have spent the last two hours setting it up, I am hoping to get back into the fray.

Luckily, we are some distance away from the current spread.

I hope everyone has been well! I missed you all and I really do apologize for the much extended retreat. Looking forward to some writing again.

I must remember never to get a new computer again!  Teething problems, along with recreating years of tweaking and setting up, and downloading all sorts of packages again, is hardly worth  the gains in speed and capacity!

All I can say is it is a damned good job I ordered the backup disk for MS Office HUP.  My employers changed my email address since I bought it and, of course, MS doesn't recognise the new one ....

Room 26 is the Kobold Nursery.  As Kendrick said - there was a lot of talk in Draconic - most of which was sort of translated :)

It  holds a 'matronly' like Kobold, who admitted to eating Gnomes, along with eggs and young kobolds.
