large is better, if you want a city base.  Basic is sufficient for a town base :)

That depends if you want to expand to a City base :)

City Base

    Minimum Requirements are
    city location
    Land: Merchant House, Large Warehouse, Caravanserai and at least two Caravans
    Water: Merchant House, Large Warehouse, Pier and at least one Trade or Merchant ship (Keeler or Sailing Barge).


If you need to buy a Keel Boat or a Sailing Barge from somewhere other than Midmarch -  there will be a premium added to the price.  In the same way as if you tried to build in Restov or Mivon.

Gwair - Sorry to hear that.  I hope it won't be too expensive  :(


All -  Henry has just made an announcement concerning the future development of Midmarch - in each of the Development threads.  I recommend that you check it out, if you aren't following  one at the moment.

In OOC  terms, it lets me move the game on a bit, and build parties that are more based on level.  It also facilitates some 'Wish List' items that a few of you have put forward.

A basic analysis of your ‘spending power’ is listed in the Player Information (Notice Thread), and I am happy to discuss options in PMs.  Sometimes I can help put the rules into perspective for you.

The options, in short, are
  • You can do nothing (awarded BPs will be deferred until you are ready to take them.  Income will be banked until later – but you get no return.
  • See if another PC wants to ‘borrow’ them -  It also means you don’t have to do much, but you might be able to charge interest.
  • Spend them on an organisation.  (schools, churches etc)  They are really easy to manage – but gives you some skin in the game.
  • Build a business – a bit more complicated - the medium effort option.
  • Build a merchant house – by far the most complicated of the business options -  but has the best returns.
  • Build a stronghold – the most complicated part of the rules – doesn’t get a great financial return -  but more complex rules to play with and earns you rank, prestige and titles more quickly.

You don't have to pin the Trade thread if you simply put all of the info into the Group T or make it Group K for Kingdom and and include Kingdom Trade as well. Then we can use the Filter on "K" and find all of the relevant threads.
