Re: OOC2

I have been reworking the large Scale influence tables.  Previously these were calculated using a few figures and a lot of guesswork.   This table is now based on the individual influence spreadsheet I drew up for Midmarch (which is needs a bit of an update -  but it won't change all that much).  Using those figures, I extrapolated values for different settlement sizes and  rural hexes - to  let me make back-of-the-envelope calculations.  They could be 10-15% out (who really knows)  but they give me some ballpark values to work on as I plan upcoming events.

The relative strengths of the houses and regions are understood by anyone with Knowledge nobility -  or can be found out by asking Brother Bart.

DO NOT take these as absolute values - rather they are ballpark numbers that let me put houses and regions in an order across the whole of Brevoy.

Your family's house, you personally (etc etc) do not feature on this list because they are not significant on a National scale.

Re: OOC2

Interesting,  I wouldn't have imagined that House Surtova had twice the influence of all of old Rostland, I always had the impression the would have been about the same as any of the other Houses slightly ahead but not double.

I certainly didn't expect Restov and Midmarch to be close let alone equal.

Plenty of food for thought there.

Re: OOC2

If you take the influence from Port Ice - Surtova are slightly ahead of the other old Brevoy families.  When you factor in the residual Rogarvian power they have absorbed when he moved to new Steven and became 'King'   it goes up  quite a lot.

Rogarvia themselves would have had most of New Stetven  (including the current independents), Sky Watch, House Khavortorov as well as a lot of Rostland under their control.  perhaps 4-5000 on that scale.  Muuch that power has been split up and spread about ...  Surtova and (perhaps) Jamandi have benefitted ...

As for Midmarch -  it has grown very, very quickly. Tusk is a small city in its own right, and Midmarch a lot of small towns.   Restov is little more than a single city state with a few rural hexes to help support it -  Tusk on steroids!  Or what Tusk will become (in a few years) if they claim a few local hexes.

Re: OOC2

Did a bit of playing - using the same set of calculations -  Surtova would have been at about 1200 influence -  before they claimed the throne and took control of The Ruby Fortress  (and gained all that influence in New Stetven and the surrounding area)

Re: OOC2

At the moment we are all living in Unusual Times. Coronavirus  has been spreading around the world much faster than anyone had predicted, and is proving harder to contain that anyone anticipated.  We are all in lock-down, stay-at-home or self-isolation - of one sort or another and it is all a bit frightening.

I am going to keep moving threads on at the standard rate, even when people aren't posting.  I'll make 'safe' assumptions and less active moves on behalf of players who can't get here (for one reason or another)  If it goes on for a lot longer, I'll reorganize parties into faster and slower paced posters.

I will shortly close down the Tusk PM threads, and fetch everyone from there home. However, I'll keep the Jovvox / Mivon thread running for another couple of months.

Keep safe  :)

Re: OOC2

There is said to be an ancient Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times."

Whether that saying is truly of Chinese origin or not, it does seem to fit the current situation.

I've heard it was ancient Greek. Either way it's sure as hell an interesting time.

I hope everyone's safe and GM thankyou for keeping things going, it's a very welcome distraction.

Re: OOC2

For all of you.

Please post a grid reference when you move.  It gets really frustrating for me when don't use the grid, as I have to try to guess where you want your character to be.

It can take a long time to get the grid scales onto maps from scenarios.  Some maps I have to go through and delete existing grids and clean by hand -  for others it can be a real problem getting the letters/numbers at the right scale for existing grids ...

A few I can just slap my standard grid over the top and scale -  but those are few and far between!

Hey all, my apologies for being silent recently. Current events have made things a little stressful, but things have basically moved to a "new normal"so I think I can safely get back to a regular posting pattern.

Will try to start getting caught up.

Re: OOC2

Hi Guys.  It feels like I am making updates I strange orders and slowly, at the moment -  but my eyes are constantly tired, and it can be difficult to work on the PC sometimes.  I guess that this is an issue with working at home.  All of my learner visits, teams meetings etc are now carried out at my computer - and it is starting to take a toll.

I know what you mean. For the last fortnight I have been working from home too. Spending all day in the office on the computer, then coming home and relaxing online doesn't work quite as well when you're still in the same chair at the same desk staring at the same computer.

No problem, Mikki. Sometimes a simple typo can lead to some glorious role-playing opportunities, if we run with it.  :o)

Re: OOC2

We seem to have lost a number of people recently - we were running light (across the game) before the international lock-downs came into place, and it has got worse.  I intend to rearrange active characters into two groups and put all the inactive characters into a 'stay at home' group.

Hopefully that will give us two stable playing groups to see us through the next two or three months -  and we just have to hope the situation has stabilized by then.

I have a good friend who's a good player. I could point him this way if you're interested in having someone come on board while we're all still out? Or if you're not interested in adding anyone right now. Let me know

Re: OOC2

Thanks for the thought, but I don't think I am going to take any new players at present.

As it stands, I can make two sensible adventuring groups - one group dealing with Varnhold and a second group in the Narlemarch.  The non-active players will stay in game, hanging around in  Tusk, so that I can move them out to the active groups, if they should return later.

Does that mean I'm in the not so sensible group? Hmmm.... ;)

Apologies for my absence, delay, and that issue with the petticoats. I think I am back to fully active again, but I understand if I need to go into quarantine in game.
