Re: OOC2

Now it is spring and the weather is getting warmer, an old man's thoughts turn to 'settlements' in an FRPG setting.  TBH, that is how I know I am getting old.

However, my blog now has a post on settlements and settlement types.  You might have noticed by now that I use an iterative development process -  think about something, implement it for a while, then start the process over again.  It helps me refine and develop my thoughts.

This means that some parts of the Stronghold system will change Very Slightly as I implement some minor changes.  I expect the changes will be 'cosmetic' or very minor, and won't really affect primary settlements (villages, towns, cities) at all.

Any changes will mainly affect secondary settlements - and particularly those used to drive a Rural/Wilderness stronghold.

the Blog Post is here :- http://galinia.org.uk/settlements

Re: OOC2

Some bad news I am afraid.   My main Internet connection is down.  The fibre router has failed 😕 and I need to wait for the company  to send me a new one.  Back in the old days I would have just popped onemail of my spare routers on and reconfigure it.  But a 100mb connection makes it worthwhile.

Let's hope for a quick delivery.

I won't be able to make a post proper for group 2 until Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest, and wanted to apologize for holding things up.

A couple of rules enhancements dealing with people ...

I have updated and moved the Guidance on building Noble houses from the old webpage.  And I have reworked the rules for Entourages.  The basic rules haven't changed -  however, I have added the Entourage-Cousin.

You find links to both on this page

And today's job has been getting the Restov and East Rostland list of people up to date.

http://rp.baileymail.net/doku....estov:restov_society

If you have any direct family links (in a way that might show in a Social Directory)  Please check the page out and make sure I have an entry for you -  and that the entry is correct.

Please also let me know if your backgrounds include any other families that might be on the list as well.

Re: OOC2

I have been thinking about the Mass Combat rules.  They have been due for a rewrite for a while now, and this seems like a good time for me to buckle down to it  :P

My thoughts are in the most recent post on my Blog -  and will eventually get worked into a set of rules, that will become embedded into the Campaign System.  This would be a good time to give me your thoughts, as they haven't been formalized yet ...

Did you ever look at or through the WotC 3.5 supplement called Heroes of Battle? It seems to sort of use/mirror some of the things your blog post mentions.

I haven't seen that one.

By the time I had bought all the AD&D1 supplements and then most of the AD&D2 supplements -  I sort of ran out of inclination to start all over again :)

Re: OOC2

Heroic Combats (in the myths) tend to come down between smaller encounters  between the heroes from each side.

Cu Chulain appears on the other side of a ford that an enemy leader needs to cross - and a one-on-one duel takes place in the ford.  Another story has flanking and scouting groups attacked and killed -  eventually damaging the enemy army's morale.  Most of the heroic combats from the Siege of Troy take place in an open area outside the city - sometimes right in the middle of the battle that is raging around them.

Those are just three stories that I can think of quickly. Even in RL battles units were held in reserve and deployed to fill gaps, or specialist units were sent to cut supply lines or take out a machine-gun post that commands part of the battlefield.

In these rules both sides will have their heroes - the few characters who are significantly better than the bulk of the army - higher level, more skilled, better equipment etc.  Which actually represents Adventuring Parties quite well.

So the heroes of one side are deployed to neutralize the heroes of the other side. For example the members of group-3 might be sent to deal with a bunch of heavy crossbow men on the left flank.  Group-2 could be sent to deal with a mercenary Minotaur and his followers.  Group-1 might be sent to free the hostages held with the enemy baggage train.

So Heroic Combats are really just D&D/PF encounters written to fit a war zone environment.  Or, we keep playing pathfinder (rather than switch to wargames rules) while the battle goes on around us -  BUT the outcome of your encounters has an effect on the outcome of the battle.

OR - that is what I am trying to achieve.

Re: OOC2

I have just found the time to work out what extensions I need to be use columns in the wiki.  So I am  redesigning it with a new structure that should make it  quicker to navigate.

I have started with the 'people' section.  In the process I have tweaked the  Ranks and Titles section.  There have been no  big changes, but I have reworked it slightly.

Re: OOC2

Kendrick - CL should have nothing to do with spellbook prices. It's not scroll costs or anything in PF, it's just based on the scribing costs itself.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic...pell-into-a-Spellboo

So it should be: 1st 10 gp * 7, 2nd 40 gp * 6, 3rd 90 gp * 4, 4th 160 gp * 2 = 990 gp + 15 for the book itself = 1,005 gp total and then probably 1/2 for sell value? not sure on that one.

In reply to ~Findlas (msg # 846):

Sure. But that's for writing a spell into a spellbook. But did the spell come from another spellbook or from a scroll. It would be from one of those two sources. Ultimately I'm hoping for GM guidance on that one :)

Re: OOC2

In reply to Kendrick Winters (msg # 847):

I mean, DM can chime in but PF RAW the value of a spell book has nothing to do with source of the writings originally (i.e. a free level up spell vs. bought scroll vs. found scroll). Then sell value is usually 1/2 that like for everything else, barring DM wanting to do something else :)

There are official Paizo pre-constructed spellbooks: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/spellbooks/ and they all use the math I showed to give spellbook value.

The only thing I think I was short on was I forgot the 20 cantrips at 5gp for another 100 gp.

Re: OOC2

Hey. That's great. I didn't know that there was a formula for pricing a spellbook. I was making it up as I went. That's why I showed the math. Please feel free to give me the total cost of the spellbook and I will use 50% of that value.

I'm busy right now and will read the link at a later date :)
