Large seems better. May make my level five entourage a master (expert) Boat crafter to run my eventual boatyard.

Re: OOC2
large is better, if you want a city base.  Basic is sufficient for a town base :)

Do boatyards or ships need permission of local government to build?

Boatyards do need permission -  Ships don't  :)

Bigger can make Mastercraft items, including vessels.

Is there a benefit to shipyards? Boats and vessels cost the same either way.

Re: OOC2
That depends if you want to expand to a City base :)

City Base

    Minimum Requirements are
    city location
Land: Merchant House, Large Warehouse, Caravanserai and at least two Caravans
Water: Merchant House, Large Warehouse, Pier and at least one Trade or Merchant ship (Keeler or Sailing Barge).

If you need to buy a Keel Boat or a Sailing Barge from somewhere other than Midmarch -  there will be a premium added to the price.  In the same way as if you tried to build in Restov or Mivon.

Status update - laptop charger snapped in the port. Posts will probably be shorter until I can get it fixed

Gwair - Sorry to hear that.  I hope it won't be too expensive  :(

All -  Henry has just made an announcement concerning the future development of Midmarch - in each of the Development threads.  I recommend that you check it out, if you aren't following  one at the moment.

In OOC  terms, it lets me move the game on a bit, and build parties that are more based on level.  It also facilitates some 'Wish List' items that a few of you have put forward.

Heads up, I might have to replace my laptop because of a motherboard issue. Just an FYI

In Kingdom Building,  a Merchant House has three stars, and a Sword School has two stars. What do the Stars mean?

Better living accommodation, the Merchant house is a nicer place to live

Re: OOC2
So far I have received Kingdom Development plans for
  • V&A Shipping
  • Andalon
  • Cass
  • Mariam
  • Kendrick
  • Safiya
  • Domitius
  • Zelona

And I have updated the Player Information (Notice Thread) accordingly.  link to a message in this game

I am waiting for something from:
  • Marik
  • Pipre
  • Quinn
  • El
  • Quentin
  • Marceline -
  • Ethankos

A basic analysis of your ‘spending power’ is listed in the Player Information (Notice Thread), and I am happy to discuss options in PMs.  Sometimes I can help put the rules into perspective for you.

The options, in short, are
  • You can do nothing (awarded BPs will be deferred until you are ready to take them.  Income will be banked until later – but you get no return.
  • See if another PC wants to ‘borrow’ them -  It also means you don’t have to do much, but you might be able to charge interest.
  • Spend them on an organisation.  (schools, churches etc)  They are really easy to manage – but gives you some skin in the game.
  • Build a business – a bit more complicated - the medium effort option.
  • Build a merchant house – by far the most complicated of the business options -  but has the best returns.
  • Build a stronghold – the most complicated part of the rules – doesn’t get a great financial return -  but more complex rules to play with and earns you rank, prestige and titles more quickly.

Re: OOC2
DM, might I suggest that you Pin the 'T for Trade' and similar threads at the top of the threads listing? Makes it easier for people to research their options.

The same information is replicated at http://rp.baileymail.net/doku....general:trade_routes although it now needs updating with the Midmarch Trade houses :)

I think I have an awful lot of pinned threads ....

Re: OOC2
You don't have to pin the Trade thread if you simply put all of the info into the Group T or make it Group K for Kingdom and and include Kingdom Trade as well. Then we can use the Filter on "K" and find all of the relevant threads.

Just an idea.

Check out the game links :)  Front page of the Wiki is linked  in the Game Links link :)  Just about everything that needs researching about the setting is available there.

The campaign rules are also linked  :)

In reply to Kendrick Winters (msg # 218):

Is THAT what filter does? I never knew, just avoided it everytime I accidentally went into it.

I'm reading up on the potential of my BP now and thinking of what El would do. I have a few ideas, but I need to look into things a bit more before I can really establish them.
