Just separating things out a bit ....


Kendrick stepped into the main room and found an empty table.

It had been a while since the last time Domitius had let his hair down and from all accounts the Dragon's Den seemed to be the place to be in town.  Dressed in his second finest outfit he headed in to the bar.

As he approached he paused outside and cast an eye over the new building then with a nod of approval he headed in.  He stopped just inside the entrance to allow his eyes to adjust and to scope out the room.  Spotting an empty seat near Sir Kendrick he made his way through the crowd and said "Good evening Sir Kendrick, may I join you?

Kendrick smiled as he saw Domitius approach his table. "Please do. What are you drinking tonight?" The young man held a glass in his hand. The liquid inside was a deep brown. He brought the drink to his lips and sipped slowly.

Taking a seat at Kendrick's table with view of the front door, he gave a nod of thanks as he did so and Domitius replied "Oldlaw whiskey, assuming they have some."

"Have you eaten? The dessert today is excellent." Kendrick made small talk.

"Not as yet, I had been practicing my forms until later than usual." He does his best to catch one of the waitress's eyes as he continues "How go your plans to invest locally?"

"I've already started a business here. It's called Winters Wares and Spices." Kendrick smiled. "How about yourself? Are you thinking of putting some roots down?"

"Can I help you?" one of the waitresses asks as she responds to Domitius's signal.

Domitius is about to respond to Kendrick when the waitress appears "I see it is true the Dragon's maidens are the fairest in the land." Domitius replied to Winnie with a friendly smile "I would be interested in a meal, a glass of wine followed by dessert and an Oldlaw Whiskey if you have it.  What would you recommend?"

Winnie smiles sweetly and half winks at Domitius.  "Well, it should really be stew, as you haven't booked in advance, but I might be able to talk the cook into a nice pork chop .....  and I might be able to get you some pie for dessert."

Taking a cloth that is pushed through  her apron strap,  Winnie leans forwards, and starts to wipe the table.  "Anything else I can get you ...."

"Ah fair maid, the pork chop sounds truly wonderous and pie I have heard is divinely inspired.  For such a kindness I would be forever grateful." hr gives her a cheeky smile "Perhaps later we could share a bottle of wine and talk of distant places.  However for now my dear Sir Kendrick and I have business we must discuss."

Winnie smiles sweetly at Domitius, but doesn't respond to his suggestions for later.

Still got it ... she thinks as she walks jauntily back to the kitchens

"Sorry about that Sir Kendrick, now as too settling down I do indeed intend to find myself a place here.  I have been looking at Ringbridge as it seems a good place to begin investments though down the track I would hope to have my own demesne probably the Kamelands if I find the right spot."

The half-orc clutched at her breast wrapping her shawl around her tightly. The cold made her scar sore. The cyclops had left quite a mark across her chest. A painful reminder that not all people could be saved no matter how much she wished for them to see the light. The paladin entered the tavern looking for warmth and a meal. She waved at the familiar face of Kendrick Winters pulling up a seat at his table. "Kendrick! how have you been."

Domitius rose to his feet as the half-orc paladin joined them at the table "Lady Mariam." and nodded his head in greeting.

Kendrick frowned as Mariam sat at his table. She seemed hurt and sore. "Are you alright? Do you need a priest? You should be resting." He waved the bar maid over to his table. Clearly she needed a drink, if she declined the priest.

Winnie returns with Domitius's order, and returns with Mariam's order later.

Mariam smiled reassuringly "this scar?It's been looked at, I won it in battle our last outing, it aches in the cold though. We came across a cyclops family. We tried to befriend them but they would not listen, slew one of our own and so we fought them. It was very.... disappointing." she smiled regretfully. The paladin thanked Winnie for the tea and soup enjoying the warm steam waiting up from it.
"Domitius, it is good to see you."

"It is good to see you too my Lady, may I ask who fell to the Cyclops?" Domitius respomded.

He smiled at Winnie when she returned "My thanks fair maiden." and gives her a wink.

Lounging nearby, Berta grins at her sister-in-law, but makes no comment, having no wish to deprive Winnie of either such entertainment nor what tips she might thus earn.

The Half-Orc she doesn't know, but makes a note of the name as the occupants of the table greet her, impressed that anyone who tried talking to the one-eyed beasts was still alive to regret it ...

... then frowns, remembering that Mariam was one of the group that went out with Marceline.  And as she listens intently for Half-Orc's response that recollection brings with it a fervent prayer to the Mother of Souls that her companion on the long journey to these frontier lands was not the one who fell !

She looked down into her tea for a moment falling silent, she looked up at her companions "his name was Gehron, I had not known him for long but he was a brave warrior and fought furiously."

"He traveled here with us from Restov, he was... bold.  I hope he rests peacefully now." He raises his goblet in toast to the memory of the fallen warrior, he hadn't particularly liked him but he would respect his memory.

Kendrick raised his glass as well. He sat silently as he considered how closely his brushed with death himself.

Releasing a breath she'd not realised she was holding, Berta relaxes somewhat as Mariam confirms that it was not Marceline who perished out there in the wild lands beyond, though her relief is somewhat tempered by chagrin at the offering coin she'd silently promised for that grace.  Perhaps she'll say a prayer for this Gehron too in apology that she'd found the news of his death a comfort !

Domitous looked at Berta as she exhaled, he wasn't sure who she was but she seemed interested in what Mariam had said or at least so he assumed.  He smiled at her and gave her a quick nod before continuing on his conversation.  "Lady Mariam, Sir Kendrick and I were discussing future plans, what of yourself and the church if Iomedae?"

Guys -  Please remember this is a Fuzzy Thread, so it is out of time.  At the moment Mariam doesn't know how her adventure has finished.  There might be four large one eyed troll-clopses hiding around the corner!

Domitius I would appreciate it if you rewrote that last post and took the conversation in a different direction :)

Troll-clopses!  Why didn't I think of those before?

Mariam lifted her tea cup in unison with the men. Setting it down she smiled excitedly. "I'm hoping to make the church a center of the community.  A place that can help others less fortunate. One that can display both the more martial aspects of Iomdae but also her more gentle side."

As Domitius looks her way, Berta maintains a dignified and lofty blank expression ... though relents to give the Half-Elf a quick wink of recognition for the smile and nod.

And as the conversation turns to matters religious, so the warrior-woman turns her attention back to the rest of her patrons.

"Anything else you need here?" Winnie asks  as she collects the empty glasses.

"Another round if you please fair maiden."  Domitius said with a smile and a wink.

"Lady Mariam is that here in town or are you looking to spread the good works further afield?  Ringbridge perhaps?" he continued curious of the churches plans for the area.

Mariam smiled "yes the church is in the central district. Though as we grow I suppose we should build in other towns." she spoke that last bit as if it was to herself.

"Let us know when that time comes Mariam. I'm sure that we'll be able to send a donation to the cause."

"It would be an honour to do so." Domitius added "Indeed should things ho as planned then I would be looking to build a temple to Iomedae on my own lands."

Later in the month

Domitius entered the Dragon's Den and spotted his friend sitting at his regular table, as he moved across to join him he caught Winnie's elbow as she whizzed past and said"Winnie my dear, would you get myself and Kendrick a bottle of your best red wine.  He has just become Marshall and I think we need to celebrate."

Taking a seat a broad smile on his face he said accusingly "You never told me you sought high office and Marshall yo boot!  Congratulations my friend and well done."

Kendrick got up from his seat when Domitius came to the table. He smiled when congratulated, "The position found me. It aligned with my calling and seemed a perfect fit." He accepted the toast. "As long as we're here... we should eat." Kendrick gestured for Winnie.

"Of course my friend, though perhaps you should eat lighter now that you will be tied to a desk." Domitius teased his friend "or do you intend to continue exploring these lands?"

"Oh I still intend to see the land for myself." Kendrick took a sip of the wine. "I know for a fact that several of the council members are active in their private pursuits. And I've found myself in the barracks. I'm hoping to increase moral with my presence."

"Aye I have travelled with a few of them, there will be time enough for getting fat when we are old." he claps Kendrick on the shoulder.  "Now how go our plans for a second serai?"

"I have my business manager handling that as we dine." Kendrick sat back as the food was brought to their table. Roasted elk, baked potatoes and greens. "I've heard rumors that you spent quite some time in Iomedae's library and you weren't reading scrolls."

"It was indeed a most diverting afternoon and in the most pleasant company, perhaps you should have joined us."  Domitius replied with a wink as he began to eat "Did you get a chance to speak with Dara whilst she was visiting Iomedae's house?" he asked innocently.

"Yes. Yes, I did speak with Dara." Kendrick became thoughtful. "Offered her the room above 'Wares and Spices for her child and companion. But it seems that she'll be looking for something else."

"Why?" Kendrick looked at his friend with the drink in front of his lips.

"Curiosity mostly, she is new in town and I thought you may like to show her around town." Domitius replied then it sunk in what Kendrick had offered her and how it could have been seen by some.  "Oh my friend, you are sometimes too good for this world.  A women who just arrives in town with a young child and you offer her a place to stay in your own building.  The gossips would have had a field day if she had taken the offer." he leans forward and says in a low voice "They may even stop talking about Pipre for a moment." he sits back into his chair and raises his glass, a twinkle in his eye.

"Gossip?!" He seemed flustered as he almost slammed his glass down at the table. "I'll have you know that no such thing, whatever you were thinking, was going on." He picked up his glass and downed it one swallow. "What is going on here? Don't people more work to do around here than to be idle and gossip?"

"Calm Kendrick,  you are a public official and there is bound to be gossip.  As stories go though you could do far worse and as you said she turned down the room so propriety has been observed." Domitius grinned took another sip and said "You know you could do worse, she is quite attractive and a priestess of Sharenrae. "

Kendrick chuckled and smiled at his friend's comment, "She did look nice." He blurted out at Domitius silent response. "I'm a knight and servant to Iomedae, I'm not a monk!"

Ready to end this scene

Kendrick sat at the table in the Dragons Den

Kendrick entered the Dragons Den. He smiled as he was ushered to his table. He glanced around the room and gave a brief nod of acknowledgement before he sat down at his table. "Wine. Warm bread and meats." He ordered...

Kendrick sipped his wine. He hoped to discuss a few things with the good mayor. He sliced the bread before he stuffed a sliced piece of cheese inside the two halves. After a minute, he broke off a piece of cheese stuffed bread and chewed.
