"I don't like the sound of that." Zell said as he pulled out his bow and made sure to stay well away from the "chest".

"Maybe Nino can find a big rock and hurl it at it?"

Re: Into the depths

I don't think it is a chest.  It is either an illusion or something that has shifted to form the shape of a chest.

Nym pulls out his sword and swings at the chest with the intent of proving it is an illusion or something else.

OOC: 18:56, Today: Nym Eveningfall rolled 18 using 1d20+6.  To Hit w/ Longsword.
18:59, Today: Nym Eveningfall rolled 9 using 1d8+3.  Damage w/ Longsword.

Re: Into the depths

Nym steps forward, swinging at the chest and as it does something happens.

Four yelliw spheres open up on the lid looking around with seething anger and hunger.  The lid irself opens up showing rows of teeth abd a huge purple togune. The sides of the chest seem to melt as tendrils reach out, one grabbing the longsword even as the chest bleeds a purple blood.

...its definitely not a chest!

The creatures lets out a wail and the tendrils flail around.

<ooc: iniative everyone.

Re: Into the depths

Yacob's spell of opening is what tipped me off to this being something other than a chest.  Had it appeared to work properly I would never have known it was a mimic.

OOC: 19:49, Today: Nym Eveningfall rolled 22 using 1d20+3.  Initiative.

Well that's not a big surprise.  After all Dwarves and Elves don't leave chests lying around in the middle of a room without some other safeguards.  I should have caught on sooner.

Nym says as moves to try to attack again.  Swearing midly in elven before continuing in common.

My sword is stuck in the stupid thing.

Re: Into the depths

Round 1

With the monster holding onto Nym's sword with some unseen force, the elf swears in his native language. Quinn, Nino and Johnathan, out of instinct, attack the beast, luckily for Nino and Quinn missing before they realise what had happened, but Johnathan, causing a solid hit, has his staff stuck fast to the mimic. One of the slimy tendrils reach out, swatting at Johnathan as he is trying to unstick his staff, but the clink of the arm is heard in his armor and he is nothing but pushed a little.

Rivka, Zell and Yacob, wisely, opt for ranged weapons. Zell takes aim and fires, but with Nym and Johnathan trying to remove weapons and the mimic moving, misses. Rivka, likewise misses her first shot, but her second aim is true, and a squeal can be heard as the arrow it's one of the eyes.

Likewise, the loudest squeal is when Yacob casts as spell from his want, a glob of purple acid hitting it causing a sizzling sound to come from the beast.

(OOC: First round is complete. The mimic has been hit a few times and various areas have blood oozing from it, but it also is holding Nym's sword and Johnathan's Staff. To remove teh weapon you need a DC 18 strength check.

Yacob chuckles and launches three bolts of viridian force at the mimic striking through his companions wild gestures. One flying through the gap in Nino's axe (between the blade and the shaft), another curving around Nym to strike the mimic in an eye, and the third simply flying straight at it and slamming home in it's fang filled mouth.

Re: Into the depths

ROUND 2

Nym tries in vain to remove the sword stuck on the mimic, giving the beast a perfect shot with one of it's tentacles. Fortunately, the shot raised off the elf....if a solid hit had have occurred the group realize the elf could well have been as stuck to the beast as his weapon.

Johnathan, equally as eagre to get his weapon clear, found a sudden burst of strength, and wether the damage from others or his own strength, the staff loosened and came free, causing the priest to stumble back and behind the others.

Quinn, forgoing his sword, grasped his crossbow and fire, but the quick movement of teh swap of weapons meant his aim was too high and flew over the beast. Meanwhile, Rivka fired another two arrows, one hitting causing a squeal of pain, while the other missed.

Nino, not fully grasping the beasts abilities, saw an enemy, ad growled and swung in a massive overhead chop with his axe, causing a piece to come off the beast. Even though the axe seemed stuck, the dwarf renched the axe free with a greenish spurt of blood.

The other dwarf cast a spell of arcane magic causing several missiles of pure energy to hit the mimic, finishing the beast as it collapsed in a poo of it's own green blood.

with panting breaths, all was silent.

....then Nym's sword dropped from the mimic's corpse, causing a clattering sound.

<OOC: Encounter is at an end. congratulations everyone. Only injuries were Nym who was hit this round.>
