Re: Into the depths

Johnathan searches the wands and after a time, smiles wit5h satisfaction, returning with a wand made of what looks like glass. Yacob unwraps the linen note band indeed, there is a note that has a command word and the word identify.

<OOC: If you want to identift certain items, you can. to identift teh lot it will take a few hours. Breslin and the other dwarvfes seem to be cataloguing the items and searching the tower>

Nym speaks to Rivka and Kell.  He puts the wand in a protected, but easy to get to location on his person as he readjusts his gear to fit the fine armor he's wearing now.

No, Rivka. Kell, you have been told almost everything we know.  We are going to Waterdeep in an attempt to locate someone who can help us against whatever, or whoever caused the Dwarves to abandon this place long ago.  I suspect Lloth, but may be wrong as others seem to think it is a dragon.

Re: Into the depths

Yacob takes a moment to gather his thoughts so he can answer all the questions at once.

"The original quest was to find this place and for finding it you will get whatever my Uncle Alastain promised you. However a moment ago Tracks he points to his friend "found a stone that changes where we go from here. This stone is part of an ancient struggle between two opposing forces. One known as The Mistress and the other is Zarmantan. The Mistress is supposedly a drow with red eyes, but I know she brought this place down which means that she controlled several tribes of orcs and goblinkin along with a red dragon. Notice I said controlled not bargained with. Zarmantan on the other hand is known in Dwarf lore as The Great one or The Old one. He is a human that is apparently immortal or close to it as he doesn't age. This book has far more details than that I am sure, but I haven't had time to read it. We do know that there are 8 stones of which we possess exactly one and there are theories as to the location of the other seven." he pauses for a moment. "I'm going to Waterdeep because that is our best lead at the moment on Zarmantan. I have a feeling we will be seeing The Mistress sooner than we see Zarmantan. The only one that I am not giving a choice on following me is Tracks. He touched that stone and until I know he doesn't share some link to it he stays with it. The rest of you are more than welcome to join and I tend to think dear Nino will be following me anyway. I won't force you, but when asked what the next step was I answered Waterdeep and now you all know why. Questions? And please keep them to a minimum because some of this is a guess at this point, but my guesses are better than most facts."

Rivka nodded, looking a bit overwhelmed by this flood of information.   Then she shrugged
"I'm usually helping people on a much smaller scale, leading hunting parties and guiding lost travelers, but this sounds like a noble cause if I've ever heard one.  You have my bow, if you'll have me"

Re: Into the depths

Jonathan stands beside Yacob on his right side, just nodding his head as Yacob speaks. I signed on with you as mapmaker and historian for the quest of finding this stronghold. I know I'm not a great fighter or an expert at spell craft, but whatever abilities I have are at your disposal as long as you need them Yacob.

Why don't we all get what we are taking with us away from here so we at least know what our items are capable of doing. I agree with Yacob one or at most two items each to aid us on our quest, but the rest of the treasures we've found stay behind they belong to the dwarves.

Re: Into the depths

Now that she had detected magic and selected items she probably wanted - although if they identified them perhaps she would change her mind - now looked at the papers Jonathan had given her, reading the illusion that touching the stone had caused. For the good of her group, she read it off, "The illusion said:
"If ye are seeing this, then i have failed. Th' Mistress has most likely taken th' keep.  That means I am most likely gone. If ye be dwarf, then know that i am sorry. It falls to ye to guard th' stone. Either way, if ye got this far, then ye be worthy of our trust an' respect. Th' stone we found 100 years ago in the den o' a beast...we took it back, as I knew it was unusual. Th' stone is magic....no doubt to any who made it here, but it is so much more that we thought. Th' stone is a part o' something bigger, something' powerful. It needs protectin....protectin' from her." Then it showed seven other stones and continued, "I don't know much, but what i do is in a book, in my study here.  find th' book on th' third floor. it will guide you. Find th' old one.....Zarmatan. he knows what ye face, he can guide ye. If ye not know how to find him, seek the lady of Waterdeep....she will know how to find him. I know my husband is gone...he fought how he lived, protectin' our clan. If ye find me daughter, tell her i loved her 'til th' end. Protect it, and use what ye need here to keep it and yerself safe. Your th' guardians of th' earth now. she will come fer it, and you have not faced th' likes of her. Keep it safe. Fer what it's worth, I'm sorry.""

Sonori paused, carefully handing the paper back to Jonathan. "Thank you." She looked at Yacob, "So you went to get the book. And you found it. And you want to go find the Lady of Waterdeep. Do we know who that is?" She wondered if it was better to explore here for a bit more first. "If it showed all the stones, that would suggest that they might have found all of them, or at least more of them. Would it make sense to try to find any of the other stones first?" She was always willing to travel, but it seemed like there was so much more here to explore - and possibly that could be just as helpful - or perhaps need as much protecting. It didn't hurt, anyway, to ask the question, she figured.

When Zell piped up about wanting to see the stone, she looked over, curious. "It would be good to see it to help us recognize if we come across another."

OoC: Jonathan said that he copied the message verbatim, so just making sure that all the newly joined characters know it in character. Thanks, Jonathan!

Re: Into the depths

Jonathan looks to Yacob for direction as far as the stone is concerned he was told by Yacob to both put it away and carry it. Truth be told the young cleric was afraid of the stone, the last time he touched it it caused an earth quake. Hey boss is it really safe for me to get the stone out and pass it around? last time it was touched it all most brought this place down around us.

Kell slowly nods. "I.....see. Well, since I'd wanted to get away from the forge for awhile, I suppose a few side trips wouldn't hurt. But before we leave, could any of you that read dwarf point out a book or two in the library that deals with armor or weaponmaking techniques? I might as well expand my knowledge while I'm abroad."

Re: Into the depths

Nino looked at the armor and clanked it with his gauntlet, not caring about some stone. He didn't like the platemail. It made too much noise. What Intelligence he did have left told him that being sneaky was the way to go while hunting, so he looked for something lighter. His attention was quickly taken to an amulet that had a bear tooth on it. He picked it up and was smiling from ear to ear as he started growling like a bear!

Grrrr !

Zell leaned down to get a good look at the stone, wondering what it was and why it was so important.

14:51, Today: Zell rolled 17 using 1d20+7.  Appraise.

When we are away from here and perhaps learn a little more about the stone I would appreciate you getting a hands on look at it Zell. You are far more experienced in what items are and there worth then I will ever be. Jonathan holds the stone out until Zell has finished his inspection of it then carefully wraps it up and returns it to his belt pouch.

Re: Into the depths

Johnathan held the stone for people to look at, the takers being Zell, Sonori and Yacob.

The stone was about the size of a small plum, and was dark brown to the point of almost looking black, like a piece of darkened earth. the only odd thi9ng was iridescent veins of white/blue running through it.

Kell nods. "That would be most helpful, Rivka. I think Dwarven is a language I need to learn. Although to be fair, the letters are familiar, but the groupings are not. You see, Dethek is the alphabet used by dwarves, giants, and several races that live beneath the surface. The share common letters, but the letter groupings for each race is different. Quite fascinating I thought." This warrior looked like a bruiser, but talked like a scholar.

Re: Into the depths

Nym calls out to Nino again as he sees he doesn't like the metal armor.

Nym takes the best leather or natural armor available that would fit Oler.

"This is for my druid friend Oler."

Once Nym has the armor for Oler packed up he's ready to head to Waterdeep as soon as Yacob and the others going to Waterdeep are ready.
