Re: OOC

We've got a lot of applications. I'll be selecting some new blood over the next couple of days.

If you are okay with it, I would like to jump ahead just a little bit...

After meeting with Garyld, who knows nothing more about the orcs, the party is approached by a merchant who will pay them 15 gold pieces each to escort a river barge down to Thurmaster, where they need to go anyway to see Tauster and collect their pay for delivering the letter (10 gold pieces each). The trip to Thurmaster is uneventful. We will start up again as the party is on its way back to Milborne to collect the barge-duty pay. The new party members will have joined up with the party during this time.

And I have given each of you some extra experience for sticking around. :)

Re: OOC

I think the new players are all pretty much finished with their character sheets.

I'll move things along later this week. In the meantime, perhaps you all could introduce yourselves and the veterans could provide the newbies with a story summary.

Khaerus is a Wizard, seeking knowledge, tomes, mysteries, secrets, magic, etc.

Not that wealth, fame, good food and drink, and companionship would be turned away either. =)

Re: OOC

I'll give the recap a shot. Lucien is the group rogue by the way.

The party has recently traveled from The Spotted Owl Inn with a chest belonging to Gordrenn, allegedly a purveyor of magical goods. The chest allegedly contained magical components for a wizard named Tauster who lives in Thurmaster in the province of Haranshire. Now I say allegedly, not because Lucien is paranoid, but because the party voted against checking the contents of the chest. Even after a ragtag group of farmers attacked the group because they were convinced that the chest was full of dark magics, the party still believed the chest ought to be delivered to Tauster.

As a side note, the party had only been paid with a letter of credit worth 150 gold after confirmation of delivery. If 150 gold seems like a lot to deliver a chest to a relatively peaceful hamlet, then you're right. Not that there's any evidence of any illicit happening with the wizard or his supplier since the box was not inspected and the villagers were not interrogated.

Once the party arrived in the town midway to their goal, they were asked by the locale residents to check up on Tauster's apprentice: Jelenneth. She had not been heard from in some time and people were beginning to worry. After resting, the party continued on to Thurmaster where they delivered the box to Tauster. The wizard had no news of his apprentice so the party went in search of her. After convincing the local magistrate and a druid to help them track the girl, the party came upon some orcs who were summarily beaten back, but with no sign of the girl.

The party also successfully managed to capture and restrain a werebear, who the magistrate was trying to find and help. We left off with the group debating pursuing the orcs under the assumption that Jelenneth had been kidnapped by them. As a tangentially related note, the promised reward for the girl's return was 400 old pieces. Just throwing that out there.

Re: OOC

Okay, cool cool! Thank you for the introduction Khaerus and thank you so very much for filling us in on the adventure so far Lucien. That introduction to what was going on is certainly going to help me, I for one am not very good at going back through the old game posts and picking up the thread of the story. Especially when on a time limit, so that's a huge help for me.

So DM, do we new players fit into all this?

Hi!
Thanks for the story thusfar!
Albrecht will be a new druidic buddy! But more importantly, Al's an active brewer and herbalist, so he's got the parties recreational needs covered!

Re: OOC

Thanks, Lucien!

How do the new characters fit in? Feel free to work that out over the next day or so, in as much or as little detail as you'd like. I'll move the game thread along tomorrow or Friday.

From Msg #231 in this thread:

"After meeting with Garyld, who knows nothing more about the orcs, the party is approached by a merchant who will pay them 15 gold pieces each to escort a river barge down to Thurmaster, where they need to go anyway to see Tauster and collect their pay for delivering the letter (10 gold pieces each). In reply to Alessandra de Tylmarande (msg # 247):

Absolutely. For background purposes Lucien is a master of espionage so if any has moved in underground circles that could be a connection. He enjoys gambling, making traps, and completely rational caution. Mechanically he's a ranged rogue who doesn't have a longbow yet, but hopes to get one soon.

Antia is a sister of light cleric so if any of you are religious you might have met or heard if the demon child taken un by the order and brought up in the faith....some say it was an experiment to see if they could save her soul from the curse of her race....others see it as blasphemy....

Re: OOC

Cool cool, thank you both for posting that up.

Its pretty much like it says in Alessandra's description, she's a member of one of the oldest and most powerful noble families in the city of Neverwinter, her family has always had a strong connection to the worshippers of Tyr and has included several clerics and paladins of the Maimed God. As a girl Alessandra grew obsessed with stories about noble knights, her own ancestors among them, and brave adventurers; so she pretty much dedicated her life to become one. And now that she has sworn her Oath to Tyr and stood her vigil in the Grand Temple of Justice in the heart of Neverwinter, she is now a sworn Knight and Paladin in his service. So she is off and out into the world seeking quests both to prove herself and make the world a better place.

That is assuming that this is taking place in the forgotten realms... if not.. well then I'm kinda in trouble. :p

Re: OOC

Then she could have heard whispers of the demon child cleric while at the temple of justice but ignored the rumours until now... Could lead to friction between the characters or they could end up the best of friends :)

Re: OOC

Either or is very possible, the last time that I played Alessandra in a game we also had a tiefling woman with us, although she was a ranger and not a cleric. But in general Alessandra tended to be a bit cold toward her, because its hard for her to imagine anyone with daemon blood in them being entirely beyond the influence of the Demons and Devils. But she also does her best to assume that the she is good until proven otherwise... that is probably the tack I'm going to take.

It should be interesting to see how it turns out.
