Mary will hold fire just long enough for the Pirates to break the tree-line and set foot on the beech sand when she orders her gunners to fire and cut down the front ranks... messily!

"FIRE!!"

The dual .50Cal machinegun nests strafe the first ranks of retreating Pirates then Mary calls for cease fire... then she gets on the the bullhorn loudspeaker and yells...

"DROP YOUR WEAPONS AND SURRENDER OR YOU WILL BE CUT DOWN!  THERE IS NO ESCAPE!"

Thorralun: The princess has you stand outside her tent while she packs up her stuff.

It was a rarity for Thorrarlun to be found very far from the Princess when there was any danger or risk to her safety. He'd encamped himself at her very door all night, ready to spring into action should his weapons be needed, and so of course he was still in place while she was packing.
Trina:
"Thorrarlun, I think you've told me your are a skilled weaponsmith but have you any skill in goldsmithing? I have a gemstone I want set into a naval piercing.. is that something you could craft ...given time, of course, not now?"

"No, I do not. Weapons and armour are my focus, trinkets are best left to those less focused on combat."
"However, if you want it set into a pommel...?"

On the west side of the island Thorrarlun could hear the sounds of battle but contribute nothing. Frustrated as he was at not joining the fun, he knew his responsibility was to keep the Princess safe and well away from the danger of the fight.
Perhaps there would be some prisoners taken that needed "persuading" to give up what they knew?

Trina seeing the horrible effects of the Razortooth .50Cal Machinegun nests upon the fleeing pirate sees there is no need for her to venture onto the beach, but she notes the HMMVW struggling to get out of the mud pit but still active.  The TOW weapon mount on top giving her much cause for concern they might fire it at the Razortooth if they can only shift the HMMVW enough to aim.

She decided this vehicle needs to stop... more thoroughly at least temporarily.

Trina begins casting... focusing on her Eagle eye vision to aim her spells...

First she casts an Extinguish Fire spell on the area of the Vehicle's engine compartment.... effectively snuffing the engine's internal combustion.

04:43, Today: Trina rolled 14 using 3d6.  Casting Spell - Extinguish Fire [13-]. – 14

However, she was in a awkward position to cast on her belly and she blundered the incantation and the spell failed to be cast properly.
Grimacing Trina stood up and cast the spell properly annoyed the little energy wasted in the previous casting...

04:49, Today: Trina rolled 10 using 3d6.  2nd Casting Spell - Extinguish Fire [13-]. – 10

Standing on the Pirate landing boat deck she was briefly wrapped in sunny light as her spell flew true to her target...

Then she sat down crossing her legs under her ~ taking cover to call on the energy of her powerstone as well and began casting a Fireproof spell on the area of the vehicle's engine compartment.... restricting ANY fire from igniting there for the next 24 hours.  She was not sure she would have time to finish the casting ... but she would try at least...

05:04, Today: Trina rolled 12 using 3d6.  Casting Spell - Fireproof [13-]. – 12

She would be nearly out of energy with these castings...

Thorrarlun: An Islander comes and gets you and the princess. He leads you deep into the woods. along the way you get a glimpse of a deliberate trail in the woods that looks like a group of people fleeing for their lives. Judging by the personal belongings strewn along the trail it is a frightened mass. The princess is guided to what might be a "command post" on the far side of the island from the pirates. There are communications devices set up and a sand table of the island in the middle. From the pieces on the sand table the Pirates are being lead into an Ambush. There is a force ahead of the pirates anticipated advance and other forces positioned to flank the pirates. There are other islander forces on the board but you cannot tell what they are.

The princess is further escorted to her ship and a group of Islanders are put on the ships Mortar.It seems that the plan is to use the ships mortar to bombard the pirates once the Ambush is sprung. The princess waits by the wheelhouse, if things go wrong she is to save as many Islanders as she can.

When you hear the sounds of gunfire over the radio, the islanders prepare to open fire with the mortar. a round is loaded and the aim adjusted. The boat itself maneuvers for a better shot. As the fight rages on the island the crew of Islanders get locations to send a round. Over the radio the leader of the Islanders sound like the announcers to one of the sports games that the people of the Isle of the three sisters watch on their "Televisions" with moving pictures. He speaks clearly and calmly as he orders his people around the island to attack the pirates.

Teruo: those who try to get to the launcher die by your rifle. The crystal clear optics and amazingly high magnification of the Optic gives you easy hits. Soon the pirates rush out of the woods seemingly fleeing like cowards. When the PT boat opening up on them with Machineguns they drop their weapons and raise their hands.

"You can move in to take prisoners. I'll cover you."

Trina sees Teruo break cover to move to start apprehending the pirates on the beach she will discontinue with her 5 minute casting time for her spell and will instead collect half the lizard men holding the Pirate Landing craft to come with her and she will assist Teruo in his efforts with a handful of lizard men with spears and her with Battlerifle in hand... to cover them.

Trina will make her way to Teruo's side... and favor him with a smile, "...nice shooting."

As you converge on the pirates the Islanders start filtering their way out of the forest. The islanders are armed with rifles for the most part. They split up into teams of two. One man strips and searches the prisoners. The second man stays out of reach and covers his buddy with a rifle. Once stripped of anything that could be used as a weapon the prisoners are placed in a holding group. the Prisoners are ordered to keep silent and not to move. Those prisoners are guarded by big, strong looking men with nasty shark tooth lined clubs. Further back is someone watching with a rifle.

The gear is piled up on tarps to be taken away and sorted out latter. Clothing, weapons, ammunition and various other gear is collected up and taken back to the main camp.


Teruo: you are asked to pick out Pirates one by one to interrogate. You are to lead them to a secluded area way from their fellow pirates. A slim bearded man has set up a table with some fresh fruit and a pitcher of water on it. Rather than yell, scream beat and torture the information out of the pirates he calmly talks to them and takes notes on what they say. it seems that cooperation gets the pirates food and water.

Trina: Mary takes you to someplace private for a Captain to crew member talk.

Thorrarlun: the princess returns to the island and heads towards the site of the battle. She walks among the pirate dead with casual indifference. You know that as the host to whatever possessed her she had seen what the demon controlling her body had done. She almost seems to be studying the battle.

Once he is sent to escort prisoners, he is surprised, even disappointed, by the pleasant treatment enemies received. Treating them even more harshly, his treatment stands in sharp contrast to how the interrogator treats them, probably only enhancing his effect.

The various surviving pirates are interrogated and end up giving a great amount of useful information. Those who are uncooperative are put on a small boat out in the ocean out of sight of land. The Islanders do make sure that the pirates have enough survival kit to keep them alive.

Roi-Tan's statement to them as they are taken away is "May the seas show you as much mercy as you have shown my people."

After that there is the division of the loot. The cargo ship has enough fuel stored to top off all the tanks of the rest of the growing fleet. The pirates had a variety of small arms and some heavier weapons. The Princess does negotiate for you to take your pick of the equipment.



Among other things you have a map of all the islands locally and the ones where the Pirates base out of are marked. More worrying are the two dozen or so Pirate watercraft in the region. these range from Small "Boston Whaler type boats to Armed cutters that can go toe to toe with anything else in the island chain and most likely win.

Once everyone collects their prises the Princess asks that an Islander diplomatic group acompany her back to the Island of the Three Sisters.

A few minutes later Trina met back up with Teruo and Thorrarlun... looking a little breathless and flushed... but not angry.  She was carrying her kit and a duffel bag of pirate loot.

She wanted to meet up with the princess and her comrades to coordinate and get any additional directives from Aanandita before returning to the Razortooth for the trip back to the Isle of Three sisters.

Teruo discusses wishlists with the others. He likes the sound of mortars, but ammunition is problematic. He is happy with his gun though, but worried about the other pirate craft. Are there any limit mines in the hold? Lizardmen would be lethal with them ...



What is Trina looking for? Perhaps some modern body armour?

So she winks and unbuckles her weapon's belts strapped around her containing her Enchanted Broadsword-QUADRAMORTE, her shortsword, and knife; a shoulder rig holstering her Glock 17; unslung her quiver with a score of arrows and her Modern Compound Bow along with her fully kitted out FN-FAL Battle Rifle with its  socket bayonet, tritium-illuminated scope, Patrol Sling, Extended-Clamped Magazines and Brass Catcher to show the fine hauberk of chain-mail she was clad in as she dropped her wooden shield and takes off her Modern Ballistic helm to toss her head of long honey-color lockes of hair.

Then she shimmy-ed out of her chainmail hauberk over her head to reveal underneath... a TL8 Tactical 'Assault' vest with a full set removable Level III trauma plates in the vest and on her arms and legs.  Topped off with combat boots.

It's 'almost' a martial strip-tease...

"You don't need to worry about me Teruo, I'm well armored and have been wearing armor in combat for battle for years. The Princess' servants were quite thorough in instructing me in modern weapons and armor... its all new to me but I left home to embrace the new.. so its all very fascinating to me!"

She chuckles, "Captain Rivers ~ Mary was just as worried... and was quite vocal in dressing me down about 'recklessness' in battle... but I explained I'm a spellcaster.. a battle wizard of Fire. I have a missile shield spell that makes me immune to being hit by projectiles... no volume of arrow or bullet fire can strike me while that spell is active.  I also had a resist fire spell running making me and my carried apparel immune to fire.. so even grenades with shrapnel cannot harm me.. save perhaps the concussive wave knocking me down or the air out of me from impact.  Only direct physical blows in melee can harm me and, as you can see, I'm Very heavily armored.  And then Captain Mary calmed... and kissed me ~ Very Hard.. and I must say very unexpectedly.. HARD enough to make my toes curl!"

She flushed visibly at the memory, but she kept her eyes on Teruo still smiling.

As for her share of the Pirate Loot she opened her loot duffel to reveal...

His items, such as his ancestral blade, are much less impressive as well, and his armour is significantly less. Something more advanced would be useful...

"Well magic can be wielded by most sentient beings based upon the mana levels of the environs or the realm.  Think of mana as the spiritual energy that pervades the universe... kind of like the atmosphere we breathe, warmth from the sun and gravity from the planet are part of the physical world.  Spiritual energy is part of that same balance.. but some places have higher or lower levels of this spiritual energy.. just like the world has different environments some very hot some very cold and some without air same is true spiritual energy as well.  There are high mana and no mana locations the level of the mana's natural presence in a realm determines how common those beings and creatures that can wield magic are.  Some races and special individuals resonate and feel the mana levels in their environment more easily than other's less so gifted.  Anyone can learn to cast spells... but those talented with the magery ability, they naturally resonate and can feel the mana, and thus can more easily wield it in lower mana zones.  In a high mana zone even those without the magery talent can cast spells."

"Elves are purported to be the 'First Children' to awaken to creation sharing a close relation to the power of the Fey ~ natural magical beings with Vast magical power and that because of such are much more sensitive as a race to the mana of the world.. all Elves are naturally gifted with magery.  I'm not sure I believe in all that 'First Children' stuff.. but there is no doubt that those with Elven blood  are naturally gifted with magery.  Same goes for me, my elven blood gifts me with magery... but I'm also naturally gifted with sun magery the very sunlight resonates with my spirit and my magic is more powerful in direct sunlight."

"In your case normally anyone can learn magic, but to those not 'naturally' talented with magery, it can take much time and disciple in meditation and study to open their spirit to resonate with the world's mana to learn to open themselves to the mana to wield magic by gaining magery.  Some just never develop the talent... but some, after years of meditation and training can open their spirit to resonate to the world's mana and learn to master that resonance to become spellcasters.  It's personal and one can never know how long it would take or what would awaken the individual to the mana of the realm.  Which is why many schools of magic are in isolated natural locales to allow the students time awake from distractions to open themselves through meditation and mental exercises to learn to 'feel' the mana about them.  Some can learn quickly some never learn."

"I never had to 'learn' to open myself to the mana. I know the techniques and how to teach them.. but my elven blood gives me the magery ability plus, as my mother told me, I'm also very specially naturally gifted."

"But in short yes, I could attempt teach anyone to wield magic, but there is no way of knowing how long or if they could master the 'gift'.  This world is a normal mana level so you would have to awaken your spirit to magery first to 'feel' the mana before you could begin to cast spells.  I could not say how long that would take, some train for years and it never happens.. some only a few weeks... its individual to the person."

Looking at his katana and noting his mediocre demeanor she touches his hand, "Never discount the value of your family traditions and ancestral possession...what I wouldn't give wield MY father's broadsword in battle... this enchanted blade Thorrarlun gave me because he prefers axes.  I've never seen my father.. to this day I still seek him."

She grins, "But as for your armor.. I'm surprized yours is not like my modern armor. I was armed and armored by the Princesses' military personally equipped me.. I'll introduce you to Sharn Tuskbreaker, the Orc.. she was quite helpful!"

Teruo is intrigued by the discourse on magic as his mind struggles to understand the foreign ideas.

"Thank you for being willing to teach me. Does it take long to learn? I would be happy to give as much time as it might take..."

As she handled his ancestral blade, it was almost as if she were handling him, and Teruo blushed at her touch.

"Family is very important. Though I am not aware of any powers it gives in combat.

My armour was modern when I wore it into combat, but some here seem even more advanced. But our training is to avoid getting hit.

Not everyone can do that and I cannot guarantee success... but I can show you The Way. YOU, however are the only one who may walk it."

"The knowledge I would impart to you... will change you, it will open you to levels of consciousness and the attention of mystical entities beyond your understanding and perhaps even comprehension.  The Path of the Wizard... is perilous... and not for the weak-willed, but you need not walk it entirely alone. I will assist where I may. What wizard's do... matter.. and the karma of existence ~ holds them to a higher standard than others not as so enlightened to the true nature of reality. Choose carefully."

She ponders but does not touch his family Katana without permission but shakes her head at his self-deprecation, "...I would rather face a thousand curs with razor sharp-cleavers, than one man with pride of family and heritage with his father's sword in hand defending his honor and the things he loves.  Its not the weapon's magic one should fear in battle... but the magic within every warrior's beating heart that devotion to family and honor manifest when fighting for his beliefs and loves.  THAT man can Never be defeated in battle... even should he fall!"

Chuckling, "I agree! Don't get hit is the better tactic, which is why I carry a shield!"

Trina takes the curved blade in hand examining its curved single edge noting its was similar to many very ancient elven warblade styles ~ when the elves of Yurth were a dominant empire, if a little too light in weight.

But she pays it only a brief examination stepping close to Teruo... well within the social 'polite' space of Japanese culture.

Trina's eyes twinkle with a not-so-hidden delight at Teruo's touch and she shifts her stance subtly to lean into his touch but her tone is sober as she places a hand upon his chest over his heart forestalling him coming any closer as she speaks, "..Then I think with my help and instruction you may be able to eventually break through your block and embrace the magic.  But, now I'm your... Instructor.. so a level of decorum and professional distance is required.  I'm certain there will be time for pleasure once our mutual goal of opening your mind to the mana is achieved."

She grins for him and finishes with, "We will start .. tomorrow with mental calming and meditation exercises to start you on the course of awakening your sensitivity to the mana of the world.  There are tried and true mental exercises you must meditate upon to attune your mind to 'feel' the magic around you.  I never had to do but the most cursory of such mental exercises as those with elven blood can naturally feel the mana currents in their surrounding.  But with time and patience we can get you to opening your consciousness to the same sensitivity. I must prepare you a Grimoire of mystical sigils for you to meditate upon.. before we begin.. I'll start on that tonight."

Mary has been ... busy sorting through all the loot and the provisions.  Almost all of it was useful to a would-be Sea Raiding 'Reaver Queen'... but the important stuff that was priceless has to be gathered first!  Likely all of it was still 'accessible' to Mary and her crew if this negotiated deal Trina had promised to try to work out between the princess and the Reaver Crew.  Mary smiled at that... if THIS was the kind of hall she could expect.. her goals were not so far away as she might have feared.

But what was needed well and truly was to prove the Razortooth and her crew could deliver on some quick sea victories taking out a few pirate ships to show they had what it took to put some REAL hurt on the Self-styled "Pirate King".  Hopefully with Trina's magic that would be easier than Mary feared...
