Yes, none of the characters have met before.

I'm pretty excited about this group so far - lots of very interesting and unique characters. No doubt you'll have a lot of fun learning (and trying to figure out) each other's backgrounds.

What's even cooler (for me, at least) is that you all have varying degrees of familiarity with the Inquisitor. Some will have worked with the Inquisitor before, some will have barely met the Inquisitor at all. I think that will help create an interesting dynamic among the party.

For those that do have history with the Inquisitor, I'll provide you some details on how the Inquisitor tends to behave, and what they expect from you, as you'd have already gained this knowledge through experience.

Some of you will also have heard different rumors about the Inquisitor, whether true or not is hard to say.

I added the following house rule to the rules thread. If you've already made/are making your character, feel free to adjust based on this new rule:

-If you have a non-characteristic aptitude that overlaps another non-characteristic aptitude, you can choose any aptitude as a replacement (instead of only choosing a characteristic aptitude).

Just out of curiosity, will anyone be randomly generating their characteristics?

I have. Aside from one little anomaly, it turned out pretty much how I wanted. The problem I have with point-buy, is that you end up with something that looks bland; every stat is either 25, 30, 35 or 40. Why would you have any other value? At least with rolling you have those 39's and 27's. If all your stats are in 5% increments, why bother using d% when you could just use a d20 instead? You also only have a 1/100 chance of getting 40 in any given stat when rolling; using point buy, you can technically have 4 stats at 40, if you're willing to hard-dump all the others (i.e. if you min-max). For me, 40 in a stat should represent something pretty special. Using point-buy takes away that "special" factor.

Oddly enough, I much prefer point-buy in D&D, but almost abhor it for DH. Go figure.

And then your average roll is an 8. With only two stats above thirty. The RNG is an asshat and can suck it. It's a mutual hatred.

Yeah, I've had enough bad luck with the RNG that I didn't want to chance it. My divination was bad enough. XD

Huh? Strict average on 2d10 is an 11. Due to the bell-curve, you're a touch more likely to roll all stats above 30, than have a majority under. It sucks that there's a chance that you'll roll under 25 (the minimum from point-buy), but the odds are pretty good to get a superior array than point-buy offers.

At least you got one of the... 'Better' Malignancies. I have a fun story about this from my first ever Dark Heresy Game, 1st ed. First ever character, I knew nothing about 40k, and rolled a 1 on the divinations. Ended up with Unnatural Strength x2. That was hilarious.

In reply to Alyth Tarrin (msg # 13):

Oh, I know what the average roll is.

It's just not anywhere near what I rolled. Like I said, when your average roll is 8 and you only roll two stats above 30, the RNG is an asshat.

Edit: Eh, slightly better than 8. And it's 3 stats above 30. Still kinda hilariously below average and below point buy.

Rolled for my character's characteristics. Worked out for the most part.

Re: OOC Thread
I've switched the die roller default to d10, since there's been quite a few accidental +2d20 rolls.

When everyone is finished with character creation, I will set the default to d100.

You could use the Warhammer test system, just know that it will give you the wrong value for DoS so I will always need to see your roll and your target number.

DoS in DH2e is calculated as the difference between the tens place of your target number, and the tens place of your roll (+1 DoS for passing, +1 DoF for failing).

In other words, if your target number is 40 and you roll a 40, you have 1 degree of success. If you rolled a 31-39, you have 2 degrees of success.

Yeah, 2nd Ed is weird with the DoS. They seriously need to stop changing that.

Re: OOC Thread
I think that if you use "Only War Test System" or something to that effect it will calculate DoS properly for you. Take that with a grain of salt though.

Re: OOC Thread
I fudged a few rolls to see. It gets the +1 for passing right, but doesn't properly subtract the tens place.

It is too bad that FFG kept changing the method for determining degrees of success, but I have to say that I like DH2e's system the best.

In reply to Sister Phyria (msg # 18):

Aye, it doesn't work sadly. Only War still does DoS based on every ten. 30 under a TN of 60 would be 4 DoS in OW and 31-39 under TN 61 would only be 3 DoS.

With 2e 30-39 under TN 60 would be 4 DoS. Makes it a lot faster to calculate, but I'm still not sure I like it.
