We need better intell. Someone should go scout out the orcs. We need to know how much time we have and how many orcs we have coming. Melina, can you dispatch a few scouts?

I suggest that Panian goes to Poisson and other nearby towns to rally them to defend Melvaunt.

Someone should ride directly for Melvaunt and warn the townspeople to begin preparing. Nymeria and Remos, I think. Remos, you should go there and start healing as many people as you can.


Someone should lead a party out on the Glister Road to set some ambushes and slow or hinder the orc approach. I volunteer for the Glister Road detail, but I'll need men - some bowmen and some axemen. Melina, how many men can you spare? If time allows, I'll go first to Melvaunt and set out on the Glister Road from there. If the orcs have already mobilized, I'll take the back road immediately. What do we know of their movement?

Can we summon Horvack? I could use his help on the Glister Road.

Sounds good, Theodoric, I’ll head to Poisson first and then the Keep, then Phlen, then Melvaunt.

I worry about there being a diversion to Melvaunt though, and that Poisson is the real target. Poisson is a stronghold of a city, and so I worry that there will be a fient south to Melvaunt, with the mainline force headed to Poisson.

I think Theo and Krysnys should work on a choke point at those crossroads, ans really block off the western route to Poisson. I’d like Charani to come with me to help rally people at Poisson and other towns with her stirring songs. She’s the most inspirational of our lot. Loranys is the wild card. I think she would probably be best suited at Melvaunt helping Nymeria, particularly because Nymeria has otherworldly powers, but does not posess the Martial weaponry skills that Loranys does. There may need to be some basic training. Or Loranys could go to bolster the crossroad defense/ambush, or come with us to Poisson... what do you think, Loranys?

Great. We could use 50 fighters. Please tell one scout to find us on the road and the other should report back here. Our group will set out tomorrow morning.

We could actually use 100 or more fighters - melee and range fighters. Axe weilders would be good for felling trees. But we'll take what we can get. We'll need spade shovels too. And each fighter should carry rope, oil, flint and steel. We'll go on foot. I want our range fighters to be outfitted with materials for flaming arrows. Each fighter will need to carry enough food for several days.

The dire wolves can come with me.

Ossal, maybe you should stay here, take care of the horses and wait for Melina to return when this is over. I'll send the wolves back with her once Melvaunt is safe.

I'm glad you are back with your direwolves! This sounds great. Do you think I can, logistically, carry both my axe and my mace? Use the axe for any damage requiring chopping, but the mace for fighting? I'm not used to carrying 2 weapons of this size, but you regularly have 2 larger weapons. I'm such a short stack.

True. Maybe Melina can spare two squires to carry your weapons for you. We need to be light and quick on this mission.

Melina can definitely spare 2 squires to go with you and Theo to help with carrying things.

Melina: I only have 50 fighters. Most are melee but I have a dozen that are experts with ranged weapons. Barid Drussu is my most trusted of human fighters. He is willing to go with you and give you insight on the other men (strengths/weaknesses). I would trust him with my life and now yours. I have the shovels, axes, rope, oil, flint and steel. I also have two amulets that I have been working on. I have been trying to create a talisman that will block out the mind control of Gruumsh. I was hoping to have Anneal get one on Argens, but she was lucky to get back to me with her life. If not for your Thalia all would have been lost. She is so happy to see you. I have never seen a dire wolf pine so much for a human. Her heart is whole now that you are home. Be safe on the road. I will tell the scouts to report to you, me and Panian. May the God of light and all that is pure in the world look down and guard you. Safe travels Krysnys. I will keep in touch mentally with you and let you know how things are going.

Once the others have decided what they want to do, I’ll set off for Poisson. Theo, if I get there and I feel confident in our numbers from Poisson and the other two towns, would you want me to send 50 (or what I can spare) fighters or ranged weapon soldiers to the crossroads to help?
