Chapter Two: Seaharrow
In reply to Mr Warlock (msg # 5):

(OOC-Ok, some of questions:

One, can I use repair to find good locations to shop? Or common knowledge?

Two, would it make a difference if I do all the work on these things myself, rather than buying premade items? I figure the raw stuff may be easier to get.

Three-of the group, I am the only one who can pass for human. If that makes a difference. I have no appearance based flaws.)

Chapter Two: Seaharrow
1) *taps chin* I'll allow Common Knowledge in place of Streetwise to find a blacksmith. I like it. :) Get a +2 cuz you're a blacksmith.

2) Buying it will be cheaper but you gotta make them yourselves. Gonna need an rp scene and making THAT much stuff's gonna pretty much take up all your day. Buuuuuuuut buying enough ingots of iron....... *thinks* Ok, iron's not hard at all to come by. Acquisitions roll, +2 to the roll. Iron's cheap and plentiful. And cold iron is both easy (you don't need a forge) and hard (knowing how to strike it without breaking it. remember, cold-wrought iron never touches a fire, so its shaped purely by beating the living shit out of it. Which is harder than it sounds. I blacksmith myself, soooo.........). We'll get to that when we do.

3) Out of the rest of them, sure ya look more human. But golems are huge, hulking things, and your face is all scarred and shit. Even flesh golems are pretty nasty and hard to pass. That said, a Stealth check would let you pass as just a fucking huge human.........

Chapter Two: Seaharrow
After some time in Seaharrow, you finally find not really a shopping mart, but really just a craftsmen plaza. You smell the pungent aroma of foods you've never smelled before, such strange meats and spices. In fact, in one place, you find a rather popular stall or three of Shogunate men selling, of all things, slices of raw fish with some rice on the side. Weird...

All in all, the air of Seaharrow is almost like a different world. A mix of Sakuran and Nord people blending into such a tight space is a total culture shock to your Mordentish experiences. In fact, you feel, even moreso than just a normal Accursed (if such a thing could be), isolated and different among these people. Some Mordentish people do appear in the throngs, but just as often you find a short, pale Sakuran or a massive, blonde giant Nord. It's truly overwhelming at times.

Another feeling you get is the oppression itself. Once, Seaharrow was a Morden town, mostly Gradnaki-stock. But since the War, both the Sakuran and Nord remnant armies have completely taken over, affirming their myriad cultures among those from Steppengard and other. Patrols, alternating between the laquered plate and exotic weapons of the Shogunate and the hides and massive brutal weaponry of the Nords, has you ducking and weaving often, to avoid any particular notice.

Finally, however, you find what you seek. A massive Nord man, as large as yourself, is busy hammering over a hot forge. You feel the familiar pangs of the forge-life, a life long lost to you. You almost feel your hands again, gripping the hammer, working the bellows, and an echo of laughter, a child's mirth, haunts your ears, bringing back painful memories that are now, literally, stitched into your own flesh.

Stuck in your painful revere, haunted by the laughter of children you will never again hold in your hands, tormented as their flesh on your body still digs at your conciousness, the Nord stops hammering and looks at you. His eyes are burnished steel color, his long light brown hair done in a thick, bristly braid, held back from his scalp by a twisted cord, he wearing only thick hide pants and a leather apron. Massive boots adorn feet perhaps even more impressive than your own. In fact, despite the fact you're made from several people, this guy almost dwarfs YOU. And that's impressive.

"Can I help you, big guy?"

Chapter Two: Seaharrow
In reply to Mr Warlock (msg # 9):

Thomas sometimes thought he could hear his wife and his children's voices sometimes. However, being like this meant the other memories-the good ones-where somewhat muted. Fading. The painful ones remained-included how they all died. Those ones he could never escape-and even the Crone did not seem willing to remove them from him. 'Rage is far better for a warrior than happy memories of peace.' She said with that cold smile of hers. 'Besides, they will always be with you...now...'She would cackle when asked.

"Huh, what?" He asked, suddenly realizing where he was. "Ah...yes, I am here to get some iron. Special job, just need a few ingots. Custom work that needs particular crafting." He said, keeping his tone sounding bored and ordinary.

In reply to Mr Warlock (msg # 11):

Thomas got what money he had. It was easy to save. After all, it was not like he spent money for food, drink, or even a place to stay. He was meant to be a unstoppable warrior after all, and troops that had no physical needs where want the Crone had wanted.

Chapter Two: Seaharrow
The nord walks over and pokes through the coins, grunting. "Don't much take Morden currency here, but them Gradnaki still insist using it, so..." He counts the coins, then grunts. "Bout enough here for an ingot or two. Not much. Iron's in high demand, what with the undead all over." You catch a thoughtful look, as if he's considering asking something.

Chapter Two: Seaharrow
In reply to Mr Warlock (msg # 13):

"Understandable." He said, nodding. Given how his nature cause fire to burn him even more than it normally did, he did not do a lot of forge work anymore. He often made 'cold' items the hard way when he had to. Granted he had not worked iron with the reason to make it weapons. Just that it was easier to mold without using flame.

He kept all that to himself, and waited for the smith to say something.  He half expected to be asked about his scars. They frightened people...but if the saw under his clothes no doubt they would be terrified.

Chapter Two: Seaharrow
He paused, knowing the risk of fire. However, he could repair any damage he took fairly easily. Besides, he would need the time to forge the items he wanted-and those tools where hard to come by. Even his tools where more for multi-purpose use rather than for specifics.

"Sounds fair to me..." He nodded. He just had to make sure he did not burn himself or expose the majority of his skin to view. If that happened, he had no doubt the fire would be aimed at him rather than accidentally burning himself.

Chapter Two: Seaharrow
The giant nord claps you on the shoulder, grinning massively. "Good! Good!"

You spend the day working the forge, and soon the sun begins eclipsing the horizon. The forge fires are barely beginning to dim as the nord, who you learn is named Arngrimur, or just Arn to his friends, is pretty chatty as he works, and a jovial man for a former conquerer. You discover he and his family came across on boat from the nord regions, his head filled with stories of great glory and riches beyond the frozen iceburgs of his homeland. Unfortunately, he quickly found he was on the wrong side, especially when the Djinn fell, and was forced to stay in Seaharrow as his wife was pregnant at the time. Oh and also recovering from a great battle too. Damn these Nord are tough...

While not apologetic in the least for his people's mayhem, he does regret the current town's stance on outsiders. He came to respect the Mordentish people, especially the stout Gradniki, which he views as long-lost kindred. You find out the status of Seaharrow (refer to the Seaharrow portion in Worlds of Morden), and while he respects the Shogunate, he fears their xenophobia may cause... issues. You also hear that he, offhandedly, mentions that strange envoys have been coming to Turtle Rock, the massive water-bown fortress the Shogunate occupies. He doesn't like the look of them, he says. They feel... wrong. As if they were not of this world, and the world itself is trying to reject them. Half the shogunate look at the strangers in terror, the other in remembered hope.

You find yourself trundling back to the outside encampment, arms laden in cold-worked goods, and mind bristling with news.

So, gonna say you got enough for a sickle blade with a screwable attachment for Aatami's haft, a bayonet that can replace your spearhead, two daggers, and 20 cold-wrought bullets. He liked you and your work, and was pretty generous. You also find a letter addressed to you, Thomas, from Arn.

Chapter Two: Seaharrow
In reply to Mr Warlock (msg # 17):

Thomas gathers his things together, and the new information Arn had told him. As he worked, and Arn introduced his family Thomas felt a dagger of ice pierce his insides. Arn, a man who had shown him only kindness and decency brought him pain by merely being happy. There was part of Thomas who wanted to trade Arn's life with his existence. Make him walk in dead flesh and the dead flesh of his family forever stitched on his hide. Thomas knew it was wrong. He should be happy for Arn and his loved ones. But the boiling rage and envy inside him was like acid torching his insides. The witches are cruel-but not as cruel as the gods. He thought to himself.

It was unfair, unfair to Arn. Maybe Thomas could make it up to him by ending the threat to Arn's people. He unpacked the work, and began giving it out to the others. Then he looked upon the letter, and proceeded to open it.

OOC-Did I make the replica hand or claw I can use when my real hand goes 'wandering?'

Sure. Deals 1d4 damage. Choose now if you wanna deal slashing (claws) or bludgeoning damage (slam attack) with the appendage.

The message is in a simple hand. I like you. Despite what you are. Yes I know. Been a soldier too long to not notice some things. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. Let me give you one more piece of advise. While our people do not like your kind, we do respect Strength. If you need help here, show no shame for what you are or what you have done, be strong, do not relent. We will respect you more for it. Speak to our Jarl. I do not lie, you will have to prove yourself. But you will go farther with the Nords than the slant-eyes.

And if you ever need work again, let me know. My forge is yours.

Your friend,
Arn

Nuka accepted the new, cold iron bullets with, well, it wasn't quite gratitude, but it was approaching it, at least from the physician.

"Good, good.  Maybe actually harm foul things with shooting."  They paused, studying Thomas for a moment before adding, "Will be careful not shoot not foul dead ones."

In reply to Nuka (msg # 20):

"Iron does not concern me." Thomas said, shaking his head and reading the letter again. "I have a message from the man who let me use his tools. He suggests if we declare ourselves openly to his leader, we can win their friendship through some sort of test." He folds the letter up again and looks at the others. Knowing they had little chance for passing as human.

"While I trust him, I think he may put too much faith in his people. That being said, it will be easier to stand against Toriyamo's witch with additional help then purely on our own. What do you all think? Its a risk ether way."

Akane raises an eyebrow. "He suggests Valdrsdottr? She... She frightens me. All rage, fury, strength... She feels... She is a superior race of Man. All others are weak and pathetic under her... If you can convince her, Nords are strong, yes, and more likely to fight the Ogress than the Sakurans... Thousand hells be, they may welcome the challenge. They remember the ogres, after all. These people, they train since before dawn, swim in freezing waters, and fight each other until in hospital, then get up next day and do it again... Nords are... scary. But deadly."

Aatami took the blade and fitted it to his pole. He genuinely marveled at the work Thomas had done "my thanks to you master Smith. Your skill at the forge will keep us safe in battle" he gave Thomas a sweeping bow and moved off once again to patrol the perimeter of their camp.

Thomas blinks. "Soooo...is that a vote to reveal ourselves or not or...something else?" He asked. While speaking, he pops off his left hand as if it always removed that way. With no no or injury involved.

Once off, the hand moved like a spider down his let onto the floor while he placed his new artifical claw and it's clamp like grip. Activated by means of a cable attached to the mechanism on the claw and looping around his arm.

Akane nods slightly. "Your friend is right. From what little I see of Nord, they respect violence, strength. Hide, you seem weak. And nothing stronger than Nord, in Nord mind, and if you weak, you nothing." She sighs as she runs a hand through her hair. "Will be hard, yes..."

"Well...normally I would not be in favor of bringing innocent people into our war. But it does seem like a wasted opportunity. We must not get our hopes up. In the end, the Nords are as human as any other." He paused. "Most others, anyways." He sighed, and reattached his hand. "Alright-time to put on a show. We go to Arn as we are, in full daylight. Let's hope he and his friends don't pull out the torches right away..." He said-only half joking.

Nuka looked around their small gathering, then shrugged thin shoulders beneath their robe.  "Not be impressive unless beat heads in, but can fix big things after heads beaten in," they stated, levering themselves to their feet and shuffling forward with bag in hand.
