Mayon Graycross:
Apparently I need to sacrifice a small child to the dice gods now because that's two Nat 1's in a row that I've rolled with the dice roller. Sigh.

Mayon, you had cast Mage Armor already - it's free to recast so no worries, but if you want you could do something different.

Re: OOC

DM, if you need any clarification on what would spook Dweeble, just ask.  I figured I'd leave it to your judgement.

Also, I've always been a little iffy on improvised damage with a flask of oil.  I'm not sure if it applies since it says in the PHB what happens with a flask of oil is thrown and hits.  It's also for this reason I am assuming it wouldn't deal sneak attack damage as well.

Re: OOC

DM:
Jak, what attack are you readying if something/one comes out of the stones? Go ahead and roll for it (if applicable) in case your readied action triggers.

Ah, good question. Ol' Reliable - Vicious Mockery! I shall taunt them a second time!

I...can't really make out anything on the map, so...I'll move forward towards the center of the room a bit to try and be in range with the spell.

Ah, I forgot it lasted so long! I'll edit my post once ??? has their turn then, I forgot to we were in initiative now, hehe. Probably going to be either attacking or dodging.

Given the new circumstances, decided to just straight up delete-and-rewrite the post. The plot thickens! :P

Don't worry, Mayon!  We'll get you up on this stone one way or another.

On a side note, when Mayon was explaining his Patron situation and dreams, Dweeble wasn't actually there.

Re: OOC

Oh definitely!  I just wanted to point that out so you, and Mayon, know she's not simply being rude or forgetful.  Then again, you might just want to steer clear of a proper explanation.  You start telling her about your dreams and she'll feel apt to share her own.  And everyone knows by now that Dweeble's mind is an oddity to say the least!

I'll post a mid-round update (including Larrakh's turn) later today.

Re: OOC

Thems some hot and cold rolls recently:
Jak's 5d8: 1,8,1,8,1.
Morg's last 2 CON saves: 1, 20.
Maybe Mayon's 2 natural 20s are just a bit delayed after the 2 crit fails and a 5 ;P

Re: OOC

Hey Morg.  I don't see it in the house rules anywhere but I know that from the PHB you can only deal nonlethal damage with a melee attack.  Not sure if the DM has a different perspective on that or not though!

My perspective is you can always deal non-lethal damage with a melee attack, and you can try to do so with a ranged attack ;)

How about with spells? Because I'd like to try and keep Larrakh alive but...well, I have veeeery limited options unless I want to risk using my Terrible Melee skill.

That's fair enough and makes sense to me!  I was just pointing out that I didn't see or know of anything special for that so I figured I'd bring it up.

I figured that melee weapons like javelins with the thrown property, are still melee attacks when thrown because you add your strength modifier, tho it's possible that thrown attacks count as ranged attacks for the purposes of knock outs.

PHB p.147 states "If a weapon has the thrown property, you can throw the weapon to make a ranged attack", so when thrown it still uses the strength modifier, is still a melee weapon, but the attack is a ranged attack.

Re: OOC

In reply to Morg Danforge (msg # 838):

PHB pg. 198 says "When an attacker reduces a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack, the attacker can knock the creature out."  So it's not really the type of weapon that matters so much as the type of attack.

Of course, the DM already gave his opinion on the matter and the actual 5e rule isn't relevant because of it!  I just wanted to make that point in case you wanted to not throw the javelin and possibly kill him.  Assuming of course the rule was the 5e standard which the DM has clarified and overruled a bit.

Re: OOC

Just throw the javelin with the spearpoint faced backwards to clonk the guy with the butt-end of the haft for a ranged knockout punch!  That would work perfectly, I'm sure :)

Dwee, thanks for pointing it out - there are now also some feats that turn out to be useful for strength-based fighters.

Bram, Never throw a javelin backwards at a monk tho ;)

In reply to Morg Danforge (msg # 841):

Yeah, totally!  I've been reading the PHB more and more lately so I've been picking up on things in my other games as well.  Figured I'd point it out since we want this guy alive.

Plus, it's given me a lot of ideas on what to do with my Use Object bonus action I get next level!  Assuming of course I don't have a change of heart and just take the plunge for Arcane Trickster.  Still a bit iffy on which to go for sure, though definitely leaning towards Thief.

That's pretty awesome - might even give you advantage on a backwards javelin attack.

Re: spells you can also try to be non- lethal with them but might be hard depending on the spell.

Welp...  That was about 2 damage shy of instant death.  So at least Dweeble isn't dead yet, right?

Dweeble is sticking to Morg's back from now on!  Spectacles is unlucky!  Assuming she gets back up, of course.  =P

19:01, Today: Dweeble rolled 8 using 1d20+1 with rolls of 7.  Constitution Save.

I'm coming back from my trip today (1 day early), which is why I've been radio-silent - I'll most likely wrap up the round & tee up next round tonight or tomorrow. On a plane now and battery about to die!

Oh dang, I totally missed that Bram had Bardic Inspiration!  Is it too late to retroactively use it on the Con save against being mercilessly exploded? :P
