Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Opening the door, the group is greeted by a small group of halflings haggling over a stack of buckets with the proprietor.

Endrith Vallivoe nods the new arrivals and holds up a short finger as he returns to conversing with the halflings. Their negotiations appear to be wrapping up.

Posting this as a new thread just in case the conversation with the constable continues or if some folks want to skip the constable and go straight here.

Vallivoe's Sundries (in case you've forgotten) has most equipment items from the PHB at list prices and perhaps a few odds and ends not on the lists, as well as some armor and weapons. Anything not available here may be available elsewhere in Red Larch.

If you want to buy anything here you can post it in character or as OOC if you prefer, and obviously you can also interact with Vallivoe himself as an NPC.

Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Morg, still conflicted about what Harburk said, looks around the store and gathers 2 javelins, a mining pick, a few iron spikes, 2 candles, some string, and a bell.

After paying, he asks the party "Would anyone like to join me in looking for a mule at the wagon shops?"

Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Mayon begins browsing the shop quietly, searching for anything that could be useful as spell components in the future. He also grabs some sealing wax for the letter home he intends to write.

Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Vallivoe finishes up with the other customers and turns his attentions to the new arrivals. Several local children look to be assisting the halflings with carrying out their purchases.

"Quite a collection," he murmurs as Mayon and Morg begin setting items they've discovered amongst the aisles onto the table for purchase.

As he counts out coins, he leans in to Jak and his companions conspiratorially. "I've heard word from Ms. Windsong - a mutual acquaintance of Jak and myself," the shopkeeper explains to the others, almost shyly. "There are reports of bandits attacking travelers from winged creatures, just to the east of here. A little ways into the Sumber Hills. She thought you might like to know."

Purchase summary:
Morg: 4 gp, 5sp, 4cp
Mayon: TBD, let me know what you decide to buy

Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Bramwell strode into the shop with a particular purpose in mind.  He waited patiently for for the halfling bucket business to be concluded, then approached Vallivoe directly.  "Good afternoon, Vallivoe.  I am glad to see that business is thriving, considering the recent troubles."  The Glyphscribe glanced about the shop in search of the tome he sought, and then turned back to the shopkeeper to ask, "Have you still that fine Dwarvish tome you offered to hold for me?  The Histories of the Dwarf Clans of Mirabar, by Bruldenthar?  I now have the agreed-upon twenty five gold, and am interested in making the purchase."

Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Mayon grabbed the small thing of sealing wax for the letter, then paused and turned thoughtfully. He then walked over and grabbed a small pouch of spell components, quite a lot of them too, and went to pay for them.

Mayon is purchasing sealing wax and 10 GP of charcoal, herbs, and incense. So I think that's 15 gold?

Vallivoe smiles. "I have it right here," he says, reaching below the counter and handing the tome over to Bram.

Loot thread updated.

Mayon, the sealing wax is 5 sp, so your total is 10 gp, 5 sp.

Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Dweeble entered the small shop after the group of halflings had already left. As she walked after Mayon, browsing the wares, she couldn't help but habitually look for the most expensive items secured by the cheapest locks. Things that could be worth the risk. Things that could be  turned into a profit if you knew the right buyer. She had to physically shake her head to clear the thoughts. "What'cha buying, things for magics?" She curiously glanced at what sort of components Mayon was picking.

She decided to make her own round of browsing for spell components, but quickly gave up. There was so much more, and in such variety, that she didn't know what to pick. Instead she approached the owner. "I'm looking for... feathers. No wait... crickets! No wait..." She grabbed her stack of notes again and started reading out the different requirements for each spell she had written down. ".. a firefly, salt, a bit of fleece, a glowworm, copper wire, a drop of mercury, a dollop of gum arabic, a wisp of smoke, tiny tarts. Don't forget the tiny tarts! A feather..."
Basically looking for a component pouch.

Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Bemused, Vallivoe collects the ingredients and hands over a pouch full of them to Dwee. "That amounts to 25 gold," he says kindly.

Re: Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Jak browsed a bit, but didn't have anything especially that he needed at the moment...and well, wanting things and him were old friends. He always wanted more things, though he didn't need them.

As the shopkeep spoke to him, his eyebrows shot upwards in surprise. Then his face slid in to a frown. "Oh they are, are they? We'll just have t'do somethin' about that when we can." Pause. "Winged creatures, though, eh? That's cool....an'...problematic. Hmm." He began pondering how the group could take on flying bandits.

Re: Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Bram takes his leave of the shop and visits the Allfaith Shrine on the way back to the inn. The two wide doors leading into the stone edifice are painted with the symbols of many gods. They stand open to the street as a few townfolk and travels pass between them.

Inside the pews, Bram pages through the Dwarvish tome. Chapters full of family trees and crests fill the pages, along with long treatises and histories of the accomplishments of prominent clan members.

"Oh, if ya get a chance, please pass on that I received the message an'...uh..." He looked slightly embarrassed, "...I miss her company." He gave a nod and quickly headed out of the store.

He went to the bathhouse for a bath and then back to the inn to sleep until early dinner time before the quarry investigation.

Re: Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Morg wanders the town, looking at the buildings without entering, to see what kinds of establishments there are.

Finding an open spot, he tests his new javelins, preparing to fight any possible bandits on winged creatures.
Trying to figure out what buildings 4, 9, 12, 13, 17, and 19 are for.

Re: Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Morg notes various town landmarks as he wanders.

Directly across the street from Vallivoe's Sundries sits a rundown warehouse that reeks with an eye-watering, throat-closing stench. A sign on the dilapidated front proclaims it as Luruth's Tannery.

A few doors down sits a small shop named Ironhead Arms, advertising both new and used arms and armor. Nearby, a plain square building covered with white dust adjoins a path leading into the hill behind. It seems to be an office of some type, as only a small sign sits in the window. It says "Dornen Finestone".

There are fewer travelers on the side streets of town. Several local Red Larchers pass each other exchanging pleasantries and gossip while they go about their errands. Morg notes that Gaelkur's is particularly well populated with locals, both inside and out. Through the open door of the seedy wooden building, the dwarf can see numerous lounging customers, most of them men clustered around a barber's area. The shop also appears to sell used goods and tools, and a bar sits near the back with a few patrons sitting on its stools even at midday.

Another haphazardly built structure houses Mother Yalantha's. Its three stories sprout balconies and outside staircases in no apparent rhyme or reason. It advertises itself as a boarding house, presumably a lower-cost alternative to the Swinging Sword.

The din of forge hammers rings out from another building, this one built of sturdy stone. Tantur's Smithy is stained with soot, and sports massive twin stone blocks at either end of its structure that rise into tall, wide chimneys.

Finally, Morg ends up at the deserted market area to try out the balance on his new javelins. A single half-orc sits next to several vats at the end of the field, making pickles.

Morg keeps his eye on the half-orc, and after testing the new javelins he walks back to Tantur's Smithy. Looking inside, he tries to see what the blacksmith's working on, and if his work's any good.

Re: Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Inside the smithy an older man works non-stop next to one younger man and two young ladies.  Hasps, locks, chains, hinges, and other metal parts for wagons and dwellings seem to be in-progress, as well as a number of repairs to tools and weapons. After observing the well-muscled smiths, Bram concludes they are quite skilled.

Re: Day 4.2 Vallivoe's Sundries

Inside Ironhead Arms is a fairly extensive display of armor and weapons, both new and used. Morg recognizes the half-orc inside the shop from lunch at the Swinging Sword. He is apparently the proprietor.
