Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

"Well, if he carried them even in here, they're probably important." Mayon says, shaking his head a bit, giving Bram and Dweeble a quick grin. "You can keep those ones if you want. I'd rather just get back to town...though..."

His expression darkens a bit. "After what that boy Braelen said about people in town being involved with this, cult, I'm not sure who all we can trust there. I suppose we should tell the constable, but for all we know he's part of this mess as well. I hope the only ones involved were the ones down here in the first place."

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

After a brief respite, the group retraces their steps and returns to the stone doors. The southern passage leads to a long stone tunnel that ends in a pit covered by a stone bench with a hole in it. The privy appears to be unused for quite a long time.

Map updated.

The short rest finishes without incident. Anyone who wants to take hit dice go ahead & include that in your next post. Remember to recharge anything that recharges during a long rest.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Refreshed from the short respite, Dweeble itched at the stained piece of fabric that was wrapped around her forehead.  The tight bandage had helped keep her head from ringing, or so she thought, and she was absolutely certain she hadn't simply needed a chance to rest her racing heartbeat and calm her nerves from her short bout of unconsciousness.  She still carried Reszur in her grip.  Her little fingers apparently didn't wish to be separated from the weapon.

As the group found their way to the privy, Dweeble turned and looked up at the others with a light shake of her head.  "I told you we should have visited those hungry little rats instead!  Or did you all need to take another break?  Dweeble don't mind, she'll wait out in the hall."  She waved her hand quickly to the others and walked a few feet away towards the exit.  She wasn't silly enough to leave the group.  She merely didn't want to see anything her wide eyes weren't prepared for.

Dweeble is back up to full after the rest.

11:26, Today: Dweeble rolled 7 using 1d8+1 with rolls of 6.  Resting - Hit Die.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Mayon glanced around the small room with raised eyebrows, feeling a bit better after the brief respite they'd gotten. The room seemed too small to conceal anything dangerous or valuable...and he certainly didn't want to be the one to dig into the privy to check.

"Well, I suppose that answers that question...should we just go to the other side of the hall then?"

Mayon also recovered back to full and regains his expended spell slot:
13:01, Today: Mayon Graycross rolled 3 using 1d8+1 with rolls of 2.  Resting Hit Die.
Ignore the roll before it, I forgot to change the dice. Boy I'd love to have a d20 hit die though.

Bramwell feels much better after an hour's rest, and stands ready to proceed.

Upon the discovery of the privy pit he peers into it and frowns, "Hrm.  This pit may hold a fossilized record of the diet of the ancient dwarves of Tyar-Besil.  I believe I shall leave this discovery to future scholars, however."

When the group approaches the corpse-feasting rats, the Glyphscribe moves to the front, raises his shield and prepares to exterminate the vermin.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Dweeble watched as Asano traced some gobbledygook in the air before a light breeze passed over her head and towards the rats in front of them.  And then Bram was in front of her, shield ready and a look of determination in his eyes.  Dweeble shook her head lightly and poked Bram in the side with the butt end of her dagger before sheathing at her hip.  "Hold on there, Glasses!  Dweeble's spent a lot of time with vermin.  Sure, most of them were technically people, but the principle is the same.  Ya gotta sweet talk 'em!"

Reaching into one of her belt pouches, Dweeble pulled a ration of hard cheese out and broke off enough of a portion to be a mouthful.  Slowly, she moved into the room before someone could tell her not to and before Bram decided to charge in.  "Here chitters and chatters.  Dweeble won't bite ya.  She just wants to share a nice meal and take those pesky shinies that reflect all your lights and stuffs."  She held out the cheese in one hand, her lips parted in a wide grin as she approached the nearest rat.

OOC:  Dweeble's going to do this even if the rats appear to fall asleep due to Asano's spell.  After all, they could be playing opossum, right!?
14:52, Today: Dweeble rolled 14 using 1d20+1 with rolls of 13.  Animal Handling.

Jak's hand went to his pocket, to the small sometimes-moving lump there as some of his companions seem intent on hurting the rats. "Hey hey hey! No need to kill rats! Unless they're evil dire rats that are tryin' t'kill us first or whatever. But not normal lil' rats! We just leave 'em an' move on! Jeez!"

There was a sympathetic squeak from his pocket.

Both rats fall asleep next to the rotting corpse. No movement stirs around the piles of other charnal in the room, including the forms of two additional dead bodies. A slight scuttling noise can still be heard from one wall, however.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Dweeble's eager grin fell to a frown as the rats failed to move or react to the food in her hand.  Magic?  Magic...  No rat friends for Dweeble today, she thought to herself before stepping out further into the room.  She ignored the sounds of scuttling though she crouched low to the ground and scurried from body to body.  She was careful as she slid into the shadow of a body or passed behind a piece of terrain.  All the while her eyes scanned for anything.  With the way her nose was actively sniffing and inhaling, it wasn't a poor assumption to think she was trying to smell out some form of loot.  Perhaps the treasure-obsessed rogue had a true affinity for the shiny objects she so desperately craved?

OOC:  Dweeble is going to move out into the room and search the area for anything that glints or reflects light.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Dweeble cried out in a mixture of surprise and pain as the two rats jumped on her and quickly chomped on her arms and legs.  Reflexes kicking in immediately, she pulled her shiny dagger from her hip and quickly speared the weapon towards the nearest rat.  And then she was moving again, running back towards the other five still waiting at the entrance to the room.  She stayed low to the ground, using her low center of gravity to evade the rats as she danced out of their range.  She quickly turned around as she came back to where she'd been standing previously and shouted, "Oye, you little jerks!  Dweeble was trying to be nice to you!  Now she's going to have you for dinner and use your tails for hair ties!"

Big talk from a little halfling who'd ran away at the first sign of danger.

Attack R5.  Hits AC 10 for 8 damage.  Bonus action to disengage and run back to BD 18.

If only Asano is difficult terrain, then:
Move: 25' to BF18,
otherwise I'll reroll only the damage dice for javelin1, and then (via action surge) attack with javelin2 if R5 is still alive.

Action: attack R5 with warhammer - hits AC 14 for 14 bludgeoning damage.

Bramwell had thought Dweeble would be safe moving into the room with the rats in a magical slumber, but was quickly proven wrong as more scurried from the walls to attack her!  The half-elf pushed into the room just behind Morg and squinted toward the other that still remained conscious and brought his axe down in the general area it seemed to be in.

  • Move to BG16
  • Attack R4 and probably miss with 10 vs. AC, but it's 5 damage on a hit

Jak let out an angry sigh as the others provoked the rats in to attacking and Dweeble paid the price for it. He narrowed his eyes and half-heartedly cast his magical energy at one of the rats, speaking along with it. "They call you vermin, filthy, pieces of shat! I'm sorry we must kill you, friend rat!"

Seeing her allies jump into the fray gave Dweeble the courage, or perhaps simply the cover, to move back in as well.  She quickly pulls another dagger from her belt and flings it at one of the biting bastards that had sank its fangs into her.  Her quick, eager feet carried her to Mayon where she quickly ducked behind the lank, young half-elf.  She peered up at him from his knees, her hunched posture making her a smaller target than usual.  "Hey, Maymay.  Do you like your rat red and juicy or cooked through and through?"

Move to BE 16.  Attack R4, hits AC 12 for a total of 9 damage.  If Mayon kills R4 before the attack goes off, she attacks R2 instead.  She's got a hunger for violence and rat steaks after getting bit!

Hearing Jak, Morg says "These big nasty ones aren't anything like Twitch." before more hammer time.

Afterwards, he goes to have a look in the wall crevices, and for anything that looks like secret doors.
If R4 still attacking, then:
move: 15' to BI16,
otherwise, move to any other attacking rats.

Action: attack R4 (*or other Rs) with warhammer - hits AC 16 for 7 bludgeoning damage.

If any rats still attacking within movement range, then action surge and repeat attack (DM roll please).
