Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

After finishing his menacing speech, Dwee's dagger takes the woe-bringer who spoke in the neck, right below his mask. He collapses to the floor.

Asano's spell drops 2 of the masked folk to the ground. Both begin snoring loudly.

One of the remaining masked figures enters the room and swings his scimitar wildly at Morg. His conscious companions remain in the room beyond however, and produce crossbows. Two bolts sink into Mayon and Morg's flesh in staccato rhythm, and they wince in pain.

The half-orc takes a vicious blast of force in the chest from Mayon, but advances to club Bram in the side.

Mid-round update! Map updated.

Jak and Morg are up now. Technically Jak acts before Grund, so if that becomes relevant I'll retcon it. Morg can also take an opportunity attack vs. Grund if you like.

W1 is dead. W2 & W4 are asleep and prone (denoted in purple).

Bringers of Woe:
W1 is dead.
W2 is asleep.
W3 moves at half speed to BS35 - Bram's readied attack triggers - MISS. W3 attacks Morg with a scimitar - MISS.
W4 is asleep.
W5 moves to BW37 and attacks Mayon with light crossbow - HIT for 5 piercing.
W6 moves to BW36 and attack Morg with light crossbow - HIT for 2 piercing.

Grund moves to BS 38 at half speed and multi-attacks Bram with mace - HITS once for 4 bludgeoning.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

"THIS DELVER'S quite DISpleased by the crude scratches on the stone!" Morg shouts when he sees the masked woe-ers.

"Oi, Pickles..." he says as Grund runs away, piercing the cage dropping half-orc.

Morg then focuses on the scimitar wielding woe-er who tried to slash him, following it, and taking another swing.
Reaction: knock-out (instead of fatal) attack on Grund with war pick* - hits AC 25 for 7 piercing* damage.

Move: to 10' to from BR36 to BR34.

Action: knock-out (instead of fatal) attack on W3 with war pick* - hits AC 11 for 9 piercing* damage.

17:02, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 25 using 1d20+6 with rolls of 19.  Opportunity attack vs Grund with warhammer*.
17:02, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 7 using 1d8+6 with rolls of 1.  Warhammer bludgeoning* damage to vs Grund (opportunity attack).
17:32, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 11 using 1d20+6 with rolls of 5.  Attack W3 with war pick*.
17:32, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 9 using 1d8+6 with rolls of 3.  War pick piercing* damage to W3.

*My first 2 rolls were for the warhammer, but can I swap them out for the war pick instead (also 1d8, but piercing instead of bludgeoning)? The pick seems more fitting for someone calling himself a delver.

Jak stepped forward a bit and narrowed his eyes at the two enemies who had spoken. He started with the one who's name he'd heard. He grinned maliciously as he stepped forward, calling out, "Grund! Grund! He's rotund! Hides from the sun! And he's NO fun!"

OOC: Move to BO-36. Cast Vicious Mockery on Grund.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Dweeble turns towards the half-orc as she seems to notice the behemoth for the first time.  Her eyes narrow and her breathing comes in harsh, gasping inhales as she takes a step towards him.  She pulls her shortsword from her hip, bouncing it eagerly in her hand as she seems drawn to Grund suddenly.

She pauses as a familiar flash of a weapon's steel comes from her peripheral.  Her breathing slows as she turns to see the man attacking Morg, his scimitar the glint that caught her eye.  She turned towards him instead, moving next to Morg and stabbing out angrily with her single blade.  Then she quickly ducks behind the dwarf, her eyes already darting back to the half-orc as she speaks.  "See, Dweeble keeps you safe, Morgy.  You keep Dweeble safe, yeah?  From the orcs who want to keep me locked up.  Safe, yeah yeah?"  Her urgent words are barely more than a whisper but she seems more worried than she probably has a right to be, considering the damage she'd just caused.

Move to BR 35 and make an attack against W3.  Hits AC 23 for 17 damage total.

Then, move to BR 33 and hide behind Morg.

10:32, Today: Dweeble rolled 23 using 1d20+7 with rolls of 16.  Attack - Shortsword.

Bram fends off one of the huge half-orc's blows, but the second gets around his guard for a glancing blow.  "Behind my shield!  They're loading another volley!" he cries out of his comrades, though keeps his eyes focused intently on his foe.  Seeing an opening, he catches Grund with a heavy slash to the chest.

If Grund is still alive attack him and stay put, or if he's dead move to BR36 and attack W2 instead.  Hit AC 17 for 8 slashing.

If an ally adjacent to me is attacked, use my reaction to impose disadvantage with Protection fighting style (hint to allies: somebody move adjacent to Bram! :)

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Asano lines up his attack perfectly, but his pounding head makes it difficult to focus. His jittery hands shift at the last second, and his ray of icy magic shoots just off target.

Dwee and Mayon take down Grund and another of the masked folk.

Suddenly the two crossbowmen in the next room realize they are facing a group of well-armed and capable combatants, alone. "Wake up you fools," one of the figures says, stepping forward and kicking one of the sleeping goons in the ribs. His fellow follows suit. Both grumble about the pleasant dreams they were having, then turn over and continue snoring loudly.

Irritated, both conscious crossbowmen aim at Mayon and fire. One of the bolts catches the warlock in the temple, and he falls heavily to the floor.

Mid round update - map updated.

Jak and Morg are up now, but also Bram can alter his post since both the targets he mentioned died before his turn.

Bringers of Woe:
W2 is asleep.
W4 is asleep.
W5 attacks Mayon with light crossbow - MISS.
W6 attacks Mayon with light crossbow - CRIT for 12 piercing. Mayon is unconscious.

Seeing that Grund and the stone-masked man had fallen, Bram advances to harry the crossbowmen.

Bram will instead move past the sleepers (half-speed over the ball bearings!) to get adjacent to both of the crossbowmen in their previous positions, which I think would be BV36?  Then apply the previously rolled attack to whichever one took damage already, if any.

Apologies to mister DM, but their turns will need modifying, because ranged attacks have while an enemy is adjacent.

Morg marvels at Dwee's shortsword attack, and then says "I can't guarantee safety, but I'll break any orc head that locks you up."

He thinks about taking out a javelin, but seeing Bram charge ahead, follows him instead, "Let's go help Bram!"

Morg swings at the nearest stone face.
Move: 20' from BR34 to (slowly over ball bearings for extra 5') BU36 or BU35 depending on Bram's position.

Action: knock-out (instead of fatal) attack on most bloodied of W6 or W5 (or W4 if ending up more northerly and W6 was downed) with war pick - hits AC 13 for 13 piercing damage.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Surprisingly, Mayon regains his feet despite the blow to his temple. It seems it was a glancing blow after all.

Bram moves forward carefully over the ball bearings and strikes one of the masked crossbowmen. Morg almost slips in the entryway but keeps his feet, then drops the crossbowman with his pickaxe.

The remaining crossbowman's masked face turns nervously this way and that, but he raises his bow for another volley.

Map updated.

Dwee, Asano, Mayon, and Bram are up now. Mayon needs to make a concentration save before his turn.

Note, moving at half speed means you can only move half the distance on your turn ;). For Bram this didn't matter since he moved half his speed anyway, but Morg actually moved 4 squares which is more than half his speed. But don't worry, I rolled a Dex save for Morg and he passed - barely. ;)

Round 2 Summary:

Dwee moves up and attacks W3 - HIT for 17 piercing. W3 is dead.

Asano attacks W3 with Ray of Frost - MISS.

Mayon attacks Grund with Eldritch Blast - HIT for 15 damage. Grund is dead. Mayon switches Hex to W5

Bram moves to BU36 and attacks W6 - HIT for 8 slashing.

Bringers of Woe:
W2 is sleeping.
W4 is sleeping.
W5 attacks Mayon with light crossbow - MISS.
W6 attacks Mayon with light crossbow - RETCON! HIT for 4 piercing.

Jak does nothing.

Morg moves to BU35 and attacks W6 - HIT for 13 piercing. W6 is dead.

Dweeble reached out to stop Morg from moving forward but her hand only grasped thin air as he shot around the corner and into the next room.  Her eyes were drawn immediately to where the half orc lay across from her, his body marked where Mayon's magic had hit and slain him.  She gulped audibly as she averted her gaze and followed Morg around the corner, tossing a dagger towards the last cultist that was still standing.

She rushed for cover behind the nearest person, this time Bram a good enough meat shield for her it seems as she ducked behind him.  "You tell Dweeble if that half orc gets up, kay?  I don't want to be caught off guard.  No cages, no cages..."  Her words cease as she moves to stand directly behind him, contorting her smaller frame to avoid anyone's sight from beyond the half-elf.

First move into line of sight/range of W5.  Toss dagger.  Hits AC 16 for 9 damage total.  Then move to BT36 behind Bram and attempt to hide.  Did not move at half speed over ball bearings, Dex saving throw success.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

A flurry of blows from several directions takes down the remaining Bringer of Woe before he can wake his fellows. The group pauses to catch their collective breath as the remaining two figures snore softly in the reflected light of the driftglobe.

With blood still pulsing in his veins from the unexpected attack, Asano realizes his headache seems to be finally gone.

Looking around the second chamber, Bram and Morg see there are two exits with the same stone doors as the other rooms. In the center of the room stands a life-sized and lifelike statue of a dwarf warrior wearing a chain shirt, helm, and big boots. He carries a shield on his left arm and a battleaxe in his right hand. The statue has clearly been broken at some point in the past however, and roughly - the head and upper torso, lower torso, and legs have been reassembled and are held together and upright in a stout wooden frame.

A dagger along with several coins and gems lie on the floor in front of the statue, surrounded by a ring of fine gravel.

And we're out of combat! All assailants are dead except for the two snoring woe-bringers.

Asano is no longer poisoned, but he does have to roll on the Wild Magic surge table!

21:26, Today: Secret Roll: DM, on behalf of Asano Breathkill, rolled 1 using 1d20 with rolls of 1.  Asano wild magic surge - sleep.

Re: Day 5 - Early Risers

Dweeble was surprisingly quick to ignore the two sleeping men still nearby.  Likewise, she didn't seem eager to search bodies for sources of shiny things or coin.  Instead, she sheathed her sword after wiping it clean on her pant leg and, almost methodically, moved to each of the bodies she'd thrown a dagger into.  She removed her weapons with either hand and retreated back into the previous room, ignoring the sights of what lay beyond.

By the light of the driftglobe she found where Grund lay dead, her daggers shaking lightly in her grip as she approached the half orc's dead form.  She dropped one blade to the ground with a loud clatter while the other she drove down into Grund's lifeless chest.  Then, leaving her blade there, she began to scramble as she searched his pockets and pouches.  "Key, key, key, keykeykeykey.  The half orc always carries the key.  The key opens the cage.  No more cages for Dweeble.  Not now, not ever.  Key, key, keykeykey."  She mumbled to herself as she worked but any inquisitive ears could easily here her.  She didn't seem to notice her own mad ramblings.

OOC:  Looking for a key, or keys.  Any key, doesn't matter much to her if it's big enough for a massive lock or small enough for a tiny chest.

Instead, pink bubbles float from his mouth popping as they reach the ceiling. He watches them, fascinated, tries to speak again and watches as more bubbles escape his mouth. He pops a few, laughing, then laughs a little harder as more bubbles appear in place of the sound of his laughter.
After regaining his composure, he hands a rope to Morg, pointing to the sleepers.

Dweeble's head turned sharply as Mayon spoke up.  While one hand was still busily searching a pouch, the other had moved up to the hilt of the dagger lodged in Grund's chest.  Her grip was white-knuckled as she strained on the weapon.  Her mouth was tightened into a hard grimace, her teeth bared and gnashing as she fumed.  Her eyes were wide with shock, perhaps at having been unintentionally snuck up on or perhaps because she seemed to come out of whatever was going through her mind.

Her features eased as they recognized the young half-elf and the grip on her weapon in Grund's chest slackened.  She blinked once, twice, a third time and then finally gave a sigh of understanding.  "R-right.  Yeah, Dweeble's free of the cage." She gathered the dagger from the half orc's chest and the other from the ground where she'd dropped it.  After cleaning them and replacing them on her hip bandoliers, she deposited whatever she found on the half-orc into her pockets and stood up.

Her hands were still shaking from whatever had possessed her in her frenzy but she seemed to at least be back in the present.  She spat down on the half orc's corpse where it lay and then turned back to Mayon with a much wider smile than anyone should have had after such an episode.  "Right, let's see if they had any shinies then, Mayon!"  She got behind him and pushed him gently towards the next room, though she'd let him move away if he wanted to.  Either way, she was moving to where everyone else was waiting and checking the area for loot.

Grund and the masked folk have nothing of value on their persons, including a distinct lack of any keys. The stone masks are revealed to be thin stone indeed, and they crack under even a moderate amount of pressure. They appear to be painted with a thin layer of gold paint that chips easily.

At the last moment as Dwee appears about to move away from the dead half-orc, she finds a half-eaten pickle just above the large corpse's belt loop.

Two of the prone figures awaken after a time and start struggling in their bonds. One reaches for a scimitar strapped at the leg, while the other reaches for a crossbow at the waist. Neither of them are quite successful in arming themselves however, as their bonds appear quite tight - for now.

A third masked figure it seems is merely knocked unconscious, not dead after all.

Around the statue, a fair pile of valuables are gathered.

XP total: 250
XP each: 62.5

Loot from around the statue:
440 cp
253 sp
97 gp
6 small green agates (worth 5 gp each)
2 polished moonstones (worth 50 gp each)
a curious dagger decorated with star motifs and a grip of night-blue leather - if anyone wants to examine this further let me know
