Re: OOC

Just an FYI - I'll plan to post the monastery-dwellers turns tomorrow night at the latest, maybe earlier if Asano and Jak have a chance to post before then.

Also, I've added a new player to the game (Rona'Aduur, half-orc ranger) and we're in the process of finalizing character sheet details.

Welcome Rona'Aduur!

Re: OOC

Apologies to Zora, I belatedly added Elven to your private groups, and I finally added Shatter and gust of wind to your spell sheet.

Aloha Rona.
Morg's always wanted to hear stories from a friendly orc - the incident with Pickles, the orc in the town they were just in, notwithstanding ;).

Yes yes bear puns, they'd be entirely to unbearable to go for too long so it would be best to do them now before this all gets out of paw.

Nope, didn't even know his parents really. He knows of orcs and that he looks like them but doesn't feel beholden to them at all. Nature is his mistress and his heart yearns for her.

Re: OOC

Also @Asano, you can't actually twin Magic Missile - the PHB errata says:

"To be eligible for Twinned Spell, a spell must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell’s current level."

You can target more than one creature with magic missile, so it's not eligible.

I think so - he has multiattack, and how I read the grappling rules was that he could sacrifice one of his multiattacks to attempt a grapple. If the grapple succeeds you can drag/push the creature you have grappled at half speed.

These would be the standard actions any creature would get, PCs included. But let me know if I’ve misinterpreted any of this!

Re: OOC

I think the shove had to be following turn, but I am no expert! I think attack, grab and shove all take an attack. Unless it has a3 attack multi attack?

Upon further review, I've found clarification from the powers that be at WoTC that "monsters" don't follow the same grappling rules in the PHB, so I'll adjust my post to only be a grapple vs. Morg. Good catch!

Doh! I forget about that restriction on twin spell. My bad, boss.

Which of the enemies seemed reluctant to follow Qarbo's orders?

No worries! Worked out better for you anyway that you can’t twin, since Qarbo cast shield.

It wasn’t that the guard was reluctant to follow orders but that he was doing a check to end Phantasmal Force. I can edit the post and make that clearer, what the head shaking was all about.

My understanding is that when you've grappled something, when you move you can drag or carry the
grappled creature with you, but your
speed is halved unless the creature
is two or more sizes smaller than
you. It's not a shove, just moving while grappling something else. Since these are monks and not special monsters, they should probably use the same rules as PCs.

Nah, that was just flavor - in terms of game mechanics Morg is (still) just grappled.

I think the intent is for the PHB grapple rules to apply to PCs only, based on clarifying posts from WoTC folks I found on social media last night. I get that the monks aren’t monsters per se, but they have stat blocks in the adventure just like monsters, so I think the rule for monsters applies.

Re: OOC

Ah ok my mistake then. Totally agree monks should be able to use the whole suite of player abilities in this situation.

My problem was that I thought there were three attacks 1) attack 2) grapple 3) shove. If the shove isn't really an shove, (an attack action to reposition Morg a square back and releasing the grapple presumably). The shove actually takes another athletics check in addition to the grapple too, I didn't realize that.

There's no way the PCs would know this, but the "monks" aren't really the same kind of monk found in the PHB either. They're called "Sacred Stone Monks" in the adventure text. They have some similarities with PHB monks but they're different in other ways =)

Re: OOC

They have full stat blocks ala monsters detailing what they can do with their actions/reactions/etc. In previous editions, NPCs or monsters with class levels operated as PCs with similar levels, but 5e has kinda streamlined that process in their published adventures/campaign arcs.

Re: OOC

@Asano, Careful Spell doesn't actually apply here, since Sleep doesn't use a Saving Throw...

You could probably accomplish what you're trying to do by casting it at AG12 though, so I'll assume that's what you "meant" =). You can keep a sorcery point too.
