Re: Day 6 - Feathergale Guests

Dodging left and right, the monks continue to avoid several attacks.

A blast of icy air from Asano finally finds its mark, and Jak's jibe seems to hit one of the monks with the force of a physical blow. The latter figure slows his movements, then throws one last half-hearted punch at Rona before slumping to the floor a moment later.

Map updated!

Round 14 Summary:

Mayon attacks M8 with Agonizing Blast - MISS.

Zora circles M9 and attacks with her morningstar - MISS.

Asano casts Ray of Frost at M9 - HIT for 8 cold damage. M9's speed is reduced by 10' until the start of Asano's next turn.

Jak casts Vicious Mockery on M8, who FAILS the save and takes 4 psychic damage. M8 is dead.

Morg moves closer to the fray and recovers Reszur from M8's body. Morg attacks M9 (I'm using Morg's initial higher roll plus 1 more for Reszur) - M9 uses Reaction to dodge out of the way.

Rona loses concentration on Hunter's Mark from the hit last round - we forgot to check for this before, but I rolled for it just now. Rona attacks M9 twice - MISS.
17:58, Today: Secret Roll: DM, on behalf of Rona'Aduur, rolled 5 using 1d20+1 with rolls of 4.  Rona concentration save - Round 13.

M9 attacks Rona twice with unarmed attacks - MISS.

Re: Day 6 - Feathergale Guests

If M9 is still conscious on round 15 initiative 14, then
action: ready: attack knock-out (instead of fatal) on M9 with Reszur if he's hostile - hits AC 21 for 11 magical piercing damage.

If M9 is unconscious, then
free interaction with one object: pick up morningstar, and
move: up to 25' from AA14 towards nearest monk with robes and/or mask in good enough condition to be worn to pass as monks.

If action not used on attack, then
action: use an object: put away morningstar.

15:33, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 21 using 1d20+7 with rolls of 14.  M9 attacked with Reszur (magical dagger).
15:34, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 11 using 1d4+7 with rolls of 4.  M9's magical piercing damage from Reszur.

Edit: changed attack to Ready attack.

"Hold your blows," Asano barks at the final opponent. "This is not what we wanted, but your leader forced our hand to violence. If your aims be of a peaceful and affirming nature, you have a chance to retain your own life and live in peace. Simply cease striking at us and let us go about our business." His wand, though glowing with a frosty menace, is held at his side, non-threateningly. However, an almost translucent shield forms around him as he speaks, while the butterflies and flower petals fade into nothing.

Still ducking and weaving, the monk dodges all attacks but one, taking a wound to her forearm from Morg's dagger.

"I will take you all down myself, or Hellenrae will finish you all when I am spent. The earth thirsts for your blood, and it will have it, one way or another. You are doomed." She punctuates her taunt with a swift kick to the dwarf's midsection.

Re: Day 6 - Feathergale Guests

Three bolts of force slam into the remaining monk. The force of the blows sends her flying backward. She lands with a thud a good ten feet from where she last stood. Her form lies motionless on the stone floor.

...Annnd we’re out of initiative. Phew, long encounter!

I’ll post a map update and XP details later today. Total of 700 XP gained fighting the reinforcements.

The sun has set and the room is now completely dark, with the magic dagger Reszur the only source of light. It sheds dim light in a 10’ radius. This is probably most impactful for Zora and Jak, as everyone else has dark vision.

What now?

Mayon let out a slow sigh, leaning on his quarterstaff. It felt like they'd been fighting for hours, though he knew it had been but a few minutes.

"Perhaps we should see if we can get any useful information from them first." He suggests to Morg. "Either way, we have our kill...hopefully it's worth it."

He collects the monks' unbroken masks and robes, handing them to any longshanks willing to take them and put them on, and looking to see if they, the guards, or Qarbo have anything else on them.

Morg searches the dead and unconscious denizens of the monastery.

Map & Loot Thread (XP) updated!

Morg finds only hooded robes and gargoyle masks made of gilded tin on the monks. None of them are damaged enough to prevent wear.

The guards bear only their rock-like armor that resembles plate mail (in addition to the morningstars that the group has already recovered).

Qarbo carries two keys. He also has a long glaive and serviceable splint mail.

Morg lifts up an unconscious guard to see if it's plate armor would fit a dwarf.

He then walks over to Qarbo, and says "The faces on decapitated heads tend to deform quickly, so I'd suggest we bring the whole body." After finding the keys, he lifts up the corpse to see if the splint would fit him. "I found 2 keys on him. Anyone else want the glaive, or any of this heavy armor? You tall folk could also try putting on these robes and masks in case more monks heard the ruckus."
Would any of the heavy armor fit Morg? Are the hooded brown robes the same as the ones Morg took from the stoneworks cave in Red Larch?

He stepped back and went to the double doors to listen for any more incoming unfriendlies.

Technically the double doors are still open, but Jak can't see anything because it's pitch black ;).

The armor would definitely not fit Morg, though it might fit others in the group. The robes are quite similar to those found in the cave in Red Larch.

"The entire body would be too cumbersome, unless someone has some method of item transportation they haven't displayed yet," Asano says with a sigh. "None of us wanted this, Jak, but sometimes sense is far less common than one may desire. We'll take the head, and keep it frozen to preserve it for the trip. However, we have a choice. Do we explore this monastery mystery further, or do we just return to the Spire? Personally, I don't like to leave a mystery unexplored, but I also recognize that we may not be prepared to continue this campaign. Most of my own mystical might has been expended, and I know that manhy of us bear serious wounds. Mayhaps we can find a safe place nearby to rest and tend our wounds? There are numerous out-buildings within the monastery walls that may provide shelter for us."

Re: Day 6 - Feathergale Guests

After catching their breaths for a few more minutes, the group moves toward the western doorway of the shrine, Jak and Zora relying purely on sound and the faint light from Morg's dagger to find their way.

As they approach the previously-frozen doorway, they hear some noises from movement in the room beyond. The group freezes. It sounds like a door opens and closes, with quiet words spoken.

"Close the door to the temple," a commanding voice speaks suddenly, louder than the other voices. "If your fellows didn't solve Qarbo's problem for him then I don't want the problem coming in here. If it's solved, fine. Otherwise, solve it yourselves." The voice gets colder. "Or kiss any chance of serving in the Black Earth temple goodbye." The voices fade as another door is shut.

Map updated.

Continue thru the western door, do anything first, or change the plan?

Also, I realized we actually need to update the default marching order, posted in the Maps and Stuff thread. I updated it just by switching out Dwee and Bram for Rona and Zora, but let me know if the group wants any changes.

Re: Day 6 - Feathergale Guests

Morg offers Dweeble's lit dagger to Zora and collects the remaining masks, robes, and armors not taken by others, while leaving Qarbo's head for Asano to freeze.

At the sound of other voices, he points questioningly towards the southern doors where they entered, in case anyone thinks that may be a safer route. He lifts the morningstar in preparation to whack any cultists coming thru the western doors.
Move: just to the inside of the previously frozen doors.

Action: ready attack on anyone cult-looking coming thru doors.
