Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

Seeing the fearsome beasts, Zora decides to abandon her strategy of conserving her spell resources. She feels this will be a real battle. She mutters a quick prayer to her god and summons a ghostly hammer, then directs it to hit a minotaur as she moves up and swings her own weapon at it.

Bonus action: cast spiritual weapon, attack whichever minotaur Morg did with it, hits AC 15 for 7 damage.
Move: engage with Minotaurs
Main action: attack minotaur with warhammer, miss

15:33, Today: Secret Roll: Zora Jilkina rolled 15 using 1d20+5 with rolls of 10.  spiritual weapon attack same minotaur as Morg.

15:33, Today: Secret Roll: Zora Jilkina rolled 7 using 1d8+3 with rolls of 4.  spiritual weapon damage.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

Mayon takes a deep breath, moving to stand back as best he can and aiming a burst of magic for the same Minotaur that his comrades were already attacking. Meanwhile his sprite flits over to Morg to hopefully aid him in more future attacks.

Attack:
14:57, Today: Secret Roll: Mayon Graycross rolled 18,4 using d20+5,d10+3 with rolls of 13,1.  Agonizing  Blast Mi1.
Hit AC 18 for 4 force damage.

Movement: Mayon will move up to Y29.

If the perception check is not an action, Mayon's:
14:59, Today: Mayon Graycross rolled 8 using 1d20+4 with rolls of 4.  Perception.

Sprite is still around, up to DM on if we should roll its initiative or have it just share Mayon's, but nonetheless:

15:00, Today: Mayon Graycross rolled 11 using 1d20+3 with rolls of 8.  Sprite perception.

and if Perception is not an action the Sprite will move to Morg and take the Help action to give him Advantage on his next attack.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

Striking quickly, the group sets upon the monastery's guards. All awareness of their surroundings fades as they focus on their attacks. Sun streams through the narrow windows from the inner courtyard, as the clouds from the dawn burn off in mid morning.

Mayon hears a brief thump but quickly refocuses on the nearest of the hulking minotaurs, sending a blast of magic into its bull-like snout. A floating hammer appears on the beast's other side and crashes into its shoulder, despite being wielded by no one. Zora and Morg both accost the creature, who looks tentative and fearful in the face of their ferocity. Asano sends a spell against the lone monk, catching it in the grip of a spectral hand.

After a momentary hesitation, the defenders of the monastery counterattack.

The monk quickly sets upon Asano, landing a swift kick to his midsection.

The harried minotaur leans away from Morg but swings its massive greataxe at the dwarf anyway. His makeshift shield blunts some of force from the half-hearted swing, but it cuts at Morg's arm nevertheless.

The remaining minotaur breathes steam from its flaring nostrils, then trains his wide eyes on Mayon. It suddenly charges forward, lowering its head as it rushes at the half-elf. It smashes into him, impaling him on its horns. With a brusque wave of its head, he tosses Mayon's limp form into the corner.

Map updated! SW marks the location of Zora's spiritual weapon.

The good guys are up now though Mayon is down. If Mayon is healed before his turn then he can take a turn as normal, otherwise he'll need to start making death saves.

(I decided to summarize Round 1 first before listing the baddies' Round 2 actions for more logical reading)

Round 1 Summary:

Sprite moves to help Morg attack.

Monk is surprised

Minotaurs:
1 is surprised
2 is surprised

Asano steps forward and casts Chill Touch with Tides of Chaos at Monk - HITS for 7 necrotic. Monk can't regain hit points until the start of Asano's next turn.

Morg moves in and attacks Mi1 - HIT for 14 bludgeoning. FAILs Wisdom save and is frightened of Morg until the end of Morg's next turn.

Zora casts Spiritual Weapon at AB32, which then attacks Mi1 - HIT for 7 force damage. She moves to attack Mi1 - miss.

Mayon casts Agonizing Blast at Mi1 - HIT for 4 force.

Morg looks back as his young wizard friend is gored, and quickly scans the room before doubling down on the scared looking minotaur.
If Morg perceives anything relevant he'll shout it out.

Move: if Mi1 is out, move 5' to AA31.

Action: attack Mi1 (or Monk if Mi1 is out, or Mi2 if both are out (no advantage, so 10 to hit)) with warhammer with advantage from Mayon's sprite and with a menacing attack if it hit - hits AC 20 for 15 bludgeoning damage and who must then make a WIS save (DC 14) or be frightened.

Move: if Mi1 is out, move 5' to AA31.

Action surge: attack: Mi1 (or Monk if Mi1 is out, or Mi2 if both are out (no advantage, so 16 to hit))) with warhammer with advantage from Mayon's sprite and with maneuvering attack if it hit - hits AC 20 for 16 bludgeoning damage. If this attack was on Mi1 and hit, then Zora can choose to use her reaction to move up to half her speed without provoking an attack of opportunity from Mi1. If this attack however was on the monk or Mi2 and hit, then Asano can choose to use his reaction to move up to half his speed without provoking an attack of opportunity from the monk.

17:15, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 10 using 1d20+3 with rolls of 7.  General perception check around the entrance room.
17:19, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 20 using 2d20+6, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 14,4.  Mi1 attacked with warhammer with advantage from Mayon's sprite.
17:20, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 8 using 1d8+6 with rolls of 2.  Mi1's bludgeoning damage from warhammer.
17:23, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 7 using 1d8 with rolls of 7.  Menacing attack on Mi1 (if hit) who must make a WIS save (DC 14) or be frightened.
17:27, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 20 using 2d20+6, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 10,14.  Action surge: Mi1 attacked with warhammer with advantage from Mayon's sprite.
17:27, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 9 using 1d8+6 with rolls of 3.  Mi1's bludgeoning damage from warhammer.
17:30, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 7 using 1d8 with rolls of 7.  Maneuvering attack allowing Asano to use his reaction to move up to half speed sans AoO.

Asano grits his teeth as Mayon is tossed into the corner by the fearsome creature. His crystal wand ignites with a purple energy the shoots out, engulfing the heads of both the monk and minotaur. The mist-like energy swirls around both targets for a moment before apparently dissipating. To the eyes of both targets, the ground itself seems to split open as a stone elemental seems to climb up and strike at each of them.
"Your patron is disappointed in you," Asano hisses angrily, the illusory elementals striking out at their respective targets. "See how the earth itself turns against you fools." He faces both creatures defiantly, his focus glowing with a defensive incantation.

Mayon!" she cried as she saw him tossed to the ground like a rag doll. She muttered a quick word of healing at the wizard she couldn't move to at the moment, then swung the magical dagger at the minotaur in a rage that would make a barbarian proud.

"They'll just keep getting up until you take me down," she hissed at their enemies, taunting them to attack her.

Bonus action: healing word on Mayon the one hit wonder, heal for 7
Attack: swing and likely miss with reszur, hits ac 11 for 8.
Spiritual weapon attack on minotaur, hits AC 16 for 8.

If Minotaur 1 is down by the time she hits in initiative order, she'll move to Z29 (if open) and attack Minotaur 2, interposing herself between Mi2 and Mayon.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

Mayon groans at the dizzying yet unfortunately familiar sensation of being knocked flat and healed up once again. "Thanks, Zora." He calls out groggily and gets shakily to his feet before focusing his magic on the minotaur, conjuring up an image of shadowy chains rising from the floor and twisting around it, binding it and pulling it towards the ground.

Poor Mayon, pretty sure I've gone down more than anyone else this campaign...^^; I have learned my lesson about stat distribution.

Action: Casting Phantasmal Force on the minotaur, DC 13 Intelligence save or be utterly convinced that it is currently tied and bound--hopefully giving us some breathing room.
I rolled for damage before I decided on the illusion. Up to the DM on if this will deal the 5 damage recorded in the dice roller or not.
Movement: Stepping back to 30X, trying to keep visual while getting slightly more distance.

And the yet-nameless Sprite will continue to Help Morg.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

Morg lands a pair of devastating blows with his warhammer. Bones crunch.

Zora cries out and sends a divine burst of strength toward the fallen Mayon. She valiantly swings her magic dagger at the beast, though it misses by inches. The blade cuts through the air with no sound at all.

Asano's spell causes the other minotaur and the monk to blanch, staring at thin air in horror as some unseen attacker harries them.

Mayon floats in total blackness, the searing pain in his midsection a distant echo. Strange auras and stars drift across his unconscious vision. A feeling akin to peace sweeps across his mind.

A face slowly forms in front of him, as if coalescing from non-existent mist. The figure's white hair spins in a vortex, his dark robes swirl madly in an absent gale. "Destroy them, my pupil," the form intones, and a light suffuses Mayon, pulling him back, back to the stone monastery. He senses Zora's magic, knitting closed the grievous wounds in his body.

Suddenly the healing light coursing through the half-elf's veins seems to catch fire, burning the pain away. A brilliant light, visible to all, shines from the corner where Mayon lays prone for a split second. Gasping, Mayon sits up, suffused with power and energy from his patron. Groggily, he thanks Zora, then scrambles back through the open door as his hastily cast spell takes hold on the minotaur threatening Morg and Zora. The beast drops his massive greataxe and hugs his arms to his sides, snorting loudly.

Then, everything happens at once.

Through the narrow windows to the courtyard, two figures drop down from the open sky above. Just visible through the melee in the entrance hall, they look to be dressed in strange tight fitting uniforms over their armor. Leathery flaps stretch along their arms, waist, and legs.

"Asano, are you in there?" a familiar voice calls out, as Savra peers through the window.

As she sees Morg and a group of identically dressed monks under attack from a pair of minotaurs, she begins casting a spell. Her companion, a familiar looking knight, follows suit.

Behind them, two of the stone statues in the courtyard begin to move.

A split second later, the double doors to the outside burst open, and more light streams in. Standing in the doorway is a pink-haired gnome, flanked by two emaciated but spry young men dressed in leather armor. A small grey owl sits on her shoulder as she takes in the situation.

Little more than boys, the youths glance behind them at three giant vultures standing several yards back on the path. Satisfied that their mounts are safe, they pull daggers from their belts and dart in to engage with the nearest minotaur.

"The Cult of the Howling Hatred is not welcome here!" the monk barks. "Hellenrae will hear of this. And Marlos Urnrayle will destroy you all!" The monk turns towards the entrance hall's eastern door.

Map updated! I changed the map slightly to indicate where the narrow windows that look in upon the interior courtyard are - they're located where the black line is thinner than the rest of the wall.

Morg, Asano, and Zora all get Inspiration for their posts last round.

Mayon, you are healed 7 hp by Zora and the rest of the way to full hp by your warlock patron.
You're not sure exactly why he chose this moment to intervene... if you like you can make an Insight check to determine your patron's motives.

Tessa is up now, though as usual others may post & change things later if needed.

Round 2 Summary:

Sprite assists Morg in his attacks vs. Mi1.

Monk closes with Asano and attacks twice with unarmed attacks - HIT once for 7 bludgeoning .

Minotaurs:
1: Attacks Morg with greataxe (disadvantage due to frightened) - HIT for 6 slashing .

2: Charges at Mayon and attacks with Gore - HIT for 23 piercing. Mayon is unconscious and knocked prone to Y29.

Asano casts Twinned Phantasmal Force on Monk and Minotaur 2 - both FAIL saves. Monk takes 5 psychic and Mi2 takes 4 psychic.

Morg attacks Minotaur 1 with Menacing Attack - HIT for 15 bludgeoning. Mi1 saves vs. fright. Morg uses Action Surge to attack Minotaur 1 with Maneuvering Attack - HIT for 16 bludgeoning.  Zora can choose to use her reaction to move up to half her speed without provoking an attack of opportunity from Mi1.

Zora casts Healing Word on Mayon, restoring 7 hp. This is mysteriously augmented somehow, and Mayon is restored to full hp.  She attacks Minotaur 1 with Reszur - MISS.

Mayon casts Phantasmal Force on Mi1 - FAILS save. Minotaur 1 takes 5 psychic. He retreats just beyond the western doorway.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

ooc:  So, the phantasmal chains hit and incapacitated the monk nearest the door, and the minotaur nearest the wall to the north,  not the monk and minotaur right next to each other?

Tessa gets in the door and takes in the room from the same height as tigers and doorknobs and with the same ferocity... of a tiger, not a doorknob.

Her mates fly into action and she is proud of them.  This was what they had come for, and it appeared they weren't a moment too late.   Now, she and her mates would take care of business.   The monk and one large minotaur were down -literally, tied by the chains- and so she went after the only one that was available.

Bubo the owl takes off from her shoulder and flies directly at the minotaur's head, trying to scratch at its eyes and be a general distraction with flapping wings to give others a flanking advantage.

"rrraaaaAAAARRRRRRR!" She roars as she moves five feet to stand between her companions and attack the minotaur closest to her.  Unfortunately, the space is tight and her room to attack savagely is crimped, causing her slender blade to miss its mark.

GM, are we using the optional Flanking Bonus rule?

Bubo flies in to attack, trying to grant others flanking
Attack Mi1 - 23:49, Today: Tessa Greenwater rolled 15 using 1d20+3 ((12)).

Tessa moves 5' to stand between l1 and l2 and attacks
23:51, Today: Tessa Greenwater rolled 9,4 using d20+5,1d8+3 ((4,1)).

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

Having completed his scouting circuit around the outside of the monastery, Jak hurries through the door, squeezing right behind Tessa. His surprise to find so many more combatants than he expected is hidden behind his gargoyle mask.

Tessa and her companions rush to join the fight against the nearby minotaur, now surrounded by foes. Tessa's attack sweeps short of the beast as it struggles against invisible bonds, but her owl pecks at the creature's head.

The monk carefully backs away from Asano and wards off the invisible elemental, then spins and sprints through the eastern door, slamming it behind him.

"Prithee milady, but methinks those statues dost move!" Huet exclaims, as the gargoyles flanking the entrance to the shrine come to life and set upon them.

The minotaur nearest the door snorts and froths with rage as it believes it is held captive. When one of the leather-clad youths stabs it with a dagger, it howls in rage. Lowering its snout, it contorts its torso and gores the poor boy with its horns. The boy slumps to the floor and moves no more.

The remaining minotaur lets loose an enraged roar, harried by an elemental only it can see. Mad with bloodlust and fury, it swings its axe down at Asano in a brutal diagonal arc. The sorcerer is knocked to the ground, his golden mask struck from his bleeding head. As the beast turns towards the non-existent illusion, it pauses for a moment as the elemental disappears. Momentarily confused, it turns to look for another target to cut down.

"Asano!" Savra cries in terror as she witnesses him fall. A freezing blast of magic springs from her hand, answered from the opposite window by her companion. Both blasts of cold smash into the monster's back, and he spins to face the two Feathergale Knights. He growls at them through the windows.

"Mayon, Morg, Zora - if it's you all behind those ridiculous masks, which way do we go to get in there?" Savra cries angrily as she stares the beast down.

Mid round update!

Map updated. Apologies; I realized the minotaurs are Large creatures and should be occupying 2x2 squares on the map - I made the change this time.

Asano is unconscious and needs to make a death save.

Jak, Morg, Zora, and Mayon are up now! Technically Jak acts after the Monk and before the Gargoyles, so keep that in mind when you take your action - you couldn't, for instance, heal Asano since he wasn't unconscious when Jak acts.

@Tessa no, we're not using flanking. Mi2 & the Monk were under the influence of Asano's twinned Phantasmal Force, which meant they thought earth elementals erupted from the floor, though only they can see them. Mi1 is still under the influence of Mayon's Phantasmal Force, and thinks he is bound with chains, which caused him to drop his weapon. Again, nobody else can see the chains, since they aren't really there =)

Round 3 So Far:

Sprite assists Morg in his attacks vs. Mi1.

Tessa moves in and attacks Mi1 - MISS.

Monk Disengages and runs through the eastern door, near AF30. Monk is no longer visible.

Jak does TBD

Gargoyles:
G1: Moves towards Huet and attacks twice with bite and claws: HITS twice for 14 piercing/slashing.
G2: Moves towards Savra and attacks twice with bite and claws: HITS once for 5 slashing.

Air Initiates:

2: Attacks Mi1 with dagger - MISS.

Minotaurs:
1: Attacks I1 with gore - CRIT for 27 piercing. I1 is dead.
2: Attacks Asano with greataxe - HIT for 26 slashing. Asano is unconscious.

Asano needs to make a death save.

Feathergale Knights
Savra casts Ray of Frost at Mi2 - HIT for 7 cold.
Huet casts Ray of Frost at Mi2 - HIT for 8 cold.

Bubo (owl) flies in and attacks Mi1 - HITS for 1 slashing.

Free interaction with one object: try to kick the minotaur's greataxe outside.

Action: attack Mi1 (or Mi2 (no advantage, but still hits on 23) if Mi1 is out) with warhammer with advantage from Mayon's sprite - hits AC 23 for 12 bludgeoning damage.

Move: if Mi1 is out, move 5' to AB31.
If not, how injured does Mi1 look?

I don't think Morg's wearing a cultist cloak or mask, so Savra and Huet should recognize him.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

In the courtyard, both gargoyles attack the knights again. "Aye verily, we approach!" Huet replies through the window. Both knights cast quick spells, and move unnaturally fast towards the western door of the courtyard.

The remaining young man approaches the minotaur and scores a hit with his dagger on the beast's leg. The minotaur snorts and chops the man nearly clean through with his greataxe.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

Morg runs around the minotaur, and while hitting it tries to distract it in a similar manner to the sprite, in order to allow Asano to safely move away unnoticed.
Move: 20' to AC29 (Tessa being difficult terrain).

Action: attack Mi2 with warhammer with advantage from Mayon's sprite - hits AC 25 for 14 bludgeoning damage, but if Mi2 is out, then instead ready an attack on any other hostiles coming near or a gargoyle squeezing thru the window.

14:33, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 25 using 2d20+6, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 19,10.  Mi2 attacked with warhammer with advantage from Mayon's sprite.
14:33, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 11 using 1d8+6 with rolls of 5.  Mi2's bludgeoning damage from warhammer.
14:35, Today: Morg Danforge rolled 3 using 1d8 with rolls of 3.  Maneuvering attack: Asano may use his reaction to move up to half his speed without provoking OA.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

Jak frowned as the minotaur didn't react to his insult at all. It shrugged off the spell and cut a man clean in half. Jak's jaw dropped open. He grabbed his shortsword and hurried forward. He swung his shortsword in a quick arc at the creature...and then suddenly realized that after seeing what the minotaur could do to a man up close he should have stayed the hell away! What was he thinking??

OOC:
Move to AC-30, I believe.
Attack minotaur with shortsword (Hit AC 21 for 5 damage).

08:59, Today: Secret Roll: Jakrynn Redgate rolled 21,5 using d20+4,d6+2 with rolls of 17,3.  Attack minotaur with shortsword.

Re: Day 7 - Return to Sacred Stone Monastery...?

As Morg creates an opening, Asano slides by Zora. The half-elf's bravado slips a little as he passes the rank of his allies. "Thank you," he yells to both the dwarf and human as he begins gathering energy for another spell.
