"It's the truth. My brother was the only prisoner who expressed any desire to escape. Isn't that right?" Findarion says from the back, hiding his face under the hood. His head turns slightly towards his brother.

I'm helping Morg, roll with advantage.

Greaek grunts again, seemingly satisfied. "My kin would indeed want to attack their slave masters. Would that I were with them." He looks at the group skeptically. "What will you do now?"

Morg turns to the others, and nods upwards to see if they also want to go up to the surface and face the guards.

"THAT," Jak pointed at Greak and gave a nod, "is an excellent question!"

He lowered his arm and looked at the others. "We need t'successfully get Fin's brother here out an' away. I think we need t'regroup an' rethink our strategy a bit. But we definitely need t'have a talk once we're away safely."

He stepped towards the door going out and peeked out of it, looking around for the other guards that had been with Greaek before.

Re: Day 9 - Underground Rescue

Peering out into the muggy sunshine, Jak sees a number of guards and workers hammering on replacement beams for the wooden scaffolding below.

The sharp call of a bird pierces the still air, calling from above, then echos once again off the hillside. The bird sounds stationary, perhaps as if it were at the top of the tower's spire above.

If everyone agrees to descend down the outside of the tower, Morg will take out a rope and tie it to allow the party to climb down.

Jak looked around and then up when he heard the cry. His lips twitched in a half-smile and he chuckled quietly. Then he stepped back inside. "You all go down, I'm goin' up. I'll keep an eye out."

With that, he headed to and then climbed up the ladder inside that headed ever upward.

Magdrak looks around at the others and shrugs his shoulders.  "I will follow you down.  Do you have a meeting place in mind?  Hopefully the guards down there will not ask too many questions until after we are long gone."

Re: Day 9 - Underground Rescue

As the others discuss leaving the tower and descending to the ground outside, Jak slips up the stairs that hug the tower's northern wall.

Emerging from below, Jak sees the room above has about a dozen bedrolls scattered across the floor. Three of the bedrolls look to be occupied by sleeping cultists. In the far corner, a small pile of someone's belongings sits next to some discarded clothing. The stone stairs continue upward along the inside of the wall.

Stealth rolls as appropriate ;)

"Hold on, Morg. If they indeed are looking for us, perhaps we should look for other ways of escaping this tower. I think if we tied the rope to the top of the tower and slid down on the opposite side - not where they're repairing the scaffolding - we have good odds of leaving unseen."

Re: Day 9 - Underground Rescue

Jak sort of flinched in surprise as he spied sleeping people on the floor above. For a split-second he considered climbing back down and going outside with the rest, but then he shrugged his shoulders and climbed up slowly and quietly.

He started to head towards the stairs but his eyes were drawn towards the stairs to keep going up but spied something interesting and unattended. He hesitated, frowning. Finally he shrugged his shoulders again and tiptoed over just to take a quick peek.

16:02, Today: Jakrynn Redgate rolled 19 using 1d20+4 with rolls of 15. Stealth check

Re: Day 9 - Underground Rescue

As Jak makes his way carefully between the bedrolls and sleeping forms, the floor creaks loudly.

Sharp splintering sounds meet one of his footfalls, and two of the sleeping forms stir but do not wake. He makes his way to the corner, then examines the pile.

Jak finds a coin purse and two scrolls in the pile. The purse contains:
- 40 sp
- 18 gp
- silver ring (25 gp)

The Loot thread is updated with the above.

Re: Day 9 - Underground Rescue

Jak winced again and almost fell over as he was just stepping down when he heard the sharp splintering sounds. He looked down at the floor, half-expecting it give way beneath him, but it didn't. He looked over at the sleeping people, incredulous that they hadn't been awakened by the noise either.

He shook his head slowly and grinned as he scooped up the 'spoil's. He turned and tried to make his way quietly but hurriedly towards the stairs up.

13:39, Today: Secret Roll: Jakrynn Redgate rolled 6 using 1d20+4 with rolls of 2.  Stealth check 2.

Re: Day 9 - Underground Rescue

The floor creaks again, loudly, as Jak starts to pick his way across the creaky floor. At the same time, Morg clomps up the stairs, just behind the fleet-footed Findarion.

Suddenly one of the sleeping bodies sits bolt upright, glaring at Jak, Findarion, and Morg in turn. The other two forms stir as well, rubbing sleep from their eyes. "Greaek, what in the blazes are you about, letting these oafs climb the tower unannounced?" the woman roars, calling down the stairs.

"Am I your guard dog?" Greaek growls from below.

As the cultists shout down to the azer, Magdrak shakes his head and rubs his forehead with his hand.  He begins muttering to himself.  "So much for a quiet unseen exit."  He steps out of the entryway and looks down the scaffolding for a moment, reconsidering his options.

Re: Day 9 - Underground Rescue

Jak winced once more and then looked very surprised as Findarion and Morg came trumping up the stairs - well, Morg came trumping, Findarion was actually fairly quiet. Regardless, people woke up and shouted downstairs.

Jak started backing up towards the stairs. He smiled at the newly-awakened people. "Sorry for disturbin' yer beauty sleep! Please, pay us no mind! Go back t'sleep!" He jerked a thumb towards the next floor above. "We'll be outta yer hair an' up the stairs in a jiff!"

Re: Day 9 - Underground Rescue

"If you think you're goin' upstairs to meet with Elizar Dryflagon unannounced, then you've another thing comin'!" the woman spits at Jak, standing up and throwing off her bedroll.

The dry skin on her face and hands looks cracked and leathery as she faces Jak. The other two, burly fellows and hard-looking despite their lack of armor, throw off their blankets as well and grab their nearby longswords.

In case initiative is relevant, Magdrak, Findarion, and Morg can act now, though anyone can speak or do other non-initiative actions as you like.

The woman squints at Morg but the men lower their blades, apparently mollified.

"You ain't gonna bother Elizar just to reach the roof. Go back down," she says, pointing to the stairs. "What're you doin' in the tower anyway?" she adds suspiciously.

After hearing the voices from above, Magdrak chooses to stay on the level where he is.  Moving to stand next to the staircase, he listens to make sure that he can respond in case of attack.  His hand stays on his warhammer, though he leaves it at his side.
