"The shark in the water - is it a druid? A pet? Something else?"

Makari began to step away from the boat but paused as Morg began walking without divesting himself of weapons. He kept his hand on his quarterstaff but made sure he was on the opposite side of the boat from the shark as he readied himself for a fight, his magic ready to imbue his staff if the people reacted poorly to Morg's action.

Eyon ignores Makari's question and draws a shortsword, pointing it Morg's neck and barring his way forward. "Urshnora told us the Keep had fallen," she says, "and methinks ye all are the ones responsible." Her companions all draw weapons, clearly about to attack.

Makari shrugged and gave a lopsided grin as things suddenly deteriorated as he had suspected they might. "...boring conversation anyway..."

He brought up his staff, spoke a word of power to imbue it as he gripped it and ran his other hand over it. It light up, very briefly, with a spark of power that enveloped it. Then he raised an eyebrow as well as the staff and spoke a different word of power. Golden-green flames enveloped the staff just before he swung it out at the person standing next to him.

OOC: Cast Shillelagh. Cast Green-Flame Blade and attack the bad guy adjacent.
Hit AC 18 (forgot to add my Prof to the d20 roll below) for 7 bludgeoning and 6 fire.
If that hits, the bad guy next to him takes 7 fire damage.

Everything starts to happen at once on the crowded quay.

One of the tooth-blades reavers falls under Makari and Magdrak's attacks. Magdrak teeters on the edge of falling into the shark-infested water after a vicious shove from the wounded reaver.

Eyon snarles and rushes Morg, scoring a hit in the gaps of the dwarf's armor with her shortsword. Afterwards she gasps at a blast of magical energy from Tana, still hovering above the water nearby.

The air turns misty as ghostly shapes appear in the air around Durik. Bearded in misty white clouds, the stately dwarves in the mist flit through the air. One brushes past the green-tinged skin of one of the combatants, and he shies back.

With so many people cluttering up the landing the bear does the smart thing, which is starting to seem a bit less surprising now, and mauls the reaver on the southern edge of the platform, resting one of its massive paws on the edge of the stone to stabilize itself and the little boat it has effectively claimed as it rips into the unfortunate man with its other paw, and bites him for good measure.

Makari narrowed his eyes even as he barely escaped the attack directed at him. His lip curled up a bit as he uttered the same phrase to cause the green flames to appear and engulf his staff once more. He swung out with it again and seemed to strike a solid blow, the flames leaping at the enemy and reaching, straining, towards another enemy close at hand!

OOC: Attacking the one in front of Makari (diagonally I think?), hit AC 20 for 11 bludgeoning and 6 fire, and if successful leaps to an adjacent enemy for 13 fire damage.

In a big splash of water the shark comes up out of the water, bites the bear, and presumably drags it down with it, as there is no longer a bear on the boat.

"Touch this!" Morg says as he slashes the big green creature with his sword.

The water churns near the boat and the shark is pulled under the surface. Another of the reavers fall, and Morg deals the fathomer a grievous wound. The green-tinged skin of the fathomer pales as he backs away from the dwarf.

Makari didn't like necessarily being stuck in melee range, but at least he had previously had some training in close quarters combat so he wasn't wholly unprepared and easy prey. He cast the same spell once more and golden-green flames engulfed his club as he swung out at the one enemy still in front of him, and the flames leaped to the one standing next to them, ostensibly out of Makari's reach, but not so!

Hit AC 24 for 16 damage (6 fire, 10 bludgeon) and the enemy next to them for 9 fire.

Magdrak shifts his stance as one enemy falls beneath his blade.  He begins to focus his attacks on those that remain.  He gruffly murmurs to no one in particular.  "You would think that these cultists would learn not to attack us for no reason."

Both of the remaining guards fall from another round of blows, the serrated blade falling from the reaver's lifeless fingers to clatter on the wet stone quay. The surface of the water next to the rowboat continues to churn from something beneath the surface.

Thrashing about near the surface of the water the occasional shark fin breaches the surface, sometimes covered by some sort of pale colored tentacle only to be twisted around and returned to the water at an obviously not forward direction.  More than a little blood joins it.

Morg drops his greatsword, takes out a javelin and tries to throw it at the shark while avoiding the polite bear.

Makari took a moment to catch his breath. He hadn't been in this much real combat since he was trained that he'd ended up in since he'd arrived in this new place. He shook his club out a bit and then put it back on his belt for the moment.

He glanced over at Morg, "Well. It's rarely dull around you so far."

Then he began looking through the corpses to see if they had anything interesting.

As the fight below the surface slows then comes to a bubbling stop the water's surface stills, but only for a moment.  Shortly there after the shark's javelin impaled body is pushed up on to the shore by several long tentacles, the suckers releasing it with a wet squishing sound before they too recede below the surface.

Makari rifles through the bodies of the corpses and finds a large waterproof bag on Eyon's corpse. A potion in a tear-drop shaped bottle is inside, along with a number of coins and 5 very fine looking gemstones. The rest of the guards carried another handful of gold coins.

The reavers' shields were clearly fashioned from some sort of shelled undersea creature, and look brittle. Their swords are all adorned with sharp shark teeth, though all but one is rusted and seemingly not very functional. The fourth, however, looks relatively serviceable.
