Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

Landrin moves into the northeast room, finding it empty of other cultists. He does get a better view of the cooking materials and the bunks on the back wall of the room, interspersed between the arrow slits looking out over the water outside.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

Carefully watching the effects of the potion on another Gorm eventually gives the thing an exploratory sniff, then a closer inspection, then just grabs the thing in her mouth and rolls back onto her haunches and lifts her head up to drain the thing in one quick swallow, clearly having decided that it can't taste to bad, although what to bad is to a creature willing to bite trolls might be a touch vague.

Makari moved slowly, bringing up the rear. He was fine with letting some of the others take the lead, to see what might be what. Meanwhile, he did his best to make sure nothing was sneaking up on them or anything like that.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

Moving on, the group approaches a stone bridge ahead, which crosses fifteen feet over the water. Steps on the south side of the canal climb up to the bridge, which leads toa  set of stone double doors on the far side. Painted on the doors is a large symbol.

West and east of the bridge, and level with it, culverts carved in the shape of huge, yawning dwarven faces discharge streams of water into the canal. The small waterfalls make a lot of noise in the vicinity of the bridge.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

Makari glanced at the double doors as they began approaching them. His eyes narrowed at the symbol but he wasn't sure if it was familiar or what it meant. He then turned back to watching their backs as he brought up their rear, a bit thankful there weren't more cultists wandering around. It was a bit harder to hear with the waterfalls not too far away so he had to be extra vigilant.

Makari shook his head at Morg's question. He hesitated but then softly asked, "Should we just...open the door? See what's inside?" He then turned his attention to guarding the rear once more.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

A second, unseen mark on the door briefly flares as Morg pushes on the door, which open inward easily. A split second later a deafening roar erupts from the doorway, and rocks the dwarf backwards. A small wave of water laps at the stone below the bridge in the wake of the deafening sound.

Beyond the door, guttering flames hang unsupported in midair, illuminating a large area in flicking light. A twenty-foot wide moat divides what looks like a shrine into northern and southern halves.

In the northern half, two large stone pillars flank an alter in the form of a plain stone block. A few coins glitter on the alter, visible from the southern doorway. Above and behind the altar looms a huge symbol that matches the one on the stone doors, made from beams of driftwood, fixed in an X-like shape on the wall. A single stone door leads westward from this part of the room.

In the southern half of the room, two ten-foot-wide channels run along the east and west walls of the shrine, spilling out through low culverts tot he south. Two more pillars stand here, and a low stone bridge leads across the dividing channel to the altar and the northern part of the room.

Five lizardfolk brandish javelins and heavy clubs at the cacophonous intrusion, snarling and flicking their tongues towards Morg and the others. At the northern end of the chamber, and shadowed figure looks up from the altar.

As he straightens, he grabs a trident propped up next to him and plants its butt on the stone floor at his feet. In place of hair, the man's head is capped with an uneven covering of white barnacles, clinging to his skin like the side of a ship. Squinting at the far doorway through the relative gloom, he barks out a question. "Fire cultists! Why should I not kill you?"

Map updated!

The glyph of warding on the door inflicts 23 thunder damage to Morg, unless he can make a Dex save of DC 14 (in which case he takes 11 instead).

As Morg's ears ring, he moves backwards and down the stairs.
"We really should take these off." he says and starts taking off the fire-cultist tabard.

Succeed on Dex save vs glyph, HP-11.
Move: 25' south.
Action: dash 15' south.
Interaction: take off tabard.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

Makari flinched when there was a very load noise behind him, ducking his head down and instinctively throwing his hands up to cover his head a little. "crap!" He turned to look to see what had happened, and saw the door was opened.

He called out, "We're not actually...fire cultists. Someone told us to wear these tabards, told us it would help us, but apparently not." He followed Morg's lead and started to take off the tabard as well. "See? Taking them off."

Not being equipped with a tabard of any kind the bear just steps to the side of the bridge to let the others pass, or do whatever it is they need to, waiting for whatever direction the events seem likely to turn.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

The figure at the north end of the chamber smiles at the group's protestations that they are not fire cultists. "Whoever they are," he says grimly. "Drown them." The lizard folk scurry forward to attack.

Landrin steps off the bridge to get a better angle with his crossbows, and buries one of this flurry of bolts into the lizard man attacking Morg.

Clearly not inclined to put up with the lizard poking her with a stick, even a blunt one, Gorm reacts in a very bear like manner, she bites into the thing's shoulder and eviscerates it with the claws of her immensely powerful paw.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

Makari steps a bit to his left, on to the stairs, to get a better line of sight. He then makes a gesture while holding his staff and utters an arcane phrase that would sound very familiar by now to those around him. [Language unknown: "Ilpoloic moutee!"] And two bolts of golden energy flew towards one of the lizard creatures, but the first was not even close.

OOC: Moving on to the stairs (and up the stairs a bit if needs be) to get LOS.
Eldritch Blast on one of the farther back, not-in-melee, Lizardfolk.

12:44, Today: Secret Roll: Makari rolled 11,7,16,13 using d20+8,d10+5,d20+8,d10+5 with rolls of 3,2,8,8.  Eldritch Blast at one of the un-engaged Lizardmen.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

A lizardman falls under Gorm's assault, while the figure at the north end of the chamber strides slowly south towards the melee. Without breaking stride, he walks out onto the softly lapping waters partially surrounding the room, and calls to the nearby lizardmen to step backwards.

When it works, it works, and you do it again.  When you are a bear what works is ripping lizards apart with teeth and big claws, Gorm picks on the next lizard to hit her with its stick and continues to press her advantage by mauling another one.

Re: Day 11 - In the Temple of the Crushing Wave

The group cuts down the remaining lizardfolk, that last only a few feet away from Gar. Sneering, a loud crash like the smashing of a wave on stone washes over the bear as she stands over the last lizardfolk corpse. Gar takes a few steps backwards, still striding over the water's surface as if it were as solid as the surrounding stone.

Gorm, I moved you into the room to attack the remaining lizardfolk since Morg's turn ended up changing things so both the nearby lizardfolk were killed, but if that's not what you intended we can redo that. Assuming no changes you'll need to make a Con save.

Makari steps onto the stairs and attacks the L2 with Eldritch Blast - HIT once for 13 force.

Gorm attacks L5 - HIT twice for a total of 27 damage. L5 is dead.

Gar moves south.

Morg uses Second Wind to heal 13 hp. He attacks L1 - HIT for 13 slashing. L1 is dead. Second attack HITS L4 for 12 slashing.

Round 2 So Far:

L3 moves back towards Gar
L4 moves and attacks Gorm with club and shield - HITS with club for 8 bludgeoning.
