04. Aflae and the Blood Feud

Yani yelled at Aflae, "No she isn't! My sister's children are not my own. She's dead to me."

Eldrich cooly replied, "You have no claim over her blood, Tribeless. Seek salem, or perish!"

Yani hissed and recoiled, "Strong words for one so freshly reformed. I'll wager your power is nowhere near its peak."

"I needn't be at peak. And I have the blessing of the Royals to hunt you."

Eldrich looks meaningfully at Aflae and an urgent thought impedes on Aflae's awareness, Can battle in flesh or court. Your call.

Still wanted to try and deal with this with out fighting. "None the less she didn't kill your child, she was scared by what you where doing and took the babe still alive. A mage freed her from forgetting another of your kind and said if she ever dealt with another to bring them to him....  he didn't explain anything to her. He drained the babe and killed him. She did take your child to him, but she had no idea what he would do."

Eldrich realizes what Aflae is saying too late to stop her. Yani reacts in outrage, "WHAT!? That is even worse than killing her outright!" Yani raises her hand and her finger bones burst out of her fingertips shaped like scalpels. She swings at Aflae, but Eldrich moves too quickly to see and grasps her hand mid-strike.

Eldrich pleads, "We don't have to do this!"

Yani grips the hand that Eldrich had grabbed her with and wrenches and yanks it up and out. The force of her grapple tears skin, cracks bone, and snaps sinew as Eldrich's arm is torn from its socket. He grasps his armless shoulder in shock and pain. Yani begins to attack again, aiming for Aflae, but Eldrich grabs Aflae and falls backward. Shadows encroach around the pair and the scenery dims for them. Aflae feels almost like she is in a dream. Yani's eyes widen as she frantically looks around as if she can't see Eldrich and Aflae any more. She sniffs the air and kicks at where they might be (but aren't). Satisfied that her quarry has escaped, Yani puts her hands in her pockets and saunters off.

Eldrich softly says, "I've made us undetectable for a moment. I imagine you'd prefer to do this without fighting. There is a way."

"We have an ancient tradition among our people. We can visit the local Royals, and ask them to hold court over the issue. But we have to abide by the ruling of the court whatever they decide. Also, everyone involved has to be present - including Velanna. If you choose to go this route, it will be easy enough for them to summon Yani to court. What do you say?"

Eldritch's mouth falls open as he looks lightheartedly offended, "I am appalled! Why would you accuse me of being 'not good' at dealing with royalty? I'll have you know, I am an exceptionally skilled courtesan. Besides, I am just as much a Sangwen as Yani is. Admittedly, she is born while I am Turned, but the fact that she is not royalty herself speaks volumes about her status. I would be more than willing to bet that I am more respected than she.

"Nevertheless, the Royalty would be ruling according to their own logic. Generally speaking, non-sangwen persons are at a distinct disadvantage. But we could approach an Advocate and seek their advice."

"Leaving aside reaching her for now; the law may not be as you imagine it. In our law, clan comes first. Yani is clanless, which means that in a court she would be considered her own clan. Her child would be considered a member of her clan. Humans are considered a single leaderless clan.

"Whenever there is a conflict between two clans, our laws usually favour the victor.

"Except in the case of a blood feud. If VelAnna's intent was to wipe out all Sangwen, and if she maintained that intent, she would be certain to lose.

"If she called herself a Hunter, then she could still win as long as she only hunted those who purposely kill their sentient prey. (This is due to accords signed with various non-Sangwen clans).

"If she was a lone-wolf who killed one person one time for specific reasons, then she would be considered innocent."

Aflae's meditation tells her that as long as she could convince VelAnna to go along with it, they could claim that VelAnna only did this as a one-off event. If VelAnna doesn't want to kill all Sanguen, she'll probably be fine, and Yani will be the loser.

Ultimately it would be a battle of wits to see who the jury agreed with.

Spoiler for if the answer is yes: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Eldrich leads Aflae to the local Court and asks VelAnna to come through before they go in. He approaches the Royals and requests a trial between VelAnna and Yani. The Court asks where the Sanguicide occurred, and suggests that the trial occur in that local court. ((OOC: I may be contradicting myself, but oh well)) VelAnna informs them it occurred in Nexus. The Royals offer to send them to the Nexus Court. Eldrich turns to the women, "I am agreeable with this suggestion. Are you both in agreement?"  VelAnna says she'll follow Aflae's advice.

04. Aflae and the Blood Feud

A butler-type person comes and leads Aflae and the other two into a separate room. The room has a curtained off doorway, with a ledge next to the door. The attendant picks up an orange ball and places a red ball on the ledge, covering it with his hand. After a moment he picks up a green ball and walks into the curtained off area, inviting the others to join him. Eldrich encourages them to follow.

Assuming they do, he closes the curtain behind them and opens one in front of them. They emerge into a similar room with a curtained doorway at the far end. The process is repeated with a new attendant. This time they emerge in a room with a different decor. This decor is much more utilitarian and casually opulent. There are brass, silver and gold clockwork gears and machinery used for nearly every conceivable purpose. This attendant is an amputee who has had his limb replaced with a mechanical arm. No Magem is in use, but plenty of Magus permeates the room.

Also, Aflae suddenly realizes she is in Nexus. ((OOC: Roll for perception if you want to know where you travelled to get here))

The Nexus Royals have a very modern glamour about them. They carry themselves like trendy nouveau riche artists. They are young in appearance - late teens or so. Twin girls hang off of a majestic bare-chested young man. They ooze desire from every pore. The three of them speak in unison, creating a tri-part harmony in every sing-song word. "Greetings, Eldrich. We haven't seen you in a long time."

"Indeed." Eldrich responds. "I have been asleep for ages. Why, I seem to have missed your betrothal and wedding. I am sorry for this."

"You should be sorry," they nearly spit in apparent anger. "It should have been you in that coffin!"

Eldrich hung his head, and smirked a little at Aflae and VelAnna. Looking back to the Royals he contritely said, "You three are as... cute a couple as ever!" He opened his arms wide invitingly, and the three of them left their throne to hug him dearly. After a joyous banter with the Royals, he explained to the women that he had mentored them both when they were still children. At some Sanguin weddings, the person giving away an adult child stood in a coffin to symbolize their recognition of the new family bond of loyalty being sealed by the marriage.

The Royals returned to their throne, and to the seriousness of the business at hand. They heard Eldrich's plea for a trial, and they agreed. One of the young women flipped a wrist and a servant nodded.

Shortly thereafter, Yani stumbled into the room, indignant with some forceful escort behind her. She sniffed and turned right to VelAnna, "You!" She snarled in disgust as she leapt at VelAnna. Four guards acted without delay, and though her lunge was too fast to follow with the naked eye, they intercepted her and subdued her before she could harm VelAnna.

They teleported twice. Their first teleport took them from the Sangwen stronghold in Piscatania to a room beneath the point that Aflae had originally entered into Pskaena. Their second teleport went from there to where they are now in a vast underground complex in Nexus.

Which it is. But the roll isn't high enough to decipher everything.

The teleport was based in Magus and used elements from Imagus, Formagus and Unimagus. The Formagus element used was Cosmos. The other 4 elements were unfamiliar to Aflae but each were elements she'd seen the Sangwen using. If she had to guess from her knowledge of Magus and its elements, it looked like Shadow (Imagus), Dimension, Time and Void were all used in the teleportation spell. But she knew that there were other ways to teleport. This must be the method that Sangwen used... maybe... who knows?

The Royals don't overtly acknowledge Aflae's respectful attitude, but they also don't show any disdain for her. VelAnna does as Aflae suggests, reluctantly.

The Royals ask Yani if she has a chosen advocate or if she would like one chosen for her. She asks to have her brother speak on her behalf. The Royals ask if Eldrich accepts. It seems Eldrich has been arbitrarily appointed Advocate for VelAnna. Eldrich accepts Yani's request and her brother is sent for.

While they wait, they are brought to a side room with tables so he Royals can return to their regular duties. The side room seems to be a restaurant. Many Sangwen are dining. Yani looks at VelAnna and sneering she says, "Why, grand-niece, how nice to have you for dinner."

They where trying to prove she only did it once because she was tricked and alfae was upset that wizards could kill comatose vampire races and all was good but the person that brought them was all hood too so long as it was there job and they didn't do it out of hate.....

She wants to know if that means they are free to hire people to bring them unconcious wizards just cuz....because this seams like a dumb deal to her, because from all she's learned it's more worthwhile to a wizard to keep one of them alive and the only reason she can think for one to kill one is just to hurt people. (After all you may get a large amount of potent blood if you kill one, but its core cells are more potent than that.... and keeping one to drain you get a lot more blood)

OOC: To review, Aflae knows that one of VelAnna's halves is the granddaughter of Yani's twin sister.

Eldrich replies, "It was the only way to get everyone to agree to peace! It is inextractably intertwined in our DNA that we must hunt or be hunted. In the same way it is in the DNA of Wizards to covet power. There is only one way to circumvent that programming, and most only ever fool themselves into believing they've transcended it if they ever even try. It is specific to Wizards and Sangwen. There are different accords for other races. Elfs like yourself included."

If Aflae begins talking about ways that Wizards could use Sangwen more effectively than by killing them, Eldrich will firmly shut her up and push this thought, You are in the home of Sangwen, and very few people have any idea about how to trap a Sangwen into a device. It is not easy nor is it safe. Also, the accords prefer the death of a victim to eternal imprisonment.

But, the Sangwen would have no problem with Aflae bringing unconscious Wizards to them in exchange for money or favors.

VelAnna says, "Eldrich, does this all mean that the half of me that is Annabelle is Sangwen?"

"Yes."

"But I never sucked anyone's blood!"

"Of course not! You're a natural born Sangwen."

"But does that mean that I'm a twin?"

"Yes, though there is a powerful curse blocking your connection to her."

"What?! Before I even think about that, does this also mean that my mother was a twin?"

"Yes."

"And Yani is my grandmother's twin sister?"

"Yes"

"What does that mean for my Velerie half?"

"She is now Turned Sangwen. You are half machine, half Troll, all Sangwen."

Suddenly everything but Aflae, VelAnna and Eldrich freezes and a short man with red hair dressed in green clothes appears. "Oi have in me hand something that you would want. If your player knows what Pop-culture thing was being alluded to, I'll give it ye."

04. Aflae and the Blood Feud

A messenger came into the room and asked Yani, VelAnna, Aflae and Eldrich to return to court.

The Royals were seated in their thrones, and a beautiful man stood with them. Yani grinned evilly at VelAnna and looking at the beautiful man, she said, "Hello brother."

"Yani." He replied neutrally.

Aflae could tell with her Sight  that Yani's brother was extremely powerful. His spirit self appeared to be on fire with energy and life. It even threw light in the Spirit realm, and made other things around him clearer and easier to perceive. Some of that light revealed a thick spirit-lance attached to Yani's head, and an identical one on VelAnna's head.

Then Aflae noticed Eldrich's face. He had gone a little pale and was clearly awed. "Kurku Rei! Your Highness, it is an honour to meet you." Eldrich bowed slightly.

Once in their assigned area, Eldrich confided in Aflae and VelAnna, "When I was put in the Jumper Bracelet, Kurku Rei was King of the oldest, most powerful Sangwen clan in the known Oners. He was also one of the most respected Spirit mages. The symbol on his ring indicates he's still King of that clan. I don't know how he was able to leave his own court for this. We could be in serious trouble. He didn't gain his power by violence, but by knowledge and wisdom. I don't know if I'll be able to best him as your Advocate, VelAnna, but I'll do the best I can."

The Royals said, "Let us begin. Kurku, as Advocate for Yani - the summoned, you may open the proceedings."

Kurku responded, "Thank you Royals. I'll open by calling on VelAnna to detail the events leading up to these proceedings."

VelAnna and Eldrich were handed glasses to wear. Eldrich explained to Aflae that the glasses linked their minds in the way that Royals are linked so that Eldrich could influence everything VelAnna said, and how she said it. It also allowed them to think and act as one person.

Under Eldrich's influence, VelAnna stood up and approached the Royals. Looking at Kurku she began, "As a human, before I had any knowledge of Sangwen or Wizard culture, I witnessed Yani hunting with her child. A Wizard had previously implied that all Sangwen were evil and Turned, and would always remain at the age they were Turned at, so I reasoned that Yani's child was actually someone else's, and also very old. As a member of the human clan, I acted to protect my kin from them both, and attacked them. I overpowered them both. The Wizard had instructed me to bring him any Sangwen bodies I obtained, so I brought the only one I could carry. He killed the child for the blood."

Kurku said, "Thank you, VelAnna, that will be all for now. I'd like to call on Yani to detail the events from her perspective." VelAnna sat down.

Yani and Kurku were given the glasses that VelAnna and Eldrich had been wearing. Yani got up and said, "I was teaching my infant about hunting, and after making the kill I showed him how to feed. While he was feeding, this woman came out of nowhere and attacked me." A look of confusion came over her face.

"Thank you Yani, that will be all." Kurku said, removing the glasses. "Now I would like to draw the court's attention to the curse on both VelAnna and Yani. For the sake of those incapable of seeing it, I'll make it visible to all."

Suddenly with her regular sight, Aflae could see even more clearly the lances in VelAnna's and Yani's heads.

"For my closing argument, I will explain what this curse is, who is holding it against them, and how it will be broken.

"About 100 years before Yani and her sister were born, my father and our mothers underwent separation. My father didn't agree with the way our mothers were ruling as Queens, but being the Twin-Pair, they overruled him and did as they pleased. In his anger at their injustices, he called on the clan to choose between him and his wives. 2/3s of the clan chose to remain, and 1/3 chose him.

"The Queens coveted a certain powerful object, and chose to win it in a Twin Duel Challenge against the clan who currently owned the object."

Eldrich quickly explained, "That's when two sets of Linked Royals do psychic battle until both of one set have died."

Kurku went on, "To accomplish this task, the Queens tried an experiment. Using her most recent 6 sets of Twins, she first tested their prowess, by blood-binding each set to Psychically battle themselves so that only the stronger of each Twin survived. She then had the 6 survivors battle each other until only 2 remained.

"Once the strongest pairing was established, she challenged the other clan, and won. She won when one of the pair was sacrificed in order to kill the whole enemy Twin. It was widely considered to be cheating since no one had ever entered a Twin Challenge with two individuals from two different Twins. The loss of the object of power caused the deaths of a large number of Sangwen in the losing clan.

"The Queens didn't consider the potential consequences of her actions. The Queens had been influenced to these actions by the Spirit of Division, Leviathan. So Leviathan had power over those who died as a result. The first 6 who died, created powerful vengeance ghosts since their other halves still lived. The next 4 deaths added more power to Leviathan's lance. Then the deaths of everyone in the enemy clan added further power. This Lance of Leviathan made up of so many vengeance ghosts, created a curse over the Queens' clan. Some Royals left to create new clans for selfish reasons. Every Twin born lost their connection upon birth or at the time of the curse coming into effect over them. The Queens themselves didn't escape this curse. Everyone who benefited from the object of power was under the curse, which also caused them to be highly likely to attack one another.

"While under the curse, Yani and her sister were born. They never got along, and were separated.

"About this time, my father heard about what had happened to his 12 daughters, and he was highly distraught. He returned and witnessed the harmful effects of the curse and its connection to the object of power. He explained the truth to the clan, and begged them to disown the Queens, and accept him as their Royal in order to break the curse. But doing so would cause them to lose the benefits of the object of power - which they had become addicted to. Therefore they all demanded that he be tried for treason and killed. But only a member of a clan can be tried by that clan for treason, so they had no lawful jurisdiction to do so. He explained this to them, but nevertheless allowed himself to be taken and killed by Malhemotin injection in the most painful way it can be administered. He allowed this, because he had the power to escape at any moment, yet he refused to do so.

"As his eldest son, and King of my own clan already, he named me as his successor and sole heir. His death was of such a painful, protective, loving, and self-sacrificial nature, that the curse is now broken for anyone who is adopted into his clan - my clan.

"Royals, I rest my case."

The Royals said, "Thank you Kurku Rei. Eldrich, do you have anything to say?"

Eldrich responded, "Having just learned of these truths and vindications, I believe we will fully accept the judgement of the court on this matter."

"Thank you Eldrich. We have been convening on this matter, and we believe it to be in the best interest of all parties involved, to call moratorium on killings between Yani and VelAnna. You are both Sangwen, now act like it. The court also strongly suggests you both join Kurku Rei's clan."

Just groans at the idea that anyone would be so far gone to think a sentient spirit tool/weapon would be worth doing that to your own children...... also rather explains why Yani is so wrathful and hard to get through to.

But she's quite happy to hear things have worked out and VelAnna don't have to hide away. She gives her a big hug and a kiss on hearing the good news the royals are braking the whole blood oath thing... yah she found out she's cursed but there is a way to fix it, and surely she could just give up the power of this artifact too if she don't want to join there clan.... there has to be a way to simply remove it from her, otheres may be adicted to it but she's not been using it..... right?  O.o

Yani shouted at them all, "I'm CLANLESS!!"

Guards immediately seized her to prevent her from violent behaviour.

The Royals looked down at her, "Yani, you may remain clanless if you choose, but know this. You will be watched carefully, and if you violate any of our laws or attempt to harm any other Sangwen in absolutely any way, you will be sentenced to petrification. VelAnna and her associates are off-limits. They will be safe from you."

Yani hissed, causing fangs to extend, shook off her guards saying, "Fine. Let me go!"

"Release her."

Yani tapped a jumper bracelet that had been hidden up her sleeve and disappeared.

The Royals assured Aflae and VelAnna, "We have ways of ensuring that she will be no more trouble for you. She isn't beyond our reach."

After that, the courtroom went back to normal, and VelAnna, Kurku Rei, Eldrich and Aflae went to a conversation room off to one side.

Kurku Rei listened to Aflae's thoughts and responded, "That's not how this kind of a curse works. There is only one way to break a curse like this, and that is for an innocent person to assume the full effects of the curse and give protection to anyone who gives fealty to them. That's why joining my clan is the only way to break the curse."

VelAnna spoke up, "Aflae, you know how I feel about you, and that has only deepened through this whole ordeal. I've only just discovered I have a whole extended family I never knew existed, as well as a twin sister, and that I'm a Sangwen... That's alot to take in, and Kurku seems like the best person to give me my much needed education. I want to join his clan, at least long enough to figure out what this all means."

Eldrich contributed, "That seems wise. Aflae could come with you, but it would be very boring for you, Aflae."

Kurku said, "This isn't the first time I've found long-lost members of my family like this. The Leviathan Lance caused countless rogue Sangwen to go it alone, and we've developed a class to speed the process for newly discovered family. It won't take long at all, depending on how fast a learner VelAnna is. We'll have you two back together in no time. Once she's a full member of the clan, she will be mostly free to do as she pleases as long as she keeps our laws."

Kurku answered, "The Leviathan Lance is the spiritual representation of the curse that exists on the plane that is above the simple spirit level. There is only one Leviathan Lance, but it is not located on the ordinary spirit plane that you see with Verimagus. Come with me to my home, and I will be better equipped to show you."

Kurku Rei led the way to the teleportation room and spoke to the attendant, "My abode on New Ermulja, if you please."

The attendant repeated the process as before and VelAnna and Kurku Rei got in the room.

Eldrich turned to Aflae, "I know that you're interested in this Lance, so I don't object to your searching, but now that I am awakened, I need to connect with my own clan. Thank you for your company and this rich reintroducing of myself to this new era. You may contact me through any Clan Court - simply ask to send me a message or to speak with me. I bid you adieu."

Eldrich acknowledges the gift of the ship with gratitude and a laugh, saying, "You'll be sure to hear from me, my friend."

Kurku lead the way through the Sangwen Portal room into his castle. They exited the room onto the landing-pad/roof of the grand complex constructed of an amazing array of alloys and stones. There was a new model of Anima's most advanced spacecraft, one of Patrus Cosmodomini design, and a few others of origin Aflae had never before seen.

The view was of a pristine jungle environment, but every nearby acre was meticulously gardened and tended. One could tell that absolutely every plant within view was placed precisely according to plan and in a way that felt as useful as it was beautiful. Some mountains were bare of vegetation, and most were covered in wild jungle. And a 2000 ft long Dragon lay sleeping on one of the bare mountains.

Kurku lead Aflae and VelAnna into a Portal room, and through the only one behind a locked door.

They were floating in refracted-light-space. A voice from everywhere said, "Welcome Kurku, and guests - Aflae and VelAnna."

Kurku responded, "Thank you, Oner. Load program, 'Leviathan's Lance'.

The scene around them changed to the image of a market square from above. "This is a market square. The paths of people in this image will be traced with lines the colours of their emotional states. Watch what image unfolds."

As the people mill about, anger is passed around like a flu virus, cuteness and beauty are oases of calm. One wrong deed has a ripple effect that hits everyone. "This is what you are seeing when you look into the Spirit realm."

The image zooms out, and various entities who are manipulating the people on the ground below them, are themselves being manipulated by even larger beings. "There are levels to the Spirit world that are beyond the first."

One of the entities in the highest plane holds a knife, and suddenly every entity below it has that same knife. "This is a curse like the Leviathan Lance. Every aspect of life influenced by a spirit that has this curse, receives this curse. The Leviathan Lance tells people that they are self-sufficient and that they don't need to take anyone's abuse. It reminds people that it is better to be alone than in pain. But it intentionally forgets to remind people that loneliness is pain."

Someone who is stabbed with the lance refuses to lose love for the people who killed him and still produces mounds of passionate love. That lance suddenly burns to ash within that person's body. Anyone who looks at that incident, has their own lance undergo a cleansing. Some only have their lance charred, but many are freed of the lance completely over time. "The person who never earned the curse but who willingly takes the curse out of love, defeats the curse. Nothing less can convince people that they are loved and worth the work it takes to love others. Nothing less than self sacrifice can stop weapons forged by those on that spiritual plane. Does that help clear it up?"

----

In Stella Land, the simulations run.

-Incorporating Good hearts and Bad hearts into MetalTrees and mixing the sap of the tree with good blood creates healing compounds that rebuild the bodies of the trapped Sangwens.

-That healing salve is positioned to coat ordinary marrow which causes the production of blood. That blood then coats the good and bad hearts to create good and bad blood which can be used however. This process creates Magus-stones fairly quickly - essentially converting the energy of the Metal-tree into Magus-stone.

If done carefully, a Metaltree can work symbiotically with the Sangwen hearts in this way:
Good Blood from first good heart = GB1 from GH1
From the second good heart = GB2 from GH2
Bad blood from the bad heart = BB from BH

GB1 combines with GB2 to make Bonhemotin
GB1 combines with Metaltree Sap to make Metaltree Salve (super-nutritious healing salve)
Normal human bone marrow is soaked in Metaltree Salve and Bonhemotin to create bucket-loads of blood
Blood is cycled into GH1, GH2 and BH generating the required GB1, GB2 and BB
BB combines with GB2 to make Magus-stone

However it is arranged, this is the only process I can think of to generate Magus-stone with the use of a Metaltree

Regarding Stella, I'd have to re-read the thread first. That should probably wait until after this side project is finished and I have more time.

Kurku says, "I haven't told you the benefit of the object of power. The object of power isn't irrevocably linked to the curse. Once the curse has run its course, and no one is left under the curse, it will fizzle out. When that happens, my clan will return the object to the original clan in order to completely sever its connection to the curse of Leviathan's Lance. The object of power guarantees that those under its power will never lose more than half of their body in a battle. This renders a Sangwen virtually unkillable from battle. Of course, once unconscious, or if injected with malhemotin, they can be killed. That is just one of the benefits of the object of power."

There are many luxuries at Kurku's clan castle. Every kind of luxury you could think of finding at a Sangwen palace. Aflae does notice that Kurku's clan is fairly moralistic and doesn't look down on normal humans.

Kurku responds, "There are a few known ways to do this. One involves tracing the links through the curse. But to do that, you have to go through the being controlling the curse. It is best to go through the least powerful entity with that control. In this case, that being is a few steps below Leviathan, but is still too powerful for us to directly challenge.

"Even if we could defeat it, we'd still have to overcome the object of power. I won't release information about that object to anyone outside of my clan. It would be too dangerous. But I will let you know that tracing the location of those empowered by it is impossible for anyone except the highest ranking member of the clan which owns it. That person is the woman who won the Twin Challenge. Her name is Polyglot.

"Polyglot has been particularly difficult to track, and we aren't sure why. We're fairly certain she is hiding in some Oner unconnected to these, because we do have a vial of her blood and it stubbornly refuses to be affected by all tracing spells. The last known whereabouts of Polyglot are a Humagus guild outpost on the outer surface of Pskaena's planetary shell. Being Sangwen, it is unsafe for us to seek her in their territory. Yet it has been our way ever since the Twins Sangue and their husband Gwen began the first Clan. Here's sent a cameracube with an audio-visual documentary originally recorded in the distant past." They hand Aflae a cameracube to view at her convenience, ((OOC: newest post in Lore and Oddities)).

Even quicker than calling all Sangwen affected by the curse, if Polyglot - as rightful owner of the clan who owns the object - pledges her clan's allegiance to us, everyone still technically in the clan who hasn't formally renounced their status in the clan will be relieved of the symptoms of the curse until the clan leaves us or each individual pledges.

"But since no one has yet returned alive, we couldn't ask you to attempt it."

After the response,

Spoiler for Polyglot: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
MK hands Aflae a pendant with a single drop of Sangwen blood inside a diamond with gold wire wrapped around the diamond. "This pendant will guide you toward Polyglot. It should lead you to the next clue you need every step closer to finding her that you get."

Spoiler for VelAnna's twin: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
MK surrounds VelAnna, placing all 6 of their hands on her. They chant for a few minutes in and unintelligible language. Aflae sees Formagus (Blood), Verimagus (Mind, Love, Spirit, Soul), Unimagus (Dimension), Imgus (Clear, Light) energies swirling around them all. MK asks for a drop of VelAnna's blood, which she supplies. They place the drop of blood on a pair of glasses, and hand the glasses to Aflae. "You'll be able to see a path to VelAnna with these."

VelAnna had been lost deep in thought, processing everything that had been happening. She looks at Aflae and smiles as she says, "I can't tell you how much it would mean to me if you found my sister and brought her safely to me."

If Aflae is going for VelAnna's tiwn, MK surrounds VelAnna, placing all 6 of their hands on her. They chant for a few minutes in and unintelligible language. Aflae sees Formagus (Blood), Verimagus (Mind, Love, Spirit, Soul), Unimagus (Dimension), Imgus (Clear, Light) energies swirling around them all. OOC: The original spoiler had a typo at the end. The glasses lead the way to VelAnna's twin.

Wearing the glasses, they reveal a faint and thin trail to one of the Portals in the Portal room.

Kurku asks about her idea and after her response he says, "That could be dangerous, but it certainly would be fun. Fare well, friend."

As she's about to leave, VelAnna whispers something in Masa's ear. MK all smile as one and point at a door in the hallway. VelAnna says nothing, but takes Aflae by the hand and - if she lets her - leads her into the room. VelAnna says, "Hugs? Try this instead!"
and ...

Afterward VelAnna says, "Now you've got motivation to come back alive. I've never met my twin, but I know you. Don't die."

Once Aflae goes through the Portal, she exits in Auraluna. The faint thin trail of golden motes flows through Auraluna, not in a straight line, but in a convoluted path. She can see the path up to a point where it disappears into the back door of a restaurant.

OOC: I'd like to revamp your gear to fit into a new paradigm. I want to test out a few concepts, so I'll let you decide which you'd like to try.

I've discovered a system where you level up by increasing your die count instead of the number of dice, and I wondered what it would be like to have an item's effect increase the number of sides on a die instead of the number of dice. Since we have the Dice Roller, we can use any number of sides, so these items could increase it by +1 as many times as would be reasonable.

The second idea I had was to change items from +1d6 reroll etc to just act like NPCs with single (or multiple) cliches. That way they could take damage, be levelled up, get boosted etc.

Thirdly, because of the dice roller, they could all be rolled together as one, even if different dice were rolled at once.

It would be a little too complicated to introduce to ordinary players, but I feel confident you would be able to use it.

How do you feel about incorporating any or all of those ideas for Aflae? We can keep the original stats of your items saved (in your description) in case you wanted to go back. If it works well, I'll start rolling it out.

Well guessing that it goes in and don't come back out... Guesses she is ether in there, or there is another portal in the back.

The question here is to Bruce Wane this or not? ;p

NAhhhhh.....

Well she sucks at Imagus... but She's fairly good at Verimagus, so taking a step back outside she grabs her harptar and starts playing and while using Unimagus to warp any hing of her being there light/energies she gives off/ect around her (energy) and Verimagus to mess with the brains tendency to ignore things to ignore her and any sounds she makes so anything they may notice so the only way they might notice is if they notice there is a spot there brain is just ignoring (hard thing to actually do mind you).

Would roll but not sure how you want to do combining more than one magus, and the equipment bonus of the harp..... and she walks back... waiting for some one to head into the back, and follows them back. Not wanting to draw attention to herself by opening the door. The music is part of the magic but.... is worried doing anything that draws attenting to her might mess with peoples heads as there brains are told to look and ignore at the same time.

(ooc works like the idea of white noise... you deal with something enough you don't notice it.... you will letteraly not see/hear/smell/ect it because your brain cuts down on the amount of imput it is using.   Something FAR from human with a MASIVE brain power would get a hudge bonus resisting this... EI dragon/angel/ect as there brains can surely handle 100% of all there senses all the time....)

So she's mostly invisable and people that hear/see something don't know that they do because it don't reach there subconscious ignores it and it never goes to there conscious mind or long term memory.

Bunch of elements advanced. Used your harpitar for a bonus to the dice. It will increase its bonus as it levels up.

I was hoping to see if you would head straight for the shop, or follow the trail as a small test. If you had chosen one or the other, things would be affected. But since I didn't make that a clear choice and I couldn't tell which way you would have gone, I know that my wording wasn't clear. How could I have worded that so that you would have chosen one or the other without knowing for sure which way was the right way? I ask because I want to improve my communication skills.

IC:
While performing the spell, Aflae feels that she should follow the actual trail without taking a shortcut to the shop even though she can see it. As she does this, the trail itself alters a little, though the destination remains the same. By following the trail, she completely avoids even bumping into anyone. However, she does notice one person noticing her. A green skinned woman suddenly stops staring at Aflae when their eyes meet through the crowd, and she disappears into the crowd.

The trail leads to a walk-in freezer.

Ever read The Princess and the Goblin? I haven't, but there's a thread the Princess has to follow no matter what to find safety. At one point, it disappears into a stone, but leaving the thread, no matter how hard following it is, is disastrous.

The trail has to be followed. This is one of those paths where the journey is as important as the destination.

The trail goes into the restaurant, and not out, but within the restaurant it leads to a walk-in freezer.

Oh I misunderstood your saying she could tell where the path lead to she would head to the restaurant.... but if the tail didn't stay in place when she did that and the glasses keep trying to lead her back to to the start of the tail she would have found that odd and gone back and followed the trail.

She would figure the tail is just the path the twin took... but if the glasses changed the trail when she moved off it then she would think otherwise and investigate.

in other words if the "thread" stayed attached to her instead of being stadic.

Once Aflae started moving straight for the restaurant, the trail began to wiggle and swing about wildly. It still ended at the restaurant, but every step off of the trail caused the trail to move around randomly.

Once she began following the trail, she made her way to the restaurant without anyone other than that green-skinned lady even noticing her.

Once in the restaurant, the thread lead to the walk-freezer.

((I'm assuming she goes in))

Inside the freezer, there is a portable portal ring set up and open with cold air flowing in through a small Portal. Though small, it is just big enough for Aflae to fit in.

For now follows the trail and uses another Veri/Unimagus spell to try and see who is spying on her and where they are, guessing they are scrying on her. Doing her best not to be detected, trying not to mix up the music she's plying to much, to make it seam like she's just been stroling long playing music and at best not make it seam like the magic she's casting has changed...... she isn't very good at Imagus but she can try and mix that in too to hide that she is looking for who is looking for her. >.<

Best she can do though realy is using unimagus to bounce it around from several locations to the point that hopefully the only reason they can tell the magic is coming from her is just sercemstancial evidence that well..... it makes sense the person watching you looks back. >.>

OOC: Just realized I didn't RP that quite the way I should've. I'm retconning the following:

IC:
Actually Aflae realizes that her Magus skills didn't alert her to the feeling of being watched. It was pure instinct, as if the Magus added no help whatsoever.

There is an absence of Magus in a tiny spot on her right shoulder. If she weren't so paranoid and on alert, there's no way she'd notice it. Even if she notices it, it's so small it would be easy to think it was just an illusion. But the absence of Magus in the tiny spot about the size of a gnat disappears the moment she tries to focus on it.

OOC: It's the green-skinned woman's organic spy drone which nullifies Magus spells but is detectable by Magem aided means. She's not an antagonist, and she will soon reveal herself after observing Aflae for a little while.

IC:
In the sky, Aflae witnesses Gamma exploding like everyone else does.

The trail leads into a densely wooded area and the temperature slowly increases and the air thins out the deeper in she goes.

OOC: Would you feel comfortable RPing a meeting of Aflae and Azraille?

If they catch it she examines it while saying. "Hello, sorry but I'm on private buisnuess for a friend, so fly along home or I'm braking your toy."

OOC: What did Aflae think of Gamma exploding?

IC:
"A Dragon avatar is a secondary body, sometimes telepathically linked and sometimes not, that a Dragon uses to move among other species.

"We'd have no problem teaching you to become what you already are. Deep down, you are already a dragon. Not everyone with Dragon DNA is a Dragon, but you have enough of the right markers.

"This is how you can become a Dragon. Meditate while shunning all magus and magem, focusing on visualizing your DNA. Once you see it, look at the patterns and follow your instinct to search for the Dragon specific strands, and then zoom out to see the whole image that they create. Once you do that, you'll trigger a cocooning event where you'll be able to design your DNA to create any body you desire. Visualize the body (or bodies) you'll want and follow your instincts from there. You'll have as much body mass to work with as you go into your cocoon with, so I recommend preparing for that. Your first metamorphosis will take a few months, and you can't use magus during that time period. But when it's done, you'll be a full Dragon.

"One thing you should know. If any of your bodies are full-on Dragon, you'll have some magic-like abilities, but you won't be able to use Magus in that form & you'll be immune to direct Magus attacks. However, you'll be fully able to use Magem and you'll be fully susceptible to Magem."

I'm helping my girlfriend, there might be a way to end the war between magus and magem, I've been pulled into a war with dark spirits, and there is a really old necromancer out there with a scary amount of trapped souls" She thinks. "Maybe I should hire more adventuring parties." Thinks though that changes things... had planed on basically giving birth to herself to do it, but that would require finding some one good enough with magus to heal her... and getting much better with it herself..... still how she is suppose to increase her biomass when she's already missing a good chunk of her own biomass is going to be a mess. "Not exactly. If you use any form of Magus to manipulate your DNA, you won't be a true Dragon. You'll continue to be a human even if you look like a dragon. Being a Dragon is like being more real than a human in a sense. It's hard to explain, and until you experience it, you won't get it. But you simply can't use Magus to become a Dragon and still be able to use Magus afterward in a Dragon body. This avatar can use Magus, but if I choose to alter my DNA in this Avatar, I only have two choices - my primary Dragon body can swallow this avatar and act as its cocoon as I alter it within me, or I can go into the meditative state, abandon Magus, cocoon, and alter it there within itself. Once I did that, though, it would become my daughter and no longer be my avatar."

The planet teleporting made no sense
"Sorry to interrupt, but that was a design flaw in the planetary defence mechanism which was supposed to shield the planet by pinching it off from the Oner in its own little Oner bubble until the danger passed. They never foresaw that it would teleport into a different Oner entirely. We Dragons worked out what happened to it a few weeks after it disappeared."

why would the dragon be asking her what she thought about it,

Because she was there, they both saw it, and it was a freaking planet exploding everywhere which they both would deduce since they both had other selves in other places.

Oh yah... she cusses a lot.....

When she's done she just sorta ingores the dragon for now.... Holding up a hand while she gets comuncations open with Stella and various Anima reps.

To RnD "I'm having a sample of a creature called Rulab sent to you. It's contained... reverse engineer how it's contained and devise a method of storing Magem or quarantine people with a dependence on Magem to live in a Rulab free environment. I'll send you notes on everything we know about them."

To Ducky and medical RnD "We need a way to treat people who are dependant on magem so they can live with out it, and we need it fast. One that don't need magem."

To stella and Arbaelf "Ok I know I just sent you to work on the spirit war but I need your help on re-tooling the wardens, tree-ships, and comway-nexus superstructer... First get them to shut down as quickly as they can as they switch to no longer using magem.... even if the magem alge in there sap dies the trees should be fine, but they will lose various functions so they will have to adapt to using other methods. Warn all the spirits of the wardens what is happening and what they will have to deal with... send a software patch to the ships with emergancy prasidures should they lose magem functionality.... have all ships grow solar leaf sails now, but keep them folded around the ship as a procotion and warn there owners agenst interstellar travel if Rulab activity rises." She also makes sure stella works something out to shut down her work in her own personal star system.... just flat out shutting it down letting it go cold for now. (unless the magem in them cna be used to attack the rulab untill equlibrum is reached sorta thing.. .then that because thats better than just letting them eat it all up and growing =p)

To scrapland and magem farming "Concentrate on the collection and conversion to void shards, as soon as we have a viable means of storing it from RnD I want a stockpile of void shards"

She talks to ValAnnna too "Hun, you still busy? I need you to stop by that place we stayed at with the nice view and the ghost cat and look up some names for me..... and maybe make a trip to talk to some high up mages for me..... seam some one tried to end the magus / magem war with full magem genocide... regardless of how much that fucks everyone over."

Also has stella run calculations on how long it will be untill the end of the univurse and looks into Hiring an Unimagus mage cappable of creating stable portals and locking them down into a contract before anyone knows about this and starts sniping the best ones. I know there will be a LOT of CEO (5/5) rolls.... she will pump CEO two or three times for this though..... she will fight tooth and nail to get a good deal in getting a good solid stable contract with an Unimgagus mage.... besides they can teach her.....    (if she can get ValAnna to find the names cheed and sooth where talking about... she will start with the unimage from that list)

But she general stays there making contacts to try and get Anima set to deal with the aftermath... treating this as a compleat loss of all magem senario (EI ... preapare for the worst case senario, but hope for the best) She will let everyone (who's high up) know whats going on with as much details as they can trusting them only to let people know who they think it's reletive to know though... making sure they know this could cause wide spread panic if people knew exsactly what was going on.  They are to prepare for mass relief efforts, the loss of power to magem drives and portals, and the possable need to evacuate oner - 0 with out magem ships and portals.

This was a hudge fucking pain.

quote:
regardless of how much that fucks everyone over.

VelAnna comes back, "Holy FRAK! -" a string of profanities, "- dirtbags. Alright, I'm on it. I'll keep you updated. I'll expel my own Balur to keep me safe from danger. I can do that now. I've spent something like 100 years in a time-sped bubble to catch up on everything, and I'm really anxious to get back with you and have a private conversation, but that can wait."

The Dragon waits patiently as Aflae silently does these Communications. They come up on the sound of voices somewhere ahead on the path.

"Sorry, there is a lot to work out ... even more on my plate..." She sighs. "This is going cause so many problems for so many people........" She scans to see where the voices are coming from. "Maybe if we are lucky I can use this to negotiate a end to the magus/magem war in exchange for helping save Balur from who ever is trying to wipe it out.... if it's even possible to negotiate with it, wonder if there is a way to give something with out a soul a soul and emotions? Yah know new souls not... used souls or anything!!! Well not used souls!!! GAH! You know what I mean...."  shivers a little at that bit.  And yes she talks to much when she's in criss mode or thinking a lot. "AGH... I got chunks of magem in my brain and replacing vital organs, I need to finish this up before it becomes a problem."

Rounding the corner, she spies a woman spying on Azraile and some old man ((Reuel)). Hearing Aflae and the Dragon avatar approach, the woman spins around startled, "Oh my!"

Aflae recognizes Annabelle ((the Sangwen half of VelAnna)) and the golden thread leads right to her, stopping in her.

Annabelle's Twin says, "Um... Do you know me? I've been having..." she blushes, "dreams... about you. Also, where is the dome ceiling? I came up the mountain to get a better look at a tree that I thought was on fire, and now I feel like I'm not even on Pskaena anymore!"
