If the plan is Monk taunting/goading/doing a hamlet scene, I choose to(personally) hide behind rocks to our right. That's enough room to get behind them after they go after the monk.

Nothing scarier then a mist cloud behind you that your buddies scream deathtones from when they enter.

I besides that i'm concerned the goblins won't split into 2 groups, or finish their sport and start a hunt. However i'm just pessimistic.

It's entirely possible but my main aim is to at least distract the goblins and draw their attention to me. Both risky and potentially suicidal but no pain no gain :)

I've always found dice to protect people with uncanny dodge vs swarms.

This one time, I had a Fighter5/rogue2 in a (nonelethal) gladiator pit.

The druid took on the balrog, the other fighter did his own thing, and all the thugs decided it was time to gang up on me. I was dualwielding a rapier and light flail.

Never got hit even though I had 8 people attacking me and 3 more waiting. was all 3's 4's 1's and a 5.

1's meant they tripped up and hit themselves. I just had to wait for the druid to finish the balrog and lighting zap my evasive buns of steel.

That's the problem with monks being trained with paladins, they go from being selfless to actively trying to become martyrs. Don't get me wrong, the heroic last stand is definitely the way to leave this world, I only ask you avoid setting yourself on fire, those images haunt my sleep.

I don't plan on dying, but armed as I am I am limited in my options. Plus my character isn't the smartest

Tbh, I've rarely seen a situation were a monk is better served with fists instead a staff.

Early on a quick masterwork adds +1 ac to flurry, two handed power attack if you want it,
You can kick and punch freely while using it, and its nice for things you don't want to touch or as X other things outside of combat, balance pole, pole volt, 5 foot pole, oar, floation device, sliding down wires. That, a sling and 10 rocks.
Slings make good belts, food sacks, blindfolds.

Monks are very practical creatures.

That being said I've never seen a monk use guantlets/steel knuckles and this is the secondd time I've hear them referenced.

I have a plan for this monk which will result in quite a powerful unarmed fighter, it's just initially the monk may have some bad luck. Once I get a chance to put my character description up the guy may make more sense.... Either that or he'll become a red smear and it will be back to the old drawing board

The other six apprentices are fighters with chain shirts, longswords, light crossbows and tower shields. You can expect that they will fire from range, band together into a shield wall or work in pairs trying to flank as their standard tactics. If we get any more players they will replace an apprentice and will be treated like they were there all along, or later that they had been part of the sergeants group.

Lest we Forget
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
 We will remember them.

Today is ANZAC day, this poem is a verse of the Ode of Remembrance, which will read before the last post and a minute of silence at the dawn service this morning. We gather to recognize the sacrifice our servicemen have made over the last century.

Damn, that plan unravelled quicker than a badly knitted sweater! We need the goblins closer to us, so we move back and the bait moves forward? Time for plan B, whatever that is.

In reply to Tarpin (msg # 19):

The thing that isn't obvious is we had cover originally from cresting a sharp hill, so the goblins didn't see all our little heads poking up.

We stepped back bit to get real cover, and one or two of us may or may not be spying to see whats going on.

All we might know is what we can hear.
