[OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

If you really want to do that as an interlude between books that is fine. Otherwise there is always more death and chaos to be found elsewhere.

[OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

I, personally, do. He got under my skin. IC I feel that there should be a reason for it though. We are not really murdering vigilante types ..... well, actually we are, but still need a reason.

[OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

Well, Kyra is a murdering vigilante type, so going after this guy is right up her alley. However, she is more worried about the fact that the docks are being watched by the hellknights.

Next level though, when she gets access to actual flight, she plans to take a crate of alchemists fire and fire bomb his ship in the middle of the night, from 300' up and while invisible. Possibly after cutting the moorings on his ship, just to see if spiders can swim (better than sharks).

Assuming we don't take him out before that, of course. Though another possible complication comes to my mind - this guy may yet play some part in the campaign, possibly on our side (whatever that is).

[OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

Something I just remembered, harrow points, is that a thing after the first adventure book? Wasn't there a special harrow deck the party recovered at the start of the game? Whatever happened to it? I know Kyra would love to get her hands on it, if it's still around.

[OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

It's still there. Technically people had harrow points they could have spent throughout the adventure for a one-time bonus but the group was hardly hurting for success.

There will be another big harrow reading and after that it is up to players to remember their bonuses.

In reply to Figus Dva (msg # 19):

I'm going with abstain here, at least for now, because of risk od running afoul of the guard or hellknights.

If the rest of the party is in favour, Kyra will od course join, though we would need to prepare for the possibility od someone waiting for us afterwards.

Kraw- nay. There are too many things we still have to deal with. And I'm not confident we have the capability to deal with him, given so many unknowns about his organization.

OOC: I play in about 4 games right now set in Crimson Throne. So remind me, is Lamm still an active threat in this one?

Re: [OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

I'm good with that, and I will likely do some shopping before we start. But first, I'll attempt to actually learn Identify:

20:12, Today: Kyra rolled 16 using 1d20+8 with rolls of 8.  Spellcraft (DC 16).

Juuuust made it. I really have to find a better way to learn spells, and that means finding other witches. So my down-time project is doing just that - reaching out to the city's occult community (I hope there is one) and see if anyone is willing to teach Kyra some spells, either for gold or for access to her own spells. Any idea on how I could go about doing that?

Re: [OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

Kyra:
There's a whole shelf of book on the topic that Kyra carted to her home. Not very portable, though she did buy a small Bag of Holding from her cut of the loot. There are also some witch spells that could come in handy here, like Diagnose Disease. Kyra does not know them (of course), but she could go hunting for scrolls or other witches that do know them.
Its also a first level Ranger spell. Of course I do not not have it memorized, but if we need it I can have it the next day.

I also have a scroll of Delay Disease and a dose of Antiplague. Hoping not to have to use these though as it will start getting expensive and I only have one of each. On the other hand Remove Disease is a third level spell, so I imagine it would cost like 3x5x25 = 375 gp for the priests to cast.

Edit:
Looking through the rules to see what else can be used and what gives bonuses. The only think I see that may be worth while is Bodybalm, which is 25gp and would give +5 to the Heal check which in turn would give a +4 to the patients Fort save. Diagnose Disease can also give +4 bonus on Heal check. It seems that Bodybalm and Diagnose Disease are stackable. I am not how the books work, I assume it may be another +2 which may or may not be stackable here.

So, best case scenario Antiplague + Heal = +9 fort. If we have a cloak of Resistance we could use that for another +1. Or Antiplague can be used for 2 saves instead of 1, but at +4(?).

At some point we might look at pooling resources for a Healer's Satchel if we have anyone who will max their Heal skill.

Re: [OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

Thank you for the link.

This is the one thing that has always bugged me about Pathfinder. The prices for none magical items are way too high. This item kind off address the issue with some alchemical items and Healer's Kit, but at price of 1500 gp way over priced.

I love it for the regenerating uses. And the big bonus vs diseases for Specialized. Of course, you could check to see if someone in town has one.

Re: [OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

Ishani Dhatri:
OOC: For a translation into mechanical terms the disease appears to attack Constitution and Charisma which means that it can prove fatal if untreated. It has a DC 16 Fort save which makes it a lot harder for people to fend off compared to normal diseases. For reference the Black Death has a fort DC of 17.

Ok, this is going to suck. That is a very strong disease and the fact that it is hitting CON just makes it worse as every time you fail, it makes it harder to make the next roll.

If the girl has been sick for a day or two, then her CON has already been reduced. We can boost her next Fort roll, but DC16 is going to be hard even with +9.

i hate to meta game, but this looks to be a major thrust of this chapter. The hint of a plague ship and now this. Someone should go and buy up some more Antiplauge vials while the city is not in a state of panic, which I am willing to bet will be soon.

BTW, does any one else find this a bit ironic considering that state of things in the Real World at the moment?

Re: [OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

Ordinarily I would agree but half the APs have a book about some disease sweeping a city or town. For whatever reason Paizo loves a classic “disease leading to deeper evil” plot line.

In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 35):

The only APs I am really familiar with is Runelords and a bit of Wrath of the Righteous (and the first book of this one now), neither seem to have disease as one of their main plot lines, so I will take your word for it.

I use disease very loosely. The spreading of ghouls in the first part of book 2 for Runelords for example.

Re: [OOC] The Tavern 2: The Taverning

quote:
OOC: Chances are she has already made her save but a dose of antiplague would trigger another one. Otherwise boosts and checks would get her prepared for the next day's check.

There does not seems to be a way to diagnose a disease without actually casting a Diagnose Disease spell.

So what do we actually do? If I give her Antiplague now, that would force a check, but that would be without a bonus. I would rather give it her in conjunction with the Heal check for the combined +9.

What exactly would those books in Kyra's possession do for us?
