Re: [OOC] The Tavern - For all your chatting needs

This is what I think we should do with the items found:

Sell:
Wand of Acid Splash (28 charges)
x4 small-sized Shortswords
x4 small-sized Repeating light crossbows
Robe of Bones
350gp amber necklace
Silver Dagger
Necromancer's Spellbook
MW Dagger
Scroll of Identify
Scroll of Command Undead

Identify:
x5 unknown vials of powder
Unidentified wax-sealed vial

quote:
Wand of Ghoul Touch (44 charges)

Its on a Bloodrager spell list, so Ayeesha can use it

quote:
+1 studded leather armor (does not count for well-dressed traits as the armor looks ugly)
Ring of Protection +1
Multiple people can use this

quote:
300gp worth of books (can also be kept for situational +2 to knowledge checks relating to disease and plagues

Normally sell, but we may want to donate it instead to some temple or library for future services.

The powders and vial aren't magical, that's been the problem with identifying them. You need an alchemist or a good knowledge(alchemy) roll.

The vial is not magical either? Huh. Guess we will have to find an alchemist to help us.

Also, Kyra is definitely interested in keeping the books.

You need to stop rolling 1s and 2s when I roll for you, lol. I just gave you a freebie roll figuring that now that you had some time to really study it you might figure it out and you rolled another ‘1’.

Could just take it to an alchemist and they’ll identify it for a couple of gold.

Re: [OOC] The Tavern - For all your chatting needs

Ok, we will pay the fee to an Alchemist for identify the items.

On a separate note, just want to point this out:

Korvosan Guard - The Korvosan Guard serves the city of Korvosa first, the city’s leader second, and the church of Abadar third. It works closely with the monarch and high priest of Abadar to maintain order in the city, acting most often as a police force, but turning into a military operation whenever the city is threatened by external forces. Descended from the regular army troops brought to Endrin Isle by Field Marshal Korvosa, the Korvosan Guard possesses a long and proud history of serving the city and its leaders. Supported and augmented by the church of Abadar, the Guard counts among its officers paladins and priests of the city god. The Guard works closely with both the Order of the Nail and Sable Company, coordinating efforts among all three and relying on the Hellknights to muster Acadamae wizards when necessary in order to protect the city from every imaginable threat. Field Marshal Cressida Kroft leads the nearly 700 soldiers of the Korvosan Guard, almost all of whom are human of Chelaxian descent. All other civilized races have representatives in the guard, as do Shoanti and Varisians. Despite an ever increasing integration of non-Chelaxians into its ranks, the Korvosan Guard remains steadfastly tied to its Chelaxian traditions. Only full-blooded Chelaxian humans can become generals or the field marshal, while only those with at least half-Chelaxian blood (including half-elves) can achieve a rank higher than captain.

Re: [OOC] The Tavern - For all your chatting needs

Then Kyra will take the scroll of identify and the books. Does Ayeesha want to keep the Wand of Ghoul Touch?

As for the spellbook, just selling it would probably be for the best. Might fetch a nice price too. Even if we find someone to craft scrolls from the spells in it, Kyra only has 50-60% chance of actually learning a spell from a particular scroll. And either way the scroll is destroyed in the process. The only practical way for witches to learns spells is from other witches.

I will comment on the downtime stuff and Figus’ comments later.

I just want to say now that there is no mandatory need to be present. Of course Field Marshall will want you there but she isnt demanding it and it isnt required for the AP. Talk it out and just let me know when you are ready to move on and where you will be.

RE: Korvosa Guard - That is correct but what do you expect the Field Marshall to do? Plunge the city into civil war over a single artist being scapegoated?

RE: Alchemist for 15gp he'll identify your potions and powders. Let me know who is going to pay.

RE: Knowledge (Local) - You are free to make a knowledge local to learn more about him. Roll high enough and you might know how to get in touch.

Nothing really. I do not expect him to do anything. Not yet anyway, but it certainly appears we may find ourselves of choosing between the queen and the city the way the AP seems to be going and its pretty obvious which way we shall go.

Blackjack? According to Korvosa info thread, he is a vigilante who has operated for 200 years. He is known as the Hero of the Downtrodden. If anybody can help Trinia, it would be him.

Speaking of our Service to the City, was there any reward for recovering the body, or simply 'anything we find down there is ours'?

Can we get a good price on the spellbook, or is it useful to our casters first?

Re: [OOC] The Tavern - For all your chatting needs

I will add the payment to the sold loot as I've done in the past. Is the above list final? And yes you can get a good price for the spellbook.

The spellbook can be sold on the open market for about 400gp. Keep in mind that for this (and all other specialty items you find) that is just the default "sell it and forget it." It might be possible to gather information to find buyers willing to pay more than just the default. Perhaps someone has a particular interest in the knowledge contained within, or perhaps they would pay a premium to prevent the item from hitting the open market. Not just the spell book but also scrolls/magic items etc.

The alchemist identifies the powder as Blue Whinnis. When mixed with water and applied to a weapon it can cause the target to fall unconscious, likely the reason why the derro were able to capture so many victims unseen. Each dose is worth 120gp (sold for 60gp).

The wax sealed vial is one of alchemist's fire.

Once applied to a weapon, how long will it be good for? I am assuming its good for a single hit.

Kraw, do you want to split these?

Interesting. Yes, I would it would be good to at least try to contact this guy, maybe he can help out.

As for the spellbook, it's of no direct use to us, so whatever whatever brings us the most cash is fine. What would it take to search for a buyer that would pay more? Knowledge: Local maybe?

Re: [OOC] The Tavern - For all your chatting needs

RE: Buyers

For finding a buyer I don't want it to be just as easy as a roll. I want to give you guys the opportunity to add to the story by figuring out a scenario that someone would want to pay more than normal for these supplies.

I have some ideas but I dislike just feeding that out nonstop because I feel like if the GM says it, it has a tendency to squash player creativity and to be honest, I find working with the ideas you present a lot more interesting and exciting than just raising the question and answering it myself.

So if you would like to explore that option, think on that question and the answer plus an appropriate skill roll will turn up a buyer. I won't necessarily craft it into a IC scene but at least add a vignette or perhaps an NPC contact to the background.

RE: Poison
Poisons typically last about 10-30 minutes on a blade. The derro had special weapons where the act of drawing the weapon would coat the blade. The poison lasts for one good hit.

RE: Blackjack
I am gathering my sources to properly answer this question. Stand by.

RE: Plans
I'd like to move on to the thrilling conclusion to the book soon so my focus for you guys is:

1. Figure out whether you will attend the execution or not. If so in what capacity (bystander? guard?)

2. Figure out what equipment is going where. You've got a lot of gold tied up in unclaimed items. Also this includes any additional shopping.

3. Come up with your plan for attacking the King of Spiders.

Re: [OOC] The Tavern - For all your chatting needs

1. Yes, Kyra plans to be there along with the rest of the hoi polloi. Somewhere on the sidelines maybe, but not too far from the action? But maybe we can work out some kind of a plan before that with Batman, I mean Blackjack?

2. Other than the identify scroll and the book collection Kyra does not really care what happens to the rest of the stuff. We can also keep the spellbook for now, I guess, until we figure out how to make more cash out of it.

3. I'm hoping we will not do this right now. We know that his ships are being watched by the hellknights, so if we try anything funny we might have to deal with them as well. Of course, they might approve of our actions. Or not.

Re: [OOC] The Tavern - For all your chatting needs

Re: Buyers
We ought to sell the spellbook to a wizard or apprentice studying either necromancy or researching golems.

Re: Poisons
I don't like using them much. This type of poison might be more useful to the Field Marshall (Cressida) for taking perps down non lethally.  Let's sell it to her.

Re: Plans

1) I plan to be in the crowd to help keep control. If I manage to get either Blackjack's or Orsini's aid, I might be helping a jailbreak.

2)If Kraw is allowed to keep the Studded Leather +1, he turns over his MW Chain Shirt, either to sell or to replace someone else's outdated armor. Once we have figures for what can be sold, Kraw needs to get some added tools for his trade.

3) I have no plans to go after the King of Spiders. At least, not until I've had a chance to research him. I'm betting that someone who works for him, possibly at the brothel, wants to get out from under his thumb, and might be willing to part with damaging information.

Must admit that I/we do not really have an in character reason to go after him.  Would still love to go after him if we do find one.

Re: [OOC] The Tavern - For all your chatting needs

I'm fine doing shopping and such OOC unless there is a reason to do it otherwise. If you guys want some scenes where you can breath and do some character development I'm all for drumming up some "slice of life" stuff. Up to you.

RE: Blackjack
Nobody knows who Blackjack is, nobody even knows of someone who knows who Blackjack is although the rumors run wild. What few know but Kyra with her special attunement to the city knows is that it is possible to send a request his way. By leaving a scroll wrapped in black string in an alley next to the Laughing Wave Inn is rumored to be a way to get a message to Blackjack. It isn't reliable but it does seem to have a bit more weight to it than typical Blackjack speculation and gossip.

RE: Special Customers
If you want to sell to a special customer there are ways in which to do so. First to find one would be a typical gather information check if you don't have one in mind already. Once you do have one in mind you can choose your approach: Diplomacy, Bluff, or Appraise. This represents friendly negotiations, fast talk high pressure sales, or portraying one as an expert to properly appraise it (i.e. This is worth this much because of X, Y and Z.) The NPC will pick a method as well depending on their skills/personality/relationship to the player and then we will proceed in a contested roll. While you might never get full price you might be able to do far better...or far worse, than half. If the roll goes poorly you are expected to sell even at a worse price as they have convinced you to do so. You can override it but it will take a hit to their relationship with you and good luck ever trying to sell to them again as you'll have earned a reputation as a poor merchant.\

RE: Moving on
I will move the story forward tomorrow so wrap up anything else you'd like to do/say before the execution.

RE: The King of Spiders
Again it is up to you if you want to attack him or not. I'm fine either way :D

Ok, I am taking the x5 Blue Whinnis poison vials (I am not sure how we are dividing loot. If need be I can reimburse the party the 300 gp for them)

I would like to buy the following:

Tanglefoot Bag, Antitoxin, Antiplague, Master Work Backpack (200 gp total)

If we do have downtime, I would like to teach my Raven some tricks.
