The tables in the link below provide some great information.  Includes sheet for personal and starship combat; along with sheets describing the use of advantages, threats and dispairs.

Each roll is a combination of four things - Lets pretend were making a negition roll.  This character has a Presence of 2 and a Negotiation Skill rank of 3

1 - Your Check Dice
Check the characteristic and skill rank of the appropriate check (2 and 3), the lower     number is how many Proficiency Dice you roll, the difference between them is how many ability dice you roll.  In this case that 2-Proficiency and 1-Ability

2 - The difficulty Dice
You as the player, unless I say otherwise, will choose the correct difficulty based on the guide tables.  There are two types of dice - Difficulty Dice and Challenge Dice.  You will always select difficulty dice, unless I tell you otherwise.  Challenge dice wont be obvious. In this case, negotiating with a trained merchant, the 3 difficulty dice is appropriate.

3 - Any negative effects
Negative area or situational effects add setback dice to your roll.  In negotiations this could be a bad first impression, bias, coming in 5 minutes before closing, etc.  Lets say the merchant really hates humans and so you have 2 setback dice to overcome.

4 - Any positive effects
Positive area or situational effects add boost dice to your roll.  In negotiations this could be a great first impression, end of the month and the salesman has a quota, oversupply of the item in question, etc.  Lets say the merchant really needs to use the bathroom, so is motivated to close the deal quickly and so you have 1 boost dice on your side.

This all combines to a roll, as seen in the dice roller, of 2P 1A 3D 2S 1B

Be sure to be descriptive when using the dice roller.  "Ranged Light at Target R1"  or "Negotiate lower price at fish market".

Post results in an OOC line at the bottom of your post.

When making posts we need to be specific as to how our successes and advantages are going to be spent.  Per the tables, you could conceivably get 3 advantage, spend 2 for one effect, and save the remaining 1 for another effect.  Build it into your narrative as you wish, but each roll should have an OOC distribution for the specifics.

Example 1
OOC
Dice Pool: 1A1P3D1B (1B from Truks advantage)
Results: 2Fail, 3Adv

2Adv - Extra Maneuver
1Adv - Recover 1 strain
</Orange>

Example 2
OOC
Dice Pool: 1A2P3D1S1B (1S from Darkness, 1B Macrobinoculars)
Results: 3succ, 3Threat

2Thr - 1 Setback to next action
1Thr - 1 Strain
